What more can one say about this cozy neighborhood gem tucked into the Mekong Palace Shopping Center? Khon provides a clean, comfortable spot to play darts, drink wine or beer and enjoy his tasty treats that are provided at no charge to (paying) patrons. Khon's is a simple oasis. There's a wide selection of beers and wines. The food is grilled outside on the parking lot/patio that Khon sets up each and every day just outside the front door and below the watchful eye of their logo, the flying pig. Khon is a gregarious bar owner who knows his customers well. He genuinely enjoys the time he spends at his establishment chatting with regulars and welcoming newcomers. If you are every in Midtown and want to try a different bar with friends I can recommend Khon's without reservation. Any night of the week you can enjoy cold beer and sparkling conversation with a nice cross section of Houstonians from all walks of life.

Kohns is a community! I really enjoy coming here and I always feel comfortable to party or relax. The Friday/Saturday bartender Samantha is attentive and friendly. The bar is clean and offers a small but well rounded selection of beer and wine. I highly recommend you try Kohns if you're looking for something new.

Reply I received from the owner. Highly uncalled for and pathetic. Pho closes after all are finished eating by the way.

I experienced this side of the business during the early phase of the Covid pandemic back in 2020. At the time, during lockdown, going to a wine bar or wine shop just wasn't top of mind. However, I had researched a Cabernet Franc (red wine) called Nicolas Reau Enlèvement Demandé Anjou [Vintage year: 2017]. Reau is kind of a rebel working in the Loire Valley of France who is interested in producing organic, biodynamic wines that are essentially closer to nature and processed differently--more artisanal, so to speak. I read about this wine and wanted to find a bottle locally, which wasn't an easy task as I recall. This is where Vinology comes in. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but had to have a bottle of this excellent wine. Like many people, I preferred to stay indoors during the early part of the pandemic and was kind of nervous about going out. When I called Vinology, I expressed my dilemma, and the guy on the other end of the phone came up with a great solution. He offered to deliver the bottle of wine I purchased to my address. I actually met him at the edge of the garage entrance to where I live. This was great, exceptional above and beyond service. I will always treasure and remember Vinology and plan to support the business more in the future. Hats off to the folks who own and run this wine establishment.

Wonderfully curated wine list at every price point, and there's something to satisfy any occasion and mood. You can take bottles to go, drink wines from their retail shop on site, or order by the glass. Our summer time drink is the eponymous June's Rosé - nothing beats the vibe of sitting outdoors in the the early evening, under the canopy and amongst the greenery, sipping on a chilled bubbly, while feeling the waft of a gentle Houston breeze right as the sun sets. Pair that with their meat and cheese board, and I am in heaven. Their HH from 2-5pm is also one of the best deals in town, although it can be crowded and hard to find seats at times. Also insider tip: they make THE best canelé in Houston - such a surprise given they are not a dedicated pastry shop (try it if you don't believe me, and tell me I am wrong). ____________________ Personal Montrose Wine Bar Power Rankings (as of Oct 2026): 1. We recently came here with friends wanting to check it out for the first time (even though they are…read moresadly closing in just a couple of weeks). I've had my fair share of Paulie's but never had the chance to come to Camerata...until now. I had been missing out for so long! We journeyed from white to red wines throughout the night. We started out with the Babylonstoren, a chenin blanc from South Africa. We then moved into pink (rose) with the Ana Beirut - a blend of cab sauv, syrah, and tempranillo grapes with a bit of skin contact to give the wine the pink color. Lastly we ordered the Guelbenzu - a red blend of tempranillo, cab sauv, syrah, and graciano. This full-bodied red was the absolute fan favorite of the table. Food options are on the light side: meat & cheese boards, bread, and small bites. We started out with the warm bread - while it's normally served with butter, there's an option to switch that out with olive oil & herbs which is what we did. We then went for the meat & cheese platter. We couldn't decide on which meats or cheeses, so we did the option of ordering all 8! This came with 4 delicious meats and 4 tasty cheeses (from Houston Dairymaids), also with crispy fava beans, olives, pickles, and bread. This was a good amount for our group of 4 to share. Elena was our server and she was absolutely OUTSTANDING. She vibed with us throughout the night and made sure that we were well-taken care of. I loved her energy along with her vast knowledge of wines. We got plenty of good recommendations from her during our time there. I'm super sad that Houston will be losing this gem permanently at the end of the year (and even more sad that I only discovered it in the last month of its existence). While I know that owner Paulie won't be moving this venture to a new spot, I do hope a descendant of Camerata manifests itself somewhere in Houston in the coming years.

It's part of the Paulie's Restaurant brands, but completely separate from the restaurant from what I could tell. Parking is a bit difficult, but after a bit of circling we were able to find a spot and make our way in what looked like the back entrance. It was very low key, and despite the sign, the door seemed almost hidden in that back little corner. The staff seemed to have a bit of a hipster vibe-- not unexpected given the Montrose area-- but were very friendly. They offered suggestions, but let us go with what we wanted to try. There's a food menu along with the drinks, but we were heading to the restaurant next door, so we passed on grabbing food. We ended up going with a couple of glasses of red and a couple of the specialty chocolates. My wife loved her salted caramel chocolate. I enjoyed my peppermint chocolate. For the glasses of wine, I've got better at home for bottles the same price as those glasses. My wife really enjoyed the vibe, but even if this place wasn't about to close down, I'm not sure I'd be coming back here often. It's just too hard to park.

Unfortunately, after one of my classes there, I forgot my shoes that I had changed out of and I called them to see if they could look and they were very rude and hung up on me because they simply said no we can't do that. So I quickly messaged the instructor, knowing his classes were still going on, and not long after he messaged me back a picture and said are these your shoes and I'm so happy he did that because I don't trust this place to have cared, but to also have even looked after the class was over. He kindly left it with the staff there and let me know so I called and they were very rude and snappy to say "Yes OK?! we have them". I was unable to go that following week to pick them up so I went a little over a week later and I just wanted to call to confirm they were still there and the person again was very rude and simply said "YES WE ALREADY TOLD YOU A WEEK AGO THEY WERE HERE AND YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE COME TO PICK THEM UP SO IF YOU DIDN'T THEN THEY MUST STILL BE HERE!" and hung up. Since I was making the commute out there in traffic on a Friday with my daughter I decided to call back and ask that they confirm that they're still back there and the same gentleman answered, and very rudely said " LISTEN WE ARE NOT A SHOE STORE. SO NO WE ARE VERY BUSY!" and to no surprise been a surprise HUNG UP right after that. When I got there, there were tables open and the bartenders greeted me and clearly did not know. I was the same person that they had been very rudely talking to so I asked about the shoes he went and got them and I asked if he was the gentleman I had taught you on the phone and he couldn't even look me in the eye but still said "no". However, I recognized his voice and clearly knew it was him. This place is not only is very expensive for drinks and food, but the staff being the way they are no customer should ever be treated like this. I was not rude, was not angry, and yet was treated with such little respect. There are a bunch of other, really nice places with the same vibe and much nicer stuff that you can give your money to on a night out. **Update: completely disagree with your response, and the fact that you can't take ownership for the way that your staff talks to customers is exactly why I feel my review is very valid. I did not call 8 times. These were not house slippers. Also, some additional notes you made are not true.**
