It's hard to put into words just how great Kristine is. I found her on yelp after discovering my son needed OT help. After reading the other reviews I knew she was who we needed, but I was having a hard time imagining that she would be able to make as big of an impact as other reviewers and her website had suggested. However, after a year of my then 4.5, now 5.5 year old, working with her I can confidently say she is in fact as amazing as other's have said. It feels just short of a miracle and I am so beyond thankful I found her and we as a family were fortunate enough to be able to work with her. Hand writing is one of the most concrete way to prove her work. My son was writing at a 2.5 year old level at the start (when he was 4.45) and he now has self selected drawing as one of his favorite activities to do. He chooses to sit down for literally an hour and draw away. We never really forced writing or drawing at home, this was all thanks to Kristine. He was hardly able to even hold onto the zip line in her back yard due to low abdominal muscle strength at the start of the year and he now is able to not only hold on, but he can pull his knees up to his chest and keep them up while zipping! Along with significantly improving all of the areas he was behind on (handwriting, motor planning, core strength), she also has taught him social skills, math skills, letter recognition, etc. And just by observing her sessions with him I have also learned skills on ways to converse with my son or have him listen better to me if he isn't listening to me. She is so skilled with children in so many ways. My son loves going to her every week and we are all so sad that he will no longer be seeing her weekly (because he has improved so much he does not need it anymore!). I want to add that I first had him in with a hospital OT at UCSF and the work they were able to do in the small hospital room was not getting us anywhere. I found that my insurance need up refunding me the same amount as they covered for the hospital after I submitted the super bills Kristine provided (because our family hit our out of pocket max). Kristine has been so wonderful and has made such a difference with my son that I don't even know where to begin. If I could give her 10 stars, I would. My son had several issues requiring OT and we had seen another therapist for about ~2 months. The other therapist was nice but my son quickly started dominating the sessions and he wasn't making any progress. I had called Kristine a couple of months before that but she didn't have space to see my son at the time. Fast forward to September and I get a call from Kristine that she had an opening. I had read what other Yelp reviewers had said about her so I was excited to get started. I was in for quite a surprise. Her space is AMAZING. It is both indoors and outdoors and the space is HUGE. It has a trampoline, zip line, tree house, etc. which my son loves. Everything at Kristine's place serves a purpose, while also being a ton of fun. She hit it off with my son right off the bat and he felt at ease with her. He has a lot of energy (and I mean a lot...) but she knew how to focus his attention. She challenges him in a firm but kind and supportive way. In just ~2 months, he has made SO much progress. He never used to like to draw or write and now he can't stop writing his name or our names on everything. Both his fine motor and gross motor skills have improved significantly. Before seeing Kristine, it was hard holding my son's attention for more than 10 minutes. But just last week, he put together a ~300 piece Lego set all by himself! Additionally, my son was having some difficulty at school in his TK class. Kristine made the time to sit with my son's teacher and the staff and help come up with a plan to create a supportive space for my son. I can't thank Kristine enough. We LOVE Miss Kristine! We were referred to Kristine for an assessment of our son's sensory processing and motor delays. As soon as we met Kristine she was calling our little guy "friend" and we felt deep confidence in her ability to figure out what was going on and what our little one needed. Kristine was a godsend for our son Henry and is as parents too. Henry began with Kristine when he was 4 and getting ready for kindergarten. Kristine is magical and i'm so grateful to have her as part of our team. We were recommended to Kristine after binocular vision testing at UC Berkeley eye clinic. My 8 year old daughter started with Kristine about six months ago and in that short period of time we've seen huge improvements in her core strength, balance, and fine motor skills. Kristine is THE best! I suspected fine-motor skills was a challenge for my daughter when she was as young as 2 years old but the school she went to did not have an OT available until she was 3. After two years of OT at school and OT through our health insurance (which only addressed daily living skills such as brushing teeth rather than writing), my daughter was retained in Pre-Kindergarten. She was going to enter Kindergarten as a 6 year old with below age level fine-motor skills and was considered at-risk for dysgraphia when I first contacted Kristine. By that time, every time the teacher presented my daughter with a paper ad pencil task, she would have tears welled up in her eyes. At home, we had constant battles over her writing journal for school. It's been 8 months of working with Kristine and now my daughter happily writes all of her letters and short sentences. Miss Kristine is a true gem in the OT world and we feel so incredibly fortunate to have found Kids Moving Ahead! Our youngest has been working with Miss Kristine for almost a year and the strides and growth she has demonstrated are nothing short of amazing! When we started OT our