This is a very old school diner that caters to local folks. The interior is old and takes you back to a different era. I've seen this place for years and decided to try it. The service was ok but a little slow. I noticed that if you're a regular you get much better service. I ordered eggs, bacon, American fries, and toast. Old style lunch specials. The Kitchenette has be around for 65+ years. The flat top is in plain sight, and there a lunch counter. The restaurant is open early, but closed at 1:30. Plan ahead so you're not disappointed. We got the last meatloaf specials today. Service was spot on. read more

We luckily found this restaurant on our way home from the OSU Notre Dame game. Stopped for breakfast. The food was plentiful and delicious. The bacon was the bomb. The service was outstanding. This is one of those hidden gems that I will dream about until I get the chance to go back. Came for lunch and ordered half the menu and did NOT regret it! Small classic looking diner that is full of mostly regulars, but a great homey and welcoming vibe to the place! My two favorites of what we ordered were the steak and eggs (the steak was PERFECTLY cooked and insanely delicious) and the grilled cheese. Let me stop for a moment and talk to you about this grilled cheese. It changed my life. No grilled cheese will ever love up to it. Honestly I've lost sleep thinking about it. This spot is serving socially distanced indoor seating and take out. The food was awesome. I had the philly and cheese curds. Absolutely delicious! Best in town. My husband had the special. It was Hungarian goulash. He said it was so good. Will definitely be coming back. read more

A diner that's as good as it gets ... 10 am Saturday morning found the tables full except far back in the restaurant, so my travel partner & I sat at the counter and enjoyed the view of the cook doing her thing on the grill. As it's said, it is what it is, a greesy spoon. I have been coming here for the better part of 20 years and have almost always ordered the same thing - the seven come eleven steak and eggs special. My last few visits it seems the food quality is becoming less than desirable and the prices aren't worth it anymore, even though they are still cheaper than most places. I tried to introduce my kids to it as a good hole in the wall and most of them have been disappointed. My last experience in there with my new husband pretty much sealed the deal with less than friendly service and food that just didn't do it for us! He said he won't go back but I won't say that... Ordered carry out for friends and myself. Food for 3 of us was $24, so very reasonable. I ordered Hot Beef, friends both ordered Cheeseburger and Fries. The hot beef was very good, huge portion only able to eat half. Came with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans. The beef was thicker slices, but very tender and juicy. We ordered food and it was ready within 10 minutes. Would order from them again. My only negative is that they do not take debit or credit cards, and I use plastic for nearly everything, was just lucky my friends had cash as I normally do not carry much cash. read more

Greasiest greasy spoon in SBI! Old shabby and full of character probably the best breakfast you can get in town! Coworker said one day "that grill they cook on is so old greasy and seasoned, your food bound to taste good just from coming in contact with it!" Now i say this to a Mathew K. from South Bend, In You should apologize for lying in your review , saying that they took your debit card and wouldn't give it back.. Like I said I have been coming here for years and they have never, I repeat Never accepted Debit or Credit cards, this is a cash only establishment.. Anyway if your looking for good food and your wallet is a little light that day, I suggest you stop in. they have daily specials and just good ole fashioned food. I regularly order either the Jumbo Cheeseburger special or the Elephant Ear Tenderloin Special, both come with your choice of potato and a drink.. and of course what ever fixings you like on your sandwich.. for around 6 bucks.. I would not even give one star but yelp requires it to leave a review. Came here with my husband on one of his rare weekdays off, and our experience was less than mediocre. My husband had the biscuits and gravy, it came out cold so we sent it back and it came back only a few minutes later so hot we knew it had been microwaved, also you could tell the gravy was that powdered stuff you can buy at the grocery store. I had 2 eggs hash browns and pancakes. The hash browns were still partially frozen and the pancakes were lumpy and tasteless! We won't be going back! read more

I went in & the place was shabby. Due to waitress & cook being sweet I order a to go breakfast. The cook coughed in her hand and did NOT wash them, instead wiped them on a used rag. She then wipe her sweat off her forehead with hands again then got dry paper towels n wiped. She then with the same dirty hands went in freezer n grab a frozen hamburger bare handed n placed on grill. I could not believe my eyes because this was so unsanitary. I did not want to eat her sweat or germs from her cough! She then grabbed bacon slices and put on grill and just wiped hands on apron. My child was like mom!! I said get up and we walked out!! My brother in-law said he had the same experience with same female and asked for money back because he witnessed the cook doing same thing. read more
