My boyfriend and I came to Restaurant August to celebrate my 20th birthday, and unfortunately we left very disappointed. This was our first experience with a multi-course menu, so we had a lot of questions. Our server spoke so quietly that we could barely hear him, and instead of helping us understand how everything worked, we left feeling confused. I'm a picky eater, so I asked more than once if I could order the steak I saw on the menu, but I never received a clear explanation that it wasn't an option. Instead, I had to choose first, second, third, and fourth courses that I didn't even like because (i thought those were my only choices). I ended up eating only the appetizers and none of the chef's complimentary dishes. My boyfriend only really enjoyed one of his courses and the appetizers. I simply wanted a nice dinner to celebrate my birthday, but instead I left disappointed, hungry, and feeling like the experience did not come close to matching the price tag of over 250!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you're seeking a spot that will absolutely deliver on every aspect of the dining experience for a special occasion, an impressive night out, or a splurge-worthy meal, Restaurant August will not disappoint. For our fourth wedding anniversary, we chose the four-course menu and had a true five-star experience. From the amuse-bouche to the final case of sweet treats after dinner, every presentation and flavor was exceptional. Restaurant August excels at hospitality, and the dining room's warm tones create an inviting atmosphere, especially after sunset when the chandeliers and candlelight begin to glow. We also appreciated how thoughtfully the wines by the glass paired with the menu options. Honestly, we struggled to choose a favorite dish because every course was memorable and beautifully executed! Thank you, Restaurant August, for such a wonderful evening celebrating our anniversary. We will absolutely recommend this restaurant for years to come and hope to return again someday. read more

We were excited to dine at Restaurant August on Monday, our first visit. They are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, which made the experience feel even more special. The setting is stunning. A beautiful open dining room inside a historic building. While we waited in the bar for our guests to arrive, it was clear this was a polished operation. The service team carried themselves with a level of sophistication you don't see everywhere. We chose the four course tasting menu, where each course offers three options. With four of us dining, we ordered every option and doubled up on one we thought deserved a larger portion. First Course Tuna Crudo Wagyu Beef Tartare Grilled Gulf Shrimp Second Course Gnocchi "Black and Blue" Crawfish Tartlet Diver Scallop Third Course Irodori Wagyu Manhattan Strip Snapper Pontchartrain Dry-Aged Duck Breast Fourth Course Tarte à la Bouille Hummingbird Cake After Dinner Mint Course after course, the food was outstanding. Creative, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The only item we would not order again was the After Dinner Mint dessert. It leaned a bit too heavily on the mint. The wine list is impressive. We ended up ordering three bottles over the course of the evening and enjoyed each one. One issue kept this from being a perfect experience. The third course, our entrée, took 46 minutes to arrive, compared to about 15 minutes between the earlier and later courses. There was no proactive communication from our server. I had to flag her down to ask, and was told it was on the way. That delay stretched our evening by close to 30 minutes, and there was no acknowledgment or effort to make up for it. If I'm scoring it, the food is a 5 out of 5 without question. The service, because of that lapse, was closer to a 3. I'll meet in the middle and give Restaurant August a 4 overall. Even with that hiccup, this was one of the best meals we've ever had in New Orleans. read more

Each course was perfection! 5 stars+ Service was outstanding, Seating in the restaurant requires all parties to have with the 4 or 7 course pre fixe. I had the 4 for $125. It was worth every cent. The tuna crudo was so good I could eat a pound of it. The wagyu was off the charts. The cocktails are great, I went with the Sazerac. Yum read more

The food was impeccable. We did a four course meal at $125 per person. The options were out of this world things we've never had before. The Service was equally as amazing. It felt like we were teleported to some Parisian restaurant. They came around with compliments of the Chef twice and their attention to detail in the decor in restaurant was amazing. read more

