Good local breakfast place
Ronald E.

The "Mexican scramble" was excellent. Very flavorful and well prepared. Love it when the eggs are moist and NOT brown, The chilis were tender and mild and the onions translucent and soft. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Both waitresses were playing across all tables, love it when that happens, it indicates good management. A very pleasant outing

My parents love it, they went few times in two weeks. The whole restaurant has a homey vibe, it's warm and lovely. Kinda give you a feeling of the 70'. The food test pretty good too. My dad said the steak is very tasty, but the day I ordered, it's a little bit overcooked. However, the whole experience is great!! I love it and would definitely visit again!

Dry patty...

I ordered the country style patty and eggs, I regret it. It wasn't worth the price and the taste, it was so dry. I'll make sure to NOT order any patty or sausage items.

Usually I would go to the fullerton kimmies on Commonwealth, but tried this location in Brea. I was a little disappointed because ive found that the customer service has spiraled. I walked in with my mom, the lady says 'ohh, for two, ok you can sit there, pointing and not leading us to our table, so, we sat. She was at an empty table didnt look busy and didn even turn around after we sat down. The food was good, patty very salty but if you like salt(like I) its good. Another server came to assist, very nice, young girl, it wasnt until I asked who that other lady was, that they attended to us, the rude lady's name was Leah. While waiting for our food, Leah, welcomed customers (that looked like regulars) with a welcoming " Hi how are you, when did you get back from vacation". Like, we didnt get that welcoming. I did notice that the ethnicity she was welcoming were white vs my mom and I being mexican. While another customer came in, she also told him to sit at the counter, and she tossed the menu to the gentleman. Being a resident in fullerton my entire life , I have noticed a change in customer service in fullerton and now in brea. I wouldn't go again. However, the food was decent. Remember, customers are the reasons your business, we would appreciate that customer service is consistent with all customers not just being selective.

Came here with my girlfriend's family and as we rolled up on it, I knew I was in for an interesting visit. We walked in and it was an old-school cafe that looked like it used to be an antique store. It didn't have that smell, it just had that look that I've become accustomed to. Getting to breakfast: I chose to try the chicken fried steak and eggs, and i continue to look for the best one. This wasn't it, but it was good, crispy, good flavor and hash browns and eggs were good too. The Sourdough bread was really great, plenty of crunch and buttered perfectly. My girlfriend had the breakfast tacos, with freshly made salsa and sour cream with hash browns. She ate all of it and enjoyed the tacos. She took a slice of my toast and was happy as well with that aspect. The food came out fast and three different waitresses looked after us. I liked that it was a team effort at what i assume is a family run chain.

I ordered an avocado toast (like their namesake) with smoked salmon on top and it was delicious. There was a good amount of avocado and smoked salmon. The hash browns chips were so yummy it deserves its own paragraph. If you are a fan of crispy fries, this is it. I loved to each these chips with ketchup and some Tabasco sauce. I found myself disappointed there weren't more hashbrown chips, not because I wasn't full, but because my taste buds wanted more!

Love this place! Wish we had one in the Bay Area! We visited from out of town and chose to eat here…read moretwice. Ambiance is bright and - lots of natural lighting from the many windows and the table tops have a white marble look to them. The first thing you do is grab a menu and have a seat, then you get up to order at the counter when you're ready. They seem to use rice flour for their pancakes, waffle, and fries chicken, which makes for a fun, different, and enjoyable texture. The lattes were nicely made - not too sweet, with a good balance of espresso and whole milk. The only thing I would change is to ask for scrambled eggs on the croissant sandwich. It was difficult and messy to eat with a sunny-side up egg. Can't wait until our next visit! Please, someone open one up in San Jose!

