Stopped here for lunch for the first time with a large group after hearing great things about it. Even with our big party, we had no trouble getting seated - the restaurant is spacious, clean, and even has a side area for private dining. I ordered the patty melt with potato salad. The burger was fantastic, loaded with caramelized onions and mustard, and the potato salad was solid - though after tasting my girlfriend's mac n cheese, I definitely had some envy. My girlfriend, who's eaten here many times, went with her usual: a half rack of ribs with mac n cheese and fries. She loves these ribs. Any time we're not here, she's talking about them (and craving that golden BBQ sauce). Pro tip: don't skip the mac - it's unbelievably good. We also shared some onion rings, which were huge, lightly battered, and perfectly crispy. The golden BBQ sauce is a tangy vinegar-based sauce that's perfect for drenching your BBQ. The Alabama white sauce was another hit, great for dipping fries and onion rings. They have a self-serve sauce bar that was clean and well stocked, so you can help yourself. All in all, this will absolutely be a guaranteed stop any time we're in town.

My family and I went to Melvin's BBQ for dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had their chopped brisket with toast, okra, onions, and hushpuppies. It was mouth-watering delicious! I love their mustard based BBQ sauces! Coming here is always a treat and the staff provided excellent customer service!

This was my last stop on our adventures in Charleston. I could not say no to having barbecue because all we ate during our trip with southern food which I didn't mind at all. Now, my stomach on the other hand, maybe couldn't handle it, by my mouth loved all of the flavors. We were staying at the sleep Inn in Mount Pleasant and we really wanted some barbecue so this was the closest location, it had some great reviews. The minute we drove into the parking lot we noticed that they had a barbecue pit and when you see that you know the barbecue is going to be delicious. This is not your normal sitdown restaurant with a server you go ahead and order your food at the counter. By the way they also have a drive-through which is extremely smart and if you live there go through the drive-through and eat at home; if not eat at the restaurant because either way it's going to be delicious Each day they have a different happy hour or special and we went on Tuesday, which the specials were 50% off of the hamburgers and during lunchtime, they had a special which was the pork pan with one side. As we all know, barbecue can be really expensive, so definitely look out for these great deals. The minute you walk into the restaurant you were overwhelmed by the smells of the different meats and the barbecue sauces all around you. You're welcomed to the counter and there is a list of different types of dishes you can order from. We ordered the brisket hamburger chopped instead of sliced, and we ordered the pork slider, which were both delicious. Now when they ask you what side you want there's like 15 different choices so be prepared to know what you want. As someone from California our side usually include potato potato potato potato, so at this point, I wanted to have their collard greens. The collard greens were delicious. They had the right texture. They were the perfect saltines to it, and the tidbits of meat were great. The other side that we got with our main dish was the fried okra and oh my God is all I have to say. Get ready to have some really delicious food because in the middle of the restaurant you get all these different sides like pickled onion pickled tomato pickled peppers all that make the flavors of the barbecue really come out. I have never had Southern sweet tea before and oh wow was that a lot of flavor! My partner who is from the south said makes half-and-half go with the unsweetened and put some sweetened tea in it and that was a perfect combination. When I come back to Charleston and if I do, I'll definitely hit this place up because Melville's barbecue is definitely on my list of places to visit!

Ambiance: 5 nice rustic feel, like a high end barn. Service: minimal service as you order at the window and they bring you the food. Self service drinks, utensils, clearing table. The ordering process was fine though. Food: -- the hamburger was above average but nothing wow. 3.5. -- the pulled pork plate was really good. You can only get it covered in the mustard sauce though. Beware if you don't like that sauce, you need to order something else. The baked beans were good. The steak fries were great. Overall I'd give it a 3.75 -- there is a buffet of sauces, pickles, and peppers. Very nice. 5.0

Just posting pics of what we recently enjoyed. The double cheeseburger was mouth-watering delicious, with American cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. Little Joe pork also delish with mustard-based sauce. Cozy dining room with tables also outside on patio. Order at register, and they bring you your food. Clean bathrooms.

