Not bad. I think this is the only place i know that serves Cass (a popular beer in Korea). I can't complain, they have a decent menu selection and reminds me of the year I spent living in korea. I have been enjoying Korean food courtesy of my step family since I was very young--possible nostalgia bias, here--but I found the dishes authentic and delicious. We had the dumplings for the appetizer: good, but I didn't find them to be super flavorful. Prior to the entrees coming out, they brought out a variety of small sides, which was a nice touch. We ordered the squid and pork bulgogi and the jap che for entrees. The squid and pork bulgogi dish was a tad on the salty side, but it didn't stop us from finishing the entire plate! Where's my referral bonus! I don't get to Tucson enough to eat here more than a few times a year but I send every breathing person (actually one carried an oxygen tank) I can. When I travel I look for Korean first, Malaysian second and Ethiopian third. And any time I am within 100 miles of a military base I look for Korean restaurants or Japanese restaurants occupying a Korean kitchen. So yes, this midwest anglo boy knows his Korean. Mamas in Indianapolis used to be my favorite, but no longer! I have absolutely loved everything I've had here, especially the pork belly, but take all the glop off and let's talk rice. I'm a chef and I'm still trying to figure out what the hell the rice was. Its most common to get Jasmine or a Korean short grain, but this was (to my best guess) like a sprouted jasmine. It was white, but it had texture and chewiness...hell! Who knows - maybe it was just day old crap that they scraped from the rim of the rice cooker, but it was good - very, very good. But where was the dancing animé kitty, that's what I want to know! If you're going to have a kitzche name like Kimchi Time, you better have the bad overdub to back it up! Next time I go I'm going to just have them feed me whatever they want - omakase and see what happens. read more

Somehow, spot a small restaurant in a corner of a somewhat tucked away strip mall on Broadway. Kind of hard to tell what will be inside judging from the door covering in drapery. Not going to lie, expected it to be somewhat shady and had an escape plan at the ready. No need. As a first timer to Korean food I can't tell you what is "good" or offer some crazy amazing comparison of other Korean places (anywhere) as I am more a reviewer in the mold of, say, the old lady from the North Dakota newspaper who raved about the authenticity of, oh ya know, OLIVE GARDEN! At any rate, one hour before closing time I had some AMAZINGLY tasty Korean food and the service was second to none! The owner is super pleasant in a genuine manner and there is no doubt I will be back. I came here for the first time with a bunch of my friends. You knew it was authentic because there was a little Korean girl sitting at a table doing homework haha. A few of my Korean friends recommended this place as authentic, and I just listened to them because I don't eat Korean food often. The owner and his wife were delightful, charming, and quite funny. The pickled dishes they served before the meal were like a taste adventure! We had a bunch of dishes ordered around the table, with the most popular being the bulgogi. I just ordered spicy ramen because I wasn't that hungry. I was pleasantly surprised when they brought me some rice as well since I didn't expect it with the ramen. The ramen was too spicy for me to finish (yes I'm a wimp haha). I definitely look forward to coming back and trying either the bulgogi or the bibimbap :D read more

I am a fan of the beef bulogi it has always been my favorite and Korean restaurants, but for some reason this place just a makes it a little better than any place I have tried here in Tucson. I also ordered the beef spring rolls, they are fantastic with the dipping sauce they provide. Another Korean place my sister-in-law and I had to try. Let's go down the typical list we think every Korean place ought to be graded on: 1.) Kimchi 4/5 2.) Starter dishes 3.5/5 3.) Beef Quality 2/5 4.) Soup 3/5 5.) Pancake 3/5 6.) Noodles 3/5 The best thing about this place is the RICE! They have the BEST purple/black rice. This stuff is expensive and they actually serve it. No place in Tucson has this rice. How obsessed am I you ask? Well I shopped Lee Lees Korean aisle for an hour trying to find it and even resorted to asking my Korean client on where to buy it - to no avail! I do wish they used better quality beef because it was one of the worst. All-in-all it's okay. Today kimchi time was not packed and there were more than 65 percent of the tables open and it wasn't a typical dinner rush time. For some reason though the owner decides that we cannot sit at a table for 6, with a large party of 4. Instead of being nice about even, she instead scolded us like children In front of the guests that were there. Then she pretty much insisted that we move to a 4 top table. It was rather disgusting honestly, myself and one of my friends said as we moved to a smaller table, I know longer want to spend my money here. The bottom line is you should never yell in a scolding fashion at people across a room, especially not people looking to spend more than average amounts in your establishment. We are big eaters and drinkers and even better tippers. Be more welcoming and accommodating, or at least be nice about it. read more

