This place is "A-OK" It's a small little store where you can see the cooks cooking behind the counter. As you walk in, you see a picture menu hanging up above/around the counter. They also have 2 tables to dine in. Some of the Best Calamari in town! If you love fried food, fried food done right, then you gotta check this spot out. Their calamari is flavorful, crunchy and not at all greasy. It's the kind where you don't have to worry about soaking up any grease with Bounty papertowels. It's sprinkled with sliced jalapeno peppers too. Yum. No type of sauce is served with it; it's that good, you can just eat it as-is, right out the plastic container. They also give you huge portions each time and know who you are the second/third time you come in. I've tried just another one of their dishes (lemon chicken) but wasn't very impressed with it So I stuck with the calamari the rest of my meal. It's a little hole-in-the-wall in a rather hidden area of Milpitas. You honestly wouldn't see it unless you already knew it was there; it can easily be passed up. Very affordable here with meal options when you're on the go. Sadly, there weren't much vegetarian options. Lightly battered and not oily, I really enjoyed their chicken wings. It was seasoned reasonably and was also very juicy. However, unlike other people, their salt and pepper calamari was all kinds of fail. I've been looking for a new place to get salt and pepper calamari ever since Chef P's fell off with theirs, but this place was just as bad. Every bite I had was all crunchy batter and very oily. If you live near Chef P's, you might as well get theirs since it's basically the same. It's a very small place which is why people order to go, but there are a few tables to wait and/or eat in if you get one of the combo dishes. It's also a cash only place and like most typical Asian places, the customer service is pretty bad. It's something I'm used to but this place is ruder than other places. For crying out loud, they made my sister show them our receipt before we could get our food. It had been over 4 years since I'd ordered from King Chicken Wing. My bf wanted the salt and pepper calamari for our NYE party and I vaguely remembered that you could only place a party tray order the day before. But I still went on NYE anyways in the morning to see if I could place an order for pickup later that day. The place opened up at 10am and I was driving up to the restaurant around 10:30am, located in the 7-11 plaza across from Ocean Supermarket, very small parking lot. There were only 2 ppl in line in front of me and when I asked if I could place an order for pickup at 5:30pm, the cashier asked what time and made sure they weren't too busy at that time to make my order. Luckily they were able to take my order so I ordered a small tray of the salt and pepper calamari ($38) and a large tray of house fried rice ($35). Note this place takes CASH ONLY. When I came back at 5:30pm on NYE, there was a sign on the door that they were only open for pickup. There were about 6 people in line but the place was super busy. My calamari was ready for pickup but needed to wait a few more minutes for them to finish my rice - at least I knew it was going to be fresh! While waiting, I heard the cashier turn down some new calamari orders because they simply did not have the bandwidth to make new orders during this busy time. The sign on the door DID specifically say they were open for pickup ONLY. When my fried rice was done, the young lady apologized for the wait. Now the service can be hit or miss, depending on who you get. The other reviews mention that this is a hole in the wall chinese owned family business. So yes, you can end up with one of the cashiers who can barely speak English and can be rude. Luckily the man who took my order was not rude (not super friendly either) and the young lady, possibly around late teens/early twenties was patient with the customers and apologized to me for my wait. But the food quality is good. And hot. And fresh. When ordering the calamari, DO NOT expect restaurant style calamari. It is crispy, like calamari chips as some other reviewers described. But really delicious nonetheless. The portions are really generous, they literally make a mountain of the food in the party trays. read more

Pros: The wing is crunchy, lightly battered and the flavour is subtle. You can actually taste the chicken hiding inside, and you don't feel like a greaseball afterwards. After the first wing or two, you start feeling like a chicken connoisseur, sampling the hints of pepper and salt from the juicy, delicious chicken. Cons: The flavour is too subtle. After a few more wings, you start realising that the reason you're looking out for all the little flavours inside the chicken is because there isn't very much of it. Hang on, didn't we order the salt and pepper chicken? There's definitely chicken, and it's definitely tasty. But where's the salt? And where's the pepper? After a little while, we figured out we could just add our own black pepper and it would taste pretty good. But you would think a store that called themselves King Chicken Wing would put in an adequate amount of seasoning. The salt pepper squid is very much over-fried for crispness, as many others suggest it could be a bit less well done (should have options for customers to choose).
