Great ski area with lots of varied terrain. Definitely kid friendly with Kidtopia area. There is first come first serve free parking and a few close in lots. The Gondola at the base is awesome and you can even download from the top. You can also purchase a pass to ride the gondola to the lodge up top for lunch and not ski. They have lessons and ski or snowboard rental at the base area. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and Starbucks at the base. You can find most anything you need and there is plenty of lodging too. read more

Keystone Resort - Ski Resorts Near Me - Keystone, Colorado

Warning: this is a long review geared toward beginners. The first two and last paragraphs sum up my review for Keystone. Being new to Denver we thought let's get a season pass to Keystone /A-basin. We invested in used equipment which is far cheaper than renting equipment, if you plan to go more than once. Buy good used equipment on offerUp or during off-season at Ski shops. Keystone is charming and it's got a lot of runs / trails. It's almost as charming as Vail, but less upscale - don't get me wrong it's still fancy. Also, you won't find yourself fighting for a space to snowboard/ski and there are several trail options for beginners. The staff are so nice, safety is a high priority and they gladly share advice! Tons of nice restaurants, Starbucks, bars and souvenirs shops. It's not huge either so you can get familiar with the Village fairly quickly. Parking is super easy and convenient. If you beginners want to have a fun, safe time than I recommend this: Renting Equipment: if you are renting equipment and not buying anything (see above) than rent from Christy's sports inside the Village. If you go online 24 hours beforehand you will get even more discounts on rental fees. Invest in some goggles, you can get a cheap pair for $30-$45. And you want to rent helmet with MIPS. MIPS has special technology to protect your brain. believe me you will be wiping out hardcore on the slopes as a newbie. Protect that noggin, because you are special and important! Avoid Keystone Sports, it's super expensive with super long lines. Trust me, it's the same equipment no different. Arrival: park on the River Run side and arrive by 9:30 am. It's easier navigating the Village when you get there early. Plus if you plan to take a class they tend to start around 10/10:30ish. Do your best to park close to a wagon station - esp. if you have more than 3 people and you are bringing equipment. The wagons are handy when hauling your equipment from the parking lot to the Village. Navigating the Village: The Village is just like a small town Main Street with stores, restaurants, coffee shops, etc...You'll find all the walking paths will lead you to the summit gondola area. For me, I like to rent lockers. It's cold out here man! And those boots hurt your feet. You are going to want to change into your comfy shoes. Oh yeah, bring comfy shoes (of the Uggs nature)! After you have your equipment then head to the lockers in the Ski School building, in the same place as Keystone Sports. Lockers come in $10 (fits about 3 pairs of boots, bottled water and a wallet), $15 (double the $10 size) and $30 (a family of 4-5 can fit items). The reason I'm telling you is because you can't check out the size before you buy. So now you know. *Ting* They take credit cards. Ski / Snowboard School: Keystone's got a monopoly on ski and snowboard classes. You sign up for classes or check-in in the same location as the lockers. I didn't take a class - I'm a glutton for punishment plus I watched snowboard YouTube videos (check out Snowboard ProCamp specifically this video: https://youtu.be/S0kX1JeecSQ). I have taken 2 lessons in the past to be fully transparent, but I'm still a beginner. Also keep in mind the kids Ski School is in a different place than the Adult Ski School. The kids' is closer to the gondola area. To the slopes: A quick note on the runs. I'm sure you've heard of people doing double black diamonds and ripping it up, right? Well, this ain't you. Lol. Keystone has green (easiest), blue (harder) and black diamond (scary!). This is Colorado, even the green runs require some technical skills. This is important to note, because there are tons of runs - know the color so you don't mistakenly get on a run that you aren't trained to tackle. After you leave the lockers, you got your gear and finally were able to shove those feet in your boots (oh it's going to be a struggle, so persevere!). Now you are ready to ski/snowboard. YOU, beginner, will be heading to the beginner runs. Leave your wagon by the offices in front of the gondola and hop on the gondola (super fun!) and you are going to the Summit all the way to the top of Dercum Mountain 11,640 ft above sea level - whoa baby!). It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the top - there you will find the three slopes for beginners: two runs in The Learning Area (aka the bunny hill, the easiest) and a run called Scout (a longer easier run for you to practice, slightly harder). This is a great place to start and this is where the ski school trains kids and adults. You stay here. Lol. Well that's it. Hopefully, this will save you time (and money) from bumbling around trying to figure stuff out. I shared all my insider tips, so you can maximize your time on the slopes. I hope this helps any new beginner and I love Keystone because it's so friendly to newbies and you can have a great day trip or vacation here. Have fun shredding up the po po (I think that's right?!). Peace. read more

