I went here after trying out other local places and was sad I didn't go here in the first place! The space has two floors, was immaculately clean and had many people working and no wait. The standard pedi used awesome product and the massage and polish was perfect! I went for the gel mani, and it was perfectly shaped and applied evenly. There was even a back massage while my nails cured with the top coat. I sprung for the $10/10 minute massage which was also so relaxing. Price wise, I paid $72 all in all, which I didn't think was bad (also opt for the membership and pay in cash - it's 15% off, and there is an ATM inside the salon!) I really try to write positive reviews and avoid negative ones, but this experience was so bad that I feel compelled to share it. If you go to Kim's Nails, please do not book with Olga. I went for the first time to have my gel polish and keratin treatment removed, and Olga clearly did not have the experience needed to do this properly. She filed my nails down so much that I could feel like there was barely any nail left, yet she still left patches of product on and kept filing to try to remove the rest. I repeatedly asked her to stop because my nails were getting painfully thin, but she kept insisting on filing more. On top of that, she couldn't file them evenly, and she cut my nails at completely different lengths. I have honestly never walked out of a salon in the middle of a service before, but this was so bad that I finally had to tell her to stop and leave after she had only done four nails. read more

The service doesn't equate the prices that are charged. Over priced salon and the technicians are not up-to-date with current styles. Furthermore, you can give them clear direction as to what service you're looking for and they will do what Service they feel is best for you. Not what you asked them to do. For example, if you don't want your nail length to be filed they'll file them anyway, and when you tell them not to do it again, they'll act surprised as if they didn't understand what you originally asked them for. I was charged $70.00 to remove color, then gel manicure with french design. This was a SCAM, as I needed two to work on my nails, because the first one couldn't get the french shape correct. read more

Hands down, worst gel manicure I've ever gotten. First of all, my cuticles are red and inflamed and my nails look ridiculous like jellybeans. And then to top it all off, my thumb nail chipped after one day. Her technique was awful. Instead of gently pushing my cuticles back with the proper tools she jammed at them with the butt of a nail file. Then she didn't even wipe my nails off before starting to paint them and they were still covered in file dust. She got up in the middle of the manicure to use the bathroom which has never happened before in all my years of getting manicures. Take a quick break before you start. Not to mention that a different woman that did my pedicure kept stopping and checking her phone. The place itself needs a serious facelift. A fresh coat of paint, take down the Christmas decorations and remove all the stray command strips all over the walls. I definitely wouldn't call this place clean by any means. First time here. Just got a regular mani to try them out. I was originally seated right in top of someone else which was weird bc the place wasn't that crowded. Then they moved me upstairs which was empty. My nail tech couldn't be less interested. Done in approx 15 minutes. She did not take new equipment out to do my manicure. In a town with a nail salon on every block, Kim's is by far the best. The staff are friendly and accommodating. They have recently renovated the entirety of the salon and it's very nice and spacious. I got acrylic extensions done at another local salon and they were extremely thick, misshapen and chunky. I have small hands so I'm careful with extensions not being too big on my nails. I got a refill and color change at Kim's and they did an AMAZING job. It's thin as can be. The shape is perfect and the color looks great. read more

