This is a quiet , peaceful gem of a place in oak park. The dinner platter was great but I have a few comments. I got the akbari dinner. The soup that came with it was wonderful and reminded me of my younger years with family. It had vegetables, flavor depth and texture, and it wasn't oily at all. The platter came with chicken in various forms. The grilled chicken pieces were a bit dry but had wonderful flavor. The minced lamb was flavorful but would have been better not dried out. Lunch specials till 3pm with good options. I haven't eaten at this place in years however it is still as good as I remember. The atmosphere is still calm and inviting. The food seasoned perfectly and delicious. I started with soup mughlai gosht soup and it was excellent. I also had the Khyber pass biryani. It took was delicious and included shrimp, lamb, and chicken with a yogurt sauce. Taj mahal was eXtra cold; small beer size. Service was quick and the food was hot. Not only is the food incredible--their aloo mutter will make you weep with joy--but the staff here are wonderful. The quality of the food is excellent, everything is delicious and spiced to your taste and nobody does more delicious naan or appetizers than Khyber Pass. Also, yesterday when I made a mistake and messed up my order the gentleman who helped me was so kind and they fixed my mistake and didn't even charge me extra as most other restaurants would have done. First off I must say the Buffay is awesome. You have to try the Buffay especially if you're from the neighborhood it's a little jam. You have to treat yourself once in a while. The mango lassie is absolutely delicious. There's a really great place if you want to sit down and eat with a bunch of people it doesn't take much time. The grilled chicken comes out so delicious very nice friendly staff plenty of room two rooms of open space with tables. I definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for a good food good conversation, warm, vibrant energy in a safe place like Oak Park and it is a very nice area worth exploring day walking in Dave shopping and it has a little bit of a nightlife to. read more

4/5...I got curious, its hard to find a proper and consistent indian joint sometimes.... hit or miss. This one offers good service, dimmed lights, tasty but small/ pricey portions, clean environment and quality ingredients. The Samosas are not "right out of the oven" fresh but the Naan is... definitely get the Kyber Naan... garlic and cheese is proper! The meat cuts are quality and the sauces are good enough to want more. I can tell it's not entirely made from scratch per order and some things are prepared earlier, but its still flavorful enough to enjoy. (The orders came out quick..if you get what i mean) As far as price and portions... you're going to easily spend 20$ on a main plate, and 7$ on an appetizer. I'd go far as to say the appetizer and the main dishes are similar in size. (Yikes) Expect to pay 70$ for two people breh... Its Oak Park afterall..mmmrite?? Next time, I wont order the saucey main meals because its mostly sauce and a few cubes of quality meat. Moving forward, im getting an all meat dish without sauce to get my real money's worth. Paying $20 for a sauce themed plate like Marsala or Butter Chicken leaves a weird feeling in my wallet in general. Overall:: I'd come here again.. BUT for their lunch specials for myself. If you bring a date or the entire family, be prepared to drop some serious $$$. Its quality, clean and flavorful. Came in with mediocre expectations given that we went to Oak Park and are not reviewing a restaurant on Devon street. However we were hopeful. We had driven past the other day and were excited to see that this local gem had been open for the last 30 years. We ordered a plethora of food to pass judgement fairly across the board. With great disappointment we have to report that the food was terribly bland, we didn't even find the salt. The chicken tandoori tasted boiled and splashed with red food dye. The chicken biryani was not biryani, it was more of a tomato base rice with soft chicken. The samosas weren't the worst I've had. But the main spice in there was the whole cumin which is probably the only spice they threw in there. We spent a lot of money which isn't meant as a notion of complaint rather as an effort to say that we really did try. If you want Indian food please save your disappointments. read more

It was around 7:30pm so it was pretty empty, as we expected. We were seated right away and were able to put in our orders pretty soon after that. They offer Indian beers, which was nice to order and try for the first time. Fair warning that the tall option is a large bottle of beer! We ordered the samosas to share. The samosas surprisingly had a kick to them! I enjoyed it a lot. We also ordered the garlic naan to share. Honestly, these were probably one of the better naan's I've had. They were crispy on the edges and fluffy in the middle. For my entree, I got the tofu tikka masala. I asked for extra spicy, and the entree came extra spicy. The server even came by to ask if it was to my preference, and it was! I had a good amount of leftovers too for another meal. I wrote a very positive review about this place years ago, but today my view has changed. The food is still very good, but the service is really poor. No one greets when you come in and no one greets when you leave, cutlery plates and glasses are almost thrown on the table. Perhaps this explains why the place is completely empty. They advertise a discount offer for some dishes from 11am to 3pm, I went at 2pm, got one of those dishes and was charged full price. A TASTE OF INDIA This mainstay in downtown Oak Park is known for their vegetarian friendly buffet. Despite walking by Khyber Pass hundreds of times over the last few years, it's not a place that we come to often. Hecho en Oak Park was our original destination on 12/18/19 but upon seeing they were closed for a private event, we diverted here. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived and the owner sat us quickly. We each got a large 650mL bottle of Taj Mahal for $8. I've never tried Indian beer before, but this lager was refreshing and a fair price. Some folks order off the menu, but many (including us) opt for the buffet. It's $18 for dinner and $14 for lunch. As far as I know, it's the same items just served at different hours of the day. The buffet has a decent variety of items, including lots of vegetarian choices: samosas, naan, pakora, a tasty soup made with garbanzo beans, and a simple salad. There were a few meat dishes like chicken tikka masala and lamb curry. They brought out freshly cooked tandoori chicken to our table, an unexpected surprise. I'm a big believer in sauces -- unofficially, I'm the condiment king at the office where I work -- and Khyber Pass had some good ones in mango chutney and raita, a yogurt sauce w/cucumbers. My favorite dish was the rice (a striking yellow color because of saffron) mixed with curry and a touch of raita. Bread = 4 Circuses = 4.5 The atmosphere inside Khyber Pass is very zen. Tasteful background music and colors of dark green make for a relaxing dining experience. Someone that appeared to be the owner came over a couple times to check on us and ask how things were. It wasn't terribly busy on the Wednesday evening when we visited. * TL;DR * When it comes to authentic Indian cuisine in Oak Park, this is your one-and-only option. There aren't a great deal of things for carnivores to enjoy on the buffet, and I was a little disappointed they didn't have butter chicken available on either the buffet or regular menu. I enjoyed the ambiance more than the food, if I'm being honest. I'd recommend Khyber Pass for those seeking to mix it up from the routine of tacos & deep dish pizza, especially for those enjoying a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. read more

Was craving Indian food on this rainy Friday. Khyber Pass was exactly the comfort food I wanted. I got the chicken tikka masala and the bread basket for 2. It also came with basmati rice. All delicious! The chicken is succulent, but that broth with naan covered in it, is just amazing. They give a huge portion of naan for $5.50. The entree portion is bigger than I remember too. The contactless pick-up was a breeze. We ordered using the app that their website redirects to and it was super easy to customize what spice level you wanted for each dish. It also came with a surprise coupon for our order! We accidentally arrived about five minute before our designated pick-up time, but it was already there ready to pick-up. I got the chicken tikka masala and it was amazing. Some of the best I've ever had and the chicken was so tender. Absolutely amazing. The S.O. got the chicken vindaloo, which was surprisingly quite vinegary, but he liked it. The chicken again was quite tender, but it was a little silly to have a giant quartered wedge of potato in the curry.
