It's about time I reviewed them! My number one dish goes to the minced pork rice- it's a pretty simple dish, but it's sooo good here for some reason. I've ordered this dish at other Taiwanese restaurants and nothing compares to the one at A&J- the pork is always SO flavorful, never dry and enough to coat all the rice, the egg is perfection, and all the little garnishes compliment the dish so well. It's also just as amazing takeout which I always appreciate. Other go-tos are the spicy beef noodle soup- the beef in it is always so tender and I love getting the thick noodle option because of the rough texture it adds. Beef roll and pan fried dumplings are always a good option for sharing. Have tried a lot of things on their menu and nothing so far has disappointed!

This has long been our go-to for Taiwanese comfort food, and while the flavors weren't always 100% authentic, they hit the spot. However, our recent visits have been disappointing. The restaurant has become incredibly "penny-pinching" with their service. I was recently told there would be a $1 charge just for a sprinkle of scallions and another $1 for a small side of clear broth for my dry noodles--requests that were never an issue before. Furthermore, when we ordered extra noodles for my son's beef noodle soup, the original portion seemed intentionally smaller, defeating the purpose of paying for the add-on. Between the degraded service and the "nickel-and-diming" atmosphere, it is no longer worth the 30-minute drive. The vibe has changed, and the pleasure of dining here is gone.

Southeast Asian Seafood Noodles Soup: very good, with a hint of basil, lime, and some chili pepper. Several types of xiao long bao: good. Definitely a must return since everything was delicious. They don't have many table to seat large parties (3+) they mostly have bar seating and the booth seating is pretty tightly packed so just a heads up that if you have a larger party you might need to wait longer. Luckily I got sat in their few middle tables that were spacious. I was able to order quickly and the workers are nice and gave me recommendations. Passion fruit green tea and this was definitely my favorite thing I ordered that day the drink was so light, refreshing, flavorful, but not too sweet the passion fruit seeds being in the drink was annoying though. (4/5) Spicy XLB they came out quick but I wished they were hotter they were just warm but delicious flavor and filling sadly was not spicy though no kick no heat at all. (3/5) Beef rolls nice and crispy lots of scallions and the cucumbers added a nice fresh aspect and crunch but needed more sauce. (3/5) Pan fried dumplings took the longest to come out were crispy but not that flavorful again very filling though. (2/5) Golden prime beef noodle soup I'm sorry but this was just not for my taste at all I can't even describe what flavor the soup was something I have never had before very unique. The noodles were nice and chewy but again I'm expecting soup to be hot but it just came out warm. (1/5) They had some sauce and chili oil on the table and I made a mix but it did not help add flavor to any of the items. I ordered too much and the leftover beef rolls and pan fried dumplings reheated well in the air fryer.

There were a few featured items that seemed to be what most people were ordering. I went with the flow and ordered one of the top items, the Ma Hu Beef Noodles. They were definitely interesting, as the flavor profile wasn't something I had experienced before. I'm no noodle connoisseur, but it was easy to tell they were fresh. They had that lighter, slightly chewy texture that stands out compared to the usual. On a random weekday they had a good crowd for lunch, mostly office types from the surrounding buildings. It wasn't hard to get a table, but the food did take a bit longer than expected to come out. Pricewise you aren't looking at a bargain, but it's not unreasonable. I imagine parking might be difficult if it is more crowded as there are a limited number of spots in the parking lot and it has a funky one-way design. Overall this is a decent lunch spot if you're nearby and something different from the norm. Four solid stars.

We came for early dinner and the place was pretty empty so I was able to get a full video clip of the restaurant. We ordered our usual beef rolls, scallion pancakes, and beef noodles. The beef noodles with eggs was the first dish to show up. It's slightly salty for my taste, otherwise it's decent. The scallion pancakes were very layered, probably one of the best looking ones we've ordered. The beef rolls were also one of the nicest presentations I've seen. They were perfectly wrapped and not a single green onions or cilantro fell off. Service was excellent. Granted there was only one wait staff but he was very attentive and observant. I saw a black dot on my plate, he immediately went to get a new plate for me without me asking. He constantly came to check on us and add more water. Overall, it was OK. It does have a huge variety of selection. Next time I would like to try more dishes and maybe skewers too.

You can tell this place has a strong base of regulars too, I saw a mix of friend groups and families casually walking in like it's their go-to spot. We ordered the cold noodles combo with jokbal (pork hock) for $30.95. Portion wise, it's SOLID for two people. The cold noodles were refreshing and really hit the spot, especially if you like that clean, slightly tangy flavor. The jokbal was very decent. Not bad, but if you've had it in Korea, you'll notice it doesn't quite hit the same level still totally "usable," just not standout. Value, this is where they win. We got full off just one combo, which is rare these days. Plus, all the usual Korean side dishes are complimentary, and they also served a warm bone broth at no extra cost. I've honestly never had that offered like this before, and it made the whole meal feel extra comforting and homey. Small detail, but I also appreciated that the table was already fully set up with bowls, utensils, and water which makes everything efficient. Overall, really solid experience. It actually gave me a bit of that Seoul nostalgia, which is hard to replicate. Definitely coming back to try more dishes.

(Pretty sure it's just the owner) who was very friendly, but the other staff had a huge attitude, the girl who dropped off our side dishes dug her hands into the dishes to grab two at a time which was super unsanitary. She threw the last side dish on our table while she was walking away too. I wanted to be optimistic about the food even though the staff gave a terrible first impression. We ordered two soups. They were both super bland. My partner and I kept debating whether or not to ask for more salt because of the lack of seasoning in both of our meals. Even the side dishes were lacking flavor and looked like they were sitting out for a long time. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kind lady (probably owner) of the restaurant. Everything else was a huge let down. I wanted to like the food here because there's a lot of good Korean restaurants in Irvine, and this could've been one of them but sadly it's not worth coming back.