Filled with power-tripping yellow jackets who couldn't pass a community college entrance exam and had to settle with their current job. They want to feel important and inflate their minuscule ego. Saw them pull over multiple people for "speeding" as multiple others cause near-crashes while the yellow jackets have a chat with the people they stopped. Though their job title implies such, they have no regard for actual resort safety. If you do decide to go to this resort and you are about to be pulled over by a yellow jacket, do yourself a favor and continue to ride past them. I've done it multiple times in front of their faces and haven't had any pass-pulling as a result. Be warned that if you do decide to stop and chat with them as you're getting pulled over, you run the risk of having your pass pulled or being forced to take a "safety" class (which I'm DEFINITELY sure people listen to, Keystone). read more

I am a fan of Keystone, but I have experienced better, so let's go with 3.5 stars rounding up to 4. I mean, I really do go to Keystone quite a bit because it's so easy to get to. I like to avoid the tunnel no matter what and don't mind driving 7 extra miles past A-Basin to get to Keysone. Sweet free parking, fast lifts from the base (including a gondola and a regular high speed), and decent terrain all around. One thing that really gets me though is that on the front side of the mountain, there is really only ONE trail where everyone ends up. So it gets chopped up and icy pretty early on in the day.... I like the backsides/mountains mostly - Outback in particular is great. I'm sad it's closed for the season. Nice little village, friendly people, and overall a pretty decent resort experience. read more

Amazing resort! The slopes are so much fun. I only tried the green and blue but the views are worth going on all if you can. The shopping area is super cute too! OMG! One of the best! The runs are super long and challenging, which made the gondola / lift rides totally worth it! I have to say though, because of the long lift rides, i got cold sitting on the lifts! LOL the runs looked like they are vertical drops from the edge, but once you started, they are actually manageable. The view on top of the mountains were gorgeous, esp the sunset! you can oversee the range of the mountains from afar! read more

Great skiing but more than that great summer activities! We love taking the gondola up to the two restaurants on the Outback side. Unfortunately the "yellow jackets" are ruining this place making it a school zone. I don't think they want adults here. It's turning in to an extremely slow kids zone everywhere. I've been coming here for two decades and it gets worse every year. I think Keystone would prefer if we just walked down the mountain. Would that be slow enough for you Keystone?? Extremely disappointed. Might have to just go to Vail where I can actually ride without being in a school zone. The yellow jackets must have never skied or snowboarded before because they have NO idea what fast or slow is. read more

