    Beautiful nature in snow blizzard

Perimeter loop for snowshoeing is great . Staff is friendly and helpful. Never done it before, will do it again.

Friendly staff with a laidback atmosphere. Renting one set of gear for the day(Nordic skis or snowshoes) will allow you to try the other set for free anytime that day. Also if you're there before 2pm check out their unlimited homemade soup bar...very good. Finally if your looking for fun with the kids they have tubes you can rent for some old-school tubing.

I needed something to do while my husband and son had fun whooping down the mountain on their skis as I'm a big hater of snow sports. I did some research as the only options were to: 1) sleep in the hotel room all day 2) shop at the Silverthorne Outlet Malls all day 3) take a Summit County Brewery Van Tour which includes going to Backcountry Brewery and drinking beer, then going to Breckenridge Distiller to drink their vodka and bourbon, then heading off to a marijuana place to get lit, then sing karaoke in their van! I'm too old to be mixing drinks and marijuana. I'd probably barf on their karaoke machine or sing so badly I'd make other people barf. I chose the Keystone Nordic Center for their snowshoe rental. They say "if you can walk, you can snowshoe!" That's my kind of speed. There were several tours offered at different times but I felt like getting lost on my own, and boy, did I. Snowshoe rental cost around $23, the trail pass $15, bottled water $3.00 and the Power Bar $2.00 because I forgot to pack those things as I was planning on being out ALL day. I actually walked from 0930 to 1530 in the snow, cursing at times. They give you a map but I've found different people will give you different information, which is helpful. The nice man at the counter told me I could walk all the way to the Keystone Bowls if I wanted to. The nice lady later in the afternoon told me the only snow shoe trail is marked in orange, which the man did not tell me. I'm glad she told me this, because otherwise I would have walked on the black and green trails and pissed off the skiers. If you stay on the Nordic Center property, there is no way you can get lost as the trail is marked with orange tape on the trees. The total snow shoe trail is only 2 miles and takes about 45-60 minutes to do for an average adult, double that time if you have small kids. It makes a nice loop called the "Perimeter Trail" and it starts at the Center and ends at the Center. If you get bored with that, you can rent an inner tube to go snow tubing. Go early though, I heard a lady say she was on a wait list for the tubing. You just have to walk the tube back to the top. I actually had to wander off the property to get to this trail that goes to the Keystone Bowls, which was about 5 or 6 miles. I did get lost as I ended up on the Aqueduct Trail, which is part of the National Forest property, but a nice man in cross-country skis talked me out of going to the Bowls as that was super far and I'd have to use a service road, which involves vehicles, no thanks. The rest of the trail was dotted with yellow streaks and dog poo, which was crappy, because I couldn't really step over it as the bottom of the snow shoe would thwack the top of the snow. There was also a section of the trail that smelled like sewer, which was really gross and out of place, since the trail was so serene and peaceful. I walked about 8 miles that day. The only place you can really rest to sit down is a cool hut on the Nordic Center property along the Perimeter Trail. There's a memorial up there too. If you are hungry, there's a soup kitchen off to the side of the office. It's $11.00 for three different types of soup and bread (all you can eat). There's also a bar that serves beer and wine. The people at the Nordic Center are super duper friendly. I really love them. My husband had to pick me up late and the Center officially closes at 1600 but she told me I could wait inside to avoid the freezing cold. TIPS: - it gets super crowded at times, so go early. - pack your own water and protein bars if you are going to snow shoe or be out all day. - dress in layers. Even in the snow I got really hot and had to lug around my ski jacket, hat and gloves. - they don't have lockers but can hold onto your stuff if you want.

I wanted to try snowshoeing. Took the eco tour for those who didn't need to have any experience. Randy was our guide. Super informative - learned about the ecology, animals, history, etc. Great for beginners - you will stop often but the scenery is worth it. Had soup after in the Bistro. Great day.

