Had a positive experience here today. I had a regular manicure and a pedicure. The manicure was pretty average -- neatly done but I don't expect it to last a whole week. The pedicure was by far the best pedicure I've had in a long time. Needless to say the manicure was done by who I believe was the owner and the pedicure was by the other lady who works there. Saddened to have to write this review, but this morning, while the owner was gone, the two women working the salon in her absence acted totally unprofessionally. I had a 9:30 appointment. Two girls are working there. As I'm walking in at 9:30, Girl A shoves past me to go outside. Girl B is doing a pedicure. Neither welcome me, don't say a word to me. I say "Hi- I have an appointment -is the owner here?" Girl B doing the pedicure snarls rudely, "She'll be back!!!! Have a seat." FIFTEEN MINUTES GO BY. Finally Girl A who will be doing my pedicure and mani comes in holding a coffee and bagel-- doesn't say hello, doesn't explain where she was or that she's sorry for the delay and starts talking to Girl B in Spanish like I'm not even there. I say, exasperately, "Hi - I'm your customer. A hello would have been nice. I've been waiting for 15 minutes." She ignores me and comes over to start doing my pedicure. I don't speak Spanish fluently but I understand it a bit. During the pedicure, Girl A doing my pedicure turns to Girl B next her, shakes her head, smirks... and calls me a "P*TA" and laughs. Which is a massively offensive name in the Spanish language, akin to "c*nt" or "b*tch." I immediately give her a stare to see if she will apologize - Girl B realizes I understand, and goes quiet, but Girl A does not seem to catch on. I wait for pedicure to be over. Girl A, who called me a "p*ta," tries to get me to come over for my manicure. I tell her I understood what she called me and that such remarks are unacceptable. She sort of apologized, but played dumb. I left without the manicure. I did tip the girl even though she insulted me in Spanish because I felt like she probably needs the money more than I do, but this is outrageous. ***I did call the owner, who came in at 11am, and she was very apologetic and thanked me for calling.**** There are TONS of nail salons in Cranford and Garwood. Don't know what those girls were thinking being so rude. I just moved to town and I'm not used to this kind of treatment. read more

Made reservations for mani/pedis, but still waited 30 min along with two other friends. The pedi was ok; water initially was too hot, then it became cold as I waited 15 min for the tech to return. I like the scrub they used which had large, hard granules. The lotion was also a nice, lemony scent. The warm wax on the heels was a nice touch. The massage part was worthless, though this is usually individual dependent and I don't know the name of the nail tech I had. Mani was awful. Poor technique with "cutting" my cuticles, which were actually nipped and pulled instead as if she were tweezing them. And she also cut too much and I jumped several times from her cutting my skin, and I am still healing from being essentially cut on several fingers days later. I'm not from Cranford but won't be returning here in the future when we visit. read more

My teen went in with gift certificates for a manicure today, told them ahead of time she had them. After a basic manicure she was told there were new owners & they won't honor her certificates which were worth $35. They were confiscated & cut up. She had to call home for money. I came and paid, they refused to return the certificates to us. So we're out the $35 they confiscated and others worth $40 she didn't bring and won't be able to use. read more

So had to wait 25 min for a nail appointment ..fine. I got my gel nails refilled and I got a manicure. This usually ranges from $30- $45 . She did good,but when it was time to pay she charged $75!! I was incredulous and asked why. She said the color she put on me cost $35! I did not ask for special color and she did not tell me it would be $35. There were no signs. This is ridiculous! I don't get my nails done super often, but pedicures in summer are a must. I popped in on a Friday night --admittedly -- without an appointment. Needless to say they were swamped. Instead of saying hello when I walked in (which they always manage to do when the place is looking empty...), I get angry stares from each employee. Finally, one girl looks up and mutters something along the lines of "no time." She says it angrily and looks back down. I walk out. So, I drove to the place in Garwood that has about a dozen or more chairs and lots of friendly faces that don't seem completely put out even though their busy. Not sure what happened to Top Nails. Maybe understaffed. If you value pleasant experiences (or just plain human decency), I would avoid this place for a bit. read more

