I have been coming to French Nails about once a month for years. The place has a very friendly atmosphere. Every time I walk in the door, the manager, Nina, greets me by name. You can tell they really appreciate their repeat clients, and they give us a bottle of lotion every year during the holidays as a little present. They also recently adopted a membership rewards program that gives you a discount but to use it you must bring the physical card they give you when you visit. Let me just say their pedicures are amazing! During your pedicure you sit in a comfy massage chair that adds an extra touch of relaxation. The pedicures include a nice leg/foot massage both by hand and with a hot stone. This massage is honestly the best part of the pedicure and what sets them above any other nail place I have gone to. The nail technicians have always been really nice and ask your preferences like do you like your nails cut or filed and do you want your cuticles cut or just pushed. When you are done with your pedicure the technician even gives you a quick backrub while you are sitting at the nail drying station. I have never really had a complaint about any of my technicians, but I have had Belinda and Monica many times and they are always very thorough. The one drawback to this place is that the time you need to wait greatly varies. There are times when it is not crowded at all and I get seated right away. Frequently, when I go on Saturdays/Sundays the place is packed, and you might need to wait 30+ minutes for a technician to be available. Overall, I definitely would recommend that you get your nails done here, but I recommend that you come when you have extra time in your schedule and do not need to worry about being in and out quickly. If time is an issue for you, I would recommend that you call before coming to see if there is a wait or if they recommend you come at a different time. read more

I came in with my mother for a gel manicure and pedicure. During my manicure the owner stopped to take care of others three times just getting up and leaving me then in the middle of it made me go sit in the pedicure chair to finish my gel manicure. Having my reach over my now LARGE belly in an uncomfortable matter. When I asked why I had to sit in the pedicure chair she at first ignored me and spoke to another women in her language and when I asked again more angry she told me "well she is waiting for you to do the pedicure so she doesn't have to wait anymore" and then started to my feet. I visited this establishment twice and both times had horrible experiences. The first time, they made me wait 1 hour (even though i had an appointment). After making me wait, they told me that acrylic nails would cost $40. During the process they made me bleed and put acetone on my cuts to make it stop bleeding, which only made it burn. And then AFTER they finished my nails, they charged me $80 for the set, even though they had said it was $40 in the beginning. Today, 5/26, i booked an appointment. When I got there they would not allow me to get tips on my nails, and they made me wait 1 hour even though i had an appointment. All the while murmuring about me in another language. Because I couldn't get tips like i wanted, i had to get gel. I really was looking forward to this appointment and went with my friend. (I am asian and my friend is white) They assisted my friend and not me, making me feel as though the workers are racist. I will never come back. Most importantly, I have been getting my nails done for 20 years and I have had everything from gel to acrylic tips to SNS done. Nothing ever lasts. She was rude to me when I questioned something she was doing and then started talking about me to the owner while I'm sitting there still getting my nails done. I have been serviced by 4 different nail salons. By far New French Nails is far superior. I was greeted with courtesy. The place looks clean and presentable. The pedi chairs are in clean working order. Now let's get down to what draws me to want to go back over and over again. Belinda and Mary my nail techs. The warmth of Belinda's smile and the wonderful conversation had me feeling not just a customer but someone who is interested in her customer. Mary gives a foot scrub like nobody's business. Was in dire need of a pedicure and had limited time in my schedule so I decided to stop by during my lunch break. I called ahead and they told me to come in at 1:30 PM. Once I got there, I had to wait about 5 minutes before someone became available. I got unlucky and was given someone who clearly did not want to do my pedicure let alone be there at all. How do I know this? Maybe she didn't realize that I am Spanish-speaking but she proudly exclaimed to her co-workers that she was in no mood to continue working and if someone else wanted to do her work for her (in Spanish). Her attitude clearly matched her work. She barely cleaned my cuticles. The polish was sloppy as I had some polish surrounding my nail on the skin. I was there for nearly an hour for a poor job. People appear to rave about the massages they give but I'd gladly skip the massage if they focused on what's really important: nail care. Stick to working on nails as it's in the name of your establishment and skip the spa-like massages. read more

I would give them a five but there's never consistency with who does my nails. Today I went to get a regular manicure, even though I usually get a gel manicure and am satisfied with them. Today, my manicure was less than acceptable. I shouldn't have paid but I didn't feel like wasting time to get it fixed because I have other things to get done today. To say the least, my nails aren't even, they're different lengths as well as rigged. You can see all the lines on my nails from her scratching all the gel off my nails. I've been coming here on and off for years. Now I only come when I'm in a jam and need a polish change. The Spanish girls don't really want to provide a quality pedicure I do not need a foot or leg massage I need the hard skin on my heals and toe removed and an even polish job in my feet. The only thing thing these girls want to do is dunk your feet in some water then slather them with cheap lotion. Their application of polish on my toes is their ONLY saving grace. It is always neet but they only apply two coats while most other salons in the area apply three. Once upon a time this was the salon to patronage. With the past two years there has only one girl who actually took her time with your feet and I enjoyed my time in the chair. There is one manicurist, Sara who I actually like the others never provide a lasting gel manicure. read more

