Mama Thai was recommended to me by a coworker some time ago. I'll say it once and I'll say it again: I will forget to turn my panties around when putting them on and wear them inside out all day, but rest assured, I will never forget a restaurant recommendation. It took me some time to visit, but I was bound to check it out eventually since it is within a short radius of the hospital where I work. Looking through the menu, I took an interest in the pineapple fried rice, mango fried rice, grilled salmon, and pad thai. Curiosity led me to the crab fried rice, which also caught my interest because of its unique appearance on the Uber Eats menu. Ultimately, I ended up ordering the pad thai with sautéed shrimp, which appealed to me as an alternative. Whether using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because of the convenience. Most of the time, my orders are completed or nearly completed upon my arrival. By the time I arrived onsite, my order was already waiting behind the counter. Picking it up simply meant confirming my name and order, and I was well on my way. I was very fortunate to find a parking spot right outside the storefront on Madison St. It uses a pay-by-plate system, which requires you to pay either at the pay box or via the ParkOakPark App. Honestly, it is much easier to just use the pay box sitting right outside, but that's just me. Nicely presented in sustainable packaging, I wasted no time digging into the pad thai after snapping pictures of it to share on Yelp. It tasted fresh and featured a satisfying portion size of stir-fried flat rice noodles mixed with shrimp, scrambled eggs, fresh bean sprouts, sliced green onions, a wedge of lime, and finely shredded carrots on top. My very first forkful of the rice noodle stir-fry while in my kitchen was absolutely delicious. In between each bite, I swear my mouth was salivating for more, which felt like a delightful tease. With each forkful, I found myself swirling extra noodles and toppings onto my fork as my taste buds yearned for the flavors. Oh my, yes! My taste buds will surely crave the pad thai at Mama Thai's again. If you've stumbled upon my review and are open to trying new dishes on the menu, I highly recommend the pad thai! Need I say that I enjoyed my meal? I clearly indicated it in my initial review of Mama Thai. Now that we are no longer strangers, I am very open to visiting again, especially since it is within a short radius of the hospital where I work. Mama Thai is a staple in the Forest Park area and I was happy to try it for dinner! We ordered the Pad Thai and Spicy Basil Rice. I did think it was interesting that it was not spicy Thai basil fried rice, like I have had at other places, but ground chicken and veggies with white rice served on the side. Overall the interior was clean and well decorated, and our service was quick. My table mate was able to ask for the spicy basil dish to be "mild" which was appreciated. I was not very impressed with the rest. Met a friend here that was familiar with the area- we both enjoy Thai so she chose this spot. I like a diff Thai rest in Oak Park and I think I will stick to that one... I know many restaurants did a switch to "base price + protein add-on" model, but it was ridiculous here.. What used to be a \$14 all-in dish is now more like \$20+ once you add the meat for $5 extra EVEN TOFU They dress it up so it feels like "customizing," but really it's a stealth price hike... The owner even wished me Happy Mother's Day. Please tip well!!! We just enjoyed a nice quiet lunch - $21 plus tip for two lunch specials and a Diet Coke which I feel is a great deal. Includes a starter, soup and very large main course. We both had pad Thai- one tofu and one vegetable- and they were both flavorful and so large we took home half of each meal entree. Lots of fresh vegetables in both the tofu soup and the vegetable pad thai. The vegetarian spring rolls were delicate and delicious with a sweet plum sauce. Excellent service. Good value. All to say, I've eaten at many many Thai restaurants all over the world. Mama Thai is at the top of the list of my favorites! The food is always delicious, fresh, fast, and flavorful. Today, I was in the mood for lighter fare so I ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, fried tofu, and papaya salad. I thought the spring rolls were overpriced until they came out - four giant rolls on one plate! The tofu was very crispy. The sauce for the tofu and the papaya salad had a nice, unexpected spicy kick. The mango with sticky rice is just the right amount of sweet. I usually get the catfish curry, which is seriously drool-worthy. I don't know how they keep the catfish crispy in a curry, but it's perfectly cooked. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The restaurant is usually quiet at lunch, but always has many takeout orders. The staff is always friendly and appreciative of customers. It really just doesn't get better! read more

Delish!! Stopped by for lunch the other day and ordered one of their lunch specials, the spicy basil chicken. The lunch itself was a good deal but it also came with soup and spring rolls which just made it an amazingly good deal! The service was good, staff were friendly, and the food was yummy. Good and reliable Thai food in the area for a long time. Have ordered takeout here for about 10 years. 90% of the time the food is good. A few mistakes along the way but nothing that made us stop ordering here. Excellent curries, good chicken dishes. Very good crab rangoon, which is called golden crab on their menu. I recommend pickup which is very fast, usually 15-20 minutes after ordering, but they will give you an estimated time based on how busy the kitchen is. We had the green curry which was delicious and had just the right amount of spiciness. Chicken satay as an appetizer was good and love the pad Thai. Peanut sauce was fantastic! Presentation was nice. This was bizarre. It's like Thai food with very minimal seasoning. I've eaten in many Thai places and never come across one like this where it's on par with a Thai frozen meal for white people in the supermarket. I hated it. The shrimp were large and the veggies fresh but it was like even the spice that was in there wasn't mixed so you'd have nothing then a bite of too much. They did bring the right items but they were so far removed from how every Thai place I've ever eaten at in my life makes it that if I didn't know I wouldn't even recognize them. For starters, MAPS said it was open till 9:15, but Yelp says otherwise, and with the closing time in mind of 9:15 we arrived at 8:25, with the intent of only having soups and one appetizer, but were informed upon arrival that they're only doing take out, which was a bummer. Nonetheless, we ordered 2 tofu Tom yum soups, golden crab, and a chicken noodle soup, to say the least, the food was VERY disappointing and tasted rushed; the mushrooms and onions were raw, the broth was quite bland, and it felt like it was missing more key ingredients (from previous experiences here, they've done much better on the Tom yum) Which is very sad for a pregnant woman who was craving it. read more

I recently ordered their chicken pad Thai, and was slightly disappointed by their chicken, or lack there of. In the past, they used to give pretty decent portions of your choice of meat, but with my most recent order, i had to really dig to find a few pieces of chicken. It was mostly just noodles.
