    gumbo

Tucked around the corner from the heart of the quarter, Sylvain is a small but mighty bar/restaurant. With a gorgeous outdoor space tucked away from the bustle of the quarter, the ambiance does not disappoint. I had the gumbo with the cauliflower ceasar, which was unique and delicious. My family member had the seasonal fish which they thoroughly enjoyed. We also had drinks which were tasty and strong. Occasionally, it would get a little loud in the restaurant near the bar, but nothing that should deter you from trying this place out. Service was good as well! Definitely a fun and delicious experience near the quarter. Would recommend!

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and we got lucky enough to get a reservation in a table outside. The patio is very serene. Our dinner was the burgers, mushrooms with grits and the fish of the day. All delicious and good portions of fries. Our server was attentive .

Sylvain was the perfect way to end our last night in New Orleans! The ambiance of this place was surreal, like you walked into a hidden oasis in a jungle. The patio was tucked away and the perfect place to put a party of 7 with no reservation! They were so nice and accommodating it was refreshing after a long and busy weekend. Probably the best service we experienced throughout the entire 5 days in New Orleans. The food was good - nothing overly outstanding but solid quality food! Definitely recommend this spot if you are looking for a nice (and romantic) dinner spot with great service.

We came without a reservation, and all the tables were taken. Luckily, we were seated soon at the bar. They have a nice outdoor area. However, it was closed due to the rain. The atmosphere was great! The bartenders were welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered Blackened King Trumpet Mushroom (mine) and Pappardelle Bolognese. Both were delicious! My favorite part of my dish was the mushrooms - they were well-seasoned and tender.

The best espresso martinis!! We stopped by Sylvain after dinner because our waitress recommended their espresso martinis and she was correct! Sylvain is a very charming restaurant with a beautiful courtyard. The bartenders were super friendly. Highly recommend!

Service = exceptional. Drinks = fantastic. Food = delicious. Best fried chicken I've ever had. Cocktails were unique and well balanced. Tim + the crew held it down with ease and excellence. Everything you hope for when you pull up to dine solo at the bar. This place knocks hospitality and upscale casual dining out of the park. This will certainly be my top recommendation to anyone visiting NOLA.

Delicious food! The cornbread was a great starter. My cousin who is a local New Orleanian said it was kind of dry. She has high standards for corn bread. I liked it and didn't notice it was dry. I ordered the short rib for my main dish and it melted in my mouth. I loved the pureed sweet potato that came with it. The ambiance is laid back yet high end. I wore a tee shirt and shorts and I fit right in. You could also get dressed up and have a nice date night as well. There's a garden but it seems to get booked quickly so maybe call ahead. See you around, LightBeings.

The cocktails here are spectacular! The spicy crab dumplings were (we also ordered the cauliflower which was just okay but I was trying to be more intentional about eating slightly healthier this trip lol) The two cocktails I had were so good! I wanted to try a third but the service was a bit slow so didn't have time. The vibe was nice but fun though, and I liked the "too dark too loud" shirts

The food was absolutely amazing!!! We had the Market Place salad, the cornbread, fried zucchini, and the cauliflower cesar as starters. They were all delicious but the cauliflower cesar was a dream! You have to try that. Never ever in my life I could have imagined cauliflower be so tasty! The bass was super crispy and delightful. Service was so friendly and welcoming. We sat outside which I found nicer than inside. It was not too hot and there were fans. Love it and will be back!

I recommend making a reservation. THe restaurant is charming. Though not very large. Food was fabulous. Service was lovely. Everything tasted fantastic. A block away from Jackson Squate. Great location.

The presentation of the food came was amazing. We ordered the linguine and added meatballs, which was well worth it. We also ordered the shrimp & grits, which included Brussels sprouts. Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. I always appreciate the staff's efforts by making simply making eye contact and smiling (which they did). Seems trivial but I think those small things says a lot about a business. The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

We shared 5 small plates - the crawfish bread - crawfish inside a crispy, flaky croissant like bread - OMG deliciousness. Then the tufa crudo - so fresh and flavorful, the crab tartlets - fine, but not as good as the other dishes; excellent salad, and the broccolini in a housemade horseradish goat cheese sauce - wow; one of the best broccolini dishes we have had. We weren't super hungry so we split a bunch of lighter bites and grabbed a handful of cocktails as well. Our favorites of the night were the crab tartlettes and the savory calas with snapper pastrami. The tuno crudo had fresh fish but it felt a bit overwhelmed by the other flavors, which were kind of one-note and heavy. The bread that came with it was overtoasted, but the foie gras parfait was excellent. We ended the night with the grapefruit sesame panna cotta. The flavors were surprising but they worked really well together. Would definitely come back for cocktails and light bites the next time we're in the city!

While the Sazerac wasn't invented here, this is arguably its most iconic home, a place where New Orleans cocktail history comes to life. I would use this version as your gold standard when dining out in New Orleans and looking for a perfect Sazerac. We enjoyed watching bartender Rachel craft each drink. Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better.
