This off the beaten path non traditional bbq place is a really unique experience. This was our first time trying King because we are big fans of Jackrabbit Philly. The process is a bit confusing as far as grabbing a menu then ordering at the counter then they bring your food, so we decided to sit at the bar where it's full service. The bartender was amazing. She had recommendations and let me try a drink before fully committing. We ordered the Golden Hour fries with yum yum sauce (amazing), the crab rangoons, pulled pork noodles and red beans and rice with chicken. The crab rangoons are not what you think of for traditional rangoos. They're actually hush puppies with a crab dip. The hush puppies are incredible and we just spooned the dip on top. Different but delightful. The pulled pork noodle bowl was a bit of a let down. It truly was just a heap of noodles and some pork. The pork was really really good, but I was surprised the noodles had no flavor and overwhelmed the bowl. The red beans and chicken had much more flavor, it was bone in chicken however the flavor was really nice. The drink menu is thoughtfully curated and crafted with some really unique options. We tried a highball and a frozen drink and both were really tasty. Next time I think I will order a BBQ plate so I can have more of the actual meat because it was really good, but I'm glad I tried something a little different. read more

I adore this place! Went here for trivia and it was fun. I do love the $10 noodle deal and it was really good. The food came fast and they did an amazing job at explaining the menu to us since it was our first time. The inside was really cute. I didn't like some of the stuff there like the hush puppies. It was a little dry and the sauce it came with didn't really compliment it. It was a weird combination in my very honest opinion. While I enjoy a good sauce, the hush puppies sauce tasted like a spicy duck sauce. Everything else was amazing! I still would recommend this place for anyone visiting Charleston:) read more

We're in the south and there's good BBQ everywhere. So I really appreciate King taking a different approach and constantly crushing it! Seriously, their Instagram page is legit food porn. But that's what you get when you take people from different cultures and different culinary backgrounds, and bring them together. I feel like the term "fusion" may be an understatement for them, as there is no single word to describe what they do. The best I can describe is they're a bunch of mad scientists creating culinary delights. Lol. But in all seriousness, the meat quality is great and the price doesn't break the bank. Updated review after my 03/22/26 visit with my mom. The stars dropped because this is the first time I've received food that wasn't up to King BBQ standards. Mom loves ribs so we ordered their fried ribs. If you look at the picture, they look amazing. Unfortunately the meat was so tough we couldn't eat them. The szechuan sauce on them was finger licking good, but the ribs were inedible. We also ordered the creamy slaw. It was not seasoned and easily the most basic thing I've ever had here. And this place is not where you expect to find basic food. The service and atmosphere are still great, it was just not the day for me to bring my mom. This was my first visit to King BBQ and I have to say it was fantastic. The atmosphere was comforting from the first step in the door and we were greeted making us feel welcome. It's sometimes hard to find good non alcoholic beverages but at King they had several options making me very happy! To top it all off the food was delicious!!! Fusion Asian-Southern cuisine done right! This place came highly recommended, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The ambiance is casual with a subtle Asian vibe--nothing over the top, just a relaxed and welcoming space. We started with a Dragula (frozen sangria with cherry Coke), and it was perfectly balanced--not too sweet with just the right kick. For apps, the Deviled Krab Rangoon with crispy hushpuppy balls was a standout--creative and seriously delicious. The Mapo Cheese Fries are a must if you're hungry... easily a meal on their own and packed with bold flavor. I had the noodle soup with spiced chicken and a side of fried corn, and the soup tasted like pure comfort--rich, homemade, and full of flavor. What a great hidden gem! I know its been open for a few years now, but. I finally made it there for lunch. This place will not disappoint. Interior is casual with an Asian flare. Orders are placed at the counter and food delivered to your table. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got deviled krab rangoon dip with hushpuppies to start. Best hushpuppies I've had in a very long time. The dip was full of flavor and shredded crab. I got the jasmine rice with mushrooms for my main course. They smoke grilled the mushrooms that added an extra level of flavor I didn't expect. It was sooooo good! This was such a wonderful experience! First time here and I was hooked when the owner was on top Chef! I love Jack rabbit Philly, so why not give this a try? Don't miss it because it can be hard to see, but just look for the big beautiful lions at the front door! My friend from Summerville and I met here because it's sort of halfway. It was both of our first times and we enjoyed it so very much!! My friend got the crab Rangoon fritters and the red rice with Yum Yum sauce. She took fried ribs