This is one of my favorite places to ski, and will be reviewed from the perspective of a skier who started late in life and therefore prefers long, groomed bomber runs. Keystone is really not a good place to learn. They have the usual classes, but the greens and blues here are way too much for a beginner to handle--go to Copper or A Basin instead. This is a fantastic mountain for intermediate skiers, and when its not crowded or icy offers great options. Night skiing--I have never really enjoyed this much. It's very cold and hard to see upcoming changes in surface. In March it's a lot better, though, warmer with more light and is worth doing if you can't get there in the daytime. Runs to avoid--River Run, Mozart, and Flying Dutchman, all of which are clean fast runs in their own right, but which get chopped up by huge numbers of skiers as the day goes on. On the front of the mountain Jackwhacker and Wild Irishman are the least populated and fastest runs, and if you can ski fast near the trees offer good powder all day long even on weekends. The ultimate Keystone experience is to arrive early and get to the front of the lift line. Always ride the Summit Express lift rather than Gondola or the lifts at Mountain Run, because its faster. Once you get off the lift, race to Mozart--which is an amazing fast, big run when it is fresh. Then immediately go to top of North Peak, exit right, and go down Spillway. With fresh tracks, an unbelievably fast and scenic run. Then get on lift to the Outback. Get off lift fast and go down Elk Run as quickly as possible. Freshly groomed, this is an amazing bomber run. Usually I will do twice, and then go back up and hit Porcupine twice, especially since this scenic and fast run gets little traffic. Hopefully by this time you have done 7 or so runs on fresh tracks and your legs are still strong. Go back to to North Peak and hit Star Fire a couple of times. This run can be icy, hard, and rough when conditions are poor, but its so big that, if you can ski fast by the trees, will have great snow all day. You can really let go on this run. There are two other runs I potentially love, but which are dangerous as shit and cause massive numbers of casualties by those who get in over their heads. Diamondback and Go Devil are steep blacks that are icy 90 percent of the time. But when they are soft, they offer steep, fast, and exhilarating skiing that true speed merchants love. Doing them later in afternoon a dicey proposition, though, once sun fades, as they ice up quick. If you want to ski trees, hike up from the left of the first gondola, or better still, get a lift from ski patrol--this is where they go for powder. For bowl action, you have to go to the Outback--which is scenic but not at level of Copper, Vail, Breck. read more

A few weeks ago my friends and I had planned a couples cabin trip. One of the activities on our itinerary was to experience tubing at keystone resort. The morning of our tubing adventure the freeway were closed due to multiple car accidents as a result of the inclement weather. We had to pull over to the side of the road and wait for the freeway to open back up. By the time the freeway did finally open back up, it was hours later and we missed our scheduled appointment. We called to explain the situation to someone however he said there was nothing he could do and offered no refund. We are highly disappointed that we did not get to enjoy the tubing excursion but even more disappointed that we are out of $450 total for something that was out of our control. read more

Wow this place is gorgeous. There is so much to do and the amenities are amazing and geared specific to the ski and snowboard community. The town center is equipped with many fire pits that invite congregating in the sun or provide a bon-fire feel in the evening. There are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, clothing stores, and general stores available. All of the staff are incredible friendly. They even had a little parade come through the town center that was great for kids. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting Keystone to ski or snowboard. read more

Keystone Resort - Plenty of little shops selling gear for the slopes. - Ski Resorts Near Me - Keystone, Colorado

Full disclosure - I am a former Keystone ski instructor (many years ago), and made my first trip back in about 12 years. I'm glad I returned, but I am relieved that I did not ski more than 2 days here. (I skied the Basin, Loveland, and Ski Cooper as well on this trip and would recommend any of them very highly - I hope to post reviews on them soon). I intentionally stayed away on weekend days to avoid the crowds. Parking at River Run was easy, but the River Run base area has that crappy Vail feel to it; it's too fabricated and lacks any soul. Unfortunately, the rest of the resort has gone in the same direction. I felt like I was at Disney without the mouse ears. The terrain remains outstanding with some of the secret stashes still remaining secret, and they do a terrific job grooming. Lift service is fast with they did the right thing by moving the gondola base back a few hundred yards to mitigate crowding. Never-ever skiers will like the mid-mountain learning area, and can also spend time at the beginners' area at the summit. There is plenty of beginner terrain (green circle/easiest) on the front side of Keystone Mountain, including the 3.5 mile long Schoolmarm. The strength of the resort (terrain wise) remains intermediate (blue square/more difficult) runs that includes advanced (black diamond/most difficult) runs that were formerly classified as intermediate. Sadly, this intermediate terrain attracts a number of knuckleheads who ski/ride out of control at speeds well beyond their abilities. I did not have to deal with this type of clown/gaper/spore at the other places I skied on this trip. Not too far behind the intermediate terrain is Keystone's steeper, tree, bump, and bowl terrain. I highly recommend taking Diamondback (instead of Mozart) from Keystone to North Peak to avoid the crowds and the long runout to the lifts. Pack water and food to spend the day on North Peak and the Outback. Definitely consider hiking when the conditions are good. I was disappointed that the ski school required 48 hour notice to take lessons. I was told that this was due to COVID, but really? Also, they were only offering classes up to skill level 6. DUDE ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Here I am, willing to pay good money for lessons, but you won't offer them above a 6? Speaking of paying good money, I found far better value at other nearby places as opposed to paying Vail Associates pricing for passes/tickets. Bottom line: this is the place if you like the resort feel. It's got a decent, self contained base area at River Run with most of the amenities you would want for a vacation. If you want a place where you can ski without the slick commercial feel, then definitely look elsewhere. read more

