Poultry platter, Dan Dan noodles and bok choy
    Sam S.

King BBQ is a creative joint that serves Asian and low country fusion cuisine. Some of these flavor combinations were out of this world- the corn pudding being one of my favorites. Everything was made very well. My only critique is that the collards were a touch salty, but other than that I felt like these dishes capture Asian "mala" spice very well and had a great southern twist. Their drink menu looks so fun too, will definitely come back again so I can try them! The ambiance is great. During sunset the lighting in the joint is phenomenal. Service is nice as well- you order at the counter and they'll bring it to your seat.

The crab Rangoon was yummy and expectedly served as a dip with hush puppies. The plate options start with a base. I chose rice. Wish it had sticky rice. I opted for the pork belly for the protein but they were sold out. I got the ribs instead. It came with three ribs that had a great smoked flavor but were dry. The overall experience was meh. I'll return though to try some other dishes.

We came here to try something different during our visit to Charleston. I was surprised to find such a cool, hip, and delicious restaurant in this part of North Charleston. This has the skeleton of a traditional bbq restaurant with meats and sides, but with an NYC Chinatown flare. For example: BBQ Spareribs, Duck Leg and Breast, Five Spice Chicken, Hot Pot Collards, Chili Crisp Corn Pudding. We had the chicken, spareribs, and duck. We also ordered Dan Dan Noodles, collards, and rice. The meats were succulent and flavorful. The greens were in the top 5 of all time for me. The rice was average and the noodles were tasty and some of the longest noodles ever. We were a bit disappointed that a few items were out but it was after 7 pm on a Friday during Christmas week. There is a full bar upon arrival while waiting in line to order food. You have to find a table and food will be brought to you. Additional items can be ordered using a QR code at the table. The decor feels like a fun, intimate Chinese restaurant with 70s and 80s R & B playing overhead. I am excited to return upon my next visit to town.

The flavors were bold, smoky, and unforgettable. Everything from the brisket to the sauces had that just-right balance of sweet, spicy, and savory. The vibe inside is super casual but thoughtfully cute and nostalgic. Anime playing on the tv screens. Chinese decor. The kind of place where you feel relaxed but still notice the little design touches that make it feel special. Loved the music selection. Perfect for a laid-back lunch or a casual date night when you're craving something hearty but deliciously different.

Best meal I have had in Charleston so far. Would 100% go back. Service was amazing, staff was friendly and attentive. Great vibe overall. Had the dessert - a snickerdoodle cream pie when I got home and it tasted like heaven.

The best meal my husband and I had while visiting Charleston! Service was quick, food was delicious, and the ambiance was nicely casual. The egg rolls were a stand out but everything we had was wonderful.

Came her for Sunday dinner and the parking was plenty at King bbq. The ambience is pretty nice and remind me of the old fancy Chinese restaurant but the music played on the background was very hip. The service was good and we didn't wait too long for our food. The drink pretty good and the smoke bbq was pretty nice. We had a house French fries with nice seasoning to it. The noodle were good but not fantastic. The pork belly as a choice of protein for the BBQ on noodles was the best choice for the protein option. The amount of chicken on our other the bbq noodle order and bbq noodle soup were good amount. The bbq noodle soup has pepper Szechuan so it will make your tongue a bit numb but it was good. This restaurant is good to try but not sure if it will make it to my restaurant rotation like the sister restaurant, Jack Rabbit Philly. All the best for King BBQ.

The hype is real, loved everything about this funky fast-service Asian fusion restaurant. The staff was so helpful in deciding what to order and making recommendations. Everything was fresh, hot and exploding with flavor. The deconstructed crab Rangoon was the standout for me. Can't wait to visit again so I can try other options.