I had been going to Top Nails for over 2 years for a pedi and gel fill and was very satisfied. I went in for my regular visit to find that they are under new management. My pedi was awesome as usual but my gel fill was horrendous, she cut my nails way too short and then filed the gel so far off my nails that she filed my mail off too on two of my fingers. I'm new to the area and needed a pedicure badly. I don't usually enjoy all the massaging that comes with it, but wow. This girl new what she was doing! My legs felt like jelly afterward, she was thorough and attentive. She even massaged my shoulders while I was under the dryer! Polish job looks great, I can tell this pedicure will definitely last. Let me first state that the service received is not the issue. I was a client of Top Nails for some time. I've gotten mani/pedis, my daughter has gotten her nails/toes polished, and I even brought my brother for a pedicure once. The service was great which is why it saddens me that the owner did not value me as a client. This past Saturday I went to get mani/pedis for my two step daughters, a pedicure for myself, and my 11 year old daughter was simply getting her nails/toes polished. The owner told me it would be better to come during the week Monday through Friday as there are specials during the week. She stated she would charge $10 for my 11 year old daughter and $20 mani/pedi special for my stepdaughters. She wrote down the service in the appointment book and we were set for Monday morning. Unfortunately, I had to reschedule and was rescheduled for Wednesday. I called on Tuesday and asked if we could come in and was told to come at 1:30. The owner told me to bring cash, so I dropped the girls off went to the ATM and returned. Apparently, even after my daughter told the employee she was just getting her toes polished, she still did a full pedicure on an 11 year old. Well, when it was time to pay, the owner said the total was $103. She was charging me regular price for EVERYTHING! I was shocked by this as she was the one who said she would give a discount during the week. She then says "that was only an Early Bird" special. I reminded her of our discussion and that she NEVER mentioned anything about an Early Bird Special. She said during the week, Monday through Friday there's a mani/pedi special. Had she said Early Bird Special, I never would've agreed to come in at 1:30 and would've just gotten serviced the Saturday we were initially there. Needless to say, I will not return to Top Nails again. I will not bash the service as it was not bad. The older Korean woman was a little rough with my stepdaughters nails, as she cute into her cuticle too deep; aside from that, the service was good. The owner is just a liar. Her employees missed out on a tip that day because the owner lied about offering a discount. This is extremely disappointing as I frequented this business often. I went here on my lunch break since my co worker always go and I have to say I have never been in such a rude place before. The owner couldn't even bother to lift her head when I walked in and the two women doing pedicures turned, looked at me and turned back around. I will say that the pedicure was ok, the girl was thorough however, I have had better and with a mani-pedi special at other salons. As my pedicure is drying 5 other customers come in and are addressed the same way I was and they sat for a few minutes and left. As a business owner, I don't see how you could afford to lose 5 customers in the hour I was there, who knows how many in throughout the day. Pedi was great and thorough. Mani was neat and I wish the staff wasn't a bunch of morons. Waited for 20 minutes to get started on mani pedi which was fine. Then after my pedi they said I would have to wait for mani because there were others with an appointment that have come in. Um what? They clearly have no time management or customer service skills. Nobody speaks English and didn't even make an attempt to apologize for the inconvenience. Also the people who made appointments weren't taken on time anyway. I live right across the street so to say Top Nails is convenient is an extreme understatement. I've been a handful of times and their $20 pedicure is usually worth it. I would probably still go back for that. But today I went in just for an eyebrow wax and I have never left anywhere feeling such disappointment. This woman completely butchered my brows. I know they say eyebrows should be sisters, not twins, but after what she did to mine, they can't even be considered distant relatives. They are entirely two different shapes and sizes and one of them is missing so much hair where I know I used to have plenty. I'm beyond upset, and the worst part is that I know this woman knew she messed up because she spent a few minutes trying to fix them while I was sitting up, which has never once happened to me before in the 10+ years I've been getting waxed. I could definitely go across the street, yell at her and probably get my $10 back (8 plus tip), but instead I'm posting this one star review. I recently moved to the area and have driven past Top Nails a few times. I decided to stop in for a manicure. Although I did not have an appointment, there were 3 women sitting around doing nothing. I was told to sit at the station, and rather than saying hello, the nail technician kept reminding everyone that she had a color gel appt in a few minutes. She spent about 1 minute filing my nails followed by other minute harshly cutting my cuticles before telling me to go wash my hands. My nails are uneven and poorly polished. I finally found a great nail salon. My cousin and I were walk ins and decided to get Gel Mani's and a pedicure.By far the best salon I have been to in a long time. They were very clean and friendly. Kelly did a wonderful job on my nails. The girl who did my pedicure was amazing as well. Their pedi's include the paraffin treat ( which is amazing, bc most salons I have been to don't) They definitely take their time so you can relax and not feel rushed.
