Another excellent meal driving through Union, KY! I wouldn't have guessed how good it was from the location (strip mall), but the reviews drew me in. Homemade salad dressings, fresh cornbread, fantastic omelette, breakfast potatoes were tasty and crispy, waffles, chicken, and fresh fruit. Everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. Oh so delicious and fun! The staff is great! We came for an early dinner. We didn't get any appetizers, although they do have some very good looking options. My boyfriend got the Buffalo chicken sandwich with baked beans. The sandwich was great with the perfect amount of toppings. And the beans were awesome! Very flavorful! I got the Brussel sprouts salad with salmon. Kinda pricy, but definitely worth it! I got it with Buffalo sauce instead of dressing. Sorry, I like spicy stuff. It was perfect! There wasn't a long wait on anything. And our drinks stayed filled. My boyfriend got a mixed drink and he said it was great. He's kind of picky about how some places make drinks. This was our first time here and we loved it! Our server Doug was very personable and knowledgeable. What he recommended we ordered. We had the Brussels and cauliflower appetizer it was so delish! It had the sweet chili sauce omgeeee . For our entree we had the shrimp and grits and the fish n chips. My fish was okay could've had some more seasoning the shoestring fries were delicious! The shrimp and grits my hubby had were also good he loved his dish. We also had the banana fosters bread pudding oh man was it soooooo good! Served warm with ice cream it was absolutely wonderful . My husband and I enjoyed eating here, " but no more". The best thing on the menu was removed salmon and lo mien noodles! with Brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Not only was it the best thing on the menu, but the bestselling item according to ever waitress we had wait on us. Please bring it back to your menu! The cod fish sandwich and fries I had was not very good. I had this sandwich in the past and was much better some changes aren't for the good. read more

We decided to try Kitchen 1883 this morning for brunch and we're glad we did. The service was very good. Our waitress did a good job answering our questions about the menu. The food itself was very good. My wife commented how everything was freshly prepared and you could tell the ingredients are high quality. The eggs, goetta, biscuits, and pancake were all delicious. My wife got a burger and it was also very good. The coffee was strong and they were quick to get us refills. This place is now a welcome new spot for Sunday morning breakfasts/brunches! read more

It was alright. My wife got just the standard eggs and meat breakfast. The bacon was def really bad. I love meat and bacon but their bacon was spiced and just way over seasoned. Normally I'm stoked and clean her plate after i finish my food and there's no way i was eating that. We actually left all the bacon on the plate. I felt bad in a weird way but it was that bad. I had the eggs Benedict. Or their version. I think it was the corned beef version rather than ham. The eggs were cooked well but the muffins weren't even toasted. So they were just a soggy mess. I ended up eating the meat and eggs and not the muffins. For the price of breakfast I'd just head in to Kroger and grab a dozen eggs, a bag of hash browns, some fresh fruit and maybe even invite a stranger. 34 bucks without booze. After hearing my breakfast partner complain (not gonna call my wife out) it would have helped just to slam my head in the car door a couple times after i bought my own breakfast from the grocery store. I mean don't get me wrong. It looked good. Eggs were cooked perfect. Bacon was just really bad. Way over priced for what it is. And you'll just do yourself a favor by making breakfast at home. read more