home for her hubby. I got the shrimp, toast, sliders, side of Dan, Dan, noodles and fried ribs. I had enough food for three different meals! I would have to say my favorite thing of the day was the shrimp toast sliders! I heated one up in the air fryer when I got home and it heated perfectly!! The only thing that could've made it five stars is if we didn't have to grab a menu seat ourselves go up and order our drinks and go up and order our food and then wait! Although everybody was super friendly, it was a lot of getting up and down for both my friend and I who both have had recent surgeries also, maybe a few more options at the bar kind of standards like no OJ and no Kahlua. Every time we hit up King BBQ we go hog wild with ordering: this time we got the duck/chicken (which we do every time), the corn pudding, collards, okra, noodle soup, and desserts. Incredible meats! The pulled pork was the best I've ever had. So flavorful and moist. Rotisserie chicken was delicious and so were the ribs. This place rivals Lewis BBQ in my opinion. This was my first time dining at this restaurant. I went during lunchtime right after they opened. Starting with the atmosphere and décor , the restaurant is nicely decorated and clearly reflects an Asian food concept, which I really liked. Ordering and payment are done at the counter. Overall, about 90% of the service is self-service: you choose your own seat, get your own utensils, napkins, and water. The staff mainly brings the food to your table. Food ordered: * Pork belly with rice * Duck noodle soup * Five-spice chicken The presentation was very nice and appetizing. The meat portions were quite large and served with bones, which is typical for Asian-style dishes. Portion sizes felt fair for the price. Taste: * The duck skin was crispy and the meat was not dry, which was great. However, the soup broth was extremely salty after about three spoonfuls, my tongue felt numb. * The pork belly had crispy skin and came in large pieces. * The five-spice chicken was also cut into large pieces, tender and not dry, but the sauce was quite salty as well. Regarding the soup containers: since I only ate a few bites of the soup and had a lot left, the staff at the counter gave me two small soup containers. When I asked if I could have one larger container instead, she replied rather bluntly, "I already gave you two cups." If I had been in a bad mood, I probably wouldn't have liked that response. A gentler tone would have sounded much nicer. Overall, the experience was good. Food-wise, all I can speak to is the pork bbq. It was fine. Nothing unusual for a restaurant. Probably not great for a restaurant with bbq in its name. The iced tea was from a soda machine. Fine. Meal came with a bag of chips. Fine. I will readily say the bbq pu pu platter was enthusiastically devoured by my table mates. I did not join in so I cannot speak to it but I trust them that it was worth the trip. And my wife LOVED the shrimp toast sliders. So perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. Order is at a counter, table delivery. There is a bar area as well. Bathrooms were clean and large. It seemed there were a lot of regulars, they knew the staff. So I am sure they get repeats. I've been wanting to make a visit to King BBQ for a while now and for one reason or another I haven't been in. I remedied that mistake recently by stopping in randomly for dinner. We had a problem with our washer so after a marathon of doing weeks of laundry at the laundromat on reynolds, we decided we deserved a treat-yo-self dinner. When you come in you seat yourself at the bar or a table and then order at the counter. They give you a number and bring out your food accordingly. After scouting them for months on Yelp and Instagram, I had an idea of some of the must have items, but when I looked at the menu, it all went out the window. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, but there were only two of us. While we knew we'd be taking home leftovers it looked like the best way have it all was to order the Chinatown Delight and call it a day. It comes with spare ribs, crispy pork belly, the five spice chicken, and the crispy duck. Plus you get to choose three of their sides. We opted for the dan dan noodles, bok choy, and jasmine rice (only because the bbq sticky rice had just sold out). The whole thing also comes with steamed bao buns and pancakes too. This is definitely a lot of food. It would be perfect to share with 4 people and everyone would be satisfied, but ordering it for two people is not insane either. I don't know if I can pick a favorite of the meats because they were all delicious in their own way, but gun to my head and I'm saying the ribs. The chicken is really close up there though. For the sides the clear winner was the bok choy. I didn't expect it but we both really enjoyed it. Next time I'd like to try the chili crisp corn pudding too. The bao and pancakes were good to stuff and eat, but the flavors on the meats really speak for themselves so I only used a couple of them. The cocktails look great, but I wasn't in the mood so I order the Dancing in the Moonlight. It's a milk tea with chocolate popping boba... kind of a unique take on a fancy chocolate milk. Otherwise we just had water which they offer self-serve style by the counter. Everything came out pretty quickly and all at once. Luckily we moved from a two person booth to a four person because we needed the space for all