Love this out of the local gem. Set the gps and trust the process- because china town and good bbq often come with an out of the location. Easy parking and cute interior reward you once you arrive. We choose to order and eat at the bar but it's a help yourself to a spot and order at the counter. The cocktail list was unique and a bit challenging- we enjoyed the voodoo girl and red wine. Friendly helpful service from our female bartender. Great rice with 5 spice chicken and ribs. Nice slaw and pickles. Perfect hot hushpuppies with a spicy duck sauce. Really memorable, cravable food with personality. Well done Chef!
Been wanting to come check this place out because I had heard so much about it and while it was good, it didn't feel like it lived up to the hype. The food was fresh and had good flavor but for the price it wasn't necessarily my favorite Chinese bbq. The ambiance is nice and I did like the vibe. Order at the counter and sit anywhere . Not many places to sit if it's a big group.
We absolutely love this place and visit often! Delicious food, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Nice to just walk in and order - no reservations needed.

I love King BBQ. It's a must go every time I travel to Charleston. The fusion of Chinese and southern bbq is done so well! The pulled pork is fantastic, the 5 spice chicken is amazing, the specials are always interesting and delicious.
I adore this place! Went here for trivia and it was fun. I do love the $10 noodle deal and it was really good. The food came fast and they did an amazing job at explaining the menu to us since it was our first time. The inside was really cute. I didn't like some of the stuff there like the hush puppies. It was a little dry and the sauce it came with didn't really compliment it. It was a weird combination in my very honest opinion. While I enjoy a good sauce, the hush puppies sauce tasted like a spicy duck sauce. Everything else was amazing! I still would recommend this place for anyone visiting Charleston:)
Fusion Asian-Southern cuisine done right! This place came highly recommended, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The ambiance is casual with a subtle Asian vibe--nothing over the top, just a relaxed and welcoming space. We started with a Dragula (frozen sangria with cherry Coke), and it was perfectly balanced--not too sweet with just the right kick. For apps, the Deviled Krab Rangoon with crispy hushpuppy balls was a standout--creative and seriously delicious. The Mapo Cheese Fries are a must if you're hungry... easily a meal on their own and packed with bold flavor. I had the noodle soup with spiced chicken and a side of fried corn, and the soup tasted like pure comfort--rich, homemade, and full of flavor. We also tried the Sichuan collards, and even if you're not usually a collards fan, this dish might win you over. Overall, such a great experience. My only wish was for more photos of the dishes beforehand--but that's an easy fix. Definitely worth checking out!
We're in the south and there's good BBQ everywhere. So I really appreciate King taking a different approach and constantly crushing it! Seriously, their Instagram page is legit food porn. But that's what you get when you take people from different cultures and different culinary backgrounds, and bring them together. I feel like the term "fusion" may be an understatement for them, as there is no single word to describe what they do. The best I can describe is they're a bunch of mad scientists creating culinary delights. Lol. But in all seriousness, the meat quality is great and the price doesn't break the bank. So if you're looking for a not your run of the mill BBQ joint, look no further!
We had been in Columbia at City Limits BBQ (amazing!) when one of their employees told us about King BBQ and that we need to try it. We finally got there. It is the quintessential BBQ joint with a fun adidas flare. You don't know whether you're down south or in Chinatown. We started with some beer and ordered the hush puppies and fried ribs. It was a great way to start! They were both delicious. Three of us went with the pork combo and one of us had the duck service. I don't want to forget the sides! The sides!!! These may have stolen the show for us. The red beans and rice, the slaw, the Szechuan collards, oh my!!! One was better than the next! None of us were disappointed! This is truly an Asian take to southern BBQ. The food is great. I've been to their sister restaurant, JackRabbit Philly and that's definitely more my speed and taste preference, both places are a must try though.