Had Easter brunch with my family of three. Table was ready when we arrived. Waiter was very friendly. Had the deviled eggs which were good. I ordered the Smoked Pork Hash which was highly recommended by the server. Dish was mainly all potatoes and little to no smoked pork meat. You would think there would be nice pieces of meat but there wasn't. Very disappointing. Was also spicy which I didn't know it would be spicy. Dish was also very greasy. I ate the dish because I was hungry and didn't want to make an issue at Easter. Wife ordered the typical breakfast with goetta. Breakfast arrived and there was two very small goetta patties.?? I mean very small. My son ordered the fried chic steak. Good but heavily battered which is OK if you're into heavy batter. Disappointed as before it exceeded my expectations. This was my first experience here. My dad and stepmom have gone several times since it's opened. I had the flat iron steak, and it was great! They did a horseradish mashed potatoes, but the horseradish wasn't overly strong. The steak was cooked perfectly. We had the key lime dessert as well. I forgot to take pictures, but the portions were a great size for the price. All the food looked amazing! Our waiter, Doug A., was phenomenal. He was extremely personable, knowledgeable, and remembered my dad/stepmom from their other visits. The roasted cauliflower and brusselsprouts appetizer was spicy and filling by itself, but paired with a flight of mimosas was legendary. The perfect non-traditional brunch for my tummy. The boys had a fruit topped Belgian Waffle and a traditional breakfast my husband was home sick so I got him some cabbage and corned beef hash soup which he said really hit the spot. The only thumbs down was I ordered a bowl of soup and got what was definitely a cup and maybe only full to 6oz. We stopped here on our way home and I have to say all the food we got here was really excellent. My husband got a cheeseburger and I had a salad and some pretzel bites and a sandwich and it was all surprisingly great. Great service. You can watch the game. So convenient. My husband volunteers to go to Kroger's more and takes an alarming amount of time as I suspect he takes a rest stop here before shopping. Good job!! What a great Union addition! read more

The lamb gyros were inedible along with the goat cheese dip, which was a red glob (nothing like the picture on their site. Ordered to-go from here twice, same meal both times. First time was good, second time was so bland. One time we tried to order (in between those two times) and the call kept going right to a voicemail service, so we gave up. It does look nice and clean inside, just overpriced for a Kroger restaurant. We have been trying to go to new places to eat the past few weeks. We had just gone to church and couldn't decide on where to go. We drove by Kitchen 1883 and decided to give it a try not knowing what to expect. I had read good things, but wasn't sure. The interior is very cool. I loved the openness yet coziness of it. It is a really nice restaurant. We were seated immediately at a high table and it seemed there was usually one or two parties waiting to be seated. Food wise, we were not sure what to expect. My husband had a burger, daughter fish and chips, son a grilled cheese. All of there meals were good, but they wouldn't say anything out of the ordinary. The shoestring fries were flavored very nicely. I on the other hand had a DELICOUS meal. I had the pan seared salmon with cali-sprouts. My mouth watered after the first bite. The salmon was moist and tender and had a lovely teriyaki glaze. The cali-sprouts were to die for. Oh by goodness my mouth waters thinking about them. I would say the only two downsides was the service was slow and they kept running out of clean glasses. Not sure what that was about. Keep an eye out for coupons in the packets which you receive in the mail. I found some after we came home. Oops! read more

I have been wanting to try this restaurant out for quite some time now! I'm SO glad we decided to stop in! We ordered the chicken and waffles (I am a sucker for a good chicken and waffles so if it's on the menu I am probably going to order it!) and I was not disappointed! The waffles were seasoned wonderfully and had a great crunch to them and the chicken seemed to have this multigrain seasoning to them and was really tasty. We also ordered the spicy honey-dip chicken sandwich. My husband really liked the blue-cheese slaw! Kitchen 1883 is the Kroger grocery chain's first attempt at creating a sit-down restaurant. They will have to work this one a bit. Don't waste your money, you will be disappointed. We had lunch there with a family of 4, including 2 younger children. Initially, we were only the second party in the restaurant, so it was mostly empty. Only after we specifically asked for it were they willing to share the kid's menu with us. Overall, service was friendly, but hardly attentive. While we were eating one of the female employees was loudly berating one of her male colleagues, giving us an unwanted live view to a spectacle that we could have done without ("Mommy, why is this woman so mad?" - "Eat your food, sweetheart"). We tried a wrap, a burger, mac cheese and grilled cheese (the last two from the kids menu). The $10 wrap was ok, but nothing special. The $12 "1883 Burger" was pretty good, but hardly spectacular. I added bacon to it - $2 for two slices of bacon. $1 per slice, really? Overall, the food is seriously lacking in value. We paid over $50 for a family of four and could easily have gotten better food for $30 in a nicer setting (Kitchen 1883 is located in a strip mall, attached to the new Kroger Marketplace in Union). It's not that it's bad. It's overpriced. read more