the dishes. After finishing what we could, I grabbed some togo boxes and packed it up for later which all reheated really well. I can assure you that none of it went to waste. What a creative and inventive restaurant that puts a southern low country spin on Asian foods. I loved the chili oil corn pudding. We got a poultry platter and the flavors were delicious and meat cooked and seasoned well. The service was great, ambience was lovely. I had been dying to come to King BBQ after hearing such good things about it for so long. I decided to order a LOT on the menu so I could try it all because I am not typically in this neck of the woods. My first impression was that I LOVED the ambience in there; it's really fun. Be prepared to order at a counter like traditional BBQ, there's no servers. However, we were not directed on how to get plates, silverware or napkins. I don't know if it is because I was hyped up too much in my head to come here, but the food was okay. It was good. Nothing insanely special that I haven't had before in Charleston. Popped into King BBQ after a flight (near the airport) to try out their unique fusion of Chinese food with a southern BBQ flair. The interior has a fun vibe and the accent pieces make you feel at home with its contempary oreintal vibe blended with old school Chinese restaurant fixtures. The service was solid but stiff which is unsual for Charleston. No issues, they were on top of their game and it was well delivered just not super friendly. The food is tasty. The Chinese BBQ pork ribs were fantastic. I'm a huge BBQ pork fan with hot mustard and appreciated the flavor balance of their smoked southern influenced country style BBQ pork with it's sweetness. The mustard is a little watery, probably from the extra vinegar, but it blends well with the flavors of the pork. I enjoyed the egg rolls and a drink in the restaurant and took the rest as take out. The egg rolls were the most disapointing thing with a heavy wrap that covered up the flavors of the meat and cabbage. I ended up opening up surgically the sceond one and eating part of the crispy wrapper with the interior goodies. The flavors with a little bit of mustard were fantastic. The rest of the food came home and when reheated were great. I would argue the duck needs to be eaten fresh and when the skin is crispy. The smoked flavor was great on a bun but the skin needed to be pealed off given how soggy it became as a take out item. The five spice chicken was excellent as was the spice in the dan dan noodles. All in all, can't say more nice things about King BBQ. Unusal angle to southern bbq and much appreciated. Look forward to them sticking around for years to come! read more

The Star of the show for our first time visit: Crispy Roast Pork Belly. I was a very big fan of this "Barbecue By The Pound" item. Very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I don't always eat pork, but this was amazing after the first bite. Runner up was the Shrimp Toast Sliders. Very tasty! We ordered several other dishes, including the Fried smoky chicken sandwich, a side of BBQ fried rice with ranch, along with a side corn cake. I understand that this is a fusion restaurant, blending Asian and Southern cuisine. For me there were a lot of misses here. The chicken sandwich was good, however, the pickled collard greens were not my favorite pairing with this dish. If the collard greens were not pickled, it may have been better. The corn cake was bland unfortunately. The BBQ fried rice was SWEET. Not a fan. Overall, I'd come back for the pork belly and the shrimp sliders. But that's about it. read more

The creamy slaw didn't taste overly of mayo, instead it was a great cooling palette cleanser to some of the spicy food. A hidden gem in North Charleston. Very clean and nice decor once you go in. Everyone we spoke to walking in was very friendly. They have a good amount of bar seating but you order at the counter if u want to sit at a regular table. Very unique menu, I would say Chinese meets American classics. They had a lot of good options it was hard to pick. We ended up getting the fried pork ribs app (DELISH!) tender and so flavorful. Dan Dan noodles, hash and rice cakes and bbq meat over rice and bok choy. The pork was juicy and seasoned well on the rice bowl. Dan Dan was different that what I expected because the versions I've had before there's more sauce and this was a very dry version. I think it needed a bit more balance but it still had good flavor and spice. The hash and rice cake was the most unique dish. Personally the presentation threw me off a bit because I didn't know there was going to be pork as it wasn't listed so I didn't know what it was a first. Once I dug into it I realized it was like a marinated pork over the rice cakes. The meat was very flavorful which went nicely with the simple rice cakes. The good: Fun atmosphere (I'm a big fan of any place that has anime on in the background), easy ordering process, friendly staff, super quick for the food to come out. Fried rice was delicious as was the corn pudding. The "hush puppy crab rangoons" were creative and an interesting twist on a classic. The not-so-good: The duck was dry and forgettable, as was the pork belly. Shrimp toast was okay, but small given the price. We ordered the "pancakes" thinking they were were scallion pancakes, but they were just plain thin sheets that cost $3 (which should've been included in the duck platter to begin with).
