I looked up breakfast near me and saw the spot. They had a special online so I ordered the buy one get one monte cristo and chose to pick it up. When you arrive, there's a big sign outside, saying Momo's but other than that it looks like an old Mexican restaurant which adds to its uniqueness. The staff are absolutely wonderful and super friendly. My food was ready immediately and delicious hot and even came with a bag of chips. I really enjoyed walking around the store and seeing all the unique trinkets gifts local art, and jewelry there's even coffee scrubs and specialty food items. I thought it was a super cute ideal to put random salt and pepper shakers on the tables which were already unique themselves. I love the vibes here. Looking forward to restaurant week. Let's set some expectations: this isn't the type of spot that's hustling every morning. It's a hole in the wall local spot where you order at the register and pump your coffee from a thermos pot. Not fancy. But the vibes! You can purchase local art there- paintings, jewelry, hand made clothes and toys. Fresh deserts, made in house. Smaller breakfast selection with a couple of specials and a bit wider lunch menu. No mimosas, so come prepared. As you might expect at a place like this the food isn't fancy, not pricey and home-made delicious. The ladies behind the counter were extremely sweet. We called a head of time to see what kind of drinks they offered as there was nothing on the menu stating that they had any. I called and a woman answered and she was very polite. It wasn't a lot of options for drinks and I wanted some kind of flavoring with my coffee and she only mentioned that they had chocolate and Caramel. I'm assuming that's more of a syrup for desserts instead of coffee. So we opted to purchase our drinks somewhere else. We walked in and the cook was sitting in one of the chairs. He immediately greeted us and was very friendly the whole time, even checking on us after we got our meals. I ordered the grilled ham, Brie and apple sandwich with their pasta salad and my partner ordered the turkey sandwich with the pasta salad too. We were very happy with the sandwiches but even more so for the pasta salad. It was very flavorful but I think the ratio would've been better with thicker pasta as it came with angel hair. The space is very eclectic with a corner of the space for kids. We were the only ones in here and I think if the outside looked more inviting people would come in. The area gets a lot of traffic so I'm surprised it wasn't busy. read more

Please avoid this establishment. The people make all the difference in whom you patronize, and in my experience they were dismissive and discriminatory: I was forced to have to buy a soda just to use the restroom, and I felt targeted--especially with a child in my hand in a tight. I can't understand much of this place. Its eclectic nature is mixed with an unrefined sense of scattered cafeteria fridges, jewelry and other items for sale, and foodie awards hidden behind some of the nonfood goods. The hand painted tables may appeal to some, but the journey went south after that. Those food awards were from about 2016 and more recent, but that doesn't fit the 28 reviews, nor the subpar food. I had a Monte Cristo sandwich. The bread was just shy of burned, but the meat inside was cold, and the egg batter was less than I've usually found on an MC. The sodas were canned, and not readily available. The macaroni salad, had an odd tinge of green which I hoped was some ingredient, and I didn't get sick, but I didn't taste any curry, pickle, or other item that would explain it. The kicker is that one of the people pictured on the awards, was the person in the kitchen. Yeah, I'm not clear on what's going on here... but I'm definitely not returning. I'm so thankful I didn't get sick on the green macaroni salad that I'm restoring one star to my review. read more

I ordered a Breakfast monte cristo from here. It was just ok. Didn't expect the sandwich to be too hot to hold. I had to wait for it to cool down a bit before I bit into it. Also came with a side of raspberry jelly. They don't have a "sides" menu so I asked for a side of hash browns. The portion was so small and not edible. Not worth 3 dollars. First bite tasted so burnt that it left an oily char taste in my mouth. The coffee was ok. It helped get rid of aftertaste from the hash browns. read more

