This was a second-option spot for us to eat a meal before heading to the airport for a transatlantic flight. And it was...not what we wanted but it got the job done. It is located in a Kroger strip mall area but is slightly higher class than what one might think when they hear that. It was a weird off-peak time so it was no issue getting seated right away and service was pretty good. We started our late lunch and our vacation with a cocktail, both of which were pretty tasty! I wanted to make sure I got some veggies in me before a week+ of vacation eating, so I got a side salad, which was pretty ample for a side! I also got the mushroom ricotta dip appetizer as a "meal" and it was pretty delicious! Cheese, mushrooms and carbs...you can't go wrong with that in my opinion! We had an okay time, and we were able to dawdle and not be rushed. It wasn't our first choice on the day and likely wouldn't be at another time, but it was more than decent as a secondary/back-up choice for a place to eat. read more

Great food and service On a recent trip we were looking for something local to dine at and came across this restaurant. It is located next to the grocery store. The restaurant was clean and modern and had a great menu selection. The kids meals are $8 and come with a drink and side. I liked that they were really food just kids size versions. We had the sliders and chicken and waffles. On the adult menu we tried the cod dinner, hot honey chicken sandwich and pretzels and beer cheese. They also had a great selection of desserts. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The restaurant is connected to a Kroger in a strip mall. This means there was ample parking. The cocktail I ordered was Cake by the Ocean and it was pretty tasty, it had Tito's vodka, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, Chambord, and peach schnapps. I would order the drink again. My friend had the Black Berry Bourbon Sour and it was delicious as well, Old Forester bourbon, lemon juice, blackberries, and simple syrup. Mine was more sweet and hers was more bourbon forward but both were excellent. My friend ordered the cod sandwich and fries and I ordered the Cauli-Sprouts from the appetizer menu but added a piece of salmon to it. I loved mine. The Cauli-Sprouts were cauliflower and Brussels with a sweet chili glaze, sesame seeds, and scallions. The salmon was perfectly cooked. I am not sure I would change a thing if we come back again. I also go a surprise on Yelp when I checked in I was offered a coupon for a free dessert and although not on my diet I had to try the homemade pound cake with a tiramisu whipped cream and ice cream. Great find near a Kroger. 3-6pm is happy hour with a nice array of appetizers. The $5 beer cheese with pretzels is great. Hubs had the ribs with smashed herbed potatoes. The ribs are rubbed and sauce is on the side. I had the chicken and waffles. It came with a cayenne maple syrup. The spice level was not too much. At first I couldn't find it. Then I saw the sign and thought it was inside of Kroger. It is not but does have a weird way of getting inside of it. Came in today to try a new place while visiting someone who lives nearby. They must have been short staffed because a bunch of tables were free and empty but were told it would be a 10 minute wait. Was eventually seated. Service was very slow. Was expecting more of a lunch menu with sandwiches but it was more of a brunch/breakfast menu so I ordered breakfast. Potato's and toast were on point. Sausage and eggs were meh. Restaurant seemed to be on the smaller side. I don't think I would drive out of my way or make a point to eat here again. read more

Quick and tasty lunch option in the Florence-Union area! I've come to find that a good takeout salad is hard to come by - and I'm happy to say that Kitchen 1883 has some solid offerings whenever you're looking for something grab-and-go that's still healthy. This time, I scheduled an order for delivery, but I appreciate that they offer pick-up as well. The location is easy to access (attached to the Union Kroger) with ample parking. I ordered the Smokey Bleu Cheese Salad, and a bowl of the Bean Soup. Both were delicious! The soup was hot and flavorful - just what you want on a cold day. They also sent along some oyster crackers with my order, which made for a tasty topping. The salad was bright and fresh - a good dressing makes all the difference, and this one was delightfully creamy. The lettuce to topping ratio was also spot on - I could have done without the grapes, but that's just a personal preference, and I'm sure I could request this salad without them next time. Kitchen 1883 will be at the top of my list the next time I'm craving something healthy on-the-go (especially since they have three Tri-State locations). read more

The recipes are so well put together. Everything I put in my mouth bursted with flavor... WOW We had their wings as appetizers, they were so delicious. For entrees, we had fried cod (the best), salmon (so tasty) and steak. While I didn't taste the steak, my grandson ate everything on his plate. I saw the reviews and decided to visit... so glad we did! I'm not a local but if I were, I'd be a regular patron! I had a really full tummy, but couldn't resist dessert . Incredible food and an awesome staff! They are turning it out - dine in, carry out and curbside. I couldn't believe the volume they were doing,. And the flavors...amazing. Went with 2 apps - wings and the roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Both were incredible. All sauces are scratch made, and the combination of flavors is outstanding. I was hesitant to try this place at first since in was connected to Kroger but after reading recommended we had to go. I'm so glad we did. We decided to stop in for lunch. I didn't want a huge burger but I wished that they had a BLT. Here is where my rating comes in at a 5! They took the time to make me a BLT and fries. When a restaurant changes something for a picky patron, that left a Very Strong Impression on me. Couple that with one of the best servers that I have ever encountered. Second time I've been here and both times they delivered! Luckily both times the place hasn't been very busy so that may help. The service was great, from the host to the waitress, very friendly, kind and attentive. The waitress was always around the area, she took our order as soon as possible and made sure that everything came out perfectly. The food is really tasty and well seasoned but the best thing about it was the temperature which is something that very often is overlooked unless it's too cold. Everything was pipping hot as if it was just put on the plate and right in our table as soon as it was done, which to be honest is a rarity this days. Many restaurants cook orders as quickly as possible, put them on the heating rack for minutes while the other orders get done, then send them out all together, hence the hot plate and mildly warm food... This guys seem to time it so that all plates go out at the same time. Everything was perfect! My beer battered cod was crispy on the outside, shinny and juice on the inside, with smoke coming out of it, fries were perfectly crisp, a little salty which I didn't mind because I eat salty but for people who don't it may be a problem. The chicken and waffles was really good as well, I tried this one and It was similar to my cod, crispy on the outside, well seasoned, juicy and pipping hot on the inside. I'm not a fan of waffles so I didn't tried them but I was told they were really good with a Cayenne maple syrup mix that had a little kick but really good. I have to say its a great spot to visit, the inside its pretty open, they have tables outside as well and a nice bar too, plus they are right beside the Kroger's in Union so you can do your groceries after without even having to move your car hahaha. read more

