I came on a Monday night with a friend and was seated as soon as we walked in. It was a little after 8pm. I was amazed at the ambiance at the decor but noticed that it felt a little quiet and there were plenty of open tables. They have a beautifully decorated seating area. I'm not sure if it's meant as a waiting area or if you can order food and drinks from the soft sofa type seats. I just couldn't help thinking that it was quiet and felt empty. They had music playing but it wasn't really adding to the ambiance. Let's talk about the food. My friend and I started with 3 appetizers to share thinking that it might be enough to satisfy us. We went with the Bang Bang Shrimp, Tuna Crudo and the Lobster Toast. My friend ordered a pomegranate cocktail which she liked enough to order another round. We were surprised at how small the portions are on the appetizers considering the prices. The best one was the Bang Bang Shrimp. But I honestly still think that it's a pretty simple dish. Nothing is really unique about a battered deep fried jumbo shrimp tossed in a kind of spicy aioli. Definitely not enough to warrant the price. We added an order of their grilled meat plate to share. Unfortunately, that was also a tiny serving for almost $30. The portion in the protein was so small, the plate looked a little sad. I didn't take a picture of it because it looked so sad. Let's talk about the service. Remember that pomegranate cocktail that my friend liked enough to order another round? Well that round never made it to our table. It was time to get the check and my friend just had to politely tell the waiter to cancel it. I immediately knew when they told me the menu has changed 3 times in the last 3 weeks I was in for an experience... not a good one at that. We were served very mediocre food. Then a threshold was met. I typically do not like leaving negative reviews but they served us RAW chicken. I showed them and they took the plate, cooked the chicken and then brought it back out on the SAME PLATE. I had eaten a piece before I noticed as well. Not a single apology from a manager. Whenever i paid my bill the charge was still on there!!! I argued it and they offered to cover ONLY 40% of it!!! I had to argue with my waiter who was the middle man of the conversation with the manager. I really can see this place thriving but they need to find their identity. What I encountered lastnight was unacceptable. Not even an apology from the manager. I had to fight to have the item removed from my bill. 0/10 experience. The only thing that fell a little short for me was the pita bread served with the hummus. Compared to how amazing the hummus was, the pita just didn't stand out. My mom ordered the tempura vegetables and a Caesar salad, both of which she enjoyed. The only miss of the afternoon was the tea, which arrived lukewarm and lacked flavor. I wanted to snap a few photos, but the menu kindly requests no flash photography, and the space is pretty dark, so no high quality pics from me. Our server was amazing, I hate I forgot his name. He was very personable and great at reading the table. He gave thoughtful recommendations based on what we said we were in the mood to do in Nola that evening, which I always appreciate. This was my first time trying bone marrow, and honestly it just wasn't for me. But that's more about my personal taste than anything the restaurant did. On the other hand, the Japanese sweet potato was really good. It was perfectly cooked with a nice soy glaze, and the pickled vegetables alongside it added a great balance. ** Long Review** We had a reservation for 9:45 pm for 4 people and arrived at 9:48 but the table wasnt ready. We decided to order drinks at the bar. Around 10:05 we asked if our table was ready and they said almost. It seemed they were waiting for people to leave to clean the table and seat us. The bar wasn't much better. We ordered the sangria, which is for 4 people and they had to make it from scratch, which was nice, but it took a while. And I watched as the two bartenders seemingly stopped working on our drink and started serving other people. We didn't question it, because we don't know their process. Maybe they needed some fresher ingredients. When they finally told us our table was almost ready (felt like they were building it from scratch) we asked if they could bring the sangria pitcher (which was made in a water jug) to our table and it seemed they just left it at that. I didn't see the sangria continue to be made. another 5 min passed and the bartender asked if we had our table yet and I was just as confused as he was. He had to be the one to ask the host what the status of our table was at 10:20 and finally, finally, we were seated. 35 minutes after our reservation time and 32 minutes after we arrived, we were finally seated. sometimes this is not a problem when the vibe is good and you're entertained, such as if we had drinks and could hear each other but we were hungry, thirsty, and tired of just standing around. When we got to our table, they compensated for the wait by giving us a bottle of bubbles, which was nice, but we don't like bubbles so we didn't finish the bottle or the glasses that were poured. So that's cool. the sentiment would have went further if they offered to comp our sangria or asked us if there was something we liked. But I guess champagne is a universal placating tool. Ambiance: The vibe and ambience of the place was cool. A little loud by our table, so it was hard to hear each other without slightly shouting or leaning into each other's ears. And a bit too dark on the mood lighting that we needed our flashlights to see the menu and our dishes. But overall cute and picturesque, however, I am not one that values the pic over the quality of service and food. Drinks: Our sangria was placed on our table and we saw that it was sparkling, which none of us ordered. So we had to send it back because we didn't ask for it to be sparkling (this was an option on the menu that we did not request) so the server took it back and by the time it was brought back out the cups that came with the pitcher already had melting ice and water in them and the waiter poured the sangria in the glasses so it was slightly watered down. Dishes: My plate on the table was dirty, something I would have caught if I could see it. I randomly felt the plate while chatting and felt dried crusted food on the corner and immediately pulled my flash light out and indeed saw some dried food. That put me off and prompted me to check everything on the table at that point. The forks were not in the best state. They were gold covered but the gold covering was already coming off and revealing the silver underneath. The bang bang shrimp were soggy. bang bang I've had at other places is usually crispy and hot but this was lukewarm and soggy which is strange for shrimp fried in batter. It was like they fried the shrimp, put it in the sauce and let it sit. Think reheated fried food texture. The wagyu skewer was ok. Not overly seasoned but also not really seasoned. The tuna tartare was ok but the nori (seaweed) that came with it was not good. For a dry sheet It was plastic-y and rubbery and the taste was stale. I am a seaweed Stan and have tried hundreds of seaweed varieties in different brands, flavors, and different countries, and I can say this was not good quality. It was hard to rip and chew and it brought the taste of the tuna tartare down. Overall I was not impressed. Maybe it was an off day, but it definitely did not leave a good impression. The quality for the price did not add up. Honorable mention: I do want to give a shout out to our sever, Sabrina. She was kind and quick and did the best with what was happening.
