The view, the wine, the appetizers, the service, the entree, the weather...Well ok, the weather was great though and it all made for a very nice dinner with friends. The view was atop a hill overlooking the valley below with a backstop of the hills that make the valley a valley. The flowers were in bloom and the grape vines were green with the air full of birds riding the updrafts in the background, just a calming and beautiful view. The vino is primo, and matches up with the menu for any strategic approach to fine dinning. It is what they do after all. The best appetizer I have had in a long, long time. wordered the 5 selection platter and it was just plain amazing!!! So robust with flavours and sauces, spreads and breads to match the selections. The servers were very helpful and attentive while they helped us develop this strategy for dinner. They answered every question with good information and just seemed like nice hard working professionals. The fillet mignon was cooked to perfection for each person and about a foot thick (well maybe a bit of exaggeration). It cut with a butter knife (no exaggeration) and it was a generous portion. It's truly beautiful out there, but the yellowjackets are really aggressive and even when they served food it was overpriced and average. They are a wine tasting/drinking facility that has three puny things to eat. (Cheese board $55 and basket of sourdough French bread $10.) I was very disappointed. No mention of zero lunch/dinner on their website. No patio tables. Yellowjacket bees swarm if you eat outside. (Someone cut all the lavender flowers off. My guess is the bees are hungry.) We had an excellent meal at kings estate! I had a glass of their sparkling and it paired well with everything. My husband and I started with the homemade bread and the plate of five cheeses. The cheese chosen were exceptional including one of my favorites, humbolt fog blue cheese. There were also some nice fruits like blueberries and figs and a great jam! My husband and I both had the salmon and we shared the olives and kale as sides. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was served on a bed of delicious mushrooms and homemade pasta. The kale was also awesome with the pork belly! Maybe my favorite thing! Having a major sweet tooth and since Oregon is known for their berries, I had the blueberry pie. It is what Californians would call a tarte (it was small and round and not the traditional pie wedge) but still very fresh and good. Service was excellent and the view outside was spectacular. I'd recommend a reservation though to make sure you can take advantage of the great view. read more

The view changes every time we dine on the Terrace, more beautiful each time. And the red wine flight was superb. We really enjoyed the warm olives, the roasted hazelnut (need more salt) and the bread. It just took time to get as we waited for ever coarse. Nothing is convenient for the servers and that translate to your guests. With all the staff there it should not be such a struggle to dine. Our server seemed more into showing his tattoo on his forearm, than anticipate our needs. He left empty plates way to long for the buser to pick up. Almost like he was to good. We had to ask for more bread, water, salt, pepper, more dressing and the check. The entree salads were good, but it was just not a crisp dining experience as previous visits. We were driving from PDX to Medford; a leisurely trip, but we did not want to spend the day, other wineries to visit. If the server did not get it, just talk to your guests. read more

The wine is not bad: it's much cheaper than better wine in Eugene restaurants, and drinking it in that place with that view is pretty nice. Our meal was served before we were done with our appetizers. The food was over-salted (especially the house-made crackers and the chicken). Our steak frites was served well after it was cooked, so we had tasty steak and cold fries. Everyone around us was having the cheap OK wine and salads or desserts. That's the way to enjoy this place: minimize your expense, maximize your pleasure in the location. read more

We had reservations for Memorial Weekend on Sunday and it just seemed to lack excitement and anticipation. The parking lot in front was empty which is most unusual. There were more visitors at the Creswell Bakery as we drove out.. We each started with a Mimosa but the meal leveled off after the drinks arrived. I've seen other reviews now that also mention a changed menu where finding something of interest was difficult for the first time. I had Belgian waffles , they were fine, but my wife's crab cakes were very small and tasteless because of more filling than crab. It's a one of the "primo" settings in all the state but the new chef needs to reconsider their menu makeover as we won't be in a hurry to return as there are too many other brunch choices 30-40 minutes closer. Cafe 440, Marche, Pancake House and Prime Sports all come to mind. read more

