Visited here today while in town. The location isn't the greatest and it looks run down from the outside and in the inside. The menu is huge, anything you could want. The prices are fair as well. We ordered the everything skillet which comes with either toast or pancakes. It was huge. The taste was excellent. I had to add some salt but otherwise the flavor was on point. I've never had a bad meal here, just wish they'd fix the place up some inside. The booths and tables aren't the most comfortable. read more

typical greek restaurant, service was very good. the place is a little worn and shabby... the quarry tile floor from the chicken shack that used to operate in the same building is still there... cracked grout and all. The menu is huge in typical greek restaurant fashion, and prices are pretty modest. mu daughter had eggs benedict and I had a country breakfast burrito tooped w gravy. much to my surprise the food was incredibly good. Blazing hot, potatoes were crispy, sausage gravy was home made not from a bag. The server brought a house made hot sauce that was very good. My daughters benedict was good too-- she said as good as the Curves which sets a pretty high bar for quality food. if you want a really well prepared breakfast, and can look past the dingy ambience--- Bendix cafe is a gem. food was 4 star --- atmosphere 2. 3 stars overall read more

This was a total surprise! It's a bit rocky on appearance, but big on service and quality of food! We were driving by and decided to stop in as we'd hadn't ever before. The place was busy on a snowy morning and the plates coming out of the kitchen were hot and heaping. Our server was very pleasant and timely with our order. We will make a point to return. I haven't been in here for a while, but was close by and wanted to try again. This is a small restaurant, maybe 10 tables, but I recommend trying it. The prices have gone up, which is pretty much everywhere. I had the Juevos con chorizo (eggs and chorizo, which is a Spanish or spicy sausage). It was delicious, $9.55. They were polite and friendly. My only complaint is that the waitress was too busy talking to other employees and did not return to the dining area. I had no water for my meal and she never checked on me. I was the only customer in the dining area and several dirty tables were waiting also. When the cashier asked me how everything was I honestly told her the service was poor and her tip reflected that. She gave me a discount, which I wasn't expecting, and apologized. Maybe the waitress was preoccupied, having a bad day or something, but I am an excellent tipper when I receive good service. All and all, I still recommend this restaurant! read more

The Bendix has become our go-to place for breakfast on the weekend. The food is typical "Greek" diner. They have an extensive menu, and everything we've tried has been consistently good. I always take half of my meal home and have it for lunch the next day; my husband eats everything on his plate then complains that he ate too much. The staff is incredibly friendly and hard-working. We have our beverage order within seconds of being seated because they get it when we walk in the door. We only go out for breakfast about twice a month, so I consider this extraordinary. The service is fast, and my glass is never empty. It doesn't look like much, and it's not in a fantastic location (corner of Miami and Indiana), but The Bendix is a gem. You know it's good because there's nearly always a group of firefighters or police officers eating there - that's how you pick a solid breakfast joint. Their lunch selections are good too! read more

This place is great. I drive all the way from SW Missouri to eat here! Their omelet is the best I've ever had, especially considering the price. It's a 3 egg omelet and two pancakes and hashbrowns for around $7. This place puts any breakfast chain I've seen to shame. read more

First time visitor from Buffalo, NY. Good service and very affordable, and if you're a fan of generous portion sizes, you'll be jazzed. Country skillet needed hot sauce for added spice, but eggs were prepared as ordered and great crunch on edges of potatoes. Fries were tremendous, surprisingly. You could tell the oil was pretty aggressive that the 'fried' taste masked the potato's flavor, but whatever -- they were good diner fries. Would go back again if I visit. read more

I ordered from here TWICE. The first was time was great. I was very pleased & the lady who took my order was nice & even gave me compliments (possibly to get a nice tip). I certainly tipped good!! However, the second time was horrible. I found a hair ball in my vegetable skillet! That big of a hair ball could not have been an mistake. We took back all of our food but they acted like we planted the hair to get free food or something. We were upset because we had to go back to the store & was not treated with respect. I need to admit a few things. First, I'm reviewing the Bendix Cafe on April 5, 2014, even though I haven't been here since September 2013. There's nothing unusual or untoward about that. I often review places long after I've visited, and seven months' turnaround is pretty good, at least for me. Second, I wanted to drop them a star because their interior is so very very temporary and shoddy. There's just no getting around that. But somehow, I got around that, because I'm keeping the rating at four stars. Third, back to the September 2013 thing. As you're very well aware, it's April 2014. I'm sad. Not because of the normal things that make me sad. Yes, I'm sad because of those things, but I've got added sadness-inducers. One, I'm listening to "Yellow Ledbetter" right now. Two, Natalie Achonwa is out for the remaining two games (we can hope) of the season because of a torn ACL in her left knee. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't ask me, because I've been obsessing about it all week, and I don't need more fuel for this dysfunctional fire. Three--and this is the whole point of these admissions--I was just in Sound Bend. I saw two of the greatest games of Ace's career. Her career is over--OK, not her entire career, which I hope will be very long and will include multiple WNBA championships and Olympic gold medals (take that, Team USA, except for you, Skylar, I love you, and I want you to have the game of your life against Team Canada but still to lose, maybe drop 46 points, grab 8 boards, dish 12 assists, get 3 steals, and maybe even a block--what the hell, you can block one of Natalie's shots; she won't care as long as they're playing "O Canada" at the medal ceremony), but her Notre Dame career. I think we can take Maryland, but I'm very worried about going against UConn without Natalie. Breakfast is delicious here. Don't let the janky, unfinished interior fool you. Maybe sit as far away from the front door as possible. The service is excellent. South Bend isn't perfect, and gentrification is taking its toll, but some places still have more character than most people. I don't include Natalie Achonwa among most people, as should be obvious to anyone who has ever watched her play. She's a dirty birdie in terms of her on-court language, but a team needs a little firing up now and then. And she's Canadian. Who doesn't love tall Canadian women who drop F-bombs all over the court? Oh, and before she went down, she was shooting 71 percent from the field in the NCAA Tournament. From the f---ing field! In the Big F---ing Dance! Against some really tough competition, including Baylor. I encourage you to visit South Bend for a Notre Dame women's basketball game. And to visit the Bendix Cafe. You just won't be seeing Ace on the court. Next season will be very sad, even if we do well. Go beat the crap out of the Terrapins, ladies! read more

This place could be better. It is A-OK. They make both Mexican and American breakfast but could work a bit on delivery. Strikes me as a work in progress, but for the price it is a good value diner on a strip that should be redeveloped in South Bend. Miami Street could be so cool. The portion was big for the price. But you can't taste the food cox of excessive amount of cheese in my Greek skillet or some cheap sauce on my girl friends creeps. It took a long time to get the food mostly because only one people working as a waitress and manager. We waited for the bill so long we just walked to the counter to pay it. Disappointed. Very attentive staff. Food variety is good. This is the second location in South Bend. It is smaller but quality is still very good. I had the burrito with steak and sauce on the side. I recommend the sauce on the side as a dipping sauce. The Mexican tacos are good and had them with a side of rice and beans. I would highly recommend. read more

I went in this morning and I was there about 5 maybe 10mins before this couple came in. So instead of the waitress coming to my table she quickly rushed to theirs knowing I was ahead of them. I think its because they were Hispanic but I hope that wasn't the case. All in all the food is dynamite but service needs to be fair. read more
