A very nice restaurant in the French quarter of New Orleans that we visited for dinner one night on a recent trip that I thought deserved a good review, 4.5 stars IMO. He had reservations, and I would definitely recommend them, because the place filled up quick, and this was on a Sunday night in May. The ambiance and look of the restaurant did a good job of straddling the line between elegant and casual, it isn't stuffy, but it's not overly offhanded either. The wait staff was excellent, as were the drinks, the bar staff knew what they were doing. We had an appetizer of the boudin boulettes with a pepper aioli, this might have been the tastiest part of the meal, these were amazing. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had a steak salad, the salad was good, but nothing out of the ordinary, the shrimp and grits was really good, I would recommend over the salad. The shrimp and grits came in a sort of spicy broth with a few veggies and some excellent fresh shrimp, I new twist on one of my favorites. Desert looked good, but alas we were too full. read more

How Kingfish isn't ranked among the top 10 restaurants in the city is a mystery; it's phenomenal. For brunch, we got the crème brûlée French toast, which was the best French toast any of us had ever had, the kingfish & grits and victory garden omelette were perfect, all topped off with bottomless mimosas. The experience was so great we went back for dinner a few days later. The red beans and rice with fried chicken was a terrific combo and the chicken dredge was outstanding, extremely flavorful. The catfish Huey was delicious and not too heavy, and the cochon du lait po boy was excellent, with a little kick but not too spicy for our youngest child. But the best was the bourbon pecan pie. I enjoyed my time here having HH drinks and bites prior to our dinner at a nearby restaurant. The vibe is an old-fashioned bar with bartenders in suspenders and white shirts. They were polite and attentive. They have several $7 cocktails to choose from and $4 local draft beers plus Blue Moon. I ordered a Sazerac, NOLA's signature drink. It tasted very close to an old fashioned just not too sweet. It was strong and tasty. We ordered crawfish bread, it has a cheesy sauce with artichoke and crawfish on top of toasted brioche bread. Pretty tasty to soak up the alcohol. It's a nice quiet place, the weather was great so the door was wide open to allow patrons to pour in. read more

We had a really great dinner here . Sometimes in the French Quarter you can fall prey to a tourist trap and have mediocre food but this was a good stop. They had a thirty minute wait so we opted for a bar seat which worked out well. We ordered the crab grilled cheese sandwich with fries on great hearty bread and delicious. We also had the blackened scallop with pasta dish. This dish has a perfect blend of spicy sweet. I ordered the chicken on a plate fried chicken with collard greens and twice baked potatoes. The chicken was actually crispy and delicious but boneless which I wasn't expecting. The collards were seasoned to perfection maybe a little heavy on the salt but still so good. The potato had some cheese and some scallions to complement. We rounded out the dish with cafe au lait mouse which was much like a tiramisu extra creamy and a caramel pecan pie ala mode. All in all this was a good dinner spot . Service was good and staff were accommodating. 159.90 all in for dinner for 3 and dessert for 2. read more

We needed a last minute dinner spot and this seemed to be the best option in the area at the time. The menu is posted outside and it looked diverse enough to satisfy the needs for a party of five. We asked how long the wait was and we were told we would be seated right away. Instead of being sat at a table, we were told to go to the bar and could get some drinks while the table is being prepared. We got a round of drinks at the bar and had to wait to close out the tab before we were sat at the table right behind us... which was already empty and clean when we walked in. So we shuffled from the bar to the table behind us. It took what seemed like forever to get service. Once the ball got rolling on ordering food, things were better and the food came out quick. Everyone's food was just "ok", not a disappointment and not great. Don't expect fast, great service here. And be prepared for a random "supplemental fee" at the end. read more

Went for happy hour and had a great time. We had the pork skin nachos and they were delicious. We also had the crawfish bread, boudin balls and crab cake. All of those were great. My drink was strong and full of flavor. Our server was friendly and checked on us several times. I didn't know how big the restaurant was until they walk us down the sidewalk to another entrance. This dining room was decorated nicely and is a great place to have dinner with a special person. I will visit again on my next trip to New Orleans. read more

We came to NOLA for a week. Business and leisure. It's been 20 years since our last visit. Looking for a dinner option, we stumbled across Kingfish. Really happy that we did! I can't say much for exploring the bar. I did have two local beers though. Small selection of local craft beers. To start, my wife had the roasted beet salad. Red beets only. Would've likely been better if there was a mix with golden beets, but that's just me. The vinaigrette was a perfect dressing for the beets and greens. I ordered the duck and andouille gumbo. Great flavor yet could've used more duck. For the entree, my wife got the crab cake served over a corn maque choux. A great cake! Plenty of lump crab and fried to perfection. I like spicy and for me the maque was lacking there. However, my wife does not do the spicy that I do and she said it was perfect for her. I got the seafood au gratin. Shrimp, crawfish and crab in a bechemel with plenty of cheese. Served with toast points. At first I thought it was too small to be an entree. Then I dove in! Very rich and heavy and satisfying. The artichoke hearts mixed in broke up the heaviness rather nicely. It was more than enough food. We did not order a dessert. Oh and I neglected to mention the excellent service! This is the type of server that you always hope to get. Polite, helpful with suggestions, excellent at his work and just a genuinely decent guy. If we lived here, Kingfish would be a regular stop. A group of friends and I stopped at Kingfish for one last quick bite before our flight left that night. The location is perfect, right near Jackson square. The ambiance was also very nice and upscale. I decided to go with the fried green tomatoes with shrimp. They were absolutely amazing! We came in for Christmas dinner and while the meal wasn't knock-out-of-the-park in terms of service or food quality, it was still a decent meal and we had an okay experience. If I could, I'd rank this spot 3.5/5, but 3/5 is too low so 4 will do. Our server was super friendly and kind, but she also seemed a little inexperienced so a lot of our questions seemed to go over her head. She was nice enough though so this wasn't a huge con or anything. The menu was a little too small for our liking - not a huge selection and nothing really stood out to us in terms of entrees. Their drink selection wasn't too bad though - I enjoyed my margarita a lot! The appetizers though were really delicious I think - the crawfish bread was really tasty and I loved how well-made everything was in terms of texture and flavor. The tomatoes were great as well - I would definitely get both again! The blackened fish entree I got was honestly a little disappointing. The fish was very dry and flavorless, but the sweet potatoes were pretty good! The dessert I thought was great overall - I'm a sucker for anything brulee style. Overall, I thought our meal was okay. I love dive bars, but every once in a while, I like to class it up and go to fancy bars, especially when we're traveling. Kingfish is a fancy bar, and it was fantastic. Named after the infamous politician, Huey Long, Kingfish had some of the best cocktails on our recent trip. We were there early, so we had amazing service. Our bartender was spectacular! I had a couple of really good vodka sodas. My wife had a couple of hurricanes. My daughter had a couple of very refreshing fancy drinks. A good time was had by all! Our appetizers, crab cakes and crawfish flatbread, were amazing! Our drinks were great, and our meals were outstanding! And no, I didn't eat all of eat! Due to large quantities of items ordered, I didn't take any pictures. However, the Fried Green Tomatoes with the Gulf Shrimp and the Blue Crab Grill Cheese was the HIT! Definitely ordered it. Another note - the Blacken Gulf Fish ( ask for swordfish) was season well the flavor balance was the twice baked potato and the fresh veggies. Lainey the manager made sure we were comfortable at the bar and had everything we needed. We were celebrating a birthday and they hooked us up. The patrons at the bar were also extremely friendly and welcoming. The food was perfectly done - we had the Kingfish and grits as well as the Jambalaya risotto.