It's sometimes hard to find good non alcoholic beverages but at King they had several options making me very happy! To top it all off the food was delicious!!! If you are looking for diversity in your BBQ options then look no further King BBQ is the place. P.S. Once it's a little nicer outside we will visit them again and sit in their outdoor dining space.
This off the beaten path non traditional bbq place is a really unique experience. This was our first time trying King because we are big fans of Jackrabbit Philly. The process is a bit confusing as far as grabbing a menu then ordering at the counter then they bring your food, so we decided to sit at the bar where it's full service. The bartender was amazing. She had recommendations and let me try a drink before fully committing. We ordered the Golden Hour fries with yum yum sauce (amazing), the crab rangoons, pulled pork noodles and red beans and rice with chicken. The crab rangoons are not what you think of for traditional rangoos. They're actually hush puppies with a crab dip. The hush puppies are incredible and we just spooned the dip on top. Different but delightful. The pulled pork noodle bowl was a bit of a let down. It truly was just a heap of noodles and some pork. The pork was really really good, but I was surprised the noodles had no flavor and overwhelmed the bowl. The red beans and chicken had much more flavor, it was bone in chicken however the flavor was really nice. The drink menu is thoughtfully curated and crafted with some really unique options. We tried a highball and a frozen drink and both were really tasty. Next time I think I will order a BBQ plate so I can have more of the actual meat because it was really good, but I'm glad I tried something a little different.
What a great hidden gem! I know its been open for a few years now, but. I finally made it there for lunch. This place will not disappoint. Interior is casual with an Asian flare. Orders are placed at the counter and food delivered to your table. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got deviled krab rangoon dip with hushpuppies to start. Best hushpuppies I've had in a very long time. The dip was full of flavor and shredded crab. I got the jasmine rice with mushrooms for my main course. They smoke grilled the mushrooms that added an extra level of flavor I didn't expect. It was sooooo good! My hubby got the fried smokey chicken sandwich topped with pickled green tomatoes and habanero duck sauce. He absolutely loved it! The chicken was crispy, not greasy and cooked to perfection! There is also a private outdoor seating area and a huge parking lot.
This place is fire. I love what they have going on. Every single person walks in orders, the ribs, it's like a prerequisite for entry. It's pretty crowded every time I pass by and it's been on my list. There noodles are EPIC!!!!! For a minute and now I understand this is the best Asian fusion place I've been to thus far and I've been to about 5 of them, I don't eat pork so I can't tell you about the ribs. But I can't tell you that this chicken is perfect, perfectly seasoned. I can eat the skin all day. Their curry, corn pudding was the perfect complement to it. I don't understand the hush puppies and the crab Ragoon. With these prices, if you're going to make a crab ragoon it cannot be imitation crab LOL and these are not hush puppies. These are just fried circular sweet dough, this was a big fail, it was tasty. Butl a fail the shrimp sliders were a disappointment. Also, these little shrimp cakes are so filled with grease. And then you put 3 tons of Mayonnaise, all on one slider, it's like a highway to a heart attack. You can't tell the flavor of the shrimp cakes because they're so plastered in mayonnaise but I did notice it's the top seller here along the ribs but I can clearly tell that I will not rest until this whole menu is conquered. I will be back shortly to do so. I was looking at other people's table and food being brought out. And I got the stomach wets LOL,. It is definitely worth the trip. Trust me on this, I will be back soon.
Been a long time since I've come back and idk why I waited so long. Had a couple friends in town that really wanted to come here because they saw it as a highly recommended place on food network! We got the deconstructed spicy crab Rangoon with hush puppies. These were fire! Hush puppies were maybe the best I've had here in Charleston. Once you break it apart and dip it with the crab meat it was decadent and delish. I got the crispy pork belly bowl and they also got the duck and chicken plate along with two sides which were the collards and mustard cucumbers. Those will clear up your nostrils real quick with that hot mustard. The duck was crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The scallion oil on top was what made it super tasty. We loved the vibe and how quickly our food came out! We left no crumbs behind! Love Chef Shuai and the team here! read more

Since my off visit back in March everything at King BBQ has been back to normal and deserves my 5 stars again. I've been twice in two weeks, both on a Wednesday. I had the $10 burger and beer special the first Wednesday and today I had the fried chicken thigh sandwich dipped in the hot sauce. I was also celebrity chef star struck when I walked in and saw Shuai there! I recently went down the Top Chef binge watching rabbit hole and watched his season. It was super cool to get to see him in person in the kitchen instead of on my tv screen. :-) And as I mentioned the 5 stars are happily back in place as everything I've had has been delicious. I can't wait to return. read more

