Since my off visit back in March everything at King BBQ has been back to normal and deserves my 5 stars again. I've been twice in two weeks, both on a Wednesday. I had the $10 burger and beer special the first Wednesday and today I had the fried chicken thigh sandwich dipped in the hot sauce. I was also celebrity chef star struck when I walked in and saw Shuai there! I recently went down the Top Chef binge watching rabbit hole and watched his season. It was super cool to get to see him in person in the kitchen instead of on my tv screen. :-) And as I mentioned the 5 stars are happily back in place as everything I've had has been delicious. This off the beaten path non traditional bbq place is a really unique experience. This was our first time trying King because we are big fans of Jackrabbit Philly. The process is a bit confusing as far as grabbing a menu then ordering at the counter then they bring your food, so we decided to sit at the bar where it's full service. The bartender was amazing. She had recommendations and let me try a drink before fully committing. We ordered the Golden Hour fries with yum yum sauce (amazing), the crab rangoons, pulled pork noodles and red beans and rice with chicken. The crab rangoons are not what you think of for traditional rangoos. They're actually hush puppies with a crab dip. The hush puppies are incredible and we just spooned the dip on top. Different but delightful. The pulled pork noodle bowl was a bit of a let down. It truly was just a heap of noodles and some pork. The pork was really really good, but I was surprised the noodles had no flavor and overwhelmed the bowl. The red beans and chicken had much more flavor, it was bone in chicken however the flavor was really nice. The drink menu is thoughtfully curated and crafted with some really unique options. We tried a highball and a frozen drink and both were really tasty. Next time I think I will order a BBQ plate so I can have more of the actual meat because it was really good, but I'm glad I tried something a little different. read more

This place is fire. I love what they have going on. Every single person walks in orders, the ribs, it's like a prerequisite for entry. It's pretty crowded every time I pass by and it's been on my list. There noodles are EPIC!!!!! For a minute and now I understand this is the best Asian fusion place I've been to thus far and I've been to about 5 of them, I don't eat pork so I can't tell you about the ribs. But I can't tell you that this chicken is perfect, perfectly seasoned. I can eat the skin all day. Their curry, corn pudding was the perfect complement to it. I don't understand the hush puppies and the crab Ragoon. With these prices, if you're going to make a crab ragoon it cannot be imitation crab LOL and these are not hush puppies. These are just fried circular sweet dough, this was a big fail, it was tasty. Butl a fail the shrimp sliders were a disappointment. Also, these little shrimp cakes are so filled with grease. And then you put 3 tons of Mayonnaise, all on one slider, it's like a highway to a heart attack. You can't tell the flavor of the shrimp cakes because they're so plastered in mayonnaise but I did notice it's the top seller here along the ribs but I can clearly tell that I will not rest until this whole menu is conquered. I will be back shortly to do so. I was looking at other people's table and food being brought out. And I got the stomach wets LOL,. It is definitely worth the trip. We're in the south and there's good BBQ everywhere. So I really appreciate King taking a different approach and constantly crushing it! Seriously, their Instagram page is legit food porn. But that's what you get when you take people from different cultures and different culinary backgrounds, and bring them together. I feel like the term "fusion" may be an understatement for them, as there is no single word to describe what they do. I adore this place! Went here for trivia and it was fun. I do love the $10 noodle deal and it was really good. The food came fast and they did an amazing job at explaining the menu to us since it was our first time. The inside was really cute. I didn't like some of the stuff there like the hush puppies. It was a little dry and the sauce it came with didn't really compliment it. It was a weird combination in my very honest opinion. Fusion Asian-Southern cuisine done right! This place came highly recommended, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The ambiance is casual with a subtle Asian vibe--nothing over the top, just a relaxed and welcoming space. We started with a Dragula (frozen sangria with cherry Coke), and it was perfectly balanced--not too sweet with just the right kick. For apps, the Deviled Krab Rangoon with crispy hushpuppy balls was a standout--creative and seriously delicious. The Mapo Cheese Fries are a must if you're hungry... easily a meal on their own and packed with bold flavor. I had the noodle soup with spiced chicken and a side of fried corn, and the soup tasted like pure comfort--rich, homemade, and