Got a bad vibe when i walked into this place at 850 and heard them rudely telling an older man they don't open until 9 and insisting that he wait outside in February weather when he was nicely asking to wait inside. As a coffee shop, why not open before 9? They always seem to be closed. Fresh baked yumminess- try the milk buns, you won't go back to wanting regular hamburger buns for your patties. The almond croissant like creation is heavenly and the tahini cookie makes me want to try my hand at making such a creation so I could eat it everyday. Excellent pastries and bread, no doubt. You get what you pay for, quality -wise. Except for when pay for what you don't get. The prices of the items are reflective of the quality ingredients. But not giving the customer all that they paid for is disappointing, considering things aren't cheap here. When it was not busy, and one employee was ringing up the order, and another was filling it, there seemed to have been a disconnect. An item was missing that was paid for. A paying customer shouldn't have to double-check the accuracy of an employee at any time, especially if their complete order was put in a box before they leave. Paying one employee inhibits a customer from watching the other employee who is filling the order at the same time. So, it's annoying and disappointing to find out at home that all that was paid for was not in the box. It's quite understandable if it is hectic, but this morning it was not. Customer service really is a key to getting people to return. It makes one now wary of paying a premium price for missing items again at Kingston Bread + Bar. I used to be a fan but I think today may be the start of a long break. I used to love their bread and still like it a lot. The sourdough is very good, their croissants are really fresh and reminiscent of authentic French ones. But today after buying a few different breads, I thought it was no longer worth the trip there and the cost. Their breads are still above the rest but it's too expensive and the quality and size=smaller of the breads have changed. I am grateful for lovely breads especially during the pandemic but now I am looking for another bakery that has good quality but it is more down to earth. read more

Fabulous! I am vegan and had their eggplant sandwich - AMBA Believer - and it was so delicious! I also had their Firestarter mocha and a Bloody Mary. The bread was chewy and perfect. I can't wait to eat their again! read more

Really neat spot with great bread, pastries, coffee, as well as a decent beer selection. The staff was super helpful, and the vibe inside was really cute. The Everything Bagel Scrump was incredible -- crispy, flavorful, savory but not overbearing. Quality cold brew, too. This place is 100% all hype, hard bagels and high prices. Really wanted to love this place but after my half a dozen $12 bagel and $8 loaf pre order my view of this place changed quickly. Just wanted to say it's not the price aspect of this place but the quality of product that you get for the price that you are paying. I was really excited about the bagels since they constantly post them on IG and they look delicious. After trying one I quickly realized that all they were is creative photography and angles to make them seem better than they actually are. The bagels were really small, hard, and tasteless which is why they pack them on with toppings. The loaf was ok, it had a decent crust and good sour dough notes but for 8 bucks you can go to the bakery section in Adam's and get a better product for half the cost along with a full selection of pastries, bagels, etc. I tried to reach out to the owners via IG since it seems like they are very active there just to voice my opinion but I was ignored and my comments were deleted. I'm sure I'm not the first one or the only one that will have this problem in the future. The best bread ever! Their delivery during the pandemic was literally a lifesaver. Their baguettes are an elixir and we buy in bulk and they freeze well. But don't stop there. I cannot say enough about bread and bar. Everything they make and everything they serve is far above my expectation. Something as simple as a cup of coffee and a lemon pistachio cookie becomes a feast for the senses. I love the enthusiasm of the staff. The olive bread on Thursday is my favorite. Bagels on the weekend are a treat Every time. This place is an amazing addition to uptown Kingston. They also serve a lot of the baked goods at Rough Draft bar and books a block away. read more

I'm giving it a 4 because the food was really good. I walked in (my first time there) and picked up a menu by the door. Several servers walked by me several times. Not a peep or acknowledgement. A group of 5 walked in and walked to the back of the restaurant. "Excuse me," I almost yelled at a server to be heard above the echoing noise. I shrugged like "What's the deal here?" "You order there and sit anywhere " Obviously those people had been before. I got a seat at the counter waiting for my friend. The young man behind the counter, despite a smile on his face, was downright rude. He couldn't even answer a simple question like, "What's the soup today?" And reacted like I gad my nerve thinking he might be expected to do anything besides fixing coffee or tea. He directed me to go read a chalk board at the other end of the restaurant. The restaurant is very noisy. The food was very good. The service...... what service?? Would I return? Not sure. At least if I did I would be prepared to be treated like I wasn't even there. read more