I have been to Korea and have experienced traditional Korean food. This place exudes tradition. Homemade kimchi and great Bibimbap in a traditional stone bowl. Every part of the meal was great, but the only complaint I had was the stone bowl was too hot. It ended up burning some of my meal that I wasnt able to eat fast enough. This is my favorite Korean place in Tucson! I grew up on Korean food and was worried about finding a place to eat in Tucson... and Kimchi Time has always been fantastic for me! The owners and staff have always been very nice and friendly to my boyfriend and me. Whenever I'm feeling homesick, a meal here always makes me feel all better. I've tried a few other Korean places in Tucson, but Kimchi Time is definitely my favorite! The place is small, though, and when they are packed service can be slow. First time here, and we loved the place! My boyfriend had the kimchi fried rice and I had the pork bulgogi. The bulgogi was tender and flavorful, and it wasn't too spicy. They make their own homestyle mashed potatoes with apples, cucumber, carrots, and some mayonnaise, that our 11 month old tore up. He was a very happy baby. We loved it! We lived in Korea for 2 years and miss Korean food and the Korean people. We had 5 different things and it was all really good, just the way we remember it! The owner is Korean had been stationed at Osan AB as a Korean, where my husband was all stationed. So, we enjoyed talking with him as well. It is a smaller place - definitely can't hold more than 50. They don't bbq at the tables, they bring it out to you on a cast iron plate, so it keeps the food warm. We had the galbi, beef bugolgi, pork bugolgi (quite spicy), jap-che and bibim bap in the stone bowl. It was all good. We liked all the side dishes too. We will be going back again soon!! read more