Man, we almost missed out on August. This ended up being our last meal of the trip and honestly we were already in full glutton mode. Earlier that day we did Brennan's, then Loretta's, Café Du Monde, and even stopped at Sun Chong's for the gumbo dumplings and redfish po'boy. By the time we got here for our reservation, we were barely even hungry. Luckily they were super accommodating and let us sit at the bar and order à la carte. We started with the Wild Mushrooms and Escargot, the Gnocchi "Black and Blue," and the Bluefin Tuna Tiradito. Everything was seriously so good. Even though we were full, we looked at each other and said we had to order at least one entrée, so we went with the Red Snapper Pontchartrain and it was worth it. And yes... even completely stuffed, we still ordered dessert. We got both the mint chocolate and the strawberry shortcake because at that point why not. Highly recommend both. Definitely a spot we'll have to come back to next time. Also, shoutout to our bartender. She was great and honestly made the night. read more

Restaurant August - snapper Pontchartrain - New American Near Me - New Orleans, Louisiana

We dined here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! It's small plates but after all the course, you are satisfied and comfortably full. Beautiful decor and setting - very intimate and romantic. We amuse bouche which was divine. There were two other small bites equally tasty before the 4 course began. I had the tuna tiradito and my husband had the steak tartare. I then had the black and blue gnocchi while he had the scallop (yes it was just one large one but delicious). For the third course I had a flavorful Wagyu while he had the snapper. Dessert was a tasty milk, tea, & honey lemon cake while he had the hummingbird cake - mine was definitely the favorite of the two but both were nice. Service was exceptional and constant. Highly recommend for a special occasion - not Cajun slanted but a very nice and enjoyable way to celebrate an anniversary! read more

If you're even thinking about dining here, just book the reservation. It's a culinary experience you'll remember forever. All of the food was fantastic. I absolutely loved that the servers came out and explained each and every dish. They use so many high quality ingredients that you can truly taste. I did the tasting menu and loved each dish. The dessert was unlike anything else I've had. It was citrusy and had layers within the white chocolate shell. My highlights were the blue crab tartlet, grouper, and Wagyu. This Wagyu legitimately melted away as I chewed it. It was so tender and flavorful. read more

This restaurant was on my list for a long time as its 2 block away from my house still never got a chance to go there. Reservation was very smooth while i had some questions about my dietary restrictions which they took care of it. I am usually type of guy who enjoys some good expensive wine than the food and i was impressed with both wine selections which my sommelier suggested me. Me and my gf really enjoyed all the food with lots of colours and flavours. Had a wonderful chef's special 7-10 course meal with my gf service and the explaination of the food was amazing but could have been more interactive service like waiter came once or twice and saw him at the end !! Lots of different flavours on food. Thank you soo much once again for doing vegetarian 10 dish 7 course menu. I would recommend them to try for michelin star or hopefully they can get it when michelin visited new orelans ! read more

One of the best meals I have ever had and anyone I talk to that has been here said the same thing. Everything was perfect from the ambiance to the service to the food. I would fly to NOLA just to eat here . Favorites included: tuna crudo, roasted eggplant, coal roasted Iberico pork, the grilled royal red shrimp (a very NOLA type dish and the dry aged duck. You MUST order dessert, oh my gosh! The after dinner mint was incredible. The mint ice cream was incredible! The wine list was outstanding. There are some restaurants that like to masquerade as fine dining and charge exorbitant fees but this is true fine dining. The price point is $$$$ for a reason. The restaurant is small, but cozy. Several waiters greet you as you get settled and cater with a flourish. The bathrooms are clean and everything is spotless. The menu is small and the options on the chef's special are not available in the a la carte menu. We opted for a la carte. We got the tuna crudo, which was lovely. Small pieces of fresh blue fin tuna paired with a passion fruit slush. While icy and a little strange texturally, the flavors worked well together. Then we had the coal-roasted iberico pork, which came with roasted okra and a tomato marmalade. While small, the pork was tender and paired well with the slight spice of the sauces. We also had a the black and blue gnocchi, which was slightly heavier, a fancy macaroni and cheese with truffle slices and crab. The entrees were grilled scallops and wagyu steak. The scallops were cooked well with a delightful sauce, soft and tender. I usually don't like scallops but these were quite well done. The Wagyu came with a nice tart veggie side and aligot that really paired well. Cooked to a lovely medium as requested. Finally, we had two desserts. While the blackberry opera cake was good, it did not wow us and after the full meal, it became a little tedious to eat. The custard tart though was fantastic, a rich, deep caramel flavor paired with the lighter milk sherbet (although I am unsure why they opted for sherbet over ice cream). In total, it cost about $300 for the meal (including tax and tip) for two. This is a splurge, something that I see only the wealthy and/or someone celebrating something important to be able to do. But it's fine dining for a reason and it truly knows what fine dining is. read more

