This is a mom and pop establishment and the staff is very nice here. We were served and left to visit for a good amount of time without being rushed out the door. The food was good, nothing outstanding or elevated but we ate until we were full. The salad rolls had chicken inside which was new for me. It was sliced chicken too , which threw me off a bit. I wish I had tried some other things on the menu but we ordered the chicken pho and lemongrass bbq chicken on rice. The pickled daikon is my fave. Was driving through Surrey and ordered on a whim for pick up to take back home in the Valley. Even with the 40 minute drive home, the rare beef and beef ball Pho was fantastic. Came with basil, lime, sriracha and chili oil (last on request) chopsticks a spoon and napkins! Friendly staff, quick service, good bowl of flavour and a great price! I heard somewhere that you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning and I'm not saying I started in the morning but I might as well have based on the way my old lady body felt this past Labour Day Monday. Just wrote an exam I'd been studying for all August so the first weekend of freedom meant Happy Hour with the ladies that turned into regular hour drinks that turned back into Happy Hour that turned into After Hours. Listen, I don't make the rules. Forgot I'm not 22 anymore though so to say the morning after was Rough (Capital R) is an understatement. Worry not though friends, when there is Bun Bo Hue to save the day. It cannot just be any Bun Bo Hue though - it must be the kind of Bun Bo Hue that is served from a Vietnamese restaurant whose outer appearance makes you question whether or not it is a legitimate business. We are not here for frou frou fancy pants elevated Vietnamese cuisine. No. We are here for the food of the people and Kim Hoang on the mean streets of Surrey with its dilapidated white blinds blocking the sun from entering delivers. Over exaggerating ever so slightly maybe, because upon entering, I was actually pleasantly surprised to be greeted by bright turquoise walls and a well lit, almost clean seating space. $12 for a bowl of Vietnamese noodles in Surrey is not exactly what I would call cheap but I would happily pay it again because this savoury broth, plenty of meat and that tangy kick from the spice is exactly what this old lady needed to be reborn back into some semblance of a functioning human being. "They give you so much meat!" said nobody ever eating pho at a Vietnamese restaurant. I stand corrected here though because a $12 Large Pho Ga with its subtly savoury and sweet chicken broth comes with an abundance of mostly adequately tender chicken and quail eggs to boot. No Vietnamese meal ever feels quite complete for me without Spring Rolls and more than ever were deep fried foods necessary today. And even if Deep Fried Spring Rolls were my saving grace on this most difficult of days, therein also lies Kim's weakness. Egg wrappers are not what the people want when it comes to delicious spring rolls. Rice wrappers are what the people want and if you want to be the best, you must give the people what they want. Still, even if the rolls here are bundled in egg wrappers which is always a letdown, I'll admit that at least their insides were a tasty mixture of vermicelli noodles, minced pork, and vegetables. Struggled to decide between the Spring Rolls and the Salad Rolls so we got both. It doesn't explicitly state on the menu that you can get half orders but the friendly lady working there did us a solid and let us do it. Not too big, not too small - this salad roll actually had the perfect ratio of every ingredient. There is nothing more despicable then a Salad Roll stuffed to the brim with bean sprouts and measly shrimp bits so thank you Kim Hoang for being the hero I needed today with your nicely sized prawns and pork slices. Strolling out of the restaurant a new person, would I come again? For $33 and a new lease on life, I'd be a fool not to. read more

The restaurant serves some average tasting Vietnamese food. The broth lacked depth in flavour and tasted watered down. Noodle and meat quantity was decent. The vermicelli bowl was also average. I prefer the traditional rice wrapper for my spring rolls. The spring roll filling could use a bit more seasoning. The grilled meat was good. I wish there was a tad more vegetables in the bowl. Service was fast! Pricing is average for Surrey standards at about $10 an entree. Parking is somewhat challenging as the plaza is busy. If you are in the area, craving Vietnamese and do not want to drive, this is an okay choice. I would prefer to drive to other tastier options in the area. read more