kiddo was about a year behind particularly in fine motor and handwriting. Here we are one year later and our kiddo is testing at or above age and ready to graduate from Miss Kristine! Kristine has worked with my son for the past year and she is simply amazing! My son started seeing Kristine at the beginning of the school year to help him to cope with his ADD, sensory issues, and to improve his with gross and fine motor skills. Now after 9 months with Kristine, at the end of the school year, he is now a child that is capable of controlling his emotions, focuses on tasks for extended periods of time, is able to do push-ups, and simply has the best handwriting in the class. When I called around for pediatric occupational therapy services for my son several years ago, I had a strong sense that Kristine would be a good fit even though it meant driving a good distance each week. I'm glad I followed my instincts. Kristine is knowledgeable, experienced, sincere, fun, and easy to talk to. She has a wonderfully genuine relationship with her clients and families, and it is obvious she cares and respects all the kids who come through her doors. Kristine works out of her home, which has been set up to provide both indoor and outdoor therapy. Her basement has multiple swing set-ups, ball pit, equipment, games, ramp, and table work area. Her large backyard has a trampoline, zipline, tree house, rock wall, hammock, large grass area for sports and games, special tree swing down by a creek, and fruit trees (great for my reluctant, picky eater!). Kristine also uses her beloved family pets in her therapy, which helped my son feel comfortable around animals. Her property is an ideal environment for pediatric OT. We have now graduated after 2 years. In addition to helping my son with his OT goals, she taught my son to ride a 2-wheel bike, play football, and be confident and creative. She offered lots of encouragement and praise, yet provided firm limits when necessary. I can't recommend Kristine Hubner highly enough! I would like to echo that Kristine is knowledgeable, highly skilled and has loads of experience. We spent a long time searching for the right OT and felt so lucky to find Kristine. She has been a tremendous help to our 12 year old son with dysgraphia, emotional regulation and coordination challenges. Kristine is compassionate, patient, positive, fun and energetic. We have been impressed with her ability to communicate with our child. Kristine's space is a delight for the senses. Kristine has been one of the few bright spots of the past year. She started working with our 8-year-old son over the summer as he was struggling with his handwriting. There was a lot of frustration with any (and all) writing assignments and with distance learning, he wasn't getting the attention he needed at school and it was clear that he wasn't responding to our efforts at home. Our son can be hesitant and anxious around new people but the moment he met Kristine he adored her and found the exercises and activities fun and challenging. He counts down the days until he gets to see her and there's absolutely no stigma attached to OT for him...he tells his friends all about it and how much fun it is. The space is incredible...a wonderland for kids with the trampoline and climbing wall, etc. She is warm, welcoming and also the right amount of firm...when Ms. Kristine asks him to redo his work or to try harder, he listens and responds. His handwriting has improved dramatically and is legible and neat and there's a bit less frustration with school work in general. She has shared so many simple but effective strategies for helping him navigate tricky situations. The real bonus here is the boost in his self-confidence which is incredible. My five-year-old son has been going to Kristine for about six months now. He started OT on the recommendation of his preschool teachers; his fine and gross motor skills weren't at age-level, and everyone was concerned about his ability to focus--kindergarten was right around the corner, after all! I wasn't really sure what to expect, but Kristine is very friendly and disarming, and she made my son and me feel comfortable right away. She's got tons of cool stuff in her office--a ball pit, lite brite, trapeze-type swinging contraptions, and more. I wish *I* could be the patient! When I first contacted Kristine, I was scared and just starting to navigate early intervention services for my then 2-year-old son. I remember how anxious I was when I first contacted her and how calm, supportive and positive she was. She was able to start working with us right away, giving my son the support he needed months before he would have otherwise received it. When my son first started seeing Ms. Kristine, he was several months behind on gross motor skills. He could not jump, kick a ball, alternate feet on stairs, catch a ball and more. Now he does all of these things with ease and is continuing to become more confident in his physical abilities. She also has worked with him on fine motor tasks, sensory support and social support. And perhaps equally important, she has helped me as I have continued to advocate for my son, providing reports for evaluations and IEPs, counseling me on strategies for school, listening when I needed support and sharing her opinion when I needed a second set of eyes. Kristine Hubner is a child-whisperer OT extraordinaire. Although well-reviewed on Berkeley Parents Network, I found Kristine through a recommendation from our school's learning specialist and I couldn't have been more thrilled. My son (9yo) has had serious dysgraphia for many years. We went to Ms. Kristine in spring of 2013 for an evaluation and she absolutely nailed it. I took my 3rd grade son because he wrote like a kindergartener: the space within