I went here one day to grab a quick salad as walked away with some pretty almond glazed shortbread cookies too. The field greens salad was great! It comes with spring mix lettuce, dried cranberries, onions, feta, avocado, almonds, a side of chicken salad, and the most delicious onion vinaigrette. I think it's homemade. The chicken salad has dill, which was a nice complement to the salad. The lady who took my order was Momo's mom. She was very pleasant. They also sell pastries and jewelry. I came with about a group of 7 friends and the lady at the register was a bit abrasive but overall she did her job just fine. The food was okay, however, one of my friends wanted to get a piece of cheesecake and the cheesecake had mold on it. When my friend returned it they got their money back and the lady at the register claimed that the older lady that cooked in the back "sometimes forgets to pull the older items off the shelf". I discovered this cafe on a morning walk. It's right next to he Bass Pro Shop. I had the fried flounder on hoagie with a side of pasta salad and it was so fresh and delicious! It as served with bread and butter pickles on the side. My favorite! For dessert I had oatmeal cookie filled with icing that was far superior to the Little Debbie oatmeal cream sandwiches. I thought I would explore new locations for lunch, but this one didn't impress. First impressions of the outside are not great. It looks like it used to be a Taco Bell, maybe?? I thought it was closed but I took a chance, and the door was not locked. It took a while for anyone to realize I was there which gave me a chance to look around. There are bits of baked goods everywhere and it kind of looked like a week-old bake sale. I previewed the menu online and nothing on the current, in-house menu was the same. I wanted fried green tomatoes, but they were out. I ended up ordering a Mediterranean salad and it was very sad looking. It was mostly lettuce with a sprinkle of other things. I ordered the larger portion but the to go box was barely half full. The dressing was lacking flavor, and the ingredients were fresh, a couple of days ago. What an awesome find! I read some reviews about it, but the pictures I looked at all seemed like catered events and small sampler portions. I wanted to try it anyway and I am so glad we did. It's looks like a rundown mexican restaurant across the parking lot from Bass Pro Shop. But don't be discouraged; all their effort is invested in the inside decor and the food. There is a good amount of merchandise available, ranging from collected jewelry and purses to skirts and scarves. The sets of tables and chairs all vary, but bring a nice, comfortable atmosphere. There's a kid's corner with small furniture and books. The outdoors seating area is fenced in and has lots of space and several tables. The service was top notch and came with friendly conversation. The inside of the cafe has a nice vibrant and inviting atmosphere. There are baked goods on display all around. The coffee was fresh and really good. The menu was not short, like I expected. I thought cafe, maybe a short, snacky menu. Nope! There are full breakfast options, lots of sandwiches, kids menu, sweets, salads and weekly dinner specials. We bought coffees, the cubana, tuna melt panini, and a pair of oatmeal creme cookies. First, the coffee cups are huge. Second, the owner even said, "Why serve crappy coffee?". It was a good cup of joe. The cubana was a nice take on a cuban, served in a pita with thick slices of turkey, a good amount of ham, and sweet pickles. I was happy with it. My wife's tuna melt panini was tasty and she kept saying how filling it was. The oatmeal creme cookies were terrific. Nice, crunchy oatmeal cookies sandwiching creme in the middle. My wife fell in love with a silver bracelet with inlaid rows of opal. The owner had gotten it from an indian reservation while out traveling. We purchased it and she is very happy. If you want it delivered, there were several Doordash signs inside. We shop at Bass Pro frequently and will definitely return to Momo's Cafe for food when we do. I'm looking forward to it! read more

Stopped here after a small shopping trip to bass pros shop. My wife and I with her mother wanted to get something good. So I yelped Momo's popped up. Didn't look like much from outside. So it's like a min away same parking lot. So not to make a long story. The food was excellent. Best tuna melt ever. The wife had a Cubana and loved it. Mother in law had fried green tomato salad. And asked for a small and still had enough to take home. The lovely waitress. Was so gracious. We had a great lunch. read more

Was in the mood for a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and stumbled upon Momo's. It's in the old Mexican restaurant next to where Lone Star used to be in Hampton on power plant. Threw me off a little (nobody was there), but once inside, I found a fun, whimsical store with painted tables, gorgeous coffee mugs, and good food at a decent price. Staff were wonderful and answered any questions. They do breakfast until 11:30. I'll be back again to try the lunch and the dinner specials. read more

