Tons of amazing options and a great vibe. I had the meat waffle, not anything crazy, but a good time

I recently stopped by this spot for brunch after hearing a lot of good things, especially about their caramel rolls. I ordered the Monte Crisco from the specialty menu and grabbed a caramel roll to go. The sandwich itself was solid--crispy outside, warm and savory inside--definitely enjoyable. The caramel roll, however, didn't live up to the reputation. It was surprisingly dry. That said, the icing was delicious and had great flavor, but it couldn't quite save the overall texture. Unfortunately, what really ruined the experience for me happened after we finished eating. While chatting with my friend at the table, I watched a mouse scurry right past us and disappear into a crack in one of the booth seats. It was quick, but not quick enough to miss. I get that things happen in the restaurant world--it's not always easy to control pests--but this mouse looked very familiar with the layout, like it had done this routine before. I was immediately grateful that my leftovers were already packed, and we made a beeline straight for the exit. No matter how good the food is, something like that leaves a lasting impression... and not a good one. read more

My friend and I really enjoyed this breakfast spot. We ordered the chicken fried steak, meat waffle, beignets, and pineapple nojitos. The chicken fried steak was the best I've had with a nice crust and tasty gravy on top. The meat waffle was confusing -we liked it with syrrup while we ate it but then it just seemed too heavy.. either way its an experience so I'd recommend it still haha. The drinks were good but just a tad watered down or not enough pineapple flavor. The beignets I did not care for at all. They aren't true beignets but a light airy pastry. Overall I enjoyed my meal here and would come back. TIP: Make a reservation even if you're closeby. It can get busy here. read more

Classic and tasty food! Weekdays it's easy to get a table but there is always a wait on the weekend. Recently I came for breakfast on a Tuesday. Tons of open tables and easy street parking. We have driven by Hazel's a few times and always say that "we need to stop there'. on Friday, we did just that. One of the perks of not working a full day on Fridays is being able to find great places to eat. My friend had the Brisket Hash, and I got The Smothered. Let me tell you, we were beyond happy with our choices. I dare say that the Smothered was THE BEST burger I've ever had. Everything about it was PERFECT. The flavors of the mushrooms, onions, cheese, were a perfect compliment to the beef. The bun held everything together and was just as tasty. My friend LOVED the Brisket Hash, as did I after getting to taste a bit. Everything went well together and played a symphony of deliciousness in the mouth. They also make a habanero salsa, which we both put on our food, and it's a beautiful, hot accompaniment to the food. Our waiter was nice and patient (took us a bit of time to narrow down all of the delicious-sounding options), along with being attentive. We will definitely be back for more. read more

First time to Hazel's for a mother-daughter breakfast date. The review for the drunken banana french toast was amazing and so that was I ordered. The bread was overly toasted and so it was a little tough to cut with a fork. The flavor was good but way too sweet. Lacking the cinnamon taste in the flavor of the French toast. The bacon was extra crispy and thick which I like. The server was friendly; however, service was slow as we were tucked in the back. I had high hopes for this spot. Dining outdoors is lovely as the street that Hazel's is on is pretty cute. Service was good, no one left us out there, but we were suggested the monkey bread type item. It was nice and warm but we felt a little pressured because as soon as we sat down, we were asked if we wanted this specific item right off the bat. The coffee was terrible. Diner coffee can slap and this was sort of a slap in the face! The veggie omelete was alarmingly heavy on the veggies, including large pieces of broccoli in it with very little cheese. Made a reservation for outside this past Saturday because inside was a 90 minute wait, I'd definitely recommend reservations if you want to be inside. We got there a few minutes early and were still seated immediately. Outside seating is off the street, but it's quiet enough. Our waitress was friendly and personable, and service was prompt. My friend liked her waffle and eggs, and I did enjoy my egg sandwich. The blue cheese on it and the thyme gave it the right savory aspect, and the sourdough was crunchy and chewy and just wonderful. The hashbrowns could have stood to be cooked longer, but I do love my hashbrowns extra crispy. The mimosas were fantastic and so refreshing! I actually really enjoy the breakfast here as I've been multiple times. Very affordable menu pricing, and food quality and taste has been consistent on every business. Staff is pretty nice, but always busy, so service has always felt a bit slow to me. The biggest issue I have with this place now though is the cleanliness. I'm sorry, but this place is due for a major upgrade. The silverware, carpeting, vents, and dispensers are all in need of major attention. read more

Wonderful American food served in a neighborhood restaurant by competent lovely waitstaff.

