Pork stone bowl bibimbap
Elvin C.

We regularly get together with my mother-in-law on Sundays in the Uptown area and figured to branch out and see what else there was other than our usuals. Funny enough, Kimchi Pop! has already been open for two years and we've already gone to some other restaurants nearby. Maybe I wrote it off since we have a Korean standby though farther away. So we figured to give it a try for convenience. It's a counter order arrangement and you bus your own tables, but there is a self-serve choice of four banchan provided for dine-in and a hot/cold water station. Dine in is on real plates and utensils rather than disposable-ware. We went with the kimbap ($13.99, spam +$3), stone bowl bibimbap (pork) - $15.99, soondubu (seafood) $14.50, and scallion pancake (seafood) - $12.99. Food is great and it was good to have the kimbap once with spam (thinking about another form of spam musubi, which is also on the menu). Stone bowl isn't going to be as hot to crisp rice, but I'm not sure that's a full star ding - so just go with regular bibimbap for $13.99. It still would have been good with another choice of filling without the surcharge. Keep in mind there is a 4% non-cash surcharge and meter parking is relatively available (at least on a Saturday night). Portions and quality were good to balance to the price and convenience. You'd get more banchan elsewhere and maybe lower prices, but you'd probably have to drive farther and tip up for service. Nice touch with dark chocolate choco pie at the end of the meal!

The Korean fried chicken and boba was ! As for the bibimbap and dumplings, they were OK. The bibimbap came with the sauce on the side and it wasn't enough ): a good option for casual Korean dining though! Counter service and a self-serve kimchi bar which was a nice addition.

This place is a gem! Everything was absolutely delicious! I have celiac disease and I love Asian food but it is near impossible to find gluten free. The menu has clear labels of gf options and dishes that can be made gf upon request. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Ok - first time here and did a take out order. I think it was decent but by no means the best Korean I've ever had. Given that there's not many Korean options in this immediate area, this will do for now, but I wouldn't come out of my way for this place. I was expecting a little more more flavor out of the bulgogi plate with rice. Overall a solid 7/10 I'd say.

Great Korean food in uptown!! About 3 or 4 tables to dine in. Went between lunch and dinner rush; our meal was prepared fresh and was nice and hot. Would definitely recommend this spot! Try it out!!!

I soooo wanted to give this more stars. I ordered delivery. The duck-guk soup with bulgogi was tasty, the dumplings were really good. I got one order steamed and another fried. The fried were just like my umma would make...steamed first and then lightly pan fried. I also got the chicken bibimbop which was also very tasty. The reason for the low stars.... I ordered the kimchee pancake and it was so burnt..it was literally charred and black. They didn't give a s**t and cut that up, packed it up and sent it to me. It was inedible. It's one thing if it was undercooked and they couldn't tell, or if an item was missing by mistake. But this was something they could clearly see was so burned and it speaks volumes that they just don't care about their customers and sent this out for delivery anyways.

Such a cute Cozy Korean restaurant. Having BTS music video playing in their TV. Not a huge fan of the group but I thought it was a cute touch to match the restaurant name. Food was amazing. Seafood pancake and the cheese dakgalbi were my favorite. The seafood soup was good too. Service was great, it was fast and efficient with friendly crew. Chef Son was amazing, he even check in with us checking how was the food. Place is clean and inviting.