I've now visited several times and it's definitely my new favorite spot in town. Everything was fresh masterfully done. I love how frequently the menu changes - they always have new specials, and nice veg options. The morning bun is insanely good and a must try. We also had a delicious breakfast sandwich on homemade roll, a great variation of the the classic salmon and lox cream cheese bagel, and coffee was spot on. Love the atmosphere and great vibe, and a fun Instagram account to follow. Haven't been since they had beer available - but looks like quite a selection. Love this place. It's fantastic and the bakers have helped me with some tips and tricks on my own home experiments. It's also the only place to get Bianco Dinapoli Tomatos within an hour of kingston which is a staple in my cupboard. I've eaten way too many treats from this place this summer! Also to the person complaining about slicing bread, buy a knife. I'm appalled at the idea of pre-slicing a loaf a bread. I lecture my friends anytime I bake a loaf of bread around when and how to cut and how to store. Don't you have a knife? The Miyabi 9.5 inch bread knife is awesome. Get one of those, how can you buy artisan bread and not treat it with the best equipment? read more

This was our first time to Kingston Bread + Bar, we got a plethora of tasty treats and they were by far the best treats I've ever ingested. The stand out star was the cinnamon roll. I've never had a pastry that has made me want to be chopped up into little pieces and baked into the new pastry itself. Warning - the chai was a bit funky!!!! read more

Food was ok but not fantastic. The service was awful. We Purchased a lot of extra food to take home for others and tipped very well. The staff was not that friendly and threw the food on the table without a word. They never asked if we needed anything, checked on us, or made any attempt to be polite. The coffee is very good, the baked goods and sandwiches are fresh and tasty. The look of the cafe is airy and attractive. BUT, their serving systems are overly complicated and inefficient. Last week, Three of us got a coffee, soup and sandwich. This involved visits and ordering at two separate counters, no less than six visits to the table from servers. One soup was ice cold, they forgot to heat it. We had to pay at separate stations. There are too many high stools and not enough low chairs. Today, at an off hour we went in again - same deal. Only two tables with normal height chairs, both occupied by women with kids and my 5' tall wife again had to jump up onto a stool. We've been to Kingston Bread & Bar for pastries & coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and dinner. All excellent. It's an independent business, not Starbucks: maybe little quirk here and there & in great demand, especially on the weekends. This place is hyped up so much on Instagram, so was glad to give it a shot, but wasn't impressed. It has a cute vibe, but the experience disappointed. This is for food to go, you have to go to the back and the two women working there were so disinterested in their work. Ordered a zataar bagel with PB and J... no meat options, only roe and lox. Then, you can't pay for your coffee there, you have to go to the coffee bar and order separately. Just an odd setup, give me the coffee and food at once and let me pay there. Then, at the coffee bar there's no espresso or cappuccino machine. So, what is this place? The total for a bagel, a muffin, and two small coffees was around 18$. Oh, that bread!! I had a tuna salad sandwich; the tuna was very nice, but the bread was memorable!

We went with our family tonight and had a delicious dinner. Even our kids who are picky eaters loved the food! We especially liked the caponata and the fried chicken. The chickpeas were also delish! Since the beginning of social distancing and the closing of all unnecessary businesses, those that have been allowed to stay open have been struggling to reconfigure themselves to meet the demands for safety and for providing services to customers. We're fortunate to have Kingston Bread + Bar doing such a great job of providing our area with their delicious and beautiful breads and pastries and great stuff to eat with their bagels and breads such as different cream cheeses and smoked fish (the smoked trout salad was a surprise hit in our home). We've tried 4 different types of bread so far and each has been outstandingly delicious. I'm an experienced sourdough bread baker but it's so much easier to be able to buy bread that's as delicious as what I can make myself while supporting local business. Our 5 year old is not a bread crust fan but today, while enjoying a thick slice of Upstate Levain (with peanut butter), she exclaimed, "I like the crust!