There was basically no snow/ice removal starting a few feet from the front steps. Sleep quality here was mediocre. Even though we were on the far side of the hotel, we could hear workers randomly yelling as they arrived in the morning and the same godawful playlist from the village (I think?) starting at 7 AM sharp every day. I don't think I saw a single member of custodial staff the entire time we stayed here. Seemed to be a bit of a free for all with dumb people drinking from glass bottles in the hot tubs, wet towels strewn about the common areas at 9 AM the next day, and an awful smell permeating from the steam room. Still kind of worth it for the cheap price but feels just like the resort itself, like perpetual college night at Killington in Vermont.

Each of the condos at the Springs are individually owned, so some units have been renovated. My remarks are about unit 8825 which is a 1BR with a sleeper sofa. The bed was a double, not Q or K.

I became an expert on this mountain and found new meanings to my love of snowboarding on some great solo days. Great time for anyone of all skill levels, though there is more expert terrain than beginner. Run recomendations: Andy's Encore is the perfect run for anyone at the blue level and even those working up to it. It's a great place to practice new tricks and techniques, and on days where it isn't too busy, the perfect run for catching some solid speed on a controlled and groomed section of the mountain. There is plenty of fun to be had at the Resolution Bowl for those comfortable with more challenging terrain. Stay safe, have fun, and shred on!

We walk up to the gandalas and ask where Green acres is and they say "green acres is closed, the only mountain open was the super tall main one for experienced ppl only. Our card wouldn't even get us a ride on the gandalas and back down. So I went back inside to ask the girl that gave us our snowboard gear if this was the case that the basic slopes were closed? And she replied "yeah unfortunately that is true" I then ask "okay so what are we supposed to do then?" She looks at me and slowly shrugs her shoulders and tells me "idk" ..............................what exactly do you mean you don't know what I'm supposed to do?..... It was then that Miguel at the other counter interjects and says "I can help you with a refund if you don't take the gear up" (he wasn't there originally when the two girls at the counter helped us get our snowboard gear) My thing is yeah obviously I'm getting a refund if I'm not even able to do what the ticket was purchased for? Like DUH you're giving me a refund! That's what the girl at the counter with the bandaid on her chin should've offered in the first place...a solution...a refund. Also these tickets were purchased almost 2 months ago, why allow the ticket purchases if those specific slopes are going to be closed? Let alone no email communications stating as such, no signs up saying anything. Not only that you have to scan your pass to get your boots, they scan it again to get the snowboard and helmet. If you knew the slopes that my ticket was for was closed at the time of you scanning to give me my gear, why wouldn't you say anything? Mind you I flew here from out of town. I think that's so rude and I will never be back here. I hate when ppl in customer service are incompetent and ignorant. We went around to the front and dealt with Julia, she was nice and offered a refund no problem. She then added a trip for us to ride the gandala up.

Our group ran a little late and I ended up being the only person who showed up, and the staff could not have been more patient or accommodating about it. I was fortunate enough to get what essentially felt like a private ride, which made the whole experience feel very personal. They give you a walkie talkie so they can share updates and explain what you're looking at along the way, which I really appreciated because it made the ride feel intentional and educational rather than just scenic transportation. The snowcat itself is super comfortable and cozy. There are seat belts, thick blankets in the seating area, and the heat kicks on so you are warm the whole time. The cabin has large glass panels on all sides, so you can see the forest, the mountains, and the groomed trails without being exposed to the cold. The ride is very gentle and smooth, and they move at a reasonable pace while being thoughtful about cross country skiers on the trail, stopping when needed to let people pass. I found myself completely mesmerized watching the grooming attachment in front reshape the snow and lay down those perfectly clean parallel ski tracks. We stopped at a historic cabin that had been relocated and rebuilt years ago, and it was cozy inside with a guest book and bits of history to read. I ended up wanting to get back into the snowcat fairly quickly because it was so warm and comfortable in there, and the views from inside were amazing. It was quiet, beautiful, and surprisingly peaceful, and I came away with some great photos on my film camera and a super memorable first snowcat experience.