August is a gorgeous restaurant that came heavily recommended. I wasn't feeling very well and my group was not super hungry prior to the reservation which was unfortunate since the food we tried was delicious. Service was excellent!! We ordered the following: gnocchi "black and blue": 5/5 Great truffle flavor with fresh shaved truffles on top. Louisiana tomato tart: 5/5 We ended up ordering two of these since it was our favorite. The tomatoes are so fresh and the flavor of the tart was just incredible. I would come back just for this! Imperial Wagyu Manhattan strip: 3/5 While the flavor of the steak was great, I expected the meat quality to be better. There wasn't much marbling and wasn't very juicy. However, the pommes aligot on the side was fantastic. Next time I'm definitely arriving hungry and trying the tasting menu! read more

Welp it's been a hot minute since I enjoyed a fancypants lunch at August... and the price for the 3 course prix fixe lunch is now $65 and it's totally worth it! My visiting friends and I made noon reservations and had the most lovely leisurely 2 1/2 hour lunch on Good Friday. They were great about accommodating our 1 vegetarian diner and made her an off menu item while still honoring the prix fixe price! And it was all so much food. I started with the black and blue gnocchi which sounds like it should work, truffles, blue cheese, crab and little fluffy potato yumminess? And it was amazing and honestly I was probably full at that point. I had the crawfish tagliatelle but the dish to eat was the snapper "bouillabaisse" in quotes because it wasn't soup. The pasta was good. The fish was stunning. As was my friend's veg option, mushroom pithivier. The friend who got the duck said it was the best version she's ever eaten. We split the 3 dessert options, ordering 2 of the cream puffs (which were the crowd favorite) but I also really liked blood orange creamsicle, the bitterness of the aperol sorbet was an unexpected note. And I liked the double cream cheese option; the apple butter made it sweeter than I expected but with still nice salty notes. Service was excellent; the mood was great. OH and I got the special rose French 75 twist... with cognac not gin because I'm a traditionalist that way. My friends all loved their cocktails too. I'll have to not wait another decade to go back. read more

Just okay. Overpriced forced tasting menus and four courses. Eeeeehhhh. Happy they let me add on, but ehhhhhh. Nah it's fine

After looking at reviews and craving a fine dining experience in New Orleans creole style) we decided to check out restaurant August. A beautifully appointed restaurant, in historic building that dates back to the early 1800s, it is elegant and includes a cozy bar for a drink before or after any meal. This is a reservation recommended location, although we were fortunate enough to get in fairly easily during a quiet time, early in the week, and early in the evening. We were pampered and made exceptionally welcome by the highly trained staff. Opened in the early 2000s, the restaurant has multiple recognitions by the James Beard organization and others in the food service world. The Executive Chef has changed hands and is now led by Corey Thomas, of the famous Commanders Palace and Shaya which received recognition by the James Beard organization during Chef Thomas tenure as sous chef. The menu offers à la cart options, as well as a chefs tasting menu that can be decided at the last minute if you are up for the challenge! Wine pairings are also available should you choose. We enjoyed an absolutely phenomenal tasting menu with wine pairings and could not have been happier! This restaurant team is laser focused on outstanding food, over the top service, and just an overall wonderful customer experience. Would not be surprised to see three stars at this location once the Michelin man finally comes to town. This can be a pricey endeavor, but definitely worth the treat! read more