I live in Denver, and found that many locals enjoy Keystone, mostly due to being only 1.5 hours from downtown + free parking that's conveniently located literally across the street from the lifts themselves. We left Denver at 6:15am, on the lifts when they opened at 8am, then back on the way home by 12:30p after having an awesome beer on the mountain. Both ways we skipped all traffic; certainly the way locals do it! read more

While I usualIy dedicate time to good reviews and just ignore bad service, based on my latest experience I will being doing both in 2022. Reason: Bad Service or products waste people's time, money and pose risk of danger to customers and if I can help prevent others from loosing their time, money and put themselves at risk I will. On this note: I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU WASTE YOUR TIME and MONEY GOING TO THIS "RESORT". With this said, I will say that the Rockies are one of the most beautiful places on earth, and we made the best out of this vacation, but you do not have to go to this resort or any to see them. Here are just some of the the BAD experiences encountered: 1. Activities like tubing not available, while they were on other resorts 2. Resort Restaurant options are hyped and priced as 5 star experiences, when they are no different than a Mall Food cart dining experience, the Mall Food cart delivering better quality at a fraction of the price. We went to a restaurant at River Run called Montezume (Zuma). The service provided by the waiter was great, however, one of their main food focus was Steak at over $40. I ordered mine Medium and it came back well done. I sent it back and it came back a little bit above raw (this is dangerous and the Health dept. should inspect this restaurant). If a restaurant main offering is steak and the kitchen can't tell between the different steak temperatures, well maybe that kitchen needs better cooks, especially if you are trying to sell yourself as a fine dining experience, you may need to make a more assertive decision relating to whose in the kitchen delivering the food to your customers. At the end of the day it's about the food quality and delivery. ;) 3. Too noisy with all the ambulance sirens. Folks want to relax when they are on vacation, not feel like they are on a war zone... 4. Accessibility was a pain. For example we wanted to go tot he River Run New Years Event, but did not since we didn't know how we would be able to get back tot he hotel. 5. Overall this resort is too expensive for what it offered. read more

I forgot my pass and was thrilled to know that I could get one pass reprinted a season for free! The customer service was great. The lines were quick. I really enjoyed doing a blue and black run so early in the season. I really appreciate the attention to detail. There is a great spot at the top of the gondola with picknick tables that overlook an incredible mountainscape. To save money, we brought food and enjoyed it on the mountain before heading home. Also, the runs are LONG! Getting on and off ski lifts is my least favorite part of snow sports. It's nice to spend most of my time snowboarding and not waiting to go up ski lifts all day. Great place for beginner and intermediate skiers/snowboarders. I'm not confident on black runs just yet, so I can't speak for the advanced crowd. read more

Horrible customer service. If you are spending a ton of money on a trip for the family, prepared to be frustrated.

