Great Marketing, Terrible Food -- Fooled Us Twice. Never Again…read more I'll give the owner credit for one thing: he is a tremendous marketer. His TikTok videos make the food look incredible. In fact, his marketing is so good that he's convinced us not once, but TWICE, to give his restaurant on 75th Street in Darien another chance. Unfortunately, the food doesn't come remotely close to living up to the hype. Our first visit was several years ago, and the food was so underwhelming that we barely remembered it. Everything was bland, with absolutely no depth of flavor. The only thing we could taste was heat. No seasoning, no flavor, nothing memorable. We never went back. Fast-forward several years, and the owner starts heavily promoting his new Chicken Caesar Wrap on TikTok. Once again, the marketing worked. We decided to give the place another shot. I picked up two Caesar wraps and fries, hoping this time would be different. It was actually worse. Let's start with the fries. They were hard, stale, completely unseasoned, and practically inedible. Absolutely disgusting. But the real embarrassment was the $15 Chicken Caesar Wrap that the owner has been promoting so aggressively. WHERE WAS THE CHICKEN? I'm not exaggerating when I say that one entire half of my wrap had NOT ONE SINGLE PIECE OF CHICKEN. Not one. The other half had a few tiny pieces of what appeared to be mostly fried breading rather than actual chicken. What did it have? Croutons. Lots and lots of croutons. We paid $15 EACH for what was essentially a crouton Caesar wrap. You cannot make this stuff up. Here's what I find particularly interesting. We drive past this restaurant all the time, and despite how popular the owner makes it seem on social media, we rarely, if ever, see a single car in the parking lot. We've often wondered why. After giving this place two chances, I think we have our answer. Great marketing might get customers through the door once. It might even convince them to give you a second chance. But marketing cannot make up for terrible food, poor quality, and customers feeling completely ripped off. If you're going to charge $15 for a CHICKEN Caesar wrap, the absolute bare minimum expectation is that it actually contains CHICKEN. The disconnect between what is advertised on TikTok and what we actually received is astonishing. We feel completely ripped off, and frankly, the experience felt like a scam. The owner clearly knows how to sell food. I just wish the same amount of effort went into actually preparing it. Two visits. Two disappointments. There will absolutely NOT be a third.

In my opinion, the customer service is consistently on the same level as Chick-Fil-A which is thought to be great by the vast majority of people. The food is always fresh and properly prepared. No stale cracking buns, limp vegetables, wilted lettuce, mushy and runny tomatoes, dark brown dried out fries, spongy ice cream cones, etc. Most days I think Buona's stuff is better than Portillo's. Buona has a generous customer loyalty program. It doesn't take many orders to start getting discounts and even free menu items. Of all the restaurants I know of in the area, Buona is one of the best in this regard. In almost 20 years I had but ONE order screwup where I ordered cheese fries and they forgot to put the cup of cheese sauce in the bag at the drive-thru.
