Tried this place today and really enjoyed it. I got a steak taco, a chicken milanesa torta and we shared chips and salsa. The chips were probably the best I've ever had. Made fresh. The salsa was only OK but we added a bit of salt and it was great. One warning: this place is not healthy. Chips came straight from the fryer. This is definitely comfort food so bear that in mind. I also got a large Jamaica to drink and it was giant. But tasty. read more

'went there Sunday early evening, the restaurant was empty. Ordered enchiladas and a chili relleno to go. At home, opened the chili relleno and found it still in the plastic freezer wrap, cheese still hard as a rock. INEDIBLE! So glad I found this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that stop you from visiting. They have a good amount of seating inside. They make their own tortillas for their quesadillas and they have huitlacoche and flor de calabaza!!! I deeply miss my usual taqueria I used to go to in the city, but this has become a great replacement. I modify my quesadilla and add onions, cilantro and lime and it tastes almost identical to my favorite spot in the city. Rice and beans are good and the taco fillings are fresh. The carne asada is my favorite meat so far. They have a large menu and I plan to try their other offerings, but it will be hard to not order my go-to! read more

I keep on wanting to try almost their entire menu, but I find myself having to stick with anything that has chicken- it's grilled to absolute perfection, with an amazing smoke flavor! I ordered Shrimp Fajita. Shrimps were small but taste ok. Rice and beans were ok, too. not too salty, soggy or mushy. Tortillas are home made. Moist and soft. I loved it. Better than average, but nothing special. Servers were friendly and welcoming. Floor, Tables and chairs were clean. read more

Talk about a hidden treasure. I had the address and my GPS going and still blew past it. It's in a strip mall and is barely visible from the main road. But if you find it and go in, I think you'll be fairly impressed. I'm almost always going to approve of a Mexican place/taqueria if all I see are Mexicans or Mexican-Americans working and eating there when I walk in, as they tend to know better than I do what authentic food looks and tastes like. And indeed I was the only Caucasian person in the joint. It's not a big place, but there's adequate seating, you order at the counter, and the food comes quickly. I had three tacos - two barbacoa and one al pastor. I asked for salsa roja with them and got a couple of small cups of what seemed like your standard tomatillo sauce. It was a little spicy, which I like, but for the non initiated, be careful, it'll add some fire to whatever you're eating. Also be careful with cilantro - if you've never had it before, maybe ask for it on the side and try a small amount. Some people are actually genetically predisposed to hate the taste of cilantro - did you know that? Onions are also standard, and I usually order the tacos without them. Everything put together cost like $12, with drink. So I was pleased. Good barbacoa is hard to find for some reason, and theirs was really good, bordering on outstanding. I'd like to come back and try some other things on the menu. I'll bet there are some other treasures in there. read more

Spectacular! Best "costillas en chile" (pork ribs in Chile morita) I've ever eaten in the Chicago area. I've never had something this good in Pilsen, 26th Street or anywhere else in the area. Diverse, creative ...almost exotic menu items. My wife had a mole dish that was outstanding!!!! We were incredibly impressed. Considering that we eat out every day and frequent Mexican restaurants often , that is saying a lot. Will have to find an excuse to head north to this area more often. Kudos to the owners. Walked into an empty eatery with high yelp-filled hopes and eager cravings. In the fifteen minutes it took my guy to decide (for the fifth time) what he was going to is have from the extensive handwritten menu full of invitations to good eats, three groups had walked in, all clearly regulars, and placed their orders - the first of which had started coming out from the kitchen by time we were ready to put in our own requests. Lengua burrito for me. Gorditas and chicken taco for my less-adventuresome guy. Horchata was a must for us - always is. Too bad we couldn't find flautas or taquitos on the menu, as my guy was craving crispy-fried rolled yumminess. Chips and homemade salsa kept us occupied while we waited on our order. My guy alternated between spicy, tangy chip bite and creamy, cool horchata sip - as he says, he's not a spicy meatball. I barely felt the heat. He blames his Irish bloodline. And then food came. A hefty grilled burrito of tender beef tongue slices, filled to the gills with quality ingredients, down to a copious amount of melty, gooey cheese you didn't just see, you could taste it as its own element against the other components. A chicken taco fat with seasoned poultry meat, made not with lettuce and tomato or cilantro and onion, but both, because my guy is a dork like that. The gorditas confused me, since I expected meat topping on them, but their diner didn't seem to mind the absence - he was inhaling everything so fast! We grabbed a second horchata, both because it was so good and because my Irishman needed help with his hot sauce, which he is cutely trying to build up tolerance for. I stopped by today after reading so many favorable reviews. Although I drive South bound on Cass often, this place is hidden from street view. Its located in a small strip mall on the the west side of Cass & 60th St. The place is very simple and only has a few tables. The employees are very nice. Very clean place. I ordered the Pollo en Mole with Negro Mole. ( It's Spicy compared to the Poblano Mole). It is served with Mexican Rice and beans and 5 home made tortillas. Typically you get chicken leg & thigh but I requested chicken breast. I had water to drink. My bill was 11.05. The Mole sauce was delicious! Very flavorful and a bit spicy, which I liked. Poblano Mole is flavorful though not exactly spicy. I do love poblano Mole and my mom used to make it from scratch. The chicken was very tender! The rice was good, fluffy. The beans were especially good because they have something in them for more flavor. Not sure what it is but you will like these beans! In hind sight i should have asked. As much as i tried, I could not finish whole order so now i have left overs! I now have a take out menu and i will definitely be going here again! It is my new Mexican food place! read more