I am logging the meal I just ate at King BBQ as one of the best I've ever had. My party of three is visiting from Chicago, and this place came up a few times in our trip research as being a great place for dinner. Don't let the drive up to North Charleston deter you if you're a tourist like I am! The exterior of the restaurant is unassuming but the vibe inside is casual and fun. You walk in, order at the counter, and are then given a number for the food to be delivered to your table. The employee who took our order was patient, kind, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The employee who dropped our food off also took a moment to explain each dish. The service was awesome start to finish, especially for being counter service. Two of us are vegetarians and opted to share a variety of dishes. The Mongolian Mushrooms (piled onto the steamed pancakes we got on the side) were divine. The portion felt small for $19 but wow, they were amazing. The crunchy salad was fresh, as were the homemade dressings we sampled on the side. The chili crisp corn pudding was tender and flavorful, as were the hush puppies we ordered because we happened to be there during their Golden Hour happy hour. Finally, the spicy dan dan noodles were that flavorful kind of spicy that keeps you going back for another bite. We were thrilled with our meal and will definitely be back the next time we are in Charleston!

Pulled pork with rice, rotisserie chicken with noodles, disco fries
    Michelle C.

Date night at home called for that new-new . We got the disco fries for an appetizer and ooohhhhh my goodness. The cheese curds with the pork and the gravy ... I could've eaten my weight in this appetizer. For our entree, we each chose a different protein (one on rice, one on noodles). Those garlicky noodles - I could've eaten an entire dish of just those. On the noodles we got the rotisserie chicken. Honestly, that was my least favorite of it all. It had sort of an irony taste to it and it was a huge piece that was still on the bone. I don't care for having to work to get my meat off the bone (it was pretty difficult to separate from the bone). On the noodles we had the pork again - yummy. I'm excited to go back and try some of the other things!

Shuai and Corrie shouldn't be allowed to open any more restaurants. Really, it isn't fair to the rest of the F&B world to have to compete with the GOAT. I am so glad I waited a couple of weeks and hit up the King BBQ popup at Edmund's today. They introduced two new menu items that feel custom-made for me: chicken-fried mushroom sandwich and corn casserole. I mean, can you even?! Corrie was the sweetest of sweet and threw in a side of the mac&cheese to sample as well. And, again, not that I expected anything less, but somehow my tastebuds are still surprised with every new item I try from them. The mushroom sandwich was massive. Absolutely gigantic. I really struggled to eat even half of it because I had to take weird half-bites since it was made for someone with a mouth significantly larger than mine. I took home the other half and it was too big for their bigger to-go container. Woops. The mac&cheese was creamy and delicious. They crumbled CheezIts on top for a nice crunch and drizzled some hot bbq sauce on top for an added (and welcomed) kick. The corn casserole was a perfect addition to round out the meal - it had great flavor and also had a drizzle of heat without being overwhelming. We got there right at noon and were able to bypass the crazy rush that came soon after. If you're trying to go, go early but try to get there before everyone clocks out for lunch so you can have your pick of the menu!

    Cha Shao Spare Ribs
    Jason A.

The service was great, food was mediocre. Staff did a great job explaining the menu, but unfortunately was out of duck, which is what I was looking forward to. We ordered the Shrimp Toast Sliders, Wings, Ribs, Corn pudding, and BBQ Meats on Noodles. Shrimp Sliders: Very interesting, had crunch but the sauce was mostly what you taste. Wings: Typical buffalo wings. I assumed there would be some sort of Asian fusion, but there was none. Cha Shao Ribs: Good, but after the initial bite, not a ton of flavor. Corn pudding: Dry and was more like a soft cornbread with garnishes. BBQ Meats on Noodles: I got mine with pork and added the spicy option. I enjoyed the noodles, and if I go back would probably leave the pork off. The noodles were that good! I enjoyed the visit but I can't say it's at the top of my list for places to re-visit. Give it a try, definitely worth establishing your own opinion!

Baby bok choy with seasoned soy sauce, chao shao pork ribs, & smoked 5 spice duck leg
    Kristen D.