I loved it! I had the bimbimbop (hot) and it was the best I've had. The food came out fresh and it was not a long wait considering it being a Friday night. Roughly 10-15 minutes after we ordered. The beef spring rolls are also delicious as an appetizer. The workers were nice and the older lady was very kind and funny. She joked around with a couple tables next to ours and they took pictures for one of the groups as well. I grew up in Japan and lived in Asian restaurant meccas in the US (Honolulu, San Francisco, etc) and had been truly depressed with the severe lack of good Asian places to eat ever since we moved here. We finally have a place in Tucson with delicious Korean food. I've been to Kimchi Time 2x now. Both times the food was delicious and the service is fabulous. The first time I went with a group of friends. Everyone enjoyed their food even though they were out of a couple of things and service was a bit slow. Apparently they enjoyed more business then they expected and were slow/running out of food. They have since added a 2nd stove so on my second visit the food was fast and delicious. I highly recommend the Kimchi Pancake, the Beef Bi Bim Bop & the Seafood Soup. Also they always bring assorted condiments to the table before dinner. Lots of little lovelies to sample. The service is wonderful. The owner taught my friend how to combine everything for the best result. He is very friendly and willing to help out any adventurous Korean first timers. Just a note the directions show the restaurant farther East on Broadway then it actually is. Many of my companions missed the turn and had to turn around. It's in the same plaza as Laffs. The food and service was amazing!! BBQ spring rolls were good- you only get two, but they're good size. Bimbim bop had amazing flavor and good portion size. Grilled beef bulgogi had amazing flavor- no extra sauce needed at all! We were the only ones in the restaurant at one point and our waitress was SO friendly. Kimchi time was pretty good for the most part. Me and my friends ordered the Pork Bulgogi to share along with the tofu seafood stew and some rice cake in red sauce kind of dish. The bulgogi was great however the portion was very small for 12 bucks! Definitely not worth paying that much when you can just go to "All you can eat" korean bbq. The tofu stew is delicious! I love everything about it. The bad thing though is the service. It's just starting out, so there's very little staff and they will mostly hide in the back which was hard to ask for refills on side dishes and stuff. They kind of messed up our order too when I asked for no green onions, but whatever, people make mistakes. To be honest it's one of those places where if you're not Korean, you will feel alienated! "Banchan -- side dishes served at all Korean restaurants -- are included in the cost of the meal and include "free refills." Citation - Thrillist NOT at this place. You PAY for this. Basically, a combo meal with it included. Imagine, McD's saying no soda refills. Ordered the bulgogi, the meat was tough. Ate the rice instead, and asked for more of the ban chan instead from the wait staff (the meat was too difficult to chew and I was still hungry). I watched the owner stop the wait staff from bringing the banchan refill (of only ONE item, only one of the side dishes, less than 1/2 ounce), and make her put it back. I am Korean-American and found that insulting. Won't be back. EVER. Be interesting to see a poll of those patrons that have actually received the PAID for refills on the side dishes/banchan. My advise - ask prior to ordering ...if the price includes refills on the banchan. Post your result here. Funny thing, I'm used to sub-standard tough meats at restaurants. I totally get that times can be tough for a restaurant, and interim measures may be implemented, but for the denial of a (prepaid) request of a refill of one tablespoon of a side dish...cabbage? FYI Spicy means Spicy! At most restaurants, I completely disregard the spicy symbols on the menu as being not applicable to me. My first experience at Kimchi Time, I did the same thing and ordered a spicy squid platter. The squid was excellently prepared, moist and tender. The sauce was hot, so hot I could barley finish the plate. This made Kimchi Time all the more endearing to me. My next visit I picked the broiled mackerel (not spicy) and bimimbap. The mackerel was simple but extremely flavorful and the bimimbap was a good accompaniment. I also love all of the pickled dishes to start with. Overall, this is my go-to Korean place! read more

I would give 3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4 stars. Reason for this is that while they do some things very well, there are some miscues that would be easy to fix that would really elevate them to may be even 5 stars. It's located in an unassuming strip mall. Small space with TV tuned to UA sports. Very friendly owners. Cooks are actually not Koreans but they know how to produce the authentic flavors. Menu isn't very big but has all the good stuff. Their strong suit is beef, especially Bulgogi. Thinly sliced, seasoned perfect, they come expertly cooked sizzling on a hot plate. Not cheap but generous serving. Meat Jun uses the same cut of meat and is delicious. Tang Soo Yuk is not bad but doesn't quite have the right flavor. Duk Mandoo Guk is excellent, really soul warming and sweat generating hearty soup dish. Duk-Bok-Ki is also very good, loaded with good stuff including ramen noodles. The sauce is not too spicy but it was tad too sweet for me. Their Dol Sot Bibimbap has great flavors but the stone bowl comes out too hot, burning the rice on three occasions I tried them. Banchans are good with unlimited refills. Overall, it's a great place with some shortcomings. read more

We came here for lunch today & what we got was bad service from the woman who served us. It seems like she was reluctant to serve us by serving other customers first that came after us. She withheld our condiments & sauces for our food for a while & brought it to our table only when we asked for them. The food was also bland & tasteless lacking any type of seasoning whatsoever. Love this place. My friend was always taking pictures of when she went to eat Korean food here and each time I was at work! It always looked so tasty and delicious so I finally got the chance to go try it! It was a great experience. The food was so amazing and the service was very welcoming and funny. They had a sense of humor and you could socialize with them like if you knew them for a long time! We ordered a combination of dishes and they were all great! I left there feeling full and completely satisfied! I still need to return to this place to try other dishes so I will definitely come back! They even taught us some Korean words like how to "Cheers" and say "Hello" and "Goodbye". So next time I'm going there I'm going to use these Korean terms!! read more