Popping Yolk Cafe is a cute and fun place for brunch…read more The menu is very globally expansive with pockets of kimchi. I was true to myself and just ordered the classic breakfast ($18.20). It comes with your of eggs (scrambled for me), bacon + sausage, side salad topped with cherry tomatoes, toast, and lots of country fried potatoes. The eggs are Asian scrambled eggs - the kind you might get at a hotel in Asia. They're folded over and super fluffy. I like that you get both proteins though the sausages are maple flavored. The side salad is actually a nice surprise. We also ordered a California omelette ($19.20) which is comes with cherry tomatoes, avocado, spinach, mushrooms with pesto and a side of toast. We also added some ham for added protein. It's interesting in flavor - I've never had a pesto omelette before.i guess with all the veggies and pesto flavoring, it's very California-y in that way. It's easy here - order at the counter and seat yourself. The patio is spacious with plenty of shade. Service is super friendly and attentive. Oh, and they also play good music here. Will be back.

Overall, everything lacked flavor, although I will say the red salsa served with the chips was delicious. My friend ordered the avocado toast, but it was basically just a slice of bread with sliced avocado--no seasoning, condiments, or anything to make it stand out. The small garden salad was equally underwhelming, consisting of only romaine lettuce and cherry tomatoes with no dressing or even a drizzle of olive oil. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, but they were more like open-faced boiled eggs since the yolks were completely hard instead of runny. The café de olla had a nice flavor, but it was much sweeter than expected. I think it would be better if they served it unsweetened (or lightly sweetened) and let customers adjust the sugar to their own taste. I really wanted to enjoy this place because the ambiance is so charming, but the food just didn't live up to the experience.

It's a very nondescript location, you could drive by it 10 times before you noticed it, but once you walk in, it has a very warm homey feel to it. I'm always greeted with a smile and a hello and they seem to have quite a few regulars, because they call them by name when they see these customers walk in. Service - The staff (who I am assuming are the owners) are super friendly, again, greet everyone, and always open to making suggestions. If a place has breakfast burritos, I'm always down for that...so that's what I went with the first time, and every time after. When I asked about their Bfast burritos, the owner suggested that I get it with a spinach tortilla, a totally new option to me, but boy was I happy with it. I have gotten it every time since then. Parking - lots of parking available...it's very strip-mall-ish, but doesn't seem to be too busy. If this place was much closer to home, I'd come way more often than every other week or so! Yum Yum Yum!

She didn't have a good answer for me, just replied that there were a lot of nuts in the kitchen. I asked her to please let me know what specific nuts were present in the kitchen and if my daughter would be safe dining there. The server seemed dismissive and completely forgot to get back to me about it after she said she would go find out. Of course as a family with someone having a severe food allergy, we run into this all the time. It's not a new thing to feel like we are a burden or a bother. It IS disappointing when it seems the server has never been asked this question before and its even more disappointing when you're also met with a "well why are you asking me these bothersome questions" vibe. This is again, something we experience almost on the daily whenever we eat out. It's disappointing each time. It's a shame as I enjoyed my meal here. I wish more restaurants realized how much their response matters when it comes to customers coming in that live lives balancing danger in order to eat but also deserve to eat and enjoy their dining experience just like everyone else as much as possible. Someone with a life threatening food allergy SHOULD have access to at least some of the menu. Of course sometimes it cannot be helped but in general and as much as possible, if you are serving food, never mind people with preferences. Those who live with severe food allergies navigate a very difficult life and food establishments should know this comes down to inclusivity and safety and more awareness is needed (and at least the efforts to want to try) on how to serve the severely life threatened population. No one should be excluded or at the least it is what restaurants should aim for. Restaurants should be asking the severe food allergy community questions on how to keep them safe as they eat - clear allergen information on menus, trained staff on how to respond when informed that there is a food allergy present at the table, knowledgable on what is safe to eat on the menu and what are some protocols that the kitchen will follow in order to serve food safely and also offer some peace of mind - are all steps in the right direction. Everyone deserves to eat. Severe food allergy do not mean to be a bother. They want to eat and they want to stay safe. No one should ever be told, "you shouldnt eat here" because the food establishment cant be bothered to have some sort of plan on serving food safely to the severe food allergy population.
