Nice, a lite Pinot with a decent finish. The 100 Valley Pinot left me wanting something more. Finished off the tasting with their GSM. It was nice an easy drinking wine. A table wine. I can't help but wonder how these would have tasted in a good wine glass. That is my major negative here. The stemware is small stemless glasses with a huge lip. To see how these wines actually taste they should upgrade their tasting glass. Possibly a Reidel Oregon Pinot glass.

Their dog-friendly patio made the perfect spot for us to relax. We were on the hunt for some white wines, and Amy, our gracious host, created a custom tasting to help us find the perfect bottles to take home. We left with a 2022 Albariño, along with the 2023 and 2024 Rosé. A beautiful winery with serene views -- the perfect backdrop for sipping and savoring.

We had our puppy with us, so we sat at the covered patio area. Amy was our server. We hit it off right away. She took great care of us letting us share a custom tasting that included a 2021 Viognier, 2023 Grenache Rose, and a 2022 Albariño. We loved them all. We ordered a chilled bottle of Albariño to enjoy there. We ended up buying a couple bottles of the Albariño and one bottle each of their 2023 and 2024 Rose. We later learned that blending the two vintages of Rose (the 2024 has a touch more residual sugar) yielded an even better wine than either of the two vintages alone! We had an hour or so to spare before check-in, and I found this highly rated winery on Yelp, so I thought it would be a good place to stop for a break. It was an enjoyable drove along narrow country roads from the main highway in late October, with the trees showing their fall colors and fields of grass waving in the sun. Our GPS guided us to the front entrance, after which it got a bit confused as the paved, one-lane access road wound this way and that. We followed the signs to the tasting room and entered the medium-sized, stonewalled tasting room. We hadn't called ahead for a reservation, given the time of year, but the attendant welcomed us with open arms. He provided a great description of the vintner background, the winery, and the diversity of wines they grow. While I had tasted several Pinot Noirs from the Umpqua Valley, I wasn't aware of the other varietals. The attendant was very accommodating, letting us taste several different wines, especially as my wife is not as interested in wine as I am. I'm not a big fan of most white wines, although they are known for their Grüner Veltliner. I wasn't keen on the GV, but their Sauv Blanc was quite good for a US offering (we both like NZ Sauv Blancs a lot). On the darker side, their Syrah was just okay, but their Tempranillo was the best U.S. example of this varietal that I've ever had, and just a bit below some of the amazing ones I've had the pleasure to taste from Spain. It was so impressive that I decided to sign up for their quarterly wine club, which had been the farthest thing from my mind when I entered, but I've been very impressed with the shipments I've received so far. It is a bit of a drive off the beaten path but so worth it. In addition to the exquisite wines, the view is impressive. The first time we visited Spire Mountain Cellars, we joined the wine club. We love bold reds and the winemaker delivers! The tasting room is rustic and comfy. There is seating outside, also. Some of the area is covered and some isn't so there are a variety of seating options. It is closed in the winter so go quickly if you want to check it out. We will make sure we get in a couple more visits before it closes and will wait as patiently as possible until it opens again in the spring. I will take photos next time and update this post.

Quite the welcoming crew. The tasting room is an old barn. Really a neat set up. We ended getting a couple of glasses of their Pinot Noir and a rose. I quite enjoyed the Pinot. My son enjoyed the rose. They had a cat named Virgil who was as sweet as can be. He followed my wife to the sofa and proceeded to sit on her the whole time. Beautiful setting and the wine was good.

Awful experience at the vineyard today. Saw a starving 5 day old orphan baby lamb being mounted by…read morea much older sheep. This baby was so skinny and literally crying out for help/food! Our concern was met with excuses and a plain lack of concern for the well-being of their animals. After persistence and a bottle was given to the starving baby lamb. Baby lamb was then smashed into the ground by the older male in a mounting attempt. 5 days old is too soon to be abused and possibly killed due to negligence of the owners. ​

This one was highly rated and ended up being one of the first and largest in the area, with an indoor event space, outdoor concert stage, and plenty of parking. It's out away from Eugene, but a beautiful drive to get here. We visited shortly after opening on a weekday morning so it was basically all to ourselves. Two of my friends chose tasting flights, the attendant led them through a tasting which included a background about the winery itself. She was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I opted for a local beer to sip while they did, and loved our stop here. The featured plant art in the main room was also beautiful.
