This spot has a small counter seating area up front, with additional seating at the bar in the back. It is a pretty casual setup, but the concept is interesting with its Polish and Korean fusion. The food came out pretty quickly, which was nice. Flavor wise, everything we tried was really good, but the portions felt a bit small for the price. The pricing is more in line with a sit down restaurant, even though the experience itself is very casual. The short rib noodz was my favorite dish. It was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor, with a generous amount of tender short rib. Definitely the standout for me. We also ordered the pork belly bowl, which was excellent. The pork belly was super crispy and smoky, and the flavors worked really well together. I especially loved the pickled cucumber that came with it, which added a nice balance. Because there are only a few counter stools, most folks will order at the Kimski counter and head over to Maria's to eat their food alongside a delicious drink. The entire menu looked incredible! I opted for the pork belly bowl and it was fabulous. The pork was melt-in-the-mouth tender, and was so smoky and flavorful. The pickled vegetables and sauce were quite spicy, with fluffy rice soaking up the leftover goodness. I paired it with a seasonal cocktail from Maria's, which was very unique and tasty. A heads up that it can get a bit loud at times, but the extra chatter and music only adds to the fun. It's safe to say I will be back in a heartbeat to try more of the menu, and encourage everyone to do the same! read more

They have improved soooo much over the years! From being a small local bar to now a bar/restaurant, I enjoyed coming here from time to time to get a quick Korean snack and a drink. They have sooo many options to choose from when it comes to alcohol and a small snack menu. It's always a great time here when I visited. I've been to Maria's plenty of times and enjoy it for the most part. This time I was so hungry when my friend and I joined and I decided to get off the Kimski menu and as a vegetarian my options were a little limited but I got the pierogis and an order of basic fries. My order was $26. I thought that was insane, considering the portions were not that big. I also waited 25 min for my order and people who ordered well after me got food first. I'll also mention, the setup is weird because i had to leave the bar to go inside to order to come back into the bar to pickup at the back door. While that's not really the end of the world, it would have been nice to have it clear on where to order. I stood at the back door for a solid 10 min before I went to the front doorman of the bar and asked them what the process was. Needless to say, I'll be eating before I come to Maria's next time. Everything about this place is exceptional and refreshing. This is REAL FOOD, not some "made for Instagram and Eater Lists" hype spot that like many others, will fizzle out as the crowds move on to the next shiny thing with a line out front. Every bite was flavorful and delicious, but my favorite has to be the pierogis which were some of the best I've eaten in years. They perfectly embody the concept of this menu, a seamless blend of Korean and Polish flavors masterfully prepared without pretense. As far as cocktails go, The Mai Tai is a must as well when you visit. It's boozy, balanced and not cloyingly sweet like many you've had before. This place is great! Fusion Korean Polish food. The dishes are artistic and tasty and affordable. The food fills you up and you will have leftovers. The dishes are artfully done also. You can sit at the seats at both Kimski and Maria's which is a cool bar that looks like a tiki bar...really nice to have during winter when you wish you were enjoying the summer heat with cold drinks. There is also outdoor seating. The drinks at Maria's are beautiful and well crafted and has plenty of alcohol. Won, the owner was really friendly and personable and spoke w us and joked with us. He's funny and entertaining w his humor. He is the kind of guy you would enjoy hanging out with at your table to enjoy good food with drinks and conversation. Paige is great too! She is really sweet and helps explain the menu and super personable also. This is a fun place to eat and lounge at with friends. Kimski has done a great job amidst COVID, the side and back patio offer lots of seating, tables will seat 4, and the communal seating will seat larger parties! There are umbrellas available for tables to block the sun which is helpful for the hot and sunny Chicago days! Ordered the KoPo Beef and Maria's Standard along with beers: MARZ Jungle Boogie and Astronaut Juice! The KoPo Beef was very delicious, the meat was juicy with bits of fatty pieces and lean pieces! Everything was sandwiched together by this nicely toasted White Texas Toast type of bread! The fried that accompany this sandwich were perfectly crispy and flavorful! I added a sunny side up egg on my sandwich just to take it to another level! The Maria's Standard was yummy, but also just quite standard. The polish sausage had expected flavor and the pickled veggies on top was a nice touch, but I wish there was more of it to be eaten with bites of the sausage. This was a very unique dining experience. I have cheeseburgers quite often throughout the year from a range of different places. I could say the same thing about pizza. First time in my life I had a pizza puff burger though!! You read that right. On Wednesday Kimski serves a pizza puff burger. I ordered mine without the mayo. The structural integrity of the sandwich was tough to maintain. The very nature of a burger with pizza puffs in place of bread, I had not considered before. I was able to see and chew the pattys in between but from a flavor profile/blending point of view the taste of the pizza puff overshadowed the taste of the pattys. I've eaten here in the past before this. The food was good, but not as memorable as a pizza puff burger. I applaud this institution for showing creativity and invention with their dishes. read more

