How is there no reviews on this?? Anyway, let me explain something:
American Chinese food in NYC, unless dolled up and more expensive or specifically Szechuan or whatever, is typically the exact same thing across the board. Almost 99% identical menus, almost 99% identical sources from distributors, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have a network of people to distribute work in the shops.
That said- this place not having delivery made me think, they obviously get enough business and don't need to deliver. It was always *just* a touch too far for me for something as convenient as Chinese food, but today the stars aligned and I said F it, lemme try this out.
The front of the shop is almost hard to find, and inside is barren, uncomfortable and foggy windows. But it's Chinese food. Low expectations.
I got general Tso combo and a wonton soup. Just the color from the soup alone made me realize this was going to slap and it absolutely did.
As someone who eats Chinese food pretty often and is very picky about his variations- this place is worth going out of the way for.
Now is it gonna blow your mind like some Michelin star restaurant? NO! It's American Chinese food!! Chinese people don't even eat this stuff.
BUT. Of all the variations of shops, this is 1000% worth the detour and the inconvenience of having to pick it up. This is my new spot hands down.
Remember, it's Chinese food. Don't expect your feet to be kissed or a comfortable environment with flashy decor. Get your fried food and go on with your day. And go here so it's of the best of all the variations.
Had to give this place justice. read more
