Their menu--with no prices and limited explanations

Both the chicken suqaar and the sambusa were nicely seasoned and tasty. They were accompanied by flavorful sauces, one yogurt based and one spicy. So the food--or what we had of it--gets five stars. Perhaps it's a sign of the restaurant's authenticity that it is staffed by people who speak almost no English, although that poses some inconvenience. Asking if we could bring in a service dog took several attempts to be understood. The menu lists no prices!! When we asked the waitress how much the chicken suqaar cost, she did not know. She got a handheld point-of-sale terminal and looked up a price of $16. Although the menu explains some items, it lists mandazi, chappati kaykay, canbulo, caloley, and anjero with no explanation. If "Anjero Ethopian" are "Ethiopian sourdough crepes," perhaps they have some kind of filling? What is in the "Anjero Ethopian"? The waitress said she did not know. What is "mandazi"? The waitress said she did not know. Of course, it's probable that she just did not know what we were asking, though we did point to the item on the menu. Once the food arrived, the waitress never, ever came to the table again. So getting a refill on water was out of the question. The entire time we were there, we were the only people eating in the restaurant--though a couple of individuals stopped by to pick up to-go orders. So the food was great, but the experience was more than a little strange.

Every cuisine taste better when it's made with love and joy. Hanilul Kitchen delivers all of that with bold East African Somali flavors! Chef and owner Hannah greeted me with a charming and inviting smile! Her restaurant appears to be an unassuming African market from the outside, but inside you discover a stylish boutique with intricate wood trim, gold accents, and stylish decor. Formally known as Rahma, it has been reinvented as Hanilul Kitchen, simple and delicious Somali comfort food. For starters order the Sambusa! It's like an empanada stuffed with delicious spicy ground beef. For the main dish you have to try the Suuqar with chicken or beef. The chicken has a similar sweet flavor profile to Indian masala. Definitely order some Mandazi sweet bread to sop up the flavor of rice and Suuqar! It tastes like a sweet naan bread. For an after dinner drink try the Shaad Adays spiced tea with milk(it's like Chai) paired with Mandazi. If your looking to expand your ethnic culinary horizons beyond Tex-Mex and Chinese takeout, be delighted by the flavors of East Africa and support an emerging Erlanger local business!

    1 Somali Sambusa

If you find yourself near Cincinnati Airport and need an amazing bite to eat, look no further than Hanilul kitchen. This Somali place has the best service and staff is so friendly. Food is top notch and very affordable. Three dishes totaled to just under 40$ for two people, not to mention the HUGE portions.

    Inside

This place is absolutely fantastic. Every dish was so flavorful and a joy to eat. We had sambusa which was super crispy and full of filling, served with a spicy green sauce and a creamy yogurt sauce, chicken cooked in Somalian spices, and lamb shank on rice. Our server was very friendly and enthusiastic. The tables inside are big and there are a lot of booths.

I've finally found a new go-to restaurant for when I'm flying out of CVG! My usual favorite is…read moreTousey House, but they aren't open for dinner on Sundays so I needed to find an alternative. Fort Mitchell Public House Bar and Grill checks all of my boxes. The first thing I look for is a nice patio. Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating today, but I will be back for this fabulous patio. I was there before the dinner rush, which explains the emptiness of the restaurant. More people started arriving after 5:00. There were so many yummy sounding choices on the menu that it was hard to decide. I asked my server, Erin, what she recommends and she said the CAJUN BOURBON FILET TIPS were her favorite. I went with that and was not disappointed. The filet was cooked and seasoned perfectly. It is served over mashed potatoes and topped with onion straws. While the beef portion was small, it was a satisfying meal and the flavors were perfection! I added a side Caesar salad. Their house-made croutons were so good and the dressing was tasty and perfectly portioned. I don't often order dessert, but decided to splurge tonight and got a slice of the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake to-go. OMG, this is one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. It was light and dense at the same time, if that makes sense. So creamy and melt in your mouth delicious. I will dream about it tonight LOL.

The place is comfortable; the tables are nicely spaced. Though it's a bar and grill, it has the feel of a restaurant. The menu is huge; so many options! I decided what I wanted, but kept looking at the menu. I considered changing my mind several times, but stuck with my original choice - SAIGON SALAD - arcadian greens / red and green onions / almonds / rice noodles / grilled chicken / soy ginger vinaigrette. The salad had a nice mix of greens. The chicken had an honest to goodness grilled flavor. It was the perfect size and seemed like a light option. It was delicious and I left feeling perfectly satisfied. Mark had CAJUN CREAM PASTA - grilled chicken breast / artichokes / black olives / tomatoes / spicy cream sauce/ penne. I failed miserably taking a picture, but I can tell you Mark raved about it. He also agreed the chicken had a great grilled flavor. He said the sauce, not too spicy at all, was delicious. He ate every bite. Three people had SALMON SLIDERS - grilled salmon / arcadian greens / tomato / remolaude / slider buns / chips. Everyone enjoyed them, though one mentioned the salmon had a habit of exiting the bun. Someone had a burger and another had NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN WRAP - fried chicken / cayenne chili oil / honey / shredded cabbage / cheddar / pickles/ chips. He said it was quite good and rather spicy. Everyone was happy with their meal. With so many other options on the menu, we could come back and easily all order something different.

The building is beautiful as is the interior. There are lots of little rooms and the tables are pretty tight. It was a bit difficult for wait staff to get around, but the service was still attentive. Two of us ordered the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich w/ fries. That darn sandwich was delicious!! It was sticky as all get out, but it was delicious! I'll apologize now; my pic is so blurry I hesitate to post it, but I'm going to anyway. The other person having the Pork Tenderloin also enjoyed it. Mark ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown. He said it was loaded with ham and it was salty. He finished every bite, but he did say he wouldn't order it again. One person loved her Cod (she didn't eat the bread) and another said the shrimp and grits were very good. The menu has lots of options. I mentioned we would be happy to come back sometime for dinner. We bought some chocolate cookies (they are by the hostess podium) on the way out. They had a nice chocolate and salt flavor, but should have had more chips.
