We were there for a Sunday brunch. Besides having not much alternatives for gluten free items the taste of food we ordered wasn't great. As I write this Philly steak my boyfriend ordered is sitting in his stomach. I ordered liver with onions with beets and collards as sides. Both sides seemed to come directly from can. Nothing special about them. The liver had a lot of vein in it, which made it difficult to cut. The onions were burnt but delicious. However, there wasn't enough onions to eat the bland liver. The place looked ran down. I understand some people prefer that, however I am not one of them. Luckily, this is the last time we will ever visit this establishment. The empty parking lot should have given us the clue but my boyfriend wanted to try this place as his son recommended this diner. I have been coming here for years. They have the BEST pancakes in the 757. And their fried sway fish with cheese grits and home fries is my go to meal. I've brought several people here and they've all enjoyed it. I've only had a bad meal once in all the times I've gone there and I assumed the original cook was on vacation. Bad service today and all the food came out burnt. Food we ordered they no longer have available. The server had no idea what was available. No daily soup. No soup. Burnt pancakes, burnt shrimp, etc. I'm sad to say I will not be coming back after being a patron for 12 years. The service was awful. read more

I usually have dealings with Lance and he is by far one of the nicest people I've come across always polite and just over all pleasant & you don't come across that a lot anymore in these days & time. Great food and service. This is like a classic breakfast/lunch spot. This is not a chain restaurant like every other place in Hampton roads. So don't expect it to be... Had the gravy over biscuits with eggs and home fries. Delicious and tastes like home cooked meal from my grandma. I was surprised at the amazing taste. Waitresses are very nice. So this place reminds me of my hometown diner that has all the household breakfast and lunch plates that we all love so much and can relate to. The diner used to be an old gas station back in the day, so it's a neat environment. The owner is down to earth and has a great sense of service and is passionate about it to the fullest. He really has a great staff that has been with him for along time and you can tell that by when you sit there and watch the interaction between the customers and the staff. Read the reviews and took my sis in law and brother in law here last week. They aren't chain restaurant fans & I love finding places to eat with them. They both had the basic 2 egg, potato breakfasts. They couldn't stop talking about how good the potatoes were! I had the half order or french toast which was dandy. My little niece helped her daddy finish off the grits and pancake. All in all it was a great little dive breakfast with AWESOME service. This is a great little diner. Went on a Sunday 1000 and not very busy and very friendly hostess and others that worked there. Reasonable time to get food. I will try to add a picture of my 2 eggs over easy, home fries, corned beef hash and English muffin. It was delicious! We asked that the English muffins were grilled on the grill (great idea and great taste) and if I got again i would add the onions to the home fries for an extra .50. My wife got an omelet and the grits instead of home fries and they were also great. The omelet was stuffed. We will be back. read more

They get an extra star for friendliness. A man sitting down greeted me as soon as I walked in and told me someone would be right with me. I'm guessing he was an owner. He was sitting down enjoying coffee with 2 other people. This place is definitely a local hang out with an older crowd. It is very, very small inside. Maybe seats 30-40 if that. A man came out of the back while I was waiting and all I thought was, I pray he isn't the cook. He had on a sweatshirt and jeans that didn't look like it should be around food. He did speak when he came out. Like I said everyone was very friendly. The lady who rang me out was kind as well. The food however was not up to par with the $8.10 that I paid. All I got were 2 eggs, bacon, home fries with onions and toast. The toast was stale, the eggs tasted like normal eggs, the bacon was fried good, the potatoes were fresh cut potatoes with grilled onions. I like that they were fresh potatoes but they had no flavor or seasoning. The price is just way too high for the quality of food. But I won't be back.