I don't live in NJ anymore but I will allow my mani/pedi needs get borderline scary in order to go there when I visit NJ. The real secret treasure to this place is their pedicure. For $20 you get a fantastic pedicure with a 30 minute foot massage! First, they use a a fruit infused scrub for 10 minutes, rinse, then a fantastically smooth lotion for 20 minutes, then warm stones. Just as the previous reviewers said before me, this place has started lacking quality, therefore I have stopped coming here. For starters, the last few times I've been here for the OPI axxium soak off gel manicure, the prices has gone up, because the owner attempts to rip you off, point blank and simple. Also, the last gel manicure I had the owner did them, and it was pretty shoddy work. They ended up looking like fake thick acrylic nails because she applied the base coat(the $6 dollar supposidly special base coat") too thick. Afterwards I was informed that the price has gone up from $29, to $35, to $40. DEF NOT WORTH IT! I also was not a fan of how they filed the color when you come in for a color change(they are called soak offs for a reason). I didn't wanna damage my nails anymore, so I stopped getting them. I also use to come here for the pedi's as well. When I first came two years back, they were hands down the best pedicures I ever had, especially at 20 dollars. But the last pedicure I had here, wasn't as pleasant, the water was cold with no jets, I felt rushed and and the workmanship was nothing to brag about really. The lady doing my pedi must have mistaken my legs for punching bags as well, OW lady! I have sadly stopped coming, and last week I found a great place that is 20 mins away from my workplace that did the OPI axxium soak offs, and I have been so happy and relieved that I finally found another place that did them at a even better price then what french nails charged and I'm happy with the results and my nails aren't damage :) With all that said, 2 years ago I would have recommend this place to anyone but for present, there are better nail salons out there where you can get more bang for your buck. read more

I've been a customer for 2 years and it used to be a pleasure getting a mani/pedi but I've decided to go elsewhere since my last 2 experiences when Kayla (the owner) overcharged me for the same OPI gel manicure I get every 2 weeks. The overcharging happened after I tried somewhere else and came back to French Nails. I tried somewhere else because my mani/pedis at French Nails became rushed and I was passed down from the more experienced gals to the newer ones. Even when I brought this to Kayla's attention I was still put with the new girls. Quality went downhill. When I asked her what happened to the price, Kayla smiled and said nothing - I didn't fight her because I hate confrontation. I called later to ask what the price was in case it went up and I didn't know but I was told by Kayla's daughter (who answered) that the price hadn't changed. Weird. The first four chairs do the best OPIs around, no question! However, I don't want to be overcharged, nor do I want to deal with the snide comments made by the owner while I get a manicure from a less experienced member of her team (this only happened after I went somewhere else - very uncomfortable). Pedicures were also great but recently, maybe because of the additional number of chairs put in, they're not as good as they were for the past few years. Hands down best pedicure I've ever had, and I've had a lot of different pedicures, from a lot of different places. $25 for a pedicure and manicure (at least on Monday - I don't know if their prices change during the weekend). My pedicure was 20x better than a $75 spa pedicure I once had elsewhere. They really, really take their time with the pedicure and it's amazing. A lovely massage, hot stones, and all. I got a manicure as well, and it was a dry one (no soaking involved), and felt rushed. I was also cut. I may not return for the manicure, but the pedicure is a must, must, must! Nice selection of polish colors. I didn't really like that when I walked in, I just kind of stood there for a few minutes until someone actually helped me, and then I was kind of tossed between a few different people even though I had an appointment. There are two things that really turn me off when I go to a mani/pedi place and this place did both. One, they didn't soak my fingers to soften the cuticles nor did they have me wash my hands after filing/cutting. Not sure about you, but that makes me feel kind of gross. Two, they did my manicure while I was in my pedicure chair -- I felt quite rushed as a result. A couple of other things to note, they used quimica alemana for a base coat which I suppose is a good thing since its supposed to strengthen nails but I ran three cycles of the dryer and still managed to nick and smudge a few nails about 30 minutes later. Not sure if it was the quimica or the top coat though. They did do a good job pushing back and cutting my cuticles but I did get nipped with the cuticle cutter a couple times. One of which drew a little blood and there was no disinfectant applied. Overall, the mani and pedi themselves look pretty good but service, attention to detail and cleanliness were lacking. read more