What a lucky discovery before we ended up weekend in Charleston! The magazine feature of this hot spot lead us to King BBQ and it blew our socks off in terms of flavor, complexity and overall quality. The techniques used and fun fusion of cuisines are truly a match made in heaven. To pick a favorite is nearly impossible, but I'll share what I liked most about each dish. I'm nearly always a smoked/BBQ pork kinda gal - love the smoky notes paired with the mild flavor of pork. Add the sauce here which had a wonderful depth of sweet and savory, for a true umami appeal. It's a dish I could eat anytime of day - breakfast and midnight snack included. Plus the ability to roll it into the pancakes just makes eating it more fun. Which isn't to say the ribs and duck aren't also finger food - both were easily devoured as such. The duck was a wonderful surprise for a bbq menu option and the 5 spice plus smokiness were next level preparations. Pork ribs are a real treat as well and these were meaty and flavorful with a nice layer of fat melted in, just as you would hoped to see. The bok choy was fabulous side dish to balance the richness of the meats while also still delivering savory goodness with each bite. The techniques for infusing flavor and the slow cooking methods for perfect preparation were evident in every bite. I always say I'm not a big meat eater but damn good BBQ will keep me from ever turning away from it. With a place like this, I'd absolutely go back weekly I lived nearby. This place will soon have lines out the door and around the corner so take note and get your fix now - though you'll no doubt be addicted once you do! Props to the chef and staff for the incredible eats you're sharing with the community!

I wanted to try the original but they didn't have any available at the time. My options were Buffalo Dumpwings and Chicken and Conecuh Sausage. I got a bag of each and even got a couple extra buffalo that I think they just had extra! It came with sauces for both an instructions for easy pan cooking. I made a batch of both to put with dinner and it was easy enough. I've made frozen dumplings before so it was a familiar process. While I enjoyed bothe flavors, they're both very bold. I would only want a few at a time and wouldn't really make a meal of of them. I think I would do that with the traditional so I'll have to try those next time. Either way, these dumplings are amazing and creative with the flavors. Check them out at a pop up or order some delivered with a porch drop off.

You can tell they really pay attention to the details. For dinner, we ordered the 8 oz filet and the mushroom risotto. The filet was cooked perfectly (medium rare just as we requested) and was everything you want in a great steak. The mushroom risotto was delicious and full of flavor, but for me (wife), it was just a bit too salty. My husband agreed. Next time, I would definitely ask for less salt because the dish itself was excellent otherwise. We skipped dessert, but honestly didn't feel like we were missing anything after such a great meal. The live music was amazing and really elevated the entire experience. The crowd and vibe were just as good--some people dressed to the nines, while others were in shorts, flip flops, and t-shirts with ball caps. It was a fun mix and made the whole place feel welcoming and energetic. Overall, an awesome experience and a spot we'd absolutely come back to.

It was just after 12 noon and by some miracle we only stood in line about ten minutes. The rush came in shortly after although I will say they handle the crowds beautifully. When it comes to barbecue, I am a pulled pork girl and I have lived in Texas! I don't hate on brisket, but none of it has bowled me over. Until today. Once again, I wasn't ordering so I just went with the flow. That chopped brisket sandwich was so moist and full of flavor that it did not need a DROP of barbecue sauce. I did use the sauce to dip my fries in. I don't often eat macaroni and cheese although I do love it ( my hips don't!) but I had to try it or risk the wrath of my lunch companions. It was delicious! That's only half true. The mac and cheese was incredible! I am still drooling over it. Nice crust on top.. so yummy. Now, I had the brisket because sometimes pork doesn't agree with me. I wish I would've just taken an antacid and had the pork. I ordered the sliced lean brisket. It was not as tender as I would think and a little on the dry side. My husband had the pulled pork and our daughter had the pulled pork sandwich. Both raved about it. I had a bite of the sandwich and instantly regretted my meat choice. We ordered a pint of the mac and cheese, which was amazing! We also order a side of the tallow fries. Those were delish as well. The line was super long but they did a good job at moving it along. We sat outside at the patio since we had our pup with us. Great place to check out when visiting Charleston but I would encourage you to try the pork over the brisket.