I get the 4 sides meal. Mac & cheese, bbq hash, sweet potato soufflé, and fried okra for $13 Awesome food The Mac cheese is the best in town Love their sweet tea too! Love the wooden benches and paper roll

Melvin's was great! They have a large menu with lots of options. My daughter went with the BBQ nachos and loved them. The meat had a nice smoke flavor and the beans & greens were both perfectly cooked. We didn't have to wait too long for our meal to be served to us after ordering at the counter. The large picnic style tables in the middle of the dining room make for a friendly atmosphere - we enjoyed chatting with the folks who sat at the table near us. We're glad we stopped in while visiting the area.

2 meat plate (pulled pork and smoked jalapeño cheddar sausage link) with 2 sides and cornbread

I wasn't too hungry, so I shared a meal with my husband. We ordered for pick-up via online through their website for a pickup ASAP. It was ready when we got there (about 20ish minutes later). We did the two meat plate (pulled pork and 1 smoked jalapeño sausage link). It came with two sides and cornbread. We chose fries (not pictured) and mac & cheese for the sides. Honestly, the fries were probably the best part. Whatever seasoning they put on it was so good, so I definitely recommend choosing that as a side. Everything else was decent. The meat definitely needed BBQ sauce (which they provide on the side).

My teen and I went to check out what some foodie boards referred to one of the best non smash burgers. Wow, now I understand some laughing emojis on the fb post when someone said melvins. It was not good - very greasy - my son left almost all of it. The fries were steak fries that also were bad. We didn't try the BBQ but big fat no on burgers. The staff was super nice and that place got hopping around 630pm but to each their own. I think the non smash burgers at Edmunds oast, Coleman public house, poes are the best we've had so far. Little jack was good but not $$$ for a mini burger good to go back. So for now we're sticking to the ones we like so far or making our own with the mix at ny butcher shop.

We had to try the Apple Pie shots since everyone seems to talk about them. This is way more complex than some apple flavor liquor. The ingredients take some prep work, and the result is something that literally tastes like apple pie. If they bottled this, I would definitely buy it. They have two specialty drinks, the Freshy and the Orange Crush, both of which are made with fresh squeezed juice squeezed right when you order. I had the Freshy which is orange or grapefruit juice with your favorite liquor. I chose grapefruit with vodka and even though I am not a huge fan of grapefruit the freshness and tartness of the drink made it quite enjoyable. My wife had the Orange Crush with Deep Eddy's O.J vodka, Triple Sec, Sprite and some of that fresh squeezed orange juice. It was nice and sweet which was good since we were ordering a lot of savory options. The Potato Skins arrived first and they were truly impressive. Good sized skins with the perfect amount of potato, not too thick or too dry and definitely homemade. They had mixed cheese, bacon and green onions served with sour cream also loaded with green onions. As far as all the potato skins I have had these were a standout. Next came the onion rings with an absolute massive serving for just eight dollars. You could tell they were homemade and served with a chili garlic sauce. The best part was the batter coating which was crispy yet didn't fall off when bent or bitten. They reheated nicely in the air fryer. Next, we tried the Toasted Raviolis which were filled with Italian sausage and served with a house made marinara. They were nice and crispy, but the true star was the marinara sauce which was thick and chunky with parmesan mixed all throughout. I wish they had more dishes that used this sauce as it was excellent. On the advice of some regulars, I tried the chicken fingers which were all breast meat, dill brined and hand battered. It was good advice since the chicken was juicy and tender with a flavorful coating. Sometimes it pays to ask. My wife ordered the thing they are known for their Philly Cheesesteak. She decided on double meat, and they were super generous to the point she looked at me and said, "I don't know how I am going to finish this!". This cheesesteak gets nominate for a lot of best of lists and I could see why. I liked that the cheese was mixed in with the meat and not just poured on top. She enjoyed it but said next time she will order it as is. This is a great place to hang out and relax and maybe catch a band or some bluegrass and enjoy a great meal!