The head chef is an immature manchild. I came in yesterday to order food, and while I was waiting inside for my turn to order, someone came in to pick up their food because their order was ready. Now, Kimski has a policy where you order at the front, but when your order is ready, you walk around the side to the back, and pick it up inside. Since this person did not do that, the head chef flipped his shit. He yelled, screamed, and swore for 5 minutes straight. He said things like, "What a fucking stupid piece of shit!", "I can't believe people are so fucking dumb! I swear to god, if another person comes in the front, I will fucking throw their food against the fucking wall!", and a bunch of other things I can't remember because I was so shocked. I don't give a shit what your policy is. The person who grabbed their order was wearing a mask and wasn't rude--he made a simple mistake. The front wasn't crowded and it didn't cause anyone any harm. But this stereotypical chef with his toxic masculinity thought it was appropriate to go on a long drawn out tirade. What an embarrassment. Sadly, none of his employees spoke up against the head chef because it's clear he thinks it's okay to treat people like shit. When I first came here a few years ago, I loved the food and environment/concept. However, I was here last night for a pop-up that Herbivore was doing with Kimski. Herbivore was awesome, the food was delicious, and the employee at the front register was very nice. But after I ordered, I heard the Chef/owner Won Kim yelling at his employees/customers about needing to pick up their orders in the back rather than in the front. He was saying terrible things like "If one more person comes in to pick up their food in the front, I am going to (f word) throw their food against the wall" and insulting the respectful customers who were coming in with masks and picking up their food. The other employees look shocked, didn't know what to do, and didn't feel comfortable speaking up (for understandable reasons given the power inequality happening). Given the recent reckoning in the hospitality industry where chefs have been called out for their deeply problematic behaviors, I am shocked that this highly acclaimed and talented chef was yelling like this to his employees and customers. No one should have to deal with their boss yelling like this and customers shouldn't be treated this way because they accidentally walked in the front to pick up their order. The whole thing was absurd and I do not feel comfortable eating at an establishment where this type of behavior is allowed. What happened was unprofessional AND unethical. Additionally, they forgot about my order (people who ordered the same dishes after me had their orders given to them before me) so I went to the back window to check out what was going on after waiting for awhile and the guy said that "my order will come when it's ready" before I even had the chance to speak and explain that I think my order was missing. After I had persistently explained the situation, he went to ask around, and I believe they had forgotten about the order and just told me it will come out when it's ready. They didn't apologize or try to rectify the situation. The order came out shortly after I inquired about it but I am just disgusted with the whole situation. I get that mistakes happen, but I was spoken to in a condescending way when I am just trying to ask where my food is that I paid for. We really liked the food. My boyfriend (first gen Korean-American) and I love both Polish and Korean cusines, so we gave this a try. The Wangs were a tad bit dry, but we loved the building heat and crispy texture. The sausage plate was pretty good, as was poutine. The problem here comes with our experience. It was almost comical how bad the customer service was. Maybe they were short-handed that day, but the woman at the register (rainbow hair, hard to miss) was screaming at the chef and every customer who came in. Everyone was inconveniencing her. (I have a great therapist I can recommend!) But, we had driven fa ways to try this, so we stuck with it. While we waited in line, I cringed at watching her put her bare hands (after taking payments!) in the toppings containers to garnish the chef's dishes...this lack of basic sanitation is enough to not go back, honestly. It is not obvious what to do/how to order when you walk in, so we were asking a couple questions but were interrupted by her yelling at everyone else. We finally pay and walk to the back where the live DJ's music (or maybe just the acoustics?) was WAY too loud to sit anywhere in the restaurant or in the bar. So, we take seats on the front patio since it was a decent evening out. While we're waiting for our dinner, we went to the bar to order drinks. The bartender had to finish some deep conversation with another sitting customer before she acknowledged we were patiently standing there. The menus on the wall don't give much information, so I asked what one of the specific draft beers was like. She didn't know. They had about 15 listed, and I feel like that would be her job to know? I ordered it anyway since this whole experience had been a joke already, and I wanted to minimize interactions with the staff. We did