Then I saw the KBBQ menu and all bets were off. I immediately pivoted and ordered the chef's tasting set, the Diweji, featuring pork jowl, pork collar, and pork belly, complete with an assortment of banchan. Zero regrets. And here's the part that should tell you everything you need to know: I am a certified radish hater. I avoid it whenever possible. Yet somehow, I found myself repeatedly reaching for the radish banchan and asking for more. Even the soup - which also featured radish - was absolutely delicious. If Perilla can convert someone who actively dislikes radish into a fan for one meal, that's saying something. The soju was exactly what I wanted with Korean barbecue: crisp, clean, and refreshing. I appreciate that it was neutral rather than overly sweet. The flavored, sweeter versions aren't really my thing unless the food is setting my mouth on fire. Speaking of spice, the wings were good: juicy, well-executed, and satisfying but I kept wishing they packed a little more heat. They weren't spicy at all, and a bigger kick would have taken them from very good to unforgettable. As for the meats, the pork jowl was gloriously rich and fatty, exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The pork collar ended up being my favorite: flavorful, tender, and with just the right balance of meat and fat. The pork belly was comforting and familiar - the classic KBBQ staple done well, with beautifully rendered edges and that indulgent quality that makes it a crowd-pleaser for a reason. The set also came with potatoes that were unexpectedly delicious. My only complaint? It was far too much food for one person. The service deserves its own mention. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The entire meal was delivered with efficiency and a smile, making a solo diner feel completely comfortable lingering and enjoying the experience. What I thought would be a quick happy hour stop turned into one of my favorite meals.

We ordered a seafood soup, seafood pancake, and a salmon crunch roll. We quickly realized that this was an atypical Korean restaurant experience as we did not receive banchan and there were not many traditional options on the menu. I think that should've been our cue to go, but we stayed and were very disappointed. The service was extremely slow. We had to ask multiple times when it was coming, and when the food finally came out, it was underseasoned and the texture was very off. The seafood pancake tasted deep fried and had chunks of imitation crab. It had the texture of an unrisen focaccia. The soup was tasteless, and the salmon roll was drenched in mayo and eel sauce. They also gave us a "special" hot sauce that tasted like just a mix of sriracha and Tabasco. Small highlights: the ambiance was nice; it seemed clean. Waiter was nice enough. I hate giving bad reviews, but this was quite a shocking meal.

Perilla is a tastefully decorated restaurant, both loungey and rich, but still makes you feel like the joint is all for you. You know, 5 star service is such a lost art, it makes you forget how much you miss it when all of a sudden it happens to be right in front of you. Ricardo, our bartender, what a gem. Forget about the perfectly made drinks that were served to us. Ricardo made us feel right at home with his kind disposition and friendly demeanor. But it doesn't just stop at Ricardo. Everyone was absolutely fantastic. We could have been served 7-11 sushi at this point and I still would have left 5 stars. Food time. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. They were not extra or over the top in anyway. But you can tell when something is done well and correctly, just like these fries were. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience. All the accompanying condiments were exceptional on their own and could have functioned as their own course. The Japchae glass noodles were a stunner. The real sleeper was the chopped lettuce greens tossed in their chili vinaigrette. Could have eaten 20 bowls of those lettuce greens. Sadly, I forgot the name of our server who cooked and cut our meat for us. She really added to the experience. She expertly prepared our food while maintaining a fun and pleasant conversation with us. The meat itself, my goodness, tender, smoky, quality-forward, and perfect served with the condiments. I was staying at the hotel and encouraged to check out the restaurant so came downstairs to reach out to the host about a reservation. I explained further if there is a cancellation would love to be notified and she wrote my name down. I went back to the lobby, looked on OpenTable and I saw multiple reservations. I went back to the hostess showing the 8:15 resy I got and she said it wasn't accurate and if someone booked it and came they would refuse them (what???!! There's a cancellation fee as well). I asked about the 8:45 and her coworker said that IS available. I was confused, because a minute ago she said they were fully commited. Which I said back, she said there is actually an 8:45 (okay so you lied). I asked if we could put our name down for that and did. After that extremely strange interaction, which I was not used to after eating at many higher end restaurants we sat down at 8:45. We ended up getting a mix of small plates. The waiter was clearly trying to sell us their expensive courses for his tip though he was very sweet... which he may not have realized we had an expense budget for work and we were trying not pass that. He emphasized the small plates were small and not enough food which we fell for and got more and had way too much food and passed our expense budget due to it. The food is great, it's the service that has work to do especially for such a high price tag. Get the chicken for sure. Dumplings you can pass on. The broccolini (not pictured) is great as well. Amazing sauce. As the food is good I would not come here again due to the service as their are other restaurants that are more buttoned up than this.
