Mama Thai is a staple in the Forest Park area and I was happy to try it for dinner! We ordered the Pad Thai and Spicy Basil Rice. I did think it was interesting that it was not spicy Thai basil fried rice, like I have had at other places, but ground chicken and veggies with white rice served on the side. Overall the interior was clean and well decorated, and our service was quick. My table mate was able to ask for the spicy basil dish to be "mild" which was appreciated. The appetizers were fine. However, I ordered the cornish hen for an entree. Apparently, they pre-cook them and then heat them up when you order it. My hen was frozen when it came to my table. Update: We just picked up our Mother's Day Thai food supper and it is incredible!! Thank you Mama Thai for looking after our family during the COVID pandemic! The owner even wished me Happy Mother's Day. Please tip well!!! We just enjoyed a nice quiet lunch - $21 plus tip for two lunch specials and a Diet Coke which I feel is a great deal. Includes a starter, soup and very large main course. We both had pad Thai- one tofu and one vegetable- and they were both flavorful and so large we took home half of each meal entree. Lots of fresh vegetables in both the tofu soup and the vegetable pad thai. The vegetarian spring rolls were delicate and delicious with a sweet plum sauce. Excellent service. Good value. Today, I was in the mood for lighter fare so I ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, fried tofu, and papaya salad. I thought the spring rolls were overpriced until they came out - four giant rolls on one plate! The tofu was very crispy. The sauce for the tofu and the papaya salad had a nice, unexpected spicy kick. The mango with sticky rice is just the right amount of sweet. I usually get the catfish curry, which is seriously drool-worthy. I don't know how they keep the catfish crispy in a curry, but it's perfectly cooked. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The restaurant is usually quiet at lunch, but always has many takeout orders. The staff is always friendly and appreciative of customers. It really just doesn't get better! read more

This was bizarre. It's like Thai food with very minimal seasoning. I've eaten in many Thai places and never come across one like this where it's on par with a Thai frozen meal for white people in the supermarket. I hated it. The shrimp were large and the veggies fresh but it was like even the spice that was in there wasn't mixed so you'd have nothing then a bite of too much. They did bring the right items but they were so far removed from how every Thai place I've ever eaten at in my life makes it that if I didn't know I wouldn't even recognize them. Good and reliable Thai food in the area for a long time. Have ordered takeout here for about 10 years. 90% of the time the food is good. A few mistakes along the way but nothing that made us stop ordering here. Excellent curries, good chicken dishes. Very good crab rangoon, which is called golden crab on their menu. I recommend pickup which is very fast, usually 15-20 minutes after ordering, but they will give you an estimated time based on how busy the kitchen is. I recently ordered their chicken pad Thai, and was slightly disappointed by their chicken, or lack there of. In the past, they used to give pretty decent portions of your choice of meat, but with my most recent order, i had to really dig to find a few pieces of chicken. It was mostly just noodles. Found this place to try after the dr visit. The décor is unpretentious with classic Thai artwork on the walls. Our server was fast, friendly and efficient. The star of this place was the food! We started with Tom Kha soup that was bursting with flavor and lots of chicken. Next were the mini egg rolls that were free for paying in cash (spending $30-$70 for this benefit) that were hot, crispy and scrumptious. I found the sweet chili sauce that came with the mini egg rolls SO DELICIOUS that I had to request some to go. For mains we shared Panang curry and Khee Mao. The Panang sauce was very creamy and peanut forward with a nice kick. The Khee Mao was a delicious noodle dish with wide rice noodles, vegetables and a spicy sauce accented with Thai basil. I can't wait to go back and try more as I found these dishes exquisite; some of the best Thai food I've found in the Chicago area! We even met the owner.