full of flavor. We also tried the Sichuan collards, and even if you're not usually a collards fan, this dish might win you over. Overall, such a great experience. We had been in Columbia at City Limits BBQ (amazing!) when one of their employees told us about King BBQ and that we need to try it. We finally got there. It is the quintessential BBQ joint with a fun adidas flare. You don't know whether you're down south or in Chinatown. We started with some beer and ordered the hush puppies and fried ribs. It was a great way to start! They were both delicious. Three of us went with the pork combo and one of us had the duck service. I don't want to forget the sides! The sides!!! These may have stolen the show for us. The red beans and rice, the slaw, the Szechuan collards, oh my!!! One was better than the next! None of us were disappointed! This is truly an Asian take to southern BBQ. The food is great. What a great hidden gem! I know its been open for a few years now, but. I finally made it there for lunch. This place will not disappoint. Interior is casual with an Asian flare. Orders are placed at the counter and food delivered to your table. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got deviled krab rangoon dip with hushpuppies to start. Best hushpuppies I've had in a very long time. The dip was full of flavor and shredded crab. I got the jasmine rice with mushrooms for my main course. This was such a wonderful experience! First time here and I was hooked when the owner was on top Chef! I love Jack rabbit Philly, so why not give this a try? Don't miss it because it can be hard to see, but just look for the big beautiful lions at the front door! My friend from Summerville and I met here because it's sort of halfway. It was both of our first times and we enjoyed it so very much!! My friend got the crab Rangoon fritters and the red rice with Yum Yum sauce. She took fried ribs home for her hubby. I got the shrimp, toast, sliders, side of Dan, Dan, noodles and fried ribs. I had enough food for three different meals! I would have to say my favorite thing of the day was the shrimp toast sliders! I heated one up in the air fryer when I got home and it heated perfectly!! The only thing that could've made it five stars is if we didn't have to grab a menu seat ourselves go up and order our drinks and go up and order our food and then wait! Although everybody was super friendly, it was a lot of getting up and down for both my friend and I who both have had recent surgeries also, maybe a few more options at the bar kind of standards like no OJ and no Kahlua. I thoroughly enjoyed my specialty drinks, but my friend likes very basic drinks. All in all we both agreed we'd absolutely come back and if the weather is nice, we'll sit outside next time. The food was delicious, and the flavors were truly unique. This is definitely Chinatown-style BBQ at its finest. My family and I shared the Mapo Cheese Fries, and they were so filling and packed with an incredible combination of flavors that left a lasting impression. My husband ordered the duck with Dan Dan noodles, and it was exceptionally tender and full of flavor. You could taste the seasoning from the meat all the way to the bone. My daughter had the soy sauce butter noodles. While they weren't her favorite, she's a very picky eater. I do wish the restaurant offered a few more kid-friendly meal options. King BBQ is a creative joint that serves Asian and low country fusion cuisine. Some of these flavor combinations were out of this world- the corn pudding being one of my favorites. Everything was made very well. My only critique is that the collards were a touch salty, but other than that I felt like these dishes capture Asian "mala" spice very well and had a great southern twist. Their drink menu looks so fun too, will definitely come back again so I can try them! The ambiance is great. During sunset the lighting in the joint is phenomenal. Incredible meats! The pulled pork was the best I've ever had. So flavorful and moist. Rotisserie chicken was delicious and so were the ribs. This place rivals Lewis BBQ in my opinion. This was my first time dining at this restaurant. I went during lunchtime right after they opened. Starting with the atmosphere and décor , the restaurant is nicely decorated and clearly reflects an Asian food concept, which I really liked. Ordering and payment are done at the counter. Overall, about 90% of the service is self-service: you choose your own seat, get your own utensils, napkins, and water. The staff mainly brings the food to your table. Food ordered: * Pork belly with rice * Duck noodle soup * Five-spice chicken The presentation was very nice and appetizing. The meat portions were quite large and served with bones, which is typical for Asian-style dishes. Portion sizes felt fair for the price. Taste: * The duck skin was crispy and the meat was not dry, which was great. However, the soup broth was extremely salty after about three spoonfuls, my tongue felt numb. * The pork belly had crispy skin and came in large pieces. * The five-spice chicken was also cut into large pieces, tender and not dry, but the sauce was quite salty as well. Regarding the soup containers: since I only ate a few bites of the soup and had a lot left, the staff at the counter gave me two small soup containers. When I asked if I could have one larger container instead, she replied rather bluntly, "I already gave you two cups." If I had been in a bad mood, I probably wouldn't have liked that response. A gentler tone would have sounded much nicer. Overall, the experience was good. The food quality and portions were good, but I think reducing the saltiness would make the dishes much better. read more