By far one of the best meals and experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. We had a reservation and we were sat immediately. The host swapped our white napkins for black napkins as were were wearing dark colors (wonderful attention to detail). Our server had great energy but very professional at the same time. She was amazing! She shared her recommendations, pairings and most popular items. For the table we ordered the lemonfish crudo, black and bleu gnocchi, the tomato tart and the coal-roasted ibercio pork. All tasted amazing but my absolute favorite was the lemonfish crudo. So much flavor! My entree was the snapper and while it was hard to get the taste of each ingredient, it was still delicious! We skipped the sweets as we were too full. The portions are small but plenty! Will be back for the next time I am in town. read more

The bartender made me feel like a burden. She kept walking away and when I asked for advise she said it was my choice. I was new here wanted guidance from a Michelin stared restraint and she spent her time talking g to staff who were eating chips out of a bag. Not what I expected for a Michelin starred restraint. :(. Food was good not magic but solid. There food would stand up for Michelin. But staff does not. So sad and I hate writing bad reviews read more

Excellent! My wife and I got the tasting menu and it was fantastic. There were several fantastic bites but the A5 wagyu, spoon bread, and the cold oyster Rockefeller were standouts. Amazing dining experience. Great service, beautiful restaurant, I'm excited about going back! I ordered the tasting menu that starts with an amuse bouche and then goes through several seafood and meat options. It does come at a price, and there's an option for a wine pairing but I guarantee that whatever you choose you can't go wrong read more

I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for dinner in the city as Restaurant August consistently misses the mark. The service was decent, though not at the caliber matching the premium price of this restaurant. While the menu looks phenomenal, we were treated to undercooked shrimp--completely without color on one side--and unannounced replacement dishes when the kitchen ran out gnocchi (yet they had stock of pasta that was no where else on the menu?). Each dish was followed by 20 minutes of waiting for the next course. Several other tables were visibly frustrated with the pace of their meals. I hope we caught them on a bad night, but this restaurant did not match the caliber and missed expectations of a fine dining option. I would recommend you choose anywhere else for any occasion. read more

Eating here was a truly culinary experience. The restaurant has an old regalness to it with beautiful bouquets throughout the main dining room. We had several servers throughout our dinner service who all were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. We started off with an amuse bouche which were compliments of the chef and it was so tasty. I then had a truffle gnocchi for an appetizer which was good but not amazing. The two dishes that were exceptional though were my red fish and the ganache dessert. What a gem this place is. If you can splurge this is the place to do so! Jordan was our waiter and he was well poised throughout our dinner. We had the pork appetizer to start and it was delicious. I've not been a fan of Lima beans but these were delicious and wiped away any childhood trauma I had of them. I had the snapper and it was perfect. My husband had the lobster and is typically not a fan of any sauce on his food and he enjoyed it. We shared the chocolate mint dessert and it was exactly what I had been craving. I came here for my birthday dinner and we were all blown away! Firstly, the ambiance is high end but very cozy with brick exposed walls. They decorate the place with fresh florals, and the wait staff is impeccable. Next, the food was absolutely spectacular. We were so blown away by our appetizers and entrees that we ended up ordering every item on the dessert menu. I don't even have a favorite menu item because everything equally blew me away. I came to New Orleans this past December for two reasons, to see how the city celebrates the holidays, and to celebrate a birthday. For her birthday dinner, I chose August to go to. I'm glad I did. This place was upscale from head to toe. If the Michelin guide was in town, this place would at least get recommended. Starting with how beautiful the place is. This corner space in a large building had the internal décor of a fancy house. Complete with a giant staircase in the middle of the dining room, leading up to a mystery second floor. Elegant chandeliers and servers that re-folded your napkins for you when you used the restroom were the cherry on top of this very nice experience. So we looked at their tasting menu they offer, but two things held us back. Number one being that the tasting menu is fixed, doesn't offer either-or options, so we'd be both eating the exact same meal, no opportunity to share. Also, they were serving turtle soup at the time. I don't have anything against the very traditional dish. It's just not for us. So we went ala carte! I don't want this to get too wordy, so let's get through the entrée highlights. I had the (red snapper Pontchartrain) shrimp, lump crabmeat, wild mushrooms, sauce béarnaise. I also got to try the (dry-aged duck breast) morel mushrooms, blackberries, foie mousse. The duck was So good. Huge cuts of duck presented to you cooked side up, so the cook Has to be good on it, no excuses. And the cook was perfect. Lushous, tender duck, perfectly cooked mushrooms, and a nice, deep blackberry sauce really made this dish one of the better duck dishes I've had. Impressive. But my dish, the snapper, was king. I had many fish fished out of Lake Pontchartrain on this trip, but this night have been the best. Flakey, delicate, and topped with three of the plumpest shrimp you might ever see in your life. Mix in it with the sauce, and this dish will stick in my mind for a while. We had a couple of desserts that don't seem to be offered right now, but that's ok. I like seasonality of menus. But the desserts were good, also elegant, fun. I had a freaking pavlova. What is this, the British Baking Show? It was so good. Get the desserts here. Get two. Overall, this was the perfect birthday restaurant. Keep in mind, you'll be surrounded by people in like, blazers and stuff, but don't be intimidated. The wait staff is pretty chill, and so was the food. Come here. read more