Stopped by King BBQ for trivia and their $10 noodle night! The featured dish was a Pozole Udon, which was unique and tasty. While the fries were excellent, the hushpuppies were a bit dry and fair warning, that dipping sauce packs some serious heat. They have a great rotating selection of seasonal drinks, too that are really good. I definitely recommend checking them out for lunch, a trivia night or even dinner! read more

We stopped here after landing in Charleston and didn't know what to expect. It was great. We loved everything we ordered. The staff is friendly and helps explain the food and what's popular on the menu. Definitely a highlight of our trip! Try the mapo fries! read more

King BBQ has become one of North Charleston's flagship restaurants. This is where you'll find the biggest flavors, coolest decor (dare I say ~sexy~ interior design), and most daring cocktail menu. Pricey, yes. But well worth it for date night or business meeting. read more
This was such a wonderful experience! First time here and I was hooked when the owner was on top Chef! I love Jack rabbit Philly, so why not give this a try? Don't miss it because it can be hard to see, but just look for the big beautiful lions at the front door! My friend from Summerville and I met here because it's sort of halfway. It was both of our first times and we enjoyed it so very much!! My friend got the crab Rangoon fritters and the red rice with Yum Yum sauce. She took fried ribs home for her hubby. I got the shrimp, toast, sliders, side of Dan, Dan, noodles and fried ribs. I had enough food for three different meals! I would have to say my favorite thing of the day was the shrimp toast sliders! I heated one up in the air fryer when I got home and it heated perfectly!! The only thing that could've made it five stars is if we didn't have to grab a menu seat ourselves go up and order our drinks and go up and order our food and then wait! Although everybody was super friendly, it was a lot of getting up and down for both my friend and I who both have had recent surgeries also, maybe a few more options at the bar kind of standards like no OJ and no Kahlua. I thoroughly enjoyed my specialty drinks, but my friend likes very basic drinks. All in all we both agreed we'd absolutely come back and if the weather is nice, we'll sit outside next time. We didn't see the wonderful outdoor area until we were leaving. Great job great food great atmosphere. Kudos to the chef and owner!! read more
Enjoyed a lovely mocktail and some tasty bites at this spot near where we wee staying. Grabbed a menu and dove into a booth to decide on what to order since you order all at once at the register. Spot was super chill and had a bar area as well as some bigger booths. Loved the crab Rangoon hush puppies, Dan Dan noodles, and the mushroom rice bowl. Broccoli salad was a little too wasabi heavy for my liking but enjoyed all the unique menu items. read more
Yeah, it is very worth the hype. They've crafted a casual yet hip restaurant that makes you want to come hang at the bar all the time. The flow of the restaurant makes sense, the service is friendly and quick. The decor is super fun. Every time we hit up King BBQ we go hog wild with ordering: this time we got the duck/chicken (which we do every time), the corn pudding, collards, okra, noodle soup, and desserts. Not pictured: sake cocktails. The duck and chicken always totally rock my world. One time we got it to go and the skin was still crispy!!!! Yes, my mouth is watering writing this. Guys, I don't even like collards that much (yes I'm a shame to my southern heritage), but I devoured these. The noodle soup shocked me: crispy fried veggies that weren't soggy sitting on top of a delicious noodle soup? And the broth is super flavorful? I'm in forever. read more
King BBQ is a creative joint that serves Asian and low country fusion cuisine. Some of these flavor combinations were out of this world- the corn pudding being one of my favorites. Everything was made very well. My only critique is that the collards were a touch salty, but other than that I felt like these dishes capture Asian "mala" spice very well and had a great southern twist. Their drink menu looks so fun too, will definitely come back again so I can try them! The ambiance is great. During sunset the lighting in the joint is phenomenal. Service is nice as well- you order at the counter and they'll bring it to your seat. read more

Delicious!!! The chicken sandwich was fried perfectly and the bread and sauce completed it! The noodle soup had a hearty incredibly flavorful broth with generous amounts of perfectly tender and juicy chicken. We will be back to try the burger. I also see that they have happy hour foods which is refreshing to see in this town! read more

