We had just wrapped up our Angel Oak experience and from our extensive cellphone search, we decided on this spot because their menu on Google featured hibachi bites, sushi options as well as BBQ and some seafood. Welp, upon entering the big, very cold and empty restaurant, our server informed us that they only had the BBQ portion. This was a blow to my vegan friend so she only ordered fries. The fries were small, dry and looked like they were mostly the castoff end bits. I ordered 1/2 dozen chargrilled oysters. It was my first time tasting oysters this way and they were juicy and delicious and seasoned. I dropped 2 drops of hot sauce with 1 drop of their house sweet vinegar sauce. Yum but absolutely miniscule portions and why was the bread so plain? Could they have toasted the slices, please? Or given me a pat of some cool garlic butter or what not? For $18, I was starving. The woebegone fries were $4. Our server was friendly enough but not attentive nor helpful in recommendations. My friend had to walk and get him to bring our check. read more

Glad we popped in to try the newest iteration-- we miss the OG Blu Sushi / we're still okay with the Blu Hibachi/ but very glad they changed to the current Blu Smoke! The pulled pork was some of the best I've had (stand alone without sauce) in a while with a true wood smoked taste that wasn't as dry as the wood chips used to smoke it with! But, that Smoked Turkey though... it just might have taken the #1 spot for me personally! The Beef Cheeks were the stars in the beefy arena - tender and juicy! The smoked 1/2 Chicken was tasty too -- maintained the moisture but might have needed just a touch longer on the rotisserie -- it's a delicate balance with chicken getting it cooked all the way through but not drying it out. Ribs were VERY delish (I don't normally like ribs, but these were smaller & literally fell off the bone when I went to take one)... Brisket was a touch dry compared to the beef cheeks, so those would be the preference over the Brisket going forward. The sauces. Don't normally like vinegar but this was a sweet slight heat! Plus red (ketchup) and yellow (mustard). Mix em up! But try the meats before you slather them in the sauce bc they really don't need it! They need to improve on the sides, though - I'm GF and my BF has Celiac. Basically, all the BBQ Meats and BBQ sauces are GF... And from what we were able to eat sidewise, we opted for the potato salad (too much mustard & a very hard boiled egg, but still decent) & cucumber salad (overly marinated & pickled, but still okay)-- the bread & butter pickles with onion served with the meats were our palate's preferred pickle; the slaw, collards & beans are also GF, but I can't do beans either & we didn't really care for the slaw at Blu Oyster prior, so we leaned to the other veggie options. Also other GF options-- baked/loaded potatoes, salads w/o croutons, stuffed jalepenos, burgers/sandwiches without the bun/bread... We weren't offered the wrap option, nor shown the BOH notes floating around and we were steered in the proper direction for Celiac by Meghan. Also, technically, still GF, just have Cross-Contamination due to a shared frier and NOT safe for Celiac are the fried nacho chips... but we weren't offered those bc we mentioned Celiac. The Daisy Duke was really stellar; loved the dark rum, Dr. p & special cherry touch! Also, the Cadillac/Mustang Margarita? (The name escapes me but at the top of the menu) with a nice slow heat from the fresh jalapeno which paired nicely with the sweetness of the pineapple. Prices are a touch high, but would definitely go back for some tasty, smoky meats in the future, maybe to go. read more

The Daisy Duke is a refreshing adult beverage with Dr. Pepper, grenadine*, and Gasling's Dark Rum. If you are not a rum fan, a good alternative to the rum is Tito's Vodka. DOUBLE DELISH!! Service was great thank you Meghan F. Everything was sooo good. It is hard to pick a favorite of THE MEATS!! But my favorite was the BEEF CHECKS followed by the Brisket, Pork, then Turkey and Chicken. The sauces really surprised me. I don't usually care for Vinegar based sauces, but it was good by itself and also combined with the mustard sauce. Glad they take Walk ins!! read more

Recently converted from Sushi to BBQ, Blu Smoke Pit is a good addition to John's island. We still miss the old Blu Oyster before it shut down. They have an ambitious menu with apps, wings, tenders, and smoked plates but the only way to get a combo plate is to buy the family style meals. I had the beef cheeks, hash and rice, and potato salad. The beef cheeks were a good choice but the sides disappoint. 3 sauce options, vinegar, traditional sweet, and a mustard base. The potato salad was a traditional southern style with red potatoes and eggs. The Hash was a bit sweet and the rice was under cooked. Still working out the kinks so I will come back and update my review later. read more

Good menu. Good food. Clean place. Great bar for sports or casual meal with friends. The brisket cheese steak is DA BOMB.

So ... my wife and I stopped in to try Blu Smoke for the first time this week. We really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, it'll be our last time eating there. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The outside dining area is nice. The only issue for the (2) stars was the lack of quality with the food. We ordered some brisket, chicken and a burger. The burger appeared to be a frozen patty ... stale roll and not good. The brisket was just ok ... I specifically requested "lean" and the (2) slices were almost equal fat to meat. Lastly .... The chicken. I'm not really sure what's going on there. It was very dark on the outside and super dry on the inside. It appeared to be old. Had a very strange and unappealing taste that both myself and wife commented on to each other. Definitely significant room for improvement on food quality. There's WAY too many choices for bbq in the greater Charleston area to settle for poor quality. read more

First: The website is still Blue Oyster that prompts on a Macbook Air "Not Secure". Second: To-Go Ribs SLATHERED in sauce. Took two paper towels to wipe it off. "Half" rack? FOUR really fatty bones. Slaw? OK. "Brisket" baked beans? Run! Did not detect brisket but detect heavy Onions and Tomato slivers, would never order again. While closer, Swig and Swine and Home Team are better options Sad to to say, major disappointment. I will not go back and that's NOT what I hoped for. read more

My husband and I went there for the first time, not good, the food was lukewarm, it got cold before you could finish eating. The barbecue was too dried out, potato salad had no taste, cole slaw was too watery. Too many fees to have to pay for using a card instead of paying with cash. The waitress never filled my cup up with water. She had an attitude when I let her know I was being charged too much fees on top of the tax. After I said that she didn't say thank you, come back or anything. RUDE! We will not be coming back there. I feel y'all are not going to make it there. read more

This place is a disaster. Food was average. Clearly short on weight. There must have been a mass exodus of their servers because service was non existent. They're just trying to take advantage of not having any bbq on John's island. Beyond forgettable. Go somewhere else, anywhere else. read more

Im not usually a BBQ person but this place was great. Recommend the beef cheeks. My kids liked the arcade.

From Maine and have been to a couple BBQ joints. The staff, atmosphere, and ribs are by far the best!!!