Meal came with a bag of chips. Fine. I will readily say the bbq pu pu platter was enthusiastically devoured by my table mates. I did not join in so I cannot speak to it but I trust them that it was worth the trip. And my wife LOVED the shrimp toast sliders. So perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. Order is at a counter, table delivery. There is a bar area as well. Bathrooms were clean and large. It seemed there were a lot of regulars, they knew the staff. So I am sure they get repeats. I've been wanting to make a visit to King BBQ for a while now and for one reason or another I haven't been in. I remedied that mistake recently by stopping in randomly for dinner. We had a problem with our washer so after a marathon of doing weeks of laundry at the laundromat on reynolds, we decided we deserved a treat-yo-self dinner. When you come in you seat yourself at the bar or a table and then order at the counter. They give you a number and bring out your food accordingly. After scouting them for months on Yelp and Instagram, I had an idea of some of the must have items, but when I looked at the menu, it all went out the window. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, but there were only two of us. While we knew we'd be taking home leftovers it looked like the best way have it all was to order the Chinatown Delight and call it a day. It comes with spare ribs, crispy pork belly, the five spice chicken, and the crispy duck. Plus you get to choose three of their sides. We opted for the dan dan noodles, bok choy, and jasmine rice (only because the bbq sticky rice had just sold out). The whole thing also comes with steamed bao buns and pancakes too. This is definitely a lot of food. It would be perfect to share with 4 people and everyone would be satisfied, but ordering it for two people is not insane either. I don't know if I can pick a favorite of the meats because they were all delicious in their own way, but gun to my head and I'm saying the ribs. The chicken is really close up there though. For the sides the clear winner was the bok choy. I didn't expect it but we both really enjoyed it. Next time I'd like to try the chili crisp corn pudding too. The bao and pancakes were good to stuff and eat, but the flavors on the meats really speak for themselves so I only used a couple of them. The cocktails look great, but I wasn't in the mood so I order the Dancing in the Moonlight. It's a milk tea with chocolate popping boba... kind of a unique take on a fancy chocolate milk. Otherwise we just had water which they offer self-serve style by the counter. Everything came out pretty quickly and all at once. Luckily we moved from a two person booth to a four person because we needed the space for all the dishes. After finishing what we could, I grabbed some togo boxes and packed it up for later which all reheated really well. I can assure you that none of it went to waste. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu... the noodle soup and krab rangoon both eluded me on this visit so I'll be back soon. read more

This has the skeleton of a traditional bbq restaurant with meats and sides, but with an NYC Chinatown flare. For example: BBQ Spareribs, Duck Leg and Breast, Five Spice Chicken, Hot Pot Collards, Chili Crisp Corn Pudding. We had the chicken, spareribs, and duck. We also ordered Dan Dan Noodles, collards, and rice. The meats were succulent and flavorful. The greens were in the top 5 of all time for me. The rice was average and the noodles were tasty and some of the longest noodles ever. We were a bit disappointed that a few items were out but it was after 7 pm on a Friday during Christmas week. There is a full bar upon arrival while waiting in line to order food. You have to find a table and food will be brought to you. Additional items can be ordered using a QR code at the table. Came here for weekend lunch after seeing the Bon Appetit video on the two chefs. Super meal! Highly recommend and would come back. What made it so great? -Food. Bbq is delicious, and with a twist. Five spice chicken is great; never seen this before. Char siu pork ribs are flat out divine. We did not get any of the duck but that will be top of mind next time. Hong Kong milk tea was also awesome - perfect flavor balance with the different teas, not too sweet, and thankfully not super caffeinated!! -Vibe.