First time visit, we were seated quickly and friendly service. Tried the veggie omelet with sour dough toast and hash browns. Only small note is the hash browns were not crispy enough for me and when they cooked them longer it really didn't seem like much more was done. My friend tried the French toast with over hard eggs and ham. The ham was delicious and the French toast was perfectly done. Would definitely try this place again one day. read more

Ever have food so good that you still crave it over a year later? That is Hazel's for me. Back story time. In 2015, I went with my cousin and their family to Canada. We all agreed to stop somewhere for food. Yelp led us to agree to come here. Yelp made a good choice that day. The food was fantastic. My cousin let me try his black coffee. That was fantastic. The server was fantastic. Everyone in the group loved their food. The interior is nice and had a bit of a cafe feel. Not too much seating, but not a handful. Tight fit, but still roomy. I have strongly debated on visiting Minneapolis again... just to have their food. I am a sucker for a good breakfast. Plus, there is a lot to do in Minneapolis... well, that's my excuse if I ever go back. Ha! read more

We stopped in for a friends birthday and had a great time! We luckily had a reservation as they were pretty busy and got seated shortly after arrival. There were so many great things on the menu that it was hard to pick. I ended up getting the meat waffle, a side of bacon, and a side of french toast. All of it was great! I do wish the meat waffle had more cheese but other than that it was exactly what I expected and I added syrup to it. Next time I want to try the pancakes as those looked tasty. read more

Made a same day reservation online on a whim. You definitely need one, but it's more of a spot in line than a reservation. Still a short wait on the weekend. We were seated right by the front door and host stand. There's not much of a waiting area, so if it's full, then everyone waiting to be seated is right next to you watching you eat. Service was fastttt, because once seated you are limited to about an hour. Other small, but popular restaurants in Minneapolis have similar policies. We order a few mimosas, coffee, the breakfast burrito, and the eggs florentine. Not gonna lie, I mostly came because I wanted a spot with mimosas, but the food was well crafted and delicious! This has been a popular spot in Minnesota for quite some time so it shouldn't come as a surprise. With warm wood and a cozy inviting interior, we enjoyed our meal quickly then went about our day. Great breakfast stop in the NE. Stopped by here Sunday morning to catch up with a friend. She made reservations and I arrived early and checked in. The staff honored it to the minute, despite being busy and informed us of an hour limit. Silverware and napkins are at the table, and our gal was Johnny on the spot with coffee refills and follow-ups. The place is super quaint with some fun artwork in the walls. Food: Beignets: These were fried well having a beautifully crispy exterior. Inside was very light and fluffy. Unfortunately they were too eggy for my preference. An order comes with 6 and is perfect to share. Chicken fried steak and eggs: Steak was tender and had a perfectly fried exterior. The gravy had sausage and a good consistency. Eggs cooked well and hash browns crispy. I was on the verge of rating a 4, but the entree and service won me over to round up to a 5. Would definitely come again. I came on a Saturday and it's a cute busy location spot. With a reservation I still waited about 5-10 minutes to be seated. I ordered the peach mimosa, veggie omelette, and a side of crispy bacon. The food arrived quick which was a plus. They have inside and outside seating areas available but the space is limited. I parked in street parking but there is also a small parking lot nearby for businesses. Although the restaurant was busy the service was still attentive. I would recommend! read more

Wow what an amazing little spot. We had to wait about 30 minutes at about 11:30am on a Thursday but I cannot complain. I'd never been here before so I didn't know what to expect but even though they have a lot of basic food options they also have a lot of really cool ones. I ordered the fried egg sandwich and it was so good!! I had blue cheese on it which I'm not the biggest fan of but it still tasted really good. The hash browns are AMAZING, an absolute must get. I met friends for a birthday brunch and Hazel's didn't disappoint. It is a cute spot with a decent amount of parking. They have a decent amount of seating but I would recommend getting a desert cause it is busy. Our server was very friendly and the food was brought out really quick like within 5 minutes of ordering. One of the best brunch places out there! This place has been around for years and there is so much history that is preserved in this beautiful restaurant. Parking can be a little painful as they only have a small parking lot and street parking. If you come here on the weekends, expect lots of people and maybe a wait. But we love their service and food. read more

