Here's what we got: * sliced pork and vegetable soup * braised bean curd with vegetables * peking duck * (my favorite) * Braised Beef with Ginger and Onion * Cantonese style ginger lobster * Shrimp Mango Sautée Dimsum: * Siu Mai w/ Minced Pork * Pot Stickers * Shrimp Noodle Roll Service was excellent! Our server was friendly and enthusiastic as she brought dish after dish, never leaving us short of tea or napkins. She even gave us extra dessert as my father and I really liked it. There's a handful of parking spots outside, not much though. Great for family and friends, lots of seating inside. Good for groups of 2-8. This is one of the most affordable Chinese restaurants I've found, it's super affordable and for 7 people, our bill came to about $250. read more

Alright Chinese resturant close to Sage. Quality of food is alright, but nothing to write home about. We ordered to combo which had 3-4 dishes, surprisingly our favorite was the eggplant with fish which was a very saucy dish which really went well with the rice. read more

It seems a bit difficult to find a dim sum place in Waterloo, but this was the first place that showed up after a quick search, and it was within walking distance. Besides dim sum, it is also a seafood restaurant. Overall, the dim sum was alright, since I'm not too picky and expectations weren't high. However, it was clear the food was probably microwaved. In particular, the shrimp dumplings weren't great, and the custard buns were opened up (shouldn't they be closed buns?). I thought the chicken feet were good and the congee was pretty good as well, so it's a bit dish dependent. read more

ok. So, I've been at King Tin's before when they used to be on King St. I didn't even realize they had moved instead of completely closing down and I'm so glad I found them. Compared to before, their food at this new location is better than what they had years ago. I am a fan! i took a few friends to try this out since it's been eons and boy was I surprised. We were seated fairly quickly and given the menus and a small sheet of paper to write down the order. We were served tea extremely quickly as well. So at a first glance it's looking like a shady chinese place because there's layers of table cloth on a table. This just means it's authentic in my eyes. Pan fried Dumplings - these were delicious and flavourful. 6 comes in a dish with a little sauce of red vinegar. Sweet and Sour pork - platter of fried pork. Tender, juicy, flavourful. I was mildly surprised since this is a dish I typically stay away from but with a bowl of rice, this was good. Cantonese Fried Chicken - ordered a half chicken and it came with a handful of shrimp crackers. Thin, crispy skin and juicy chicken. It's not the type of chicken that's been breaded and drenched. It's just a marinated chicken that's dunked in oil but oh so good! Cantonese Fried noodles - calamari was tender. Shrimp was large. Chicken pieces, char siu, gai lan, all layered with sauce on top of crispy chow mein. They did this really well too! Ordered the king oyster mushrooms with bok choy. I think the mushrooms may have gone bad. I couldn't tell if it was the mushroom or if they had added a bit of vinegar to it, but it was slightly sour. However, the veg was great and the sauce on top was very good. Overall, i thought this was a good reintroduction to King Tin. Cantonese cooking at its finest in the KW area. Not overly salted, not overly soy sauce drenched. They also finished the meal with red bean soup dessert. A little overly sweet but hey, dessert is dessert. read more

Wanted to try this restaurant out as it seemed to be the only place that did served the deep fried taro ball in the area. The quality of food is very poor. Ordered dimsum through selflane (their online platform) on a Sunday morning for pick up at 11:30. We got to the restaurant by 11:28, and was told our order would not be ready for another 20-30mins because they were just waiting for the deep fired oysters (you would think that the order should be ready at the pick up time that you selected on the online platform). We left the restaurant at about 11:56 and found a nice spot close by to have our picnic. To my surprise, half the dimsum dishes had to be thrown out because it went bad - the taste of the dimsum dishes was very, very sour... this included the hargow, which was basically cold, hard and sour by the time we had it, the steamed chicken feet (which does not taste like your typical Chinese steamed chicken feet) - this was discoloured, almost black, very dry, and tasted like they used red vinegar?! And lastly the deep fried taro ball, the pork filling had no flavour, and tasted like the pork they used went bad. I would also not recommend the deep fried oysters, the overall dish was so small, it was not worth it at all... Overall, my experience at this restaurant was very poor, I would likely not visit this place again as there are much better restaurants that serve dimsum. Dim Sum was poor, mostly microwave food, bun was hard and dry, typical microwave. Deep fried food were most likely toasted or re-fried. I have had dinner there, they are fine. Also fried noodles are fine as well. Even when I make microwave food, it is better than what they provide. Very disappointed dim sum. read more

Disclaimer: This review is solely based on King Tin's lunch buffet that runs only from Monday to Friday- I haven't had their regular a la carte menu stuff or dim sum. Their lunch buffet is really great for the price. $9.50 for an all-you-can-eat meal means you don't have to feel guilty about not eating until you feel uncomfortable, and this makes for a much more pleasant buffet experience. :-) The quality of the food is also on par with typical Chinese food you'd find in Waterloo. Selection isn't crazy, but it's enough. There are both americanized and traditional Chinese food options, with items like sweet and sour chicken, beef ho fun, chow mein, eggplant, etc. They also had a few dim sum items in the mix, which was nice. My only complaint in regards to food would be that there weren't that many non-meat dishes. Gotta look out for my vegetarian/vegan sisters. Service was minimal, but that's standard at buffet places. They seated us when we entered, brought us water/tea, and took care of us at the register when we went up to pay at the end. I would definitely go back again if I ever needed a quick-fix for a large quantity of Chinese food (which is almost always). read more

