    I created my own omelet....delicious
    Rob C.

Classic family owned restaurant. I visit this location the most, due to proximity to my house. Very satisfying food, reasonably priced. The decor is anything special - standard family diner stlye. But the service is always good and prompt, and the food hits the spot. Very reliable, if not spectacular. Solid, and would recommend. No complaints

My fav all American homemade cooking from scratch from bread to cookies to turkey dinner to breakfast omelets. The best hash browns in the nation! They seem to be very busy at all hours but the food comes out piping hot everytime. I like they have butter cubes at the tables I usually get there very early for breakfast to avoid the long lines or an hour before they close for dinner. Anything in btwn is a really long wait. I like the big booths it feels very homey.

They're always busy during breakfast and lunch. Nice little eating place, more like your mom and Pop store. Always like their turkey dinner. Customer service is good. The place is a little bit crowd what is doable? Nice choice of manual where you can have breakfast throughout the day.

Too early to pick up our eye glasses so we found Keys. Tiny wait, quick service, huge servings. I had biscuits and gravy (Yum!) and Hubby had chicken fried steak. Gosh they were good. So glad we found a Keys this morning!

It's a classic breakfast spot that you will want to come back every now and then. I like simple stuff like French toast, scrambled eggs that made right, this is the place to go. The staff are fast, humble and friendly. We grabbed a couple of scones on way out, yum yum, too good, when i remembered to take photos, they were all gone. Next time!

Keys is great breakfast spot, although I'm not much of a breakfast person, my kids love it whether the Minneapolis, Saint Paul, or Roseville location. Ambiance 4/5 Average diner spot with open kitchen to look in on the cooks (Mpls location). The Roseville and Saint Paul location is a bit bigger than the Minneapolis location. If you like a cozy down home feel, the Minneapolis location for sure. It gives Roseanne bar and I'm here for it. Service 4/5 Average service, nothing to write home about, but will do. Food/Drinks 4/5 Very affordable and great meetup spot for anything to family outing to business meetups. Their mushroom omelet disappoints as there from the can, I feel shortchanged. Price: Affordable. I love they sell the Strawberry jam, its a staple of the restaurant. Great for toast and a light snack. Overall 4/5 parking for Roseville location can be frustrating due to the little parking lot. Don't come midday, that's forsure.

    A pretty neat wall hanging.

Keys has been around since 1975 and remains a popular restaurant in a number of locations. Unfortunately, they closed the two locations that were closest to me, so it's been a minute since I've been to the one in Roseville. The place has an attractive and comfortable vibe to it and it's the kind of place you want to linger. We were there for breakfast, since I was craving an omelet and Keys does that particularly well. I was pleased that the waitress brought me a small pot of coffee, along with my coffee mug. This is increasingly rare, but appreciated, since I don't have to track down a waitress for a coffee refill. (The coffee was excellent, btw). My wife and I were there before 8 am, so we were able to get a table right away, although it was filling up fast. My omelet did NOT disappoint. It was exactly what I was craving. The "Build your own omelet" contains five ingredients of your choice. I chose onion, green pepper, ham, bacon, and cream cheese. The quality and quantity were spot-on and couldn't have asked for a better made omelet. It came with wheat toast and strawberry jam. I only finished it because I was so hungry. My wife had the scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. The eggs were well made and the hashbrowns were crispy on the top and bottom, soft inside. All around perfection. The only complaints I have is that the service was exceedingly slow. We were in no rush, so it didn't bother us, but it took well over 30 minutes to get our food from the time we ordered. The other issue was a surcharge for using a credit card, which I'm not a fan of. However, all in all, this was a solid four our of five stars and would have been five out of five except for the two issues I mentioned.

Had brunch with the family and we are from out of town. So glad we had the opportunity to visit I'm still thinking about their pecan pie! The cinnamon rolls and all the cakes and pies make it hard to choose! I can say other family members got whole pies. Breakfast was so good everyone enjoyed their food. Large portions and all were full! We had a great server it was so busy but they handled it well and you can tell it's a family friendly place young and old enjoyed the place!

