We had just finished up having drinks and appetizers across the street at Restaurant Revolution,…read morewhen a brass band paraded by in the pouring rain and ducked into this wine bar. We joined them in the courtyard, which had a giant canopy set up overhead protecting them (and us) from the pouring rain. It was such a fun, impromptu, New Orleans experience, dancing to the band and enjoying a wonderful glass of wine and champagne cocktail from the bar. They have a very extensive wine list, over 50 wines by the glass, many reasonably priced. It has an upscale, luxurious, yet comfortable vibe. It is small, so fills up quickly. Really wonderful time here on our first night of Jazzfest.

Patrick serves a wonderful traditional Sazerac. We stopped by after enjoying preservation hall jazz for a cocktail to relax. A second hidden gem, Patrick's is connected and has a interior entrance to a beautiful courtyard. You can sit and enjoy your drink, in the relaxing courtyard. We sat in the courtyard, looking up to see stars over our head. I'm always amazed that in the courtyard. It is quiet the noise of bourbon street and festivities in the streets are eliminated. Enjoy your drink, relax, and enjoy Patrick's excellent bar.

Rich, layered, and well-balanced with fresh elements that worked together on the plate. For entrées, we had a variety of cuts, including the Australian Wagyu, ribeye, butcher's cut, and lamb chops. The Wagyu stood out immediately. High quality, great sear, and finished tableside, which added to the overall experience without taking away from the food itself. Each steak was cooked precisely to temperature and full of flavor. The lamb chops paired with carrots and brussels were well executed and balanced. The sides complemented the meal well and did not feel like afterthoughts. You can also see their in-house dry aging setup, which speaks to the level of detail they put into their steak program. It shows in the final product. The drinks were solid across the board. The Old Fashioned and bourbon selections paired well with the meal and matched the food's quality. Service by Noelle was attentive and responsive throughout the night. Everything flowed well, and we were taken care of without feeling rushed or hovered over. This is not a casual dinner spot, but for a celebration or a night where you want a full experience, Doris Metropolitan absolutely delivers.

Not actually sure about the food or ambiance about this place because in retrospect, the attitude…read moreof the bartender who "served" us is all we can remember. It started the moment we walked in. Glancing at the hostess, asking "OK to sit at the bar?", getting a nod, sitting down. An experience we've done in hundreds of restaurants. (We had reservations for a table but often prefer the bar.) The bartender -- whom we believe was named Mike -- started off his interaction with new customers as follows. "Did you check with the hostess?" I nodded in the affirmative, apparently that wasn't enough. "Check with the hostess", he ordered. I got up, went over the hostess stand, and confirmed, this time so "Mike" could see, that it was OK for us to sit at a half-empty bar. (In retrospect, we should have gotten up and walked out immediately, but it was late and even in the Quarter most places were closing for dinner.) You see, Mike clearly didn't want to be working that night. He was rude, inattentive, and condescending. And not just to us, to everyone seated at the bar. Slow making drinks, slow asking for orders, seething contempt for his customers. One time we asked to see a drink menu to decide on a new drink, he said, and this is a direct quote, "Do you want to see it or do you want to review it?" Mike's behavior was clearly well-known to the staff, because another staff member, who was off-shift and next to us at the bar, witnessed this behavior and arranged for a free dessert on the house (classy move on her part). She confided in us that Mike's pretty much always like that, but that he's a buddy of the general manager so seemingly un-fireable. Well, here's hoping someone reads this and thinks the better of Doris Metropolitan, or at least sitting at the bar. Unless you think service you'd get in a Paris tourist trap cafe is appropriate for a high-end steakhouse, you're better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

We arrived sans reservation, but were whisked straight into the courtyard -- arguably the best seat in the house on a pleasant Louisiana evening. Between the soft night air and the glow of the courtyard, the atmosphere alone deserved applause. The cocktails arrived first and immediately set a dangerously high standard: beautifully crafted, perfectly balanced, and the kind of drinks that make you consider canceling your plans afterward. Fortunately, the food rose to the occasion. The edamame and roasted Brussels sprouts disappeared with alarming speed, and the Amelie Salad was a standout -- generously portioned, fresh, vibrant, and substantial enough to be an entrée or ideal for sharing if you're pretending to be civilized. A special nod to Liz, who elevated the entire experience with spot-on recommendations, warm hospitality, and the rare ability to be both attentive and effortlessly relaxed. In a city famous for memorable dining, this meal still managed to feel special -- equal parts elegant, welcoming, and unmistakably New Orleans.

The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.

Looking around, the place was so pretty and green, with a lot of natural lighting due to there being many windows and open doors. Once we sat our waiter came and once he heard it was our first time there, he instantly offered recommendations to us and gave us plenty of time to order. I ordered the Cubano sandwhich, crawfish beignets, and regular beignets. Everything was so good! The sandwhich came with fries as part of the order and they were crispy to perfection. The crawfish beignets are more like hush puppies though so keep that in mind! The regular beignets had a good flasky crust to them and were so pillowy. I would definitely come back to try their dinner menu!

I typically have to be in a legit French Quarter state of mind to opt for drinking or dining there,…read morebut being that it's often central to where my friends want to meet, I have my usual spots. I'll be choosing Effervescence (if it's open... limited hours, especially given that it closes at 4pm on Sundays), Peychaud's or its neighbor, the Will and the Way if I'm with beer drinkers (ie, my husband) or Patrick's Bar Vin. Latitude 29 if I'm yearning for a Pandan Painkiller. Spots where loud party people tend to avoid. I'm happy to add another spot to the list, Le Bouchon! Especially if I'm really in the need of peace and quiet. It's lovely in here, reminiscent of a European wine grocery with a pretty spot in the rear for sitting. It's so intimate and quiet, a peaceful reprieve from the hustle and bustle through the back windows where one looks out upon the French Market. The service is top notch, with a friendly chill bartender and a chef who pops out to make sure everything is OK. I met my friend here on a late Sunday afternoon and felt really welcome, without it being too overbearing as it may happen when a place is on the quieter side. It would be amazing if there were a single vegan option on the menu... even chips or salted nuts or taralli so that us plant based folks could stay longer and not drink wine on an empty stomach. I have two generous glasses of a perfect rosé. We appreciated the selection of wines by the glass. Bonus: you can also pick up a lovely bottle of wine (admittedly, I didn't get a chance to peruse the wall of wine) to take home!