My wife and I went here for our 4th anniversary and we were not disappointed. The scenery was gorgeous, the atmosphere inside was intimate and the service was fantastic. When we arrived our server noticed our attire (a tad overdressed compared to the rest of the diners) and asked us if we were celebrating anything. Once he knew it was our anniversary he got us two glasses of their sparkling wine which was delicious. He took great care of us the rest of the evening and even worked with my wife on a spur of the moment surprise she had for me. I'm not a big fan of crab but we ordered the crab cake appetizer and it was fantastic. A little pricey at $18 for two cakes but I don't regret it. I had the duck breast which was delicious. However, it also came with a sweet potato flan which I found odd. It was like having a cold dessert on the same plate as your entree and just didn't pair well with the duck. My wife had the salmon which was good but not necessarily the best she's had. Hers came with gnocchi which were a little chewy and disappointing. The wine was AWESOME and we even took home a bottle of their signature pinot noir. But the best part was our waiter. Jackson was friendly, fun and really made our night. I was undecided on what wine to get so he got me 4 different tastings which were half a glass by themselves, and at no cost. That could be because we bought a bottle though. We also got a glass of dessert wine at no charge. Although it was an expensive dinner, we felt like it was reasonable considering everything that was included. read more

We've been coming here for years, and for the most part, our meals have been excellent. Our favorites have included - Domaine Wine (red or white), crab cakes, the roasted chicken, and the filet. Unfortunately, I can't give King Estate five stars... Until recently, we have really enjoyed the desserts and other offerings at King. But lately, some things have just been bad. For instance, if you order Tiramisu, it should not be a gelatinous blob on a plate - period. In addition, what happened to the quality of the Quiche Lorraine? It used to be one of our favorite brunch dishes... Apon arriving at the front door we were greated by a tall gentleman with no personality and seemed bothered that we walk through the door. Our waiter. Their wine and wine flights are delicious and the servers have excellent knowledge of their products. I always impressed with their menu and especially love the fact they use food from local farms. Their honey is harvested on site and they use fruits from their orchard. Im always impressed with the presentation of their food and was especially pleased with their golden raisin sourdough bread. King's Estate is a beautiful winery that has been a favorite of mine for a few years. Recently though, I think the quality has gone down. My latest experience was a lunch in early September. Overall, the service was bad and portions were meager for the price. I was not impressed and hoping it's an exception, not the new rule. We walked into King's Estate around noon on a weekday for lunch. They let us know there was about a 30 minute wait in which we tasted wines. The staff was very cordial and helpful through that whole process. Once we sat to on the beautiful patio overlooking the vineyard, our waitress guided us through the menu and left. After about 15 minutes she came back to take an appetizer order - and that's it. We received our charcuterie plate from another waiter. It was really delicious. They have an amazing chicken pate! The warm bread from the oven is a must (despite the $1 per piece). Next time, this will be my entire lunch as it far surpassed the remainder of our meal! Our waitress was MIA for another 40 minutes until we asked a different waiter if we could order more food (we never ordered entrees and had menus sitting with us the whole time). He found our original server who took our order and left. We didn't see her again for another 40+ minutes. I like when waiters give you space to enjoy your meal, but it's also necessary to allow your customer to finish ordering and see if they need anything. We ordered the crab cakes and two scallop appetizers, and truffle fries. I was sorely disappointed with these. The crab cakes were the size of a half dollar, flat and very dry. It was not delicious and terrible quality for the $16 appetizer. The scallops, which used to be my favorite, were also small and overcooked. While these are appetizers, when you have 3 of them after a large charcuterie plate, you should be full! Neither of us were. The table next to us had ordered the blueberry pie dessert. I was hesitant after our terrible appetizers but it looked delicious. It wasn't. The blueberries weren't transformed into pie filing. The crust was dry and thick. It was not good. I wish we'd skipped it entirely. Our waitress appeared a total of three times over the course of almost 2 1/2 hours. It made for bad service. Luckily another waiter stepped in a few times for us. Without him, I would have been really upset. Overall, it was a disappointing meal since we set aside time and money for this to be a special meal. If this had been our only experience at King's Estate, I wouldn't return. As is, even having a good history with them, I'm not excited to go back. read more