Another outstanding culinary adventure at August. Our server, Lee, was delightful and clearly loves the work she does. Gabriel was bussing and was congenial and attentive. Truly, the whole staff works with such precision it's a sight to behold. The food, as always, was completely on point. I'm gluten-intolerant and there were so many amazing options for me. We did the Thanksgiving tasting menu. My husband and I passed our plates between us and he didn't even realize he was eating gluten-free, too. Everything was indulgent and delicate, fresh, inventive, and elegant. (The descriptions of each course from the team were almost as enjoyable as the food.) In short, the whole experience from the greeting at the front door through all our courses (I forgot to mention a delicate champagne cocktail.) was an experience we won't soon forget. read more

We received two separate recommendations from people living in New Orleans that said we needed to try August. It did not disappoint. We also happen to be there for restaurant week, so of course, we tried the restaurant week menu. Everything was amazing. Pros: I came here for my birthday dinner, and it was such an awesome experience. The restaurant was beautiful! It felt like a mansion with different rooms, giant windows, and a mystery upstairs that I wasn't to go up. Lol. Service was perfect. I like when service staff makes me feel like royalty, especially on my birthday. Food was killer. Perfectly cooked seafood, probably the best duck dish I've ever had, and lovely desserts, too. Cons: I like that they had a tasting menu, but I didn't like that it had no options. It was only one menu with no 'this or that' options. I think that needs to be changed for nowadays. Tips: Get any seafood they have. And get desserts. It's all good! read more

One of my colleagues recommended this restaurant after having eaten here. He is Italian and said that the food was the most authentic Italian food he had tasted in the US. He said that the Zeppoli tasted like the ones his grandmother used to make. This intrigued me. Consequently, I took the team there for dinner. As soon as we walked in, my colleague was warmly welcomed by the sommelier and one of the servers. We started the meal with the August Old Fashioned which was well made. I usually do not like Gnocchi because it is too doughy. My colleague told me that I would love the Gnocchi at August. I gave it a shot by ordering the gnocchi "black and blue" with black truffles, jumbo lump crab, and parmesan. I did not regret my choice. The Gnocchi was tender and not doughy at all. My main dish was dry-aged duck breast with morel mushrooms, white asparagus, fava beans, and foie mousse. It had a crispy skin with tender meat. My colleagues had the Gulf Fish Pontchartrain. To finish the meal, I had the Zeppolli and a glass of Amontillado. This one one of the best dining experiences that I have experienced. read more