This place has the best pedicures in the area. You get two leg/feet massages, a hot stone massage, and a shoulder massage while you're feet are drying. How much does all of this cost? You might ask...$20!!! The ladies who work their are so thorough and pay attention to detail. They carry mostly Essie and OPI brands. So you know you're not getting the cheap polish that will chip as soon as you leave. My pedicure always lasts for two weeks to a month. Unfortunately, I don't have the same review for the manicures. They seem to do good gel manicures, but they are a bit costly. I believe it's $28 for a basic gel manicure. The regular manicures are dry manicures. They do the bare minimum, nothing special there. They have a special from Monday through Wednesday where you get a mani and pedi for $25. The manager can be a bit on edge, but she doesn't bother me. She might seem a little obnoxious for some. I've been coming here every 2-3 weeks for over 4 years to get gel fill ins / full sets - with color, of course - by Jacob, tipping him 25% or more (if I ran late, for example) and giving him annual year-end bonuses. I'm finally writing a review because for the umpteenth time, I was treated unprofessionally. In the past, I chalked up their occasional inability to understand how appointments work or Jacob's sorta snarky comments to being busy, having an off day, whatever. He is pretty good, and that's not an easy find around here, so I just dealt with it. Friday's experience, though, was utterly crazy; it was the last straw, and I'm never going back. After noticing what looked like a couple of jagged edges, I asked Jacob to file/neaten up two of my nails. He told me that the jags were actually my skin. When I didn't understand, he explained that since I'd asked him to shorten those nails, he'd filed them down to the skin -- and he said this in the most nonchalant way, as if any normal person would want the same thing, when in fact, it looked RIDICULOUS to have bits of skin showing out under my nails. I said that since he's the expert, I would hope he'd warn me before filing off that much. His response? He literally mocked me, saying that since I'm always asking for "nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah," (his interpretation of me asking him to keep my nails short), today he decided that he would just keep filing, so that I'd see what would happen if I didn't let him decide my nail length. His point was that he was trying to teach me a lesson! I couldn't believe how rude he was being, and that no manager was intervening. At this stage, I had to let him finish the service, so I stayed calm and got the hell out of there. I left him less than half of my usual tip. Wish I'd left $1, but oh, well. I'm sure he got the message. And the sad thing is, he probably does not care one bit. This is how French Nails -- and more specifically, Jacob -- will treat loyal & generous customers. This used to be my go to for several years. With new management, they have gotten progressively worse and worse. Now every time I go, I just leave angry so will not be returning. Nina who is the manager? is nasty. Not only is she not polite but she also cannot give a gel manicure to save her life. Their pedicures used to be good but that also has changed.. they don't remove dead skin and don't massage much any longer either. Their gel polish is old and chips quickly. After losing a few people that are good, for gel manicures.. I continue to leave with wavy / uneven polish. Ok let me start by saying that I read all the reviews on here, so maybe my expectations where elevated to unrealistic levels. I guess in my mind I imagined cherubs singing and dancing, and unicorns galloping in the wind, as I walked into this place... didn't happen. In fact I stood by the reception area for a good 5 minutes, realizing that none of the employees were going to say hello or ask me what I needed, so I finally said "excuse how long for a mani/pedi"? I was seated pretty quickly after that, but didn't find the staff particularly friendly but not rude either. The pedicure was definitely solid, and as everyone has mentioned they take their time with it and don't rush you. Feels very good when they're doing the massage and hot stones. My manicure was good too, although it was a dry mani, meaning they didn't soak my hand in any water...there was no water to be found at all for my mani. Wendy who did both my mani/pedi was very meticulous and did a good job. This place is good and incredibly cheap considering what other places charge. However don't go here thinking you'll be treated like the Queen of England, like I somehow conjured up in my mind that I would be. it's def worth 25 bucks, and count yourself lucky if you get a hello out of lady up front! This place used to be my go-to, but it's totally gone downhill in the past few months due to change in ownership. First issue was that they gave me flack last time when I said that I didn't want to have my manicure done at the same time as my pedi. It's not relaxing and they don't do as good a job as when you're sitting at the table. They said I had no choice since it was so near closing time...it was 5:55 and they close at 7. Yesterday was the last straw. Got there at 5:45 and they (the Owner) said they couldn't take me period. I asked why and said that I've been coming here for years and never been turned away. Anyhow, truly the best regular pedicure I've gotten in a long time. I can only imagine how their spa pedicures are. DIVINE! Now onto my manicure. Sadly, it wasn't the same woman who did my pedicure. SMH! It was someone else and she was just a hot mess. I had gel on that I had to remove and she literally rushed to peel them off; barely soaking them.