receive our food pretty quickly, and like I already mentioned, it was pretty tasty. The figurative icing on the cake was when we were getting close to leaving. We were almost done with our dishes when that same cashier/food runner came out to clear some plates from another table. She yelled at everyone on that front patio, "I need to clean this patio off at 8 o'clock!" We all stared at her in confusion, so she continued, "I know it's 7:15, but just to let you know!" WTF. Opted to get food at Kimski and was confused about how I enter from Maria's...whether to exit and go through the main door or come in through the back. When I was looking over the menu, the man at the register could have been a little friendlier. I asked him how big the pierogi order is and whether it is an appetizer or an entree. He said there are 8 pierogis. I opted to order the bi bim bop since it sounded more like an entree. The price was a little higher than I would expect. When the buzzer indicated our orders were ready, I saw a beautiful bi bim bop bowl with the presentation, but the serving size seemed small for the price. Additionally, my friend's pierogi order looked to be fewer than 8 of them and more like a shared appetizer size than an entree. What a great idea to make Korean Polish fusion food! Both of which I love. I've been to Maria's Packaged Goods next door before but this was my first time trying Kimski and definitely not my last! We shared the Maria's Standard Polish, Ko-Po Beef Sandwich, and pierogis. All of them were yum! Maria's Standard - served on a delicious buttery roll, the polish was juicy and had a nice sear on the outside. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the mustard seeds, these were way too strong and overpowered the flavor and taste of the whole dish. The side of fries were good too but they were a bit lukewarm. I would still recommend this polish though! Ko-Po Beef - Yum! I really liked this one, it was thinly sliced ribeye with peppers, onions, and cheese....and gochujang butter! How can you not like it?? It was like a Korean take on a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich in a way. Piergois - Also very tasty, they were served with dill and chives and filled with potatoes and cheese. You can never go wrong with ordering these. They were out of the ddukbboki so I'm hoping the next time I come, I can try them! Everyone working here is really friendly and service is good. You order at the counter and thye give you a number and will bring your food out to you. I recently saw some delicious looking posts on Instagram and was intrigued by the Korean/Polish fusion concept. We made a trip down to Bridgeport to give Kimski a try. There were so many items on the menu that I wanted to order, but we decided on the Ko-Po Wangs, Dduk Bok Ski, and Kimski Poutine. While everything had great flavor, all three dishes were slightly overcooked--the wings were dry, fried rice cakes were very chewy, and even the fries were overdone. Maybe this was an isolated situation but I don't think we will be coming back. On a more positive note, the staff was very nice and they have a cool atmosphere. I had read about this place last year and was intrigued by the prospect of having both Polish and Korean food on the same plate. Despite being shorthanded and running out of the beef and pork belly dishes, Kat maintained her composure and professionalism in serving me and the other guests. I opted for and enjoyed the sausage plate, with three pieces of cross-scored Polish kiełbasy, soju mustard and Korean assorted sides, including two variations on zucchini. The special matcha ice cream pop was a fitting dessert. While I was disappointed that some of the dishes featured on the Yelp page were no longer offered (e.g. bigos), it's understandable that bar-friendly dishes such as pierogi and wings would have a better chance of staying on the menu, given Maria's is in the same building. It sounds confusing, but it's not really. You can go to Kimski or walk through the door in Maria's bar through the Kimski kitchen to order, and eat at Maria's. Anyway - Kimski is a delicious addition and the food is super consistent and delicious. There's generally much less Polish influence in many dishes, but you can expect items like soy sauce cream cheese pierogi and smoked salmon rice bowls, all very good. Really interesting concept. The #polishstinians wanted to venture out and try something different. We saw this on WGN's Chicago's Best and wanted to see if it was worth it. The Korean - Polish aspect really was interesting. So you have to order and take out or you can sit in the 6 seats they have available at the restaurant OR at the bar behind which isn't called Kimski, it's Maria's Packaged Goods. It's nice considering you can have a drink and some food. OK, I'm a little disappointed in the "fusion" aspect. They have Korean meals and they have Polish meals. But, they do not have any Korean-Polish meals. They do put kimchi on the beef sandwich and the polish sausage. But that's all I saw in regards to "fusion". They also have a kraut kimchi. My husband liked it and there was very little on my ko-po beef sandwich and my husband's Maria's Standard. They're also very pork heavy, which is typical for Polish food, so my options of meat were limited. The Ko Po Beef was good. It had the kimchi, and some cheese with the fries that had a kick. My dish was more polish with the, I'm guessing, Korean fries because they had a kick. We also ordered the Banchan Veggie plate. It had some sort of pickled turnips, kimchi, spinach and mushrooms. The pickled turnips were my favorite, then the spinach! The kimchi wasn't