Very poor experience. They didn't clean nail tools between uses and swapped out nail techs for both manicure and pedicure half way through. 5/10 nails bled. They didn't use correct technique when cutting cuticles at all. Didn't wash their hands between customers. I was seated in corner and desk my hands were getting painted on was covered with gel manicure machines so I was leaning over those the whole time. I've been coming to Kim's Nails for years now...although I've moved away from the neighborhood and don't visit as often, I recently visited to get some b-day pampering done in the form of an OPI Gelcolor Manicure and they are as good as they've ever been! Mr. Kim & his wife Sue, the owners, are super sweet and efficient at running this busy nail shop! If you are going on a Saturday, try to make an appointment or expect a wait. It's the best shop in Maplewood and the surrounding vicinity - I promise! Very clean, very fast...it's bi-level so on busy summer days expect the upstairs and the downstairs mani table/pedi chairs to be filled. There is a great deck upstairs so in the warmer months it's a great place to get the girls together for some group pampering before a wedding or a big event. The Kim's are super-accommodating so don't hesitate to ask. They give the perfect gel color manicure and have several brands of it to choose from. Also, unlike most nail salons, they use two UV dryers at a time on each client so the process goes very fast. They take their time and fill each nail carefully unlike some salons that leave uneven edges and glue drips. Their pedicures are phenominal. I never write bad reviews but I think it's terrible to practice your skills on a regular customer. An hour later into a regular standard pedicure, I had to tell her to cut my cuticles and to make the nails even. This is basic. With all the nail salons in the area you cannot do this. She was very nice but come on. Get it together. I will never come here again. Use people that you are training on yourselves. THEN they brought her over to try and teach her while they redid my pedicure. OVER AN HOUR! Again I've never written a bad review but this was crazy. I would gladly be taught on if it was free but to pay for this was ridiculous. Also we know that they probably pay very little to workers here and to put them in a position to fail on the job without proper practice is wrong. If you are looking for the best nails in town-- this is the place. In a town that boasts more nail salons than eateries (okay, maybe not quite --but we do have a handful!) This is the best. -- from mani/pedis' to waxing, to massages, they do it all and they do it well. Almost as quality as their work, are the clients who frequent Kim's. It's almost impossible to go there and not be included in an interesting conversation with a new friend you have just met there. It does get crowded, and it's not open on Sundays -- two things I wish we're different. But all in all, it is a wonderful, warm, salon and an addictive little treat that I rationalize by saying "and I'm worth it!" I've been coming to Kim's Nails the last 10 years or so for pedicures and generally enjoy them. There's rarely a line in this walk-in salon in downtown Maplewood and most of the staff members do a good job. Today I went in for a basic manicure. My nails are very, very short. I needed a polish that would keep for one week and asked for the advertised 1-week polish which is $16.00. To my horror, at the end of my manicure, I was charged $35 and told that Hana used the 2-week polish because the 1-week polish isn't good. If it's not good - why advertise it? I asked them to show me where the $35 manicure is listed - and it's not. That's not right. I paid, but told them I would never return here. With a 2nd nail salon just across the street - I'm sure their pedicures (and manicures) are just as good as Kim's. BE CAREFUL! read more

I came here based on these four awesome reviews expecting a pleasant experience. I have never been this disappointed with a nail salon before. 1. The cost was more than I've ever paid for a full set. $60 for just acrylic whereas online it said it was only $45. 2. After she was finished there was these weird spots all over my nails to which she said "this sometimes happens with acrylic". I have been getting my nails done for 15 years now and this was the first time I saw it. 3. When I asked her to fix it she was aggravated and rushed around and then disrespected me by saying I was late to the appointment that's why she has to rush now. I didn't even have an appointment! I called and asked if they could take me in a half hour and I was there in a half hour. 4. The girl was rude and I was so upset considering I'm a student and 60 bucks is a lot of money to me. 5. I have been a customer for about 7 years, Sue is wonderful, and her staff are all kind, careful, cheerful and caring. Never had a problem, infection, or oops. Will not be back. I came here for a manicure a few months ago and it was chipped and peeled three days later. Still, I decided to give this place another try and came here with my mother in law to get a manicure for a special occasion - which we told the manicurist. Overall best salon I've ever been to. I've been going to Kim's for years now (since they opened in Maplewood). I love the renovated decor, modern equipment and fixtures. They're clean, use autoclaved instruments and brand new nail files, buffers, etc so I never worry about infections. The nail technicians are all very good at what they do. To name a few, Cindy is by *far* my fave-- she's amazing at everything and is so sweet. Lisa does a to die for spa pedicure/massage (treat your feet if you've had a long day!), Kay is an excellent and fast manicurist, and Grace does beautiful natural nails with care. My entire family comes here for their nail care. I recently moved away and still have not been able to find a salon (currently in a major metro area) that offers everything Kim's does.