One of the best chicken and waffles I've had! Perfectly crispy chicken and soft baked waffle quarters -- not the stale cardboard squares I've had at other places. The honey has a spicy cayenne kick to it. The hand carved brisket sandwich with bourbon BBQ sauce also isn't one to miss. I really don't write reviews but I just have to for this establishment. I came in on 04/12/2025, there was literally only 2 tables being taken care of. Got seated pretty quickly. Waited at least 10mins before anyone came to the table to take drink orders, meanwhile the boss was sitting at the bar folding utensils into the towels. 2 host sitting in the front talking & the one waitress taking care of 2 table. After waiting over 10mins the boss & I made eye contact & he noticed no-one came to the table yet, he quickly got up for the bar started quietly yelling at the his staff. Ordered the Fish 'n Chips & Spicy Chicken Wrap. Absolutely recommend both of these! The fish was not soggy in any way, it did not need vinegar, salt, tartar or the side of wonderful Remoulade, mmm which I used for the matchstick type fries that were also addicting. The Warm Spicy Chicken Wrap w/ beans, jalapeño, halved cherry tomatoes, cheese & sauce, side of slaw... I could eat this everyday! It was the perfect amount of spicy & savory. Yes this place might be sandwiched between Kroger and a Liquor Store, but don't let that discourage you. The place is nice, the people are nice, and the food is...nice. We went in here with high expectations based on the reviews and they pretty much hit it right in the 4-star money. We had the Bourbon BBQ Burger, the 1883 Burger, and the 1883 Old Fashioned. It was all good and we were both pleasantly surprised when they asked how we would like our burgers cooked. The only reason that Kitchen 1883 doesn't get 5 stars is due to the price. The food/drinks seemed just a bit overpriced for what it is. With that being said, this could change if we are blown away next time we're there. Very good experience overall. read more

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Truly a hidden gem!! The food is amazing and our waitress, Vonda, was phenomenal. I was in town on business and almost went back for dinner the next night.....it was that good! Vonda recommended the flatbread for an appetizer and we both loved it and the desert (Buckeye brownie) was to die for. I also tried the Cake by the Ocean cocktail which did not disappoint. I was in the area and this place has a lot of good reviews. My experience was very different. It's a nice looking restaurant and the staff are friendly, but the food is just not very good. I ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which was really delicious. As for the entree's, that was another story. I ordered the hot brown. I live out of state, and was excited to try this. They brought me some over cooked steak entree instead. It looked awful. I reminded the waitress I ordered the hot browns and the waitress had put in the wrong entree. When my hot brown came out, it was a hot mess. Completely burnt, and the bread was so tough I could barely chew it. I had a few bites. It was terrible. Really the worst thing I've eaten in a long time. I posted a picture of my entree. My mom ordered the Ruben with the dressing on the side. They forgot the thousand island when her sandwich came out. The sandwich was just okay. But at least it wasn't burnt. When my bill arrived, they charged me for the sirloin Oscar, so I had to ask them to remove it. All and all, not a good place to eat. Went to lunch with my sweet mama the other day at this wonderful spot connected to the Kroger in Union. Never thought I would like a restaurant so much that is in a Kroger's but it is so yummy We ordered the cauliflower Brussels sprouts appetizer which had an Asian sauce and had so much flavor Both of us got a small Bibb bacon bleu salad. I really wanted to like this place but was very disappointed. I met some friends there for dinner and was really looking forward to it, but it just wasn't a good experience. The food was pretty good (most of it) and my reason for giving it at least 3 stars but the service was absolutely terrible! One of my friends and I got there really early from our set meet time, so we got drinks and an appetizer. The drinks came our relatively quickly but we kept waiting on the appetizer. Finally, we asked our server if she put the order in and she hadn't. So, she put it in and it came out relatively quickly after that. We got spinach and artichoke dip. It was okay but not great. There was very little of it and the bread that it was supposed to go on was burnt. Our drinks were fine, nothing special. Our other friends arrive and it takes forever for our server to get their drink order and even longer to actually get the drinks. We luckily weren't in any hurry since we were catching up and there just to relax. It was a good thing because our server was so slow. It took forever for her to take our food order. I got shrimp and grits which was excellent. One of my friends got a burger that he said was good. Another friend got the white bean chilli but the server forgot to add the chicken to it. And the other friend got the pulled pork. Everyone's food was good. We decided to get dessert and again, it took forevermore for her to come over to us. I got the carrot cake that was over cooked and inedible. Two friends got the bread pudding that they liked and another friend got the chocolate chip cookie. I thought we would never get the checks and I had to flag her down from across the room. And she tried to communicate through charades about the checks. O finally made her come over because they needed to be divided up a particular way. She didn't listen and did it wrong. So she had to redo it. It really wasn't that complicated. Two checks were together and the other two separate. We all jumped to get our cards out because we knew it would take 3 days for her to come back and pick them up.