Me and the fam had a super fun time here! I don't think we knew what to expect coming into the resort but I think we were pretty blown away! The only small complaint I would have about here is the amount of time it takes to get your rental skis and such. I think it took over an hour for us to get them even tho they didn't seem that busy. But on the other hand, I can tell the resort is well taken care of! There were a bunch of classes going on so that was a bit hard to maneuver around but no biggie! They also have tons on trails for all levels of experience so that's nice! Also, the shuttles back to the condos were very convenient. read more

This is my favourite ski resort in Colorado. It's not the biggest, it's not the most glamorous, it's not the most expensive (or cheapest), but it is one of the best. Its location is near ideal for those coming from the front range, especially Colorado Springs. When I-70 is crawling, you can take 285 the back way into Breck, cross the pass, and you're in Keystone. Same on the way back. Breck sucks for locals, the tourists have overrun it and the mountain isn't very challenging. People know what Breckenridge is, they go there. You aren't going to fly across the country or world to go to Keystone the first time. It's a little nothing resort in the world's eyes, and let's keep it that way. It's part of Vail Resorts which basically owns every mountain worth skiing on. Someone is making ka-ching... But that means with your Epic Pass or even Summit Value pass, Keystone is on the list of places to go. When you get there the mountain is setup as one of the best I've seen anywhere. There are two villages spread across the base mountain. There is a free bus shuttle between the two if you screw up. But that's the beauty of Keystone. There are "only" 3 mountains but they are setup serially. The "front mountain" with the villages is mostly green with some blue. The next mountain back is mostly blue with some green and black. The third mountain, the "back side" is basically all black with some blue runners thrown in. And the runs are really just passed through the trees. A day on the back mountain is always fun and different. Never bored. Also because of the way it is setup, the greenies aren't back there. You're not dodging noobs as you come blowing down the straights or getting taken out by people too scared to fall down and stop. It has a whole setup for food and drink and lounging back there. So once you get to the back, you can stay there all day. Following the theme of awesome layout, all the runs on the back mountain come back together and meet at one spot where the lift takes you up to the top of the back mountain or back to the middle mountain. You can't get lost and you're never worrying about taking the wrong run and ending up somewhere stupid. Likewise on the front mountain, there are only two villages and it's really well marked. You either end up in A or B. And if you screw up, any lift will take you high enough to ski to the right spot, or the free bus. Also the parking is awesome. I hate parking miles away and taking a shuttle. There is a free lot by the base and a couple pay lots. Park and you're within a hundred feet of the slopes. Take that Breck. I'm almost tempted to give Keystone 1-star to keep everyone else away. But this place is the bees knees. read more

If you ski/snowboard faster then you walk you are going waaaay too fast for keystone. I really like skiing here, but it's not my favorite snow conditions, sorry. I have come here four or five times already this season, only to be disappointed in with the snow. Out of my local epic pass resorts, the snow really is the worst here, very icy! Part of the reason is the crowds seem bigger here and there are less runs open, due to lack of snow. This causing long lines and icy conditions. I will be visiting here once we start getting more snow, as it's a great resort and mountain. This place has a good buzz... read more

Blackbear condo #8075. 4th floor You'll be uncomfortably HOT even without heat on. Place needs an updating also. Not worth the money paying in advance for a reservation and finding out that your in the 4th floor when it's too late to do anything about it. Stayed at jack pine last year and had a very nice condo. Also noticed changes in staff. They moved from their office in the Village and didn't communicate that. They relocated their office quite a way from resort. We wasted a lot of time upon checking in due to their failure to update their office location. I will be staying in Aspen next year. Sad that such a once incredible resort has slumped so much. This mountain is no longer friendly to advanced and expert riders. I understand having a structure that supports family friendly in sections of the mountain, but Vail resorts has completely turned keystone into a beginner mountain. It's like riding a Pennsylvania resort where you get pulled over for anything and everything. Ski patrol continues to create and manufacture falsified stories and punish those who have done nothing wrong. Get it together Vail and Keystone. Ya'll are a joke these days. read more