We did the willow (easy) snowshoeing trail which took about 40 minutes and offered beautiful views, a route under the gondolas and being in the trees with lots of cute squirrels. We had so much fun last year, that we returned again, but this time our room was right on the lake…read more How lucky we were because one can sit on the outdoor furniture provided, and basque in nature's glory, morning and night. The room was clean, cozy and inviting; decorated like a mountain cabin with doo dads and knick knacks in various hunting and winter themes. The kitchen is small but functional, and the refrigerator is large enough for a week's worth of food. I brought my own cooking utensils and enough food to feed my clan. I can write a book on left over creations, which became a new theme each night. Waking up to the site of the lake each morning, with ducks and geese swimming over glistening ripples of water right before my eyes, was breathtaking. The staff literally runs over for anything you need. They have made improvements in the last year, such as; a fully functional staff at the registration office on route 6, accompanied by refreshments and granola bars, after a long drive. (Not a wide eyed teen who's intimidated by questions.) They provide a map with accurate and detailed directions to your condo and unit. Multiple keys are given for your convenience without asking, AND they provide 24 hour staff support to their guests. I did find one flaw, and it's a safety issue for young children. The pilot light remains on in the fire place, and it's large enough to appear as though the fire place is on when nightfall arrives. Couldn't find the switch to turn it off, so I called the staff late into the night, and two qualified engineers from the property management arrived. They turned the pilot light off, per my request, which involved reaching into the fire place itself to turn a dial. The fire place switch itself was located on a bottom plate of the unit, without any signs. Something you might whack with you foot standing too close to the tv. There is a plaque over the fireplace, stating that intense heat will appear overhead, and to be careful. The problem is that when you open the sofa bed, the coffee table and whatever is on it, is smack dab near the fire place and pilot light. No glass cover protects the user from the flames. Only a hanging metal grate stands alone. Plus there must be some carbon monoxide inhalation from sleeping near an open pilot light. No carbon monoxide detector in the room either. I did have a good laugh when I opened the door late the first night, to the two engineers, as they were handing me back a bible from a publisher not in my musical genre, that we left outside on a brick wall. I refused and was asked if we were practicing a reverse exorcism. I laughed, and answered that if I left that book in my room, I would need a exorcism. If I had known their concern, an improvisational high pitch scream would have left my throat , right before I opened the door. But then I would not have had the pilot light extinguished, or the door would have been hanging by it's hinges from being shouldered in by two strong and brave men. I salute them for being understanding and keeping my family safe from noxious fumes. Obtaining clean towels every day was an easy task with one phone call to the desk, and they provide as many as you need. However, the sofa bed has seen better days, and the masterbedroom's king size bed looks inviting, but giving it a try, my head was lower than my feet. I laughed and pictured my evil counterpart, "Frankenstina," returning after moving heavy furniture, or after sleeping on a worn mattress, the following morning; contorting my spinal structure, and putting me in a foul mood. With a promise of the view coming from the sparkling lake the next sunrise, I took to the floor with my pillow and blanket. Yes I truly am a good camper and can sleep on the ground. But of course it's not really camping with indoor plumbing at my convenience. How very spoiled of me to expect this luxury. Update: be careful of altitude sickness. Anything from a mild headheache that turns to head pounding with dizziness, to flu like muscle aches and nausea. Or insomnia or leg cramps. After my medical emergency in Breckenridge last year, I was fully evaluated and had trained for this trip. I saluted porch sitters as they applauded my hour -long brisk walk around the lake several times. Suddenly I became ill at river run and made it back to the hotel. It's no joke, and please take it seriously. Drink water, rest, and scale back your activities, if you start melting. Nobody wants to be helecoptered to Frisco for emergency heart resuscitation.