Fellow Yelpers - I don't even know if I want you to know how amazingly awesome this place is because it might become a popular hang-out instead of one of my best kept food secrets! I actually stumbled onto this place because I was supposed to meet up with a friend at another restaurant nearby that was closed at lunch for some odd reason. My Yelp app pulled this place up and I was surprised there was something in City Center that I hadn't tried. So here's the catch - it's actually in an office building. The one behind the Paragon theatre. Super cute little cafe style with mis-matched chairs, tables, salt & pepper shakers, and a bunch of local artwork. It's cozy AND they have free wifi, which means it quickly rivaled other spots I hang out and work at in the afternoons. I've been in a few times now - once I had the spaghetti with meat sauce special (sooooo rich and tasty) and another time I had the turkey brie sandwich. The cranberry chutney on the turkey sandwich was mouthwatering delicious. Also have had the salads. The house-made vinaigrette is sweet and tangy, incredibly good. Both times my salad greens were fresh and crisp. I highly recommend this place -- it's becoming one of my favorite go-to lunch spots when I get my couple days out a week treats. The women who run the place are local and happy to chat about all kinds of local events and happenings. I can't believe more of you haven't been here yet -- and while I'm not much for remembering to take pictures with my phone, I made a point to get a few in the last couple times so that maybe folks would be enticed to come check this place out. Delicious food, great service! Convenient to the hotel I was staying in-- only a 3 min walk. Little hard to find until I realized it was inside the Liz Moore building (entrance faces the SunTrust bldg). This place is like someone converted a home into a restaurant, except it's on the first floor of an office building! I like the fact that nothing in Momo's feels like you're in a restaurant. It's like an extremely small version of Cracker Barrel. I wanted the nutella waffle last time I stuck my head in but they were out of Nutella. Well...fortunately they have enough food options that I wasn't totally disappointed. I just got a greek omelette instead and it was pretty good. The coffee is nothing to write home about but it had caffeine in it, so I was satisfied enough! The ladies that run the place are really nice. I can appreciate small talk in small doses, and they give me juuuuuust the right amount of that. I'm going to start frequenting this place since it's right down the street from my gym and I want to be able to give a more thorough review, but for now they get a 4-star and I'd stand by that even with my limited experience. read more

I guess some things are too good to be true. I was SO excited when I discovered this restaurant. The first time I ordered from them the food was great and I didn't have any issues. I've ATTEMPTED to order twice since then. On both occasions I received a call back (at work) and was told that they didn't have an ingredient necessary to make the dish. The first time there was no chicken for the BBQ quesadilla. This time there was no pita bread for their Crazy Curlin's favorite sandwich. The daughter seemed annoyed that I didn't want it prepared as a wrap instead. My card had already been ran, so I asked if I could have a salad instead. She's said there was a dollar difference, and that she wasn't in charge...That I'd have to wait for her mom to return to accommodate muy substitution request. I them asked if I could just have a refund. She said she didn't know how to do a refund, she'd have to wait for her mom. I asked about how long it would take and she became even more agitated and told me she "couldn't predict the future" I got another call back (on the work phone - that I did not give - got it from the caller ID I guess). She tells me her mom said I could substitute my original order for the salad - to which I agreed because I have no idea how long a refund will take. I discovered this place through the Eat24 app while looking for a good local bite. To say I was impressed the first time I ordered would be an understatement. I was ecstatic! This quality of fresh and unique food, for delivery, is rare in my book. The quality is high and the food is prepared neatly. The first time I ordered, I got 'Crazy Curlin's Favorite Sandwich' and, like, for real though, I'm pretty sure I must be Crazy Curlin, and I just rediscovered my favorite sandwich, cuz, well, it was really, really good. I think I had a salad and a smoothie and something else, but I'm really too lazy to flesh it all out and also I'm impatient to order again right now. But take it for what it's worth: for me, it's a really good sign that I'm so excited to order from a place for the third week in a! row. So give Momo's a try already! I was super excited to order delivery from this restaurant and, since it was my birthday thought it would be nice to enjoy a nice breakfast. About an hour after I ordered,I received a call notifying me that the menu hasn't been updated, and they no longer make waffles anymore. My partner ordered the meat lovers omelet platter that comes with a waffle potato cake therefore, I don't understand how they couldn't just whip something up for customer service purposes. The food cane 45 minutes after receiving a phone call, food arrived cold, and I didn't receive the almond short bread cookies ordered. Unfortunately, I will not be ordering delivery again. read more

I get take out from here at least twice a week. They always have the best homemade soups. I'm not a big sandwich eater but did try their version of the Monte Cristo which was really good but not your standard. The cook gave me a sample of the Kale & Farro Salad which was really delicious! I am visiting Newport News for a conference and I found this little hidden jewel. It was a mother-daughter business and everything was made fresh. I had the lunch special (soup and sandwich). Everything was made to order but oh that mushroom soup was delicious and so flavorful! I will definitely stop by again before I leave. I'm really impressed with the quality of food and zeal from this small cafe. Martha, owner and master chef hand prepares everything. This maybe one of the few places that doesn't have a Sysco truck stopping by. I use momos mostly for catering needs and so do several business colleagues. An absolute hidden gem! The decor and facility is very unique and warm. Not your traditional cookie cutter lunch. Very unique menu, and deliciously made in house food!
