The Brother's Combo
Tiana D.

Classic and tasty food! Weekdays it's easy to get a table but there is always a wait on the weekend. Recently I came for breakfast on a Tuesday. Tons of open tables and easy street parking. Service was a little slow, but The Brother's Combo was perfect! The French toast is especially incredible.

First time to Hazel's for a mother-daughter breakfast date. The review for the drunken banana french toast was amazing and so that was I ordered. The bread was overly toasted and so it was a little tough to cut with a fork. The flavor was good but way too sweet. Lacking the cinnamon taste in the flavor of the French toast. The bacon was extra crispy and thick which I like. The server was friendly; however, service was slow as we were tucked in the back. The ambiance was loud but quaint with their old tools in display.

I had high hopes for this spot. Dining outdoors is lovely as the street that Hazel's is on is pretty cute. Service was good, no one left us out there, but we were suggested the monkey bread type item. It was nice and warm but we felt a little pressured because as soon as we sat down, we were asked if we wanted this specific item right off the bat. The coffee was terrible. Diner coffee can slap and this was sort of a slap in the face! The veggie omelete was alarmingly heavy on the veggies, including large pieces of broccoli in it with very little cheese. The hash browns slapped, but in the way one would want.

Made a reservation for outside this past Saturday because inside was a 90 minute wait, I'd definitely recommend reservations if you want to be inside. We got there a few minutes early and were still seated immediately. Outside seating is off the street, but it's quiet enough. Our waitress was friendly and personable, and service was prompt. My friend liked her waffle and eggs, and I did enjoy my egg sandwich. The blue cheese on it and the thyme gave it the right savory aspect, and the sourdough was crunchy and chewy and just wonderful. The hashbrowns could have stood to be cooked longer, but I do love my hashbrowns extra crispy. The mimosas were fantastic and so refreshing! We spent about $55 for two meals with two coffees and mimosas, so average pricing. We definitely enjoyed it!

I actually really enjoy the breakfast here as I've been multiple times. Very affordable menu pricing, and food quality and taste has been consistent on every business. Staff is pretty nice, but always busy, so service has always felt a bit slow to me. The biggest issue I have with this place now though is the cleanliness. I'm sorry, but this place is due for a major upgrade. The silverware, carpeting, vents, and dispensers are all in need of major attention.

Ever have food so good that you still crave it over a year later? That is Hazel's for me. Back story time. In 2015, I went with my cousin and their family to Canada. We all agreed to stop somewhere for food. Yelp led us to agree to come here. Yelp made a good choice that day. The food was fantastic. My cousin let me try his black coffee. That was fantastic. The server was fantastic. Everyone in the group loved their food. The interior is nice and had a bit of a cafe feel. Not too much seating, but not a handful. Tight fit, but still roomy. I have strongly debated on visiting Minneapolis again... just to have their food. I am a sucker for a good breakfast. Plus, there is a lot to do in Minneapolis... well, that's my excuse if I ever go back. Ha!

We stopped in for a friends birthday and had a great time! We luckily had a reservation as they were pretty busy and got seated shortly after arrival. There were so many great things on the menu that it was hard to pick. I ended up getting the meat waffle, a side of bacon, and a side of french toast. All of it was great! I do wish the meat waffle had more cheese but other than that it was exactly what I expected and I added syrup to it. Next time I want to try the pancakes as those looked tasty.

Made a same day reservation online on a whim. You definitely need one, but it's more of a spot in line than a reservation. Still a short wait on the weekend. We were seated right by the front door and host stand. There's not much of a waiting area, so if it's full, then everyone waiting to be seated is right next to you watching you eat. Service was fastttt, because once seated you are limited to about an hour. Other small, but popular restaurants in Minneapolis have similar policies. We order a few mimosas, coffee, the breakfast burrito, and the eggs florentine. Not gonna lie, I mostly came because I wanted a spot with mimosas, but the food was well crafted and delicious! This has been a popular spot in Minnesota for quite some time so it shouldn't come as a surprise. With warm wood and a cozy inviting interior, we enjoyed our meal quickly then went about our day. Street parking. You'll have to walk about a block.

Great breakfast stop in the NE. Stopped by here Sunday morning to catch up with a friend. She made reservations and I arrived early and checked in. The staff honored it to the minute, despite being busy and informed us of an hour limit. Silverware and napkins are at the table, and our gal was Johnny on the spot with coffee refills and follow-ups. The place is super quaint with some fun artwork in the walls. Food: Beignets: These were fried well having a beautifully crispy exterior. Inside was very light and fluffy. Unfortunately they were too eggy for my preference. An order comes with 6 and is perfect to share. Chicken fried steak and eggs: Steak was tender and had a perfectly fried exterior. The gravy had sausage and a good consistency. Eggs cooked well and hash browns crispy. I was on the verge of rating a 4, but the entree and service won me over to round up to a 5. Would definitely come again. Make sure to set up a reservation!

Hazel's food is consistently, predictably good. Great service, sometimes a long wait for weekend brunch, and the first & only place I've ordered a meat waffle. Be sure to get the hashbrowns and share a caramel roll.