Stayed for 2 nights and 3 days at this resort, and overall it is a solid 4. Our condo was roomy, king beds in both bedrooms, and we had a wonderful patio that opened up out to the lake. All of the amenities were included in the kitchen and bath, we did not lack for anything. I do feel that this resort could be updated with fixtures and finishings that reflect the price, but that's also a ski town for you. We also had delicious food, and I think that you would not be disappointed if you booked an event here! read more

Keystone is beautiful. The mountain is huge with many different options to go too, from beginners to advanced with jumps. It's definitely very pricey. More than $100 a day for a lift ticket. They have plenty of hotels, however, it's also very pricey, therefore, I stayed in Silverthorne and drove to keystone every morning (10 minute drive). The little restaurant area next to the mountain is really pretty and cool. It feels like it's own little town. I prefer Keystone over Breckenridge. I went during December, not the coldest month to go so not a lot of runs were open. Keystone is smaller than Breckenridge, but I liked how long and windy the runs were at Keystone. It does get confusing if your group gets split up and you need to meet at one place. There are several gondolas which are accessed by a particular route. When you call your friends, you have to make sure you meet at the medical hut over here, not over there. This is a review of the accommodations. We stayed at the Expedition Condos at River Run Village for 4 days in number 8592. There was no air conditioning and it was hot and uncomfortable during the day. The kitchen was updated and the pool and hot tub were good. The room was a 1 king bedroom and a pullout couch. There was no closet space and on top of it it was cluttered full of stuff like chairs, iron board, etc. The kids xtra bedding was disorganized and shoved in a closet shelf. The pillows were horrendous and stinky. The bathrooms had dirty old rugs and out dated, and lights burned out in the shower. The blinds on the windows were layered with dust. The floors were dusty and dirty. The furniture on the deck was rusty, dirty and no cushions. The furniture in living area was over sized with no room to move or enjoy. read more

Just came back from 3-days of skiing in summit county area. I'm focused on BLUE runs and found keystone the best resort because for two reasons: 1. It's all downhill 2. Summertime RIP off for Gondola! Family of six staying at a Keystone Property and they want $19 per person to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain... which IF there were things to do once up there it might be a decent deal. However, the only thing up there is a bad restaurant (awful food) and 1 hiking trail. I know times are tough but this is highway robbery. Needless to say we will enjoy all of the other FREE hiking options and choose not to waste $120 on a gondola ride. Keystone should be better than this. read more

Back in the day I was a Breck girl. Now Keystone is my go-to. Yea, that run that's right above the River Run gondi gets completely iced out because beginners decide it's a good idea to keep plowing and sliding down it (Keystone should really mark it more blatantly that noobs have no business going down this stretch). And on windier, steeper terrain, it can get a little rough, too. But good lord, the variety of terrain at this resort is insanity. There are three to four levels of terrain park at any time of the year ranging from the baby park (tiny little kickers, ride-up boxes and rails) to the giant park in late season (the kind of mega jumps that have your heart racing just thinking about them). There are rainbow rails and C-curves and pipes and all sorts of other features. The terrain park has its own lift if you just want to do laps all day. You can also just ogle all the young ones hucking themselves in the air and gracefully sailing down while safely sitting on the Peru Express lift. Not a park rat? No problem. The back bowls are phenomenal on powder days (stay high and through the trees to cut down on the catwalk flat transition time). You like groomers? Keystone's got 'em. You want to take some super mellow runs through trees? They even have designated beginner tree runs. Gondolas are great on cold days. Fast lifts are great on adventurous exploring days. I mean, you can go here 30 times a season (I have) and still not have gone everywhere. Best of all, Keystone doesn't have the ridiculous furs and ferraris of Vail or the weird local'ism or expensive vacationing of Breck. Have I mentioned the night skiing/riding on designated days? It's awesome. Let it storm. read more