All were perfectly prepared and ample sized. This wasn't a shrimp-and-chips drive-through; this was a meal. Our sides: Collards (this is the low country) and fried Brussel sprouts, again well prepared. Price: $38.25 and among the higher-priced items on the seafood-heavy menu but worth it. Others in our party, including two non seafood eaters, chose the pecan fried chicken (two breast with one each going home because of the size) with another going with the Carolina Duo of the chicken and short ribs. Will we return? Yes. There are other options we've yet to try as our visits to Charleston increase but this was a real treat. Even better, it is near the fabled Dingy beach bar where we ducked in to watch the Kentucky Derby. We could spend our retirement years at The Dingy but that's another review to come. First Visit to Husk -- Worth Every Bit of the Hype…read more After hearing so much about Husk over the years, we finally made our first visit--and somehow it still exceeded every expectation. Housed in a beautifully restored historic Charleston home, Husk perfectly captures everything you love about the city's charm. From the moment you walk through the doors, the atmosphere feels warm, elegant, and inviting. We were seated upstairs in a gorgeous dining room where the tables were thoughtfully spaced, making the experience feel intimate rather than crowded. The hospitality was outstanding from start to finish, but our server, Chris, truly made the evening unforgettable. He welcomed us with genuine enthusiasm and, after taking our cocktail orders, walked us through the menu--which changes daily. Rather than simply listing dishes, Chris described each one in detail, explaining the flavors, ingredients, and preparations with such passion that you couldn't help but get excited about every option. It's rare to meet someone who so clearly loves what they do, and his knowledge and personality elevated our entire dining experience. We started with the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo and the Woodfired Oysters. The tuna, paired with delicate slices of cantaloupe, sounded like an unusual combination on paper, but somehow it was absolute perfection. Every bite was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The oysters arrived warm, buttery, and perfectly seasoned--simple, yet incredibly satisfying. For my entrée, I ordered the Seared Diver Scallops served over creamed corn. I'll admit, I was hesitant because creamed corn has never been one of my favorites. But after Chris encouraged me to trust the dish--and after seeing how incredible the appetizers were--I went for it. I'm so glad I did. The scallops were perfectly seared, tender, and sweet, while the creamed corn was rich, fresh, and nothing like the version I had imagined. It completely changed my mind. My husband chose the Rabbit Roulade, which was cooked beautifully with just the right amount of spice to keep each bite interesting without overwhelming the dish. We also shared the Hearth-Baked Skillet Cornbread, and if you're debating whether to order it...don't. Just do it. It's absolutely worth it. Then came dessert. Chris walked us through several tempting options, including a mud pie, a watermelon ice pie, and a peach cobbler, along with Husk's house-made ice creams featuring flavors like Chocolate Peanut Butter and Key Lime Pie (plus a refreshing fruit sorbet). We settled on the Peach Cobbler along with scoops of the Chocolate Peanut Butter and Key Lime Pie ice creams. Every single bite was phenomenal. The cobbler tasted like summer in a bowl, while both ice creams were so flavorful and creamy that we kept passing them back and forth trying to decide which one we liked better. Spoiler alert: we never could. From the stunning historic setting and exceptional service to the thoughtfully crafted food, Husk delivered an experience that reminded us why Charleston has become such an incredible food destination. If Husk has been sitting on your "one day" list, consider this your sign. Make the reservation. Trust your server. Order dessert. And enjoy every single bite.

We arrived at 10:05am for our 10:15 reservation. The restaurant was 90% empty. Hostess told us she…read morehad to seat the 10:00 reservations first. No one else was in line! I asked again to please be seated and was told that we could go next door to the bar and wait. It's now 10:11 and I go back to the manager at the desk , ask if she would seat us. She grabs the menus and says OK I'll seat you 4 minutes early like she's doing us a huge favor. The food and service were outstanding. We will go back but owning 2 restaurants I never felt so unwelcome.

Had a quick lunch there. The restaurant was half-full when I arrived, at about 1:45pm. There was a…read moresmall shaded patio. For food, I tried the fried catfish entree and Green apple-cauliflower soup. Both dishes were good. The fish was very tender and juicy. The butter bean succutash, which I never had before, contained butter beans, black eyed peas, corns, green and red peppers and red onions. It was delicious but since beans are of high FODMAP, I only had a little. The fish was topped with tomato jam made with crushed tomatoes, onions and sugar. It was served chilled. Paired well with the fish and succutash. The soup was creamy, silky, and full of flavor from cauliflower. The pistachio added some crunchiness to it. The taste of "green apple" was not obvious; in fact I was expecting there to be some apple slices, which could add extra texture and sourness to this rich soup. I also asked for a side of sourdough. A bit too salty for me. The service was kinda slow, except that food came out in reasonable amoutn of time **after I placed the order**, that is, I waited quite a while to order my food. The same for doing the check. I guess it was because there were not many staff at lunchtime, and most of them were senior thus could move as fast as young ppl.