overbearing, either. Sometimes, kimchi can make people feel gross. I would like to see if I'm missing something with the fusion. I'm going to try their pierogies the next time I head out. We did want to try more things, so we will head back. They offer weekend brunch, so we stuck around for a few bites. We got their wings, French toast and the burger. The burger was a standout, it was delicious. Their fries were also nice and crispy. However, I was not a fan of the wings or the French toast. The wings were crispy, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce they used. It was too smoky for me, but my friends did love the wings. I was extremely excited to try korean polish fusion since I love korean food but haven't had too much polish food. The concept is interesting but I was extremely underwhelmed with the flavors and textures. We ordered - $9 Maria's Standard (House recipe, soju mustard, buns from Spoken Bird in Pilsen, Kraut chi made with Co-op, scallions, sesame seeds and side of fries): this was our favorite of the three but not something I would crave and come back for. -$8 Kopo Wangs (Smoked then fried responsibly grown wings dressed in a sweet and spicy house sauce): was average. I've had way tastier and tender wings. -$12 Pork Belly Bowl (Smoked pork belly, house made sweet and spicy gochujang BBQ sauce, chicharron crumbles, served with pea tendril salad over Rice): This was my least favorite. The pork belly was tough and not tender. I couldn't easily bite into it to separate it from the rest of the piece. The counter is located next to Maria's community bar which was cool. There are not many seats for Kimski but you can eat at Maria's if you're lucky to find a spot. We supposedly went during a special event so it was packed at 5:30pm on a Saturday. Fusion Korean and Polish? How would this work? These were the thoughts running through my head, but turns out Kimski does it "perfeckli." They have an expanded beautiful outdoor patio in the back, and a few tables and chairs out front. To enter the back patio, you need to go through the Maria's, to the left of the Kimski entrance. When you're ordering your food at the cashier, there is a mini drink fridge for non-alcoholic items, but all other drinks you'll be able to purchase at the bar (in the back)... that you'll access through Maria's. Kimski is def its own establishment food-wise, but layout-wise, more like an offshoot of the building next door. What we (party of 3) ordered to share: +maria's standard ($8): house sausage on soft roll w mustard, scallions, kimchi +veggie potskis ($7) +ko-po wangs ($8) +poutine ($10) My favorite was the Maria's Standard. Prices are on the higher side (compared to their sans-fusion version e.g. a $8 hotdog) which tends to be the case for fusion restaurants, but all dishes pretty much fall into the $10 range (and drinks are the same). Score. Pricier but not unreasonable. I had this lovely Marz brew on tap. The name escapes me now, but it was great for a Friday evening, soaking in the sunset and the change in sky from fiery to pitch black. Now the #vibes of this place. A wedding party (rehearsal dinner perhaps?) took up most of the back patio but it was adorable :) A chill bride-to-be in a casual white dress, a bunch of bearded men in gingham dress shirts etc. There might've been some suspenders worn within the crowd, but ya know, these peeps enjoying themselves beneath globe string lights: the type of crowd people take pictures of to post and/or print. More dining options are needed in this neighborhood, so I wanted to like it but... was not impressed. The portions are small, think of it as more of a snack or small plate rather than an entree. Their menu is limited with only a dozen items (and they were out of two of them). The four of us got almost everything on the menu and left much to be desired. The wings had a smoky and crunchy skin but the meat was flavorless. The meat on the potato pancakes was dry. The gravy in the poutine was too salty. The fried rice had too much soy sauce(?), it was much darker than other fried rice that I've had. One of the specials was a pastry with cream and red bean filling but the filo (the flaky part that sandwiched the filling) was hard and the cream didn't taste like anything. All in all, this is not a bad place and I wouldn't mind coming back. But there are better options. There's about a dozen seats inside and few tables outside. Horrible chicken wings. They were burnt to a crisp. As if they fried the wings over and over until it's sold. My daughter was able to easily break the bones because it's so burned and brittle. I'd say I very much miss Chicago's unique vibes and random cool gems in the many diverse neighborhoods. This is one of them. It's in Bridgeport which is a bit of a ways away from everything else. It's an order then head to the back community area. The pierogis are above average tasting but not many come in an order and the standard polish according to my friend was very good. The people are very chill here and it's not a pretentious or upscale vibe. Just a place to kick back and enjoy good food with a bar in the back. It's a bit loud but in a comforting way. I can't comment on the drinks but my friend specifically came here for them and she purchased from Maria's packaged goods after as well. read more

This Polish-Korean fusion restaurant is located in the back of Maria's bar. I really liked the food aesthetic - the use of purple pickles added both flavor and color! We ordered Maria's standard hotdog and had kimchi poutine. Both were tasty but the kimchi poutine definitely stood out to be delicious. The food is a bit pricey given it's portion size though.