and between words was the same making it hard to read, the size of the letters in each word was random, he used capital letters throughout the sentence but not necessary at the beginning of sentences, particular letters were always capitalized (the letter d) regardless of where it was in any word, etc. It was a mess. In her evaluation, she determined that not only did he have dysgraphia, he also had core strength weaknesses compared to other kids his age and cross body" physical challenges (technically called postural stability and bilateral integration problems). Additionally, he had trouble with "whole body listening" as he is very squirmy and she made great progress on that, although that work will take longer. She gave us a home program for the summer, both PT exercises as well as a writing without tears book. He improved but it still wasn't good enough. So we started going to Ms. Kristine weekly for 4 months and the improvement was astronomical! My still 9 yo son is writing the most beautiful words I've ever seen! The last essay he wrote in school I looked at it and was SURE it wasn't his! I couldn't believe it! Beautiful writing, legible, size appropriate without using that special dotted line paper, correct punctuation and caps, etc. It was so neat I couldn't believe it! But Ms. Kristine isn't wonderful ONLY because of the results she obtains. My child (and the other kids who I know go to her ) LOOOOOOVE Ms. Kristine. My son adored her and loved going and was very sad when we had to finish. She is patient yet firm. She doesn't JUST work on the presenting complaint but the ancillary issues that relate to the main problem so my son was doing these super fun OT exercises that helped him with balance, coordination, finger dexterity, hand grip strength etc. and he just thought he was playing and loved it! After every session if the child works hard, they get a little treat and if they hit a major milestone, she takes them to the big swing in the back of the house that is uber fun. Her office is on her property in Orinda and it's quiet and peaceful and comfortable and feels just so right. We've "graduated" from Ms Kristine for now but if I ever need the services of OT in any capacity again, you can bet we'll be back. Kristine is amazing! Our 9-year-old son sees her for help with handwriting and she has succeeded there but offered SO much more. When our son began working with Kristine, his handwriting was illegible. As a consequence, though he is a bright kid with a sophisticated vocabulary and great ideas, he repeatedly said he hated writing. We tried to explain that handwriting is separate from the art of writing but he conflated the two and lost confidence. Fast forward to now after working this year just one hour per week with Kristine -- our son's handwriting is completely legible and he says he loves writing! In addition to her expertise with OT, Kristine showed our son incredible warmth, care, and love that I believe ultimately is what really helped to turn around his attitude about writing. Kristine also went out of her way to spend time emailing and talking with our son's school teacher and always kept in good communication with us about progress and scheduling. As an added benefit, Kristine helps our son understand the importance of eye contact and serves as a fantastic role model for general social skill development. Kristine is an amazingly skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist. She blends clinical knowledge with a warm connection with my five-year-old daughter. When we started, Kristine did a full OT assessment, created milestones, and made sure we had "homework" that would help us reach our goals. My daughter's fine and gross motor skills weren't on track, and she often wouldn't try new things that she thought she couldn't do--everything from art and drawing to writing or games of catch. She had no interest in practicing anything with me or my husband--or even her older sister. Enter Kristine. Kristine Hubner Levin (or Miss Kristine, as my son called her) was a godsend for our family. My 6-year-old son was having both fine- and gross-motor skill delays. His teachers and pediatricians recommended occupation therapy, and we started out with an OT program at a local hospital. We worked with the OT for almost six months at great expense with little progress. And our son dreaded going. At the urging of his teacher, we switched to Miss Kristine. Our son made immediate progress and loved going to OT. Kristine works with the child and the parents, giving helpful and caring advice. Her approach is fun, smart and effective. My son's handwriting, core strength and gross-motor skills have improved dramatically. Also, Kristine's fee was very reasonable, about 1/5 what we had been paying! My son misses Miss Kristine and has asked to visit her since he "graduated". We feel so lucky to have worked with her. read more

"Miss Kristine" was the one appointment each week that my daughter looked forward to. Kristine is truly gifted with children, and had a way with our 6 year old daughter that got her to challenge herself in ways that we could not. Kristine had endless amounts of patience and kindness, yet was also able to push our daughter outside of her comfort zone so that she was always challenged. We began seeing Kristine because we had concerns about our daughter playing comfortably on the school playground. She displayed sensory processing issues and was unwilling to jump, climb or play ball. Over the period of a year, Kristine made incredible progress with her in so many ways including helping overcome a fear of water. Now when I watch her at the park or at swimming lessons, I'm utterly thrilled to see her feel more comfortable with herself and enjoy the things many kids take for granted.