Our server was super nice and even gave us a discount for giving us the wrong food before we needed to mentioned it. I got the salted Carmel and brownie malt. They kinda lacked the brownie but was still good taste overall. Appetizer: Cheese curds were decent, not super strong flavor but not oily and decent portion. Side of onion rings were pretty good. Again not strong flavor but made well. Upcharge $2 (service didn't mention) Atmosphere: Kinda loud because it's a smaller restaurant and harder to hear the person across from you. Nice older classic decor and look. Been there since 1986. Unfortunately the entree food was not good... Disappointed on the California Burger. Had no flavor. The tomato was bland and soggy, the meat had no seasoning or flavor. The avocado was dull and tasteless, Only good part on it was the lettuce. My boyfriend order the turkey club but didn't get that, the server knew it was the wrong order but still brought it to us. My bf didn't want to say anything, and the server said he took something off the bill (which we thought meant took the sandwich off, but gave us $9 off the bill) Overall. It was a decent, the appetizer, and malts are nice. But I wouldn't go there for the entrees.

We still enjoyed our time and will absolutely be back to try more items on the menu.

Being a breakfast aficionado, I have no idea why it took me so long to get to Al's. My husband, who is out of the house a lot more than me, has been there several times. He has been trying to get me to go there for months. And finally we made it in February. At the time, with all the political things going on in Minneapolis, Yelp actually told me I could not write a review at the time. So I am glad now that I can come back and leave this five-star for them. So as many have said, Al's is about as old school diner as you can get. One line of stools, 14 seats or something like that. Just like Matt's Bar, there's an impossibly tiny grill and the chef makes the most amazing things on it! My husband adores the wally blues pancakes. I do think they are super tasty. They have nuts and berries and are just about the most tasty pancake you've ever had. Get one to share even if you order something else. He got the corned beef hash, which looked like basically everything you would ever want that dish to be. I got the classic benedict (the dish by which I judge all breakfast places). It was SO GOOD. It's an english muffin and a big thick slice of ham, plus the perfectly poached eggs. But the real true thing that makes this dish just baller is the generous helping of hollandaise sauce. Thick and luscious and seriously the most lemony hollandaise I have ever ever tasted. It was so good. I tried to be a lady but eventually was just sticking my finger in the leftover sauce and licking it like a toddler. I would have seriously licked the plate. The guy behind the counter smiled and said, "Yeah, our hollandaise sauce will ruin you." And he was right. Can't wait to go back for another helping. Cash only, no bathroom, street parking. Come prepared. We happened to go close to the 1 p.m. closing time and didn't have to wait at all. Pro tip.

Went right at open, 6am, and the place (10 seats) was already mostly full. It's about as old-timey diner as you can get. Wood paneling, cash only, watching the line cooks work, and a-la-carte menu. Everyone was friendly and I love the inclusive, anti-ice vibe. Unfortunately that's kind of where the highlights end and mediocrity begins. I would describe everything as "fine" but that may be partially due to my pancake preferences. They were definitely the dense and, well, slightly gummy pancakes I don't really like. That's opposite the crispy, lacy ones at Al's and fluffy buttermilk ones at Our Kitchen. Not to mention it's like $3/oz for actual maple syrup. My partner got an egg, sausage, toast meal and it is what says on the tin. I think it's good, and I love the community support from management, but definitely riding the "institutional" status for business. I think I'd prefer Al's if in the area and Our Kitchen if South.

I just expect a bit more if I am going to drop $70 for two lunch entrees and two drinks. Not including the tip. The menus appear to be the same, the spaces are large enough to accommodate big crowds, the service is efficient and friendly, and the food is consistent. The open layout is appealing and fits the "classic diner" vibe perfectly. The other thing they share is HUGE portions. For example, my wife ordered the "short stack with bacon." It sounds innocent enough, but the pancakes are the size of hubcaps and stuffed with what feels like a bushel of blueberries. That's not a bad thing, but my wife ended up taking home about 3/4 of it--which turned into several more breakfasts! By the way, the pancakes were incredibly fluffy and flavorful. I had the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Again, it was a massive portion, but I heroically finished it all. The mashed potatoes seemed scratch-made and the gravy was plentiful. I liked the turkey, though I'm not entirely sure it was roasted in-house. The menu says "real turkey," and while I'm sure that's true, as a bit of a turkey fanatic, the flavor was just slightly different than what I'm used to. Regardless, I really enjoyed it. Fat Nat's clearly has their act together; all three locations are remarkably consistent. For a hearty breakfast or lunch, this place is highly recommended. Pro Tip: Be careful with what children or grandchildren order.