Ate a late lunch there at 2:30 p.m. and it was surprisingly busy for being in a non-descript, parking cramped strip-mallish type of place in Guildford. Nothing special. Actually for the price - $9.50 my grilled pork chop (thin and small) and lemongrass chicken (tasty but small portion) on rice was an overall small portion, although it was tasty. Hard to screw this up. And I am beyond obsessed right now where I enter a Pho place and they might as well not have any other dishes on the menu. Taste good, portion not so good. This place used to be my favorite place for Pho in Surrey. Lots of parking, pretty good pho, and special sauce. But once I ate at Pho Tau Bay, I haven't been back. There Pho is good. The broth was good, and the rest of the menu was OK as well. However, recently they have been cheaping out. You used to get the special sauce with your order, and now you have to ask for it. Their food is okay but nothing special. Interior? outdated and kinda tacky. It's quite noisy even when you're the only customer around because of the employees. They just sit at a table and chat loudly to one another, even to the other employee across the room, which makes them even louder because they have to yell. I've eaten here a number of times and they were always this noisy. As if there were no customers around. As for the food that we ordered today, I saw (pubic?) HAIR in my sauce! I didn't complain about it because they might give me something worse in return so I just didn't eat it. If you are planning to eat here, DONT expect good customer service or any service at all other than getting your order and bringing them to your table. I worked here for work experience during my high school years and I still go here often to eat Pho because the service is awesome and the food has always delicious. Of course as the years went by, price for Pho has increased which really complete with mcdonalds meals. The location is easily accessible from behind, not so quite from the front due to the large amount of vehicles parking for other restaurants. read more

This place gets 2 stars only because their soup was served quickly and hot, and was surprisingly flavourful. I went with my sister and her boyfriend. We ordered, "two spring rolls" She came back with two plates of 5 spring rolls at 8$ a plate. We laughed because clearly there was a miscommunication and we explained we didn't want so many. She snapped at us that we ordered spring rolls and we said yes but we wanted two, not 10! She refused to take them back, after saying even if I take them back, we have to pay for it all anyway. The soup was good but obviously left a bad taste in my house after being treated like that over her misunderstanding. On top of that, they continued to talk loudly and laughing in a different language behind our table and the one waitress who was trimming the basil leaves had a box of tissue beside her, blowing her nose, and without washing her hands, continued handling food. The pho is okay but not the best; the noodles are a bit powdery and too thick. It's hard to describe the soup but it's not as sweet as some other places. However, the yang chow fried rice here is amazing. It is a vivid yellow colour and rich in flavour. Overall I do not really recommend the pho here but I do recommend the fried rice. read more

Once you enter, a host/hostess isn't there to get you a table, but under 30 seconds, a waitress is there to get you one. The service service is great, the waiting time is low, and it's not too busy for the first two points to go bad. The food is your everyday pho, nothing speacial, nothing new, but it tastes good, so it's just neutral. Always order from here because they have affordable, tasty food. Never really had a problem with this place. Customer service is not that good, and the cleanliness of the place ranges from bad to disgusting,(is why I normally take out food). Another reason why I rated this a 3 star is because of how the quality of the food has degraded over the past 2-3 years. Fried rice has gone less tasty, crispy fried wonton's meat has dramatically decreased. At least the house special stayed the same. read more

This place is one of my go to pho places in Guildford/Surrey. I have been going to this place for 5+ years and they never disappoint me. Many good reasons, mainly the soup! Their broth is so good and the meat is done just right. I love that they have ginger/spicy sauce that not a lot of Pho places have nowadays. I know this place has been compared to Pho Tau Bay quite often but I have to say that if you're ordering rice I feel that Pho Tau Bay has better selections and tastier grilled meat, but the soup in this place still tops. Actually its hard to compare because I love both Pho places equally haha. They both have their own good qualities that I love but definitely I would order soup (pho) here more often than Pho Tau Bay, and I would order the rice combo with grilled meat in Pho Tau Bay than here in Kim Hoang haha :) read more