WOW talk about isolated. They have been here for 4 years and there are only 28 reviews. Marmelly is located in a small strip mall on 60th Ave just west of Case Ave. I drove right past it twice even with GPS. The restaurant is in the corner of a strip mall. Their menu items were kind of unusual with 2 menu boards, one was handwritten on an erasable white board with the standard Mexican fare. The other menu had a mix of Mexican food and standard American fast Food like burgers and hot dogs. The food is very reasonably priced w/generous portions, overall the food was pretty good, but nothing exceptional. I ordered a chicken mole enchilada dinner for $8.99 that came with a standard beans and rice. The food was brought less than 5 minutes after I sat down. Evidently mole sauce was their special of the day so it came out very quickly. Good solid food, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here (Westmont, IL), but if was in the neighborhood and had me a hankerin fer some Mexican vittles I would probably come back. read more

And if you truly want to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (which commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla) then come here and have a Cemitas, an amazing sandwich originally from the Puebla region of Mexico. Friendly service but food was lacking in taste. I enjoy rice and beans with my Mexican meals and have to say that they were disappointing. Lacking flavor they were just good enough to eat but nothing more . I tried Al Pastor torta and even though the portion size was more then generous the meat was quite fatty. I am occasionally in Darien for work, from Canada. These small, family run, Mexican places are very scarce north of the border. I found Marmelly through Yelp and was impressed by all the good reviews it received. I had Cemita Cubana for lunch and was very impressed with the place. The sandwich was well stuffed and tasty. The free house made tortilla chips and salsa arrived at my table while I waited. Two hot sauces, green and red were provided with my sandwich. Both were great, ,and had a creamy texture that could have been the result of adding mashed avocados. I noted that there are a number of items on the menu I'd like to try. I will be back. Want tacos? This place is a pretty solid bet. This was a little difficult for me to find initially, as it is located in a very tiny corner shopping center next to two very large strip malls that are all vacant. Their steak tacos were overall pretty delicious. Chips were a bit stale though, table salsa was kind of bland, and the restaurant itself was quite dirty in the dining area. One of the few Mexican fast food restaurants I've visited in Westmont so far. It is definitely a good restaurant for something quick, something affordable, and something casual. The place is clean, and the staff are really nice. Like other Mexican restaurants, this one has a wide selection of dishes on its menu, full of different and authentic Mexican food. The first thing I like about them is their complimentary chips and salsa. It is just like the other chips and salsa I had, but the difference is that I like the salsa, I like how spicy it was, and it just tastes perfect. The service is also fast, although we just ordered tacos. The portions of their tacos are not big or small, and I think they are just the right portion for their price. The tacos are definitely good. I ate different tacos and everything was good with the right spices, flavor, and freshness. read more

I have enjoyed the food at Marmelly the couple of times I've visited. This is the homey sort of Mexican restaurant that every community would be lucky to have. There is nothing even a little fancy about it - it's just good food, made with care by a friendly crew. My most recent trip, I had a Milanesa (steak). I opted for the housemade corn tortillas, which were awesome. The gratis chips and salsa were both fresh (the chips straight from the fryer). The Milanesa was tasty, and the avacado wedges were a nice touch. The bottled house salsas were both great. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in the vicinity of Westmont, you would be hard-pressed to do better. Fancier yes, equal maybe, better no. read more

Literally the WORST Mexican food we've ever had. Sad, because it's so close to home , had it been edible we likely would be regulars. Stopped in last month to check it out, placed our order and waited...looked around at 10 tables with dirty plates everywhere. Entire restaurant just felt dirty and unorganized, with a peek into the kitchen from behind the counter...I'm not sure how they pass restaurant inspections. Tacos and burritos. I'm just not sure how it's possible to mess that up, but they did. Burrito tasted like unseasoned flavorless hamburger meat. We were starving but literally could not stomach it and threw it all away. I would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone , I truly don't understand how they do any business. read more
