Communion was, without a doubt, the best restaurant we visited during our Seattle trip. Located in…read morethe Central District, the food beautifully reflects the culture and creativity of the neighborhood. I was so excited to see Lao sausage on the menu, I knew we had to get that. The clams and mussels with Lao sausage were hands down my favorite dish - so savory, unique, and packed with flavor. I know it would be something my mom would have loved to try! The collard greens with neck bone meat were another standout. Every bite was unforgettable. The wait here is no joke, so I highly recommend making a reservation. I think we waited an hour and half to get seats for two, but worth it! We were fortunate enough to be seated after closing, and despite the long wait, the staff remained incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Their hospitality made the experience even more special. So shoutout to the staff! The only dish that didn't wow me was the trout - it was a little mild and could've used a squeeze of lemon to brighten the flavors. But honestly, everything else was some of the best food I've had in a long time! And I am a real foodie. If you appreciate cultural fusion, Communion is an absolute must visit in Seattle!

Unfortunately, tonight's experience was extremely disappointing, specifically because of the service we received from Darlene. We tried the shrimp yakisoba in addition to our wings and mozzarella sticks and unfortunately did not like the flavor of the yakisoba. The frustrating part is that Darlene only asked us one time if everything was okay--and she didn't even come to our table. She asked while checking the thermostat, and at that point we had only eaten our wings and some mozzarella sticks. We had not even tried the yakisoba yet. We waited approximately 15 minutes for her to come back and check on us, but she never did. I eventually went to the counter to get a box. Since she never came back to our table, we also went to the counter to pay, which is different from our previous visits where we were checked out at the table. We explained to Darlene that we didn't enjoy the yakisoba because of the flavor. Instead of simply acknowledging the feedback, she responded rudely that we needed to tell her when she checked on us so it could have been fixed. That was frustrating because she never checked on us after we actually tried the food. How were we supposed to tell her we didn't like something when we hadn't even tried it yet? Then, when I went to tap my phone to pay, Darlene said, "But you're not paying for it, so it doesn't matter." I told her she was being rude, and rather than de-escalating the situation, she began arguing with me and made it seem like we were somehow at fault for not saying anything during the first time she asked. We asked to speak with a manager, and Darlene told us that she was the manager. We weren't upset simply because we didn't like a dish. We understand that not every menu item is going to be everyone's taste. What we expected was basic customer service and an opportunity to actually communicate our concerns. Instead, we were blamed for not reporting an issue that we literally hadn't discovered yet, followed by a rude response when we attempted to explain it. The wings are still excellent, and we've had good experiences here before, which is why tonight was particularly disappointing. Unfortunately, Darlene's handling of the situation left a much worse impression than the food itself.

From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home thanks to Dom, one of the owners. He was an excellent host and a true professional who went out of his way to make our group of out-of-town guests feel welcome. The food itself was fantastic. The wings were great and cooked to perfection, coming out incredibly crispy on the outside while remaining juicy on the inside. Since we love a little heat, we tried the Habanero sauce along with the Reaper sauce. Both delivered a serious, flavorful kick that satisfied our craving for spice. To wash it all down, we paired the wings with an excellent local beer on tap, which rounded out the meal perfectly.Finding a spot that nails both the food and the service can be rare when traveling, but this place knocked it out of the park. Some of the best wings in Seattle. I had a snack size (5pc) of the original (naked) wings. Juicy and perfectly fried. I think the best way to judge any wing is how good they are without any sauce. I'll try some more flavors later. Good banh mi. The bread was excellent. However, the "grilled pork" option was puzzling. Tasted good, but was more like a char siu than a traditional lemongrass grilled pork. There wasn't any char-grilled flavor. It was still good though. Nice crisp crust of the bread without being too sturdy, if you know what I mean. Lots of other stuff on the menu I want to try. I didn't go for any of their house-made drinks. But I'll at least try a lemonade next time. Very pleasant and ample seating. A few outdoor picnic style tables and some nice tables inside with big windows. It's a nice space. My only gripe is the usual one. Seattle prices. The wings plus banh mi and a soda came to $30.50 with tax and tip. (I did have leftovers for later, so I did get a meal and a half out of it). The tipping options START at 20% on their point-of-sale (POS) tablet. There's probably a custom option, but I didn't bother since I normally tip 20% anyway. But it's a little pushy to start your tipping options at what is usually the upper limit for most people. This place is solid. I'm sure it's a godsend for tenants in the nearby apartments. And being centrally located, it's really not hard to get to. Next time your going to or from the eastside via I-90 bridge...go a few extra blocks north and get your grub on here.

Overall I thought the sides were delicious with generous portions - I've never had a roll like theirs and it was puffy and perfect; the potato salad was fresh and spiced nicely, and the baked beans were also fresh, warm, and not mushy. My issue came with the chicken. While the fry quality and crisp was great, there was absolutely no spice, not even salt on the pieces. I wonder if they just forgot, or maybe it's expected that customers salt their own chicken at the counter, or maybe they looked at my white husband and assumed he couldn't handle spice beyond ketchup. Either way, there was absolutely no flavor to the chicken. I don't even care for KFC but my mind immediately went to the 11 herbs and spices my mouth was missing out on and wept. I might give them a try again or take my ass next time to the closest Popeyes in West Seattle - at least their version of plain still has that something something on it!