Now I don't take the following statement lightly, so here goes... It's the best burger I've ever had in my life, every time I have it. I've lost count how many. Is it a coincidence I live 5 minutes away from the best burger I have ever had and drive by the cows that are part of creating it every week? No. Should you try a burger here before you die? Yes. There's lots more to this place. I've had brunch, family, friends and romantic dinners alike here which have all been great. The other lunch menu offerings, wine, cheese plates, desserts....they are all excellent. It's a fancy place but it's also very casual in feel. Service is extraordinary. Like many fancy restaurants I do sometimes want larger side portions at dinner here than is served. I love that they do take out because there isn't much of anywhere else for about 20 miles. I would not go back here. The prices were expensive for the quality of food. I would not recommend to anyone to come here to eat. The desert was good. Sorbet was delicious & fresh. Just visited yesterday with out-of-state family. We had a great time and enjoyed our meal. We sat on the patio to enjoy the gorgeous view. My uncle had a wine flight and I had a glass of pinot gris. Delicious! We started off with some house-baked sourdough bread; it was outstanding. I got a delicious Tuscan kale salad. The others got salads, too, and shared a cheeseburger. They seemed to enjoy them. We also got a rich, dense, huge piece of chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream. The cake was torted into thin layers and filled with ganache--definitely a very shareable size. While the servers were knowledgeable and friendly, the food came out quite slow. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit. It was definitely a stunner for their first trip to an Oregon winery. (I think I may have set the bar kind of high...) read more

We really enjoyed seeing all of the squirrels and rabbits running around the grapes and fruit trees. It feels like you are on a drive in Tuscany, not Lorane! The servers were attentive and friendly, and went out of their way to make the dining an experience rather than just a meal. Yes, this is an expensive place to dine, but it is well worth it. The entree's range from upper $20s to upper $30, with the most expensive being $38 if I remember correctly. The server initially brought us bread and butter, and quickly changed it to Gluten Free bread when we asked. Very good Gluten Free bread. They also have Gluten Free crackers and crisps available. We ordered a cheese and charcuterie plate which came with a choice of either three or five choices from a list of cheese and meats. It was so good! The fig and walnut crisps were outstanding, and made in house. We also ordered the marinated tomatoes appetizer, all sourced in house, which was also delicious. For dinner, I ordered the grilled salmon while my beautiful wife got the 40 day aged New York strip. Everything was so good, we had one of the best meals in a very long time. We set our reservation for the end of the evening, so we got a chance to have a wonderful view of the valley that slowly darkened into a beautiful star filled sky. You can't get this anywhere in town, the lights block everything out. After dinner, we took a stroll around the grounds in front of the restaurant. Looking at the architecture, my wife had questions about the "tower" building so we went to ask the staff about it. The manager, Conner, told us that it was full of wine and graciously asked if we wanted a tour! He walked us up to the top floor, explaining everything about the vineyard and business. You have the option of dining indoors or out--- if the weather permits, I highly recommend outdoor dining since the scenery is so amazing. I understand that they also do tours. This is an interesting review to write because although I absolutely love King Estate, and have been multiple times and never had a bad meal, this particular night the service was so beyond appalling. It ranged from a long delayed wine service to waiting over 3 hours just to get the meal to our table. There were forgotten orders and mixed up meals. It was a spectacular disaster. It was so bad that we questioned even coming back. I don't even know how to rate this experience except to say that in an extremely classy move, King Estate not only comped our entire dinner without us even asking but they also gave us a bottle of champagne. I kept wondering why the staff made the choices they did. Upon arrival on a weekday hours later than the busy lunch rush, we waited 10 minutes for the hostesses to even acknowledge that we were there and would like a table. Although there was a team of three servers outdoors & two servers indoors, and at least six free table available in each section, the hostess made us wait 30 minutes to be seated. It then took the server about 15 minutes to take our order. At no point in the meal, did the server ever check in on us! Never asked if we were enjoying the food or if we needed anything. And yet, they seemed to have plenty of time to scoot chairs around at an empty table. The only reason I am giving two stars is that the setting is gorgeous and the food was delicious. What a wonderful place!! We started at the tasting room; fell in love with their rose! Moved on to the restaurant; wow, what a wonderful experience. I honestly wasn't very hungry; we had been eating and drinking our way through Oregon wine country for three days and this was our last night. I chose their Caesar salad to start; a very different Caesar in that it had a hint of sweetness in the dressing. Because I wasn't hungry, instead of an entree, I chose the roasted tomato tart from the appetizer list. It was wonderful.... roasted multi-colored tomatoes on top of a tangy cheese custard in a puff pastry shell....with a salad on the plate. Trust me, this is a meal in itself; I did not need the Caesar before!! Although I did not indulge in dessert, I had a taste of my friend's creme brulee, and it was excellent.