The food was delicious, and the flavors were truly unique. This is definitely Chinatown-style BBQ at its finest. My family and I shared the Mapo Cheese Fries, and they were so filling and packed with an incredible combination of flavors that left a lasting impression. My husband ordered the duck with Dan Dan noodles, and it was exceptionally tender and full of flavor. You could taste the seasoning from the meat all the way to the bone. My daughter had the soy sauce butter noodles. While they weren't her favorite, she's a very picky eater. I do wish the restaurant offered a few more kid-friendly meal options. The service was outstanding. The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to their customers-- ready to explain the menu and answer our questions. The restaurant itself had a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere and was clean. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and we look forward to visiting again. read more
King BBQ is a must if you're into bold, smoky flavors and crave something different from the usual BBQ spots. I ordered the Chinatown Delight and it was everything I hoped for -- juicy spare ribs, crispy pork belly, five spice chicken, duck breast, steamed baos and pancakes, plus three incredible sides. The spicy dan dan noodles and habanero duck sauce were standouts -- seriously next level. The vibe is casual but cool, with counter service that's quick and friendly. You order at the front, grab a number, and the food comes out fast and hot. Perfect for a chill night out or a weekend lunch with friends. I'll definitely be back to try sandwiches. read more
Great customer service! Extensive menu with great food options and very cute and happening ambiance. The reason for the 4 star rating is the quality of the hood served could've been more fresh. I went 20 minutes prior to closing, but if I'm paying full price, I'm expecting full quality like I hope I would receive at all times. Other than that, it was great flavors of the pork and the shrimp sandwich. I would order the slaw on the side next time. Be sure to check them out and as always, enjoy! read more

Incredible meats! The pulled pork was the best I've ever had. So flavorful and moist. Rotisserie chicken was delicious and so were the ribs. This place rivals Lewis BBQ in my opinion. The Bok Choy side was pretty oily and spicy and the Dan Dan noodles were quite spicy as well. But the meats were just unbelievable. Staff was all super kind. It's an order at the counter place. read more

Been wanting to check out this spot for a while since I'm a big fan of Jackrabbit Filly. King BBQ is located in North Charleston next to Wits End a Comedy Club. They have ample parking (always a plus!) The set up is a long bar that has a Chinatown vibe and booth tables. You order up front, get a number and they bring you your food. We lucked out and came during HH so we were able to try five different dishes~way too much food but everything was delish! Definitely recommend the pork sliders and the ribs. A great addition to the food scene in North Charleston! read more

This was my first time dining at this restaurant. I went during lunchtime right after they opened. Starting with the atmosphere and décor , the restaurant is nicely decorated and clearly reflects an Asian food concept, which I really liked. Ordering and payment are done at the counter. Overall, about 90% of the service is self-service: you choose your own seat, get your own utensils, napkins, and water. The staff mainly brings the food to your table. Food ordered: * Pork belly with rice * Duck noodle soup * Five-spice chicken The presentation was very nice and appetizing. The meat portions were quite large and served with bones, which is typical for Asian-style dishes. Portion sizes felt fair for the price. Taste: * The duck skin was crispy and the meat was not dry, which was great. However, the soup broth was extremely salty after about three spoonfuls, my tongue felt numb. * The pork belly had crispy skin and came in large pieces. * The five-spice chicken was also cut into large pieces, tender and not dry, but the sauce was quite salty as well. Regarding the soup containers: since I only ate a few bites of the soup and had a lot left, the staff at the counter gave me two small soup containers. When I asked if I could have one larger container instead, she replied rather bluntly, "I already gave you two cups." If I had been in a bad mood, I probably wouldn't have liked that response. A gentler tone would have sounded much nicer. Overall, the experience was good. The food quality and portions were good, but I think reducing the saltiness would make the dishes much better. read more

Food-wise, all I can speak to is the pork bbq. It was fine. Nothing unusual for a restaurant. Probably not great for a restaurant with bbq in its name. The iced tea was from a soda machine. Fine. Meal came with a bag of chips. Fine. I will readily say the bbq pu pu platter was enthusiastically devoured by my table mates. I did not join in so I cannot speak to it but I trust them that it was worth the trip. And my wife LOVED the shrimp toast sliders. So perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. Order is at a counter, table delivery. There is a bar area as well. Bathrooms were clean and large. It seemed there were a lot of regulars, they knew the staff. So I am sure they get repeats. If I am back in town and a friend asks for bbq, I'll research it and try to find elsewhere, but at minimum this is a safe choice. read more