Can't beat the value of this place! I came here for their lunch buffets which had a pretty large selection of foods and it was pretty cheap (I think it was $10 per meal). It's probably on par with other Chinese restaurants in Waterloo but still doesn't compare to Markham / GTA Chinese food. The buffet usually isn't too packed, so they don't seem to run out of things and feels pretty relaxed. I also came here for dim sum, which is even harder to find in Waterloo, so I think this was the one and only time I've had dim sum in Waterloo. They have everything you find in your standard dim sum and it was great because dim sum is a meal I love no matter where I'm eating it. I think it was reasonably priced as well, ending up around $15 per person. I'd recommend this place as a place to try out in Waterloo. But for an authentic and better experience, I'd definitely recommend people to visit Markham for great Chinese food. read more

This restaurant was really empty when we went but at 4:30 PM on a Monday night, what can you expect. The service was really nice but they do ask you to write down the dishes your want on a piece of paper and I thought that was funny. We ordered the sizzling beef plate (trying my best to translate the dishes from Chinese to English) and that was by far my favorite dish. The beef was really soft and easy to chew and they had a really nice sweet and sour/bbq sauce on it that tasted great with rice. We also ordered the pickled pork which was a little bit over seasoned so if you do order it, eat it with a lot of rice! Also, keep in mind that the rice is either $7 for a medium bowl or $9 for a large. Best part, they give you a complimentary soup to start your meal and a sweet tapioca soup to end your meal so it was really nice! Would love to come here again. read more

Great authentic Chinese food in a nice new looking spot in a yet to be complete building one street over from it's old location on King. The sign said since 1983 I think so this place has been around for a long time and it obviously knows how to do Chinese food. I had the lemon chicken, a mushroom veggie dish, fried mixed seafood and a bean curd with crab sauce. A few dishes didn't seem that hot despite the restaurant being quite empty, and compared to meals at the old location on king everything seemed a step down. The old location was definitely a 5 star dining experience but i'm not sure if the chef had a day off when I was there. It's still a great restaurant but may be a disappointment to yelpers who remember the food at the old location. read more

I've been going to King Tin for more than 30 years and it's always been a good dining experience - until now. This is at their new location. Very disappointed. We used to come here all the time, when I found out they moved and we're opening up a new location I was extremely excited! Been here twice now, the first time was alright but not great. The waiter ended up spilling a couple plates of food, one was mine the other was someone else's. The second time was today... I order the spicy salt oyster (crispy fried oyster) when it came to the table it was far from crispy, completely waterlogged and mushy. I pointed it out to the waitress and she agreed it did not look the way it should and brought it back into the kitchen. We were brought out another order of the same, however, it was the same plate that they brought back just re plated and possibly refried, it looked wetter and they had put more topping on it. The owner came out to ask if it was better, I told her the problem and she explained that it was not the cook it was the quality of the oyster.... So she told me that the oyster quality is not good. My question is ; why are you serving bad oysters? I asked for the dish to be taken off the bill and they did not take the oysters (that I did not even eat because they were bad) Off the bill. They got me twice, I will not be going back ever again. Not even a chance. I hope that you don't make the same mistake that I did. read more

The lunch buffet is a steal! For only $9.50, there is a fair amount of food to choose from. By eating one plate, you would have already had your money's worth! But of course you can't just stop at one plate, it's a buffet! They have various dimsum options which they change up (e.g. BBQ bun, siu mai, sticky rice), curry noodles, sweet and sour pork, beef fried rice noodle, chicken and mixed vegetables, beef in black bean sauce, eggplant, hot and sour soup, and more. The food is ok, especially for the price, but the service is not the best. First time I went it took forever to get seated. In fact, I had to find the waiter and ASK to get seated. They also apparently don't have enough tea cups because when I asked for tea the waitress said they don't have enough cups. The food moves pretty slowly around the room, but some waiters are super nice that if what you want isn't on the tray they go to the back to grab it for you. I have been here multiple times and every time I have had a bad experience. The lunch buffet is a good price, but thats the only thing good about it. Everything is always mushy/soggy and overcooked. We also had to wait a while for many of the buffet dishes to be refilled (and considering theres only about 10 buffet options, having 3 of them sit empty isnt ideal). The dishes are ok (nothing authentic at all, mostly just overly sweet, yet bland sauces on a variety of meats). The dim sum dishes were soggy and bland. The service is also pretty much non-existent. We were satisfied by its portion, flavour, and speed to get the food onto the table. Overall, food, service, and price were great. Honestly have been going to this place for many years now and I have never had huge complaints! Obviously the restaurant waiters are a bunch of uni students walking around like zombies and missing orders, but what do you expect from a district filled with so many young adult students looking for work. I have only ever gone here for Dim Sum as the actual food later in the evening is not as interesting. Never have I ever gotten food poisoning or gotten sick from the food! I find their dim sum very tasty with a wide variety of food choices. The new place is much more sleek but I do miss the old building. You'll normally have to ask to get a seat because again the waitresses are pretty clueless but it's whatever. Also make sure to take initiative on getting your table cleaned, and check on your drinks if they haven't arrived for a while. Just see it as a tasty place where you get delicious food to eat, but have to make sure that the conditions you want to eat the food in are right for you, don't let the carelessness of the students get to you read more