Hazel's is my "go to" place. The restaurant has a homey feel with high end restaurant food. Everything is delicious but my favorites are the Beet Salad, Swedish meatballs, Greenway and Risotto. If you're looking for some diner like breakfast look no further! Their coffee is delicious and I really enjoyed the pancake. I've been here prior and would say I wasn't as impressed with the brisket hash as I was to their quiche and a few other dishes. Our server was prompt and friendly, which I always appreciate. The seating is a little snug so it feels as if you're sitting quite close to other tables. However; the space is clean and comfortable. I usually really love going to Hazels NE but these last couple of times have been a little jarring and have completely put me off of eating here. Today I went for brunch with my fiancée as it was her birthday and our server was an older woman with white/blonde (?) hair. I think because we're in our mid 20s she thought she could be disrespectful to us, and she was definitely disrespectful to us the entire visit. To start off My sister in law ordered a bloody mary and she hadn't had one before so we didn't know it came with a beer back, the server came and set just the beer back down and left and so we were a bit confused, I turned in my seat to see if she might be coming back and she was in fact walking back to us, but for some reason instead of asking if we needed anything or something polite, she looked at me and went "WHAT?!" I was a little taken aback as I don't usually have servers talk to me that way but I just said oh we were a bit confused, we tried to laugh it off but she made a face at us and left. I mentioned it was rude to my table and they agreed. when she came back to give us our food she didn't say a single word and started slamming plates down. She turned around to get more plates from the Kitchen Pass and I mentioned again to my table that it was a little rude. After I said that she turned around with my fiancée's waffle, she had to reach across me to hand it to her as she was sitting on the inside of the booth. I was completely surprised and taken aback when instead of asking to reach across me or letting us know she needed to hand it over; she put the plate less than an inch from my face and shoved it into my fiancées hands. I could literally feel the heat of the plate on my face that's how close to my face she put her arm, hand and plate. I shifted back completely surprised and instead of apologizing she shrugged and walked away without saying a word. We just kept to ourselves the rest of the visit, we paid our checks but still had some of our drinks so we stayed maybe 20 extra minutes to finish them after we had paid. A minute before we left a man in a black jacket (he works at the restaurant) passed by our table, looked at us and huffed and then looked at his coworker and made a "wrap it up" gesture like he wanted us to leave. No one had asked us to leave or told us they were closing so that was also pretty shocking and super rude. I'm kind of sad they ruined my fiancees birthday brunch and also made us feel super alienated while eating there despite the fact we go almost every other weekend. The wait is super long here so be sure to arrive early! The food was good breakfast food, but it's nothing out of this world. The prices are reasonable and the staff was awesome and accommodating. This is my second time visiting Hazel's. I ordered the burrito and my burrito was loaded with mostly hash browns. The meat and eggs were not evenly distributed throughout the burrito, so at first I thought they forgot about it! Then at the end of the burrito there was some meat. This particular meal was quite underwhelming. The lady that I came with had the brisket hash and she said that was good. The service was decent, same hostess/server we had previously. She's nice. The ambiance was quaint kind of a "whole in the wall" or "mom and pop's shop." Parking can be a challenge if you're looking for street parking, however they have 2 parking lots down the street about a block away. I wouldn't order the burrito again, but I think I want to try those yummy smelling pancakes! read more

We were seated against this tiny nook with my very big sling on my arm. I thought it was an emergency exit which seems bad enough, but no. It was a storage room or something. I couldn't see too much because I was literally squeezed against the door. Employees were going in and out. The food was just ok. Went there for brunch and had a very average experience. The sweet roll was delicious but the veggie omelet was overloaded with tomatoes and had very little cheese or asparagus in it. They overcharged me for some food and had to get approval from management to charge me what was written on the menu. They also asked us to leave after being seated no more than an hour to make room for another reservation, so it's not a place to have a more leisurely brunch. I'll be going elsewhere for brunch in the future. read more

From the first steps into the restaurant you feel like you have come home to comfort food. The menu is good and they have a decent wine and beer menu. They have specials. Be sure to ask for them. Tonite there is a Tuna melt on English muffins with cheddar and Swiss, risotto and many more. We ordered the Cuban sandwich, tuna melt, soup, and risotto. So we have finished dinner. First, Sydney took very good card of us as did everyone from first steps to dine with dinner. Now for the food. The tuna melt. I am a tuna melt snob. It has to be right and this was. The bread was an English muffin that was crisp. When you bite into the sandwich the tomato is crisp, the cheese is melted and the tuna is warm with crispy celery and onion so you get crunch. This is a really good blend of textures and tastes. Everything was very good. The soup was hot. The mashed potato's did not come with any toppings, which I think they need. So, I put a little of the baked potato broccoli soup with bacon in as gravy and it was delish. Donuts were good. Brownies were good and the bread pudding was so good. Enjoy! read more

Hazels is my all time fave for brunch! I've had their brisket hash, hippie cakes, beignets and love that they have alternate to sausage links. I haven't had anything that I didn't like. Wait time during the weekend can take time so do yourself a favor and reserve a table the day before. Once you order though the food comes out in record time. Pretty much wanted everything on the menu but I settled on chicken fried steak with hash browns, eggs over easy. Food arrived shortly after ordering, within 10 minutes. I'll just say it was the best CFS I've ever had. The sausage gravy had a seasoning that set it apart and I'm very happy with my decision. The hash browns were excellent. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Usually when you order CFS, the portion tends to be a little overboard but Hazel's offers the perfect serving size. Plenty of food to fill you up but not make you feel like you need a nap afterwards. The service was on point, very attentive. The waitress seemed to enjoy her job and it showed.