I came on a Saturday and it's a cute busy location spot. With a reservation I still waited about 5-10 minutes to be seated. I ordered the peach mimosa, veggie omelette, and a side of crispy bacon. The food arrived quick which was a plus. They have inside and outside seating areas available but the space is limited. I parked in street parking but there is also a small parking lot nearby for businesses. Although the restaurant was busy the service was still attentive. I would recommend!

Wow what an amazing little spot. We had to wait about 30 minutes at about 11:30am on a Thursday but I cannot complain. I'd never been here before so I didn't know what to expect but even though they have a lot of basic food options they also have a lot of really cool ones. I ordered the fried egg sandwich and it was so good!! I had blue cheese on it which I'm not the biggest fan of but it still tasted really good. The hash browns are AMAZING, an absolute must get. Our server was relatively attentive, even though it took maybe 5-10 minutes to get our drinks ordered but it was busy so that was understandable. Will absolutely go back.

I met friends for a birthday brunch and Hazel's didn't disappoint. It is a cute spot with a decent amount of parking. They have a decent amount of seating but I would recommend getting a desert cause it is busy. Our server was very friendly and the food was brought out really quick like within 5 minutes of ordering. I got the meat omelette of the day which was chorizo potato and it was really good. The hash browns were also really good; crispy and cheesy. Highly recommend checking out this brunch spot.

I loved the maple sauce with the goat cheese on the sprouts! It's definitely different than the soy type sauces other places are doing, and brought the perfect salty sweet combination. The shrimp bowl is my go to here, and was great. The sauce with the shrimp, avocado, veggies and rice is a great balance of flavor. When I go to new cities, I typically seek out food that is specific to the region and thus a little more interesting to me. You can get a burger anywhere, and a cheese filled patty, aka a "Juicy Lucy", didn't sound like something I needed to try. But my husband kept talking about it and really seemed bent on having one so we decided to come here to try it out. We showed up during their happy hour, from 4-5pm, and they had $5 draft beers. Score! It's a cute place with ample seating, nice natural light from the large windows, and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the Juicy Lucy, a burger patty stuffed with cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and pub sauce. I chose the Impossible patty version, but you can also get it with their house made black bean burger. Hubby chose the Garlic Girl, a black bean cheeseburger topped with bacon (also made in-house), berbere aioli, lettuce, and pickled onion. Each burger came with fries. Both burgers were spectacular and delicious in their own way. The bacon on hubby's burger was incredible, and his burger was rich and satisfying. By my Juicy Lucy, oh my... Every bite was a flavor explosion and intensely delicious without being a gut bomb shockingly. To top it off, the fries were super crispy and just perfect. WOW is all I can say. Note that while the prices may seem a little higher than what you might expect, Francis Burger is a no tipping establishment, as stated on their menu. For the quality of the food and the great service, it was well worth the price! I'll be back if I'm ever in this area again.f

We came for an anniversary dinner and chose to be seated at the bar that overlooked the kitchen. I know I've said before, but I love this look into the kitchen, watching everything being cooked, seeing all the orders, it's just so fun. We started with cocktails and the Silesian dumplings. Both were excellent. Hubs got the duck two ways and I got the duck burger for our meals. I told him we couldn't go to a place that specializes in duck and not get duck. Both dishes were perfect. The duck confit sauce was delicious and the burger was out of this world. We couldn't turn down a couple of paczeks for dessert too. Service was great and sitting next to the kitchen, got to talk to some of the cooks as well. Overall, great experience at Black Duck.

The exterior is a little unassuming with the patio kind of looks like a family style restaurant but inside it's upscale dark and gold modern chic. THE FOOD Pierogis - 5/5 so pillowy Doused in a butter sauce, delicious potato goodness. A little steep for $19 for 4 pieces, but definitely a highlight of the night. Silesian pierogis - 5/5 the Parmesan leek sauce was a great compliment to the almost mochi, textured potato dumplings. Definitely different than the normal pierogies, but in my opinion, the sauce really stood out for this dish and was well balanced with the pickled cabbage. Pork dish 4/5 - the pork was cooked PERFECTLY, nice char on the outside with a juicy inside, not dry by any means. The sauerkraut plus the mustard sauce was a perfect bite. However, I do feel the mustard sauce is quite overpowering at times so if you don't like mustard do not get this. It does look like a large portion, but I did eat all of it with a little bit of help. I do wish there was some sort of starch on the plate, but better portioning the most pork chops restaurants that I have had. Flat iron steak 3/5 - I was most looking forward to this one after seeing it on Instagram however, the dish somewhat fell short for $40. The steak was cooked beautifully, and the potato pavee was exciting since this is quite rare where to find in the Twin Cities restaurant scene. There was not much sauce on this dish. The small bit of sauce provided, being quite buttery and did not add much to the flavor. The potato pavees were very crispy and a nice inside texture but for me a little bit oversalted, but there was just nowhere to go in the dish for sauce/punchy flavor. I wish there was an aioli/chimichurri to go with the potato pavee and some other type of seasoning like a Mexican seasoning on the potatoes. It's seems the entrees were not very vegetable forward however I feel like for $40 the pork and the steak could have used maybe a few pieces of brussels sprouts or asparagus to balance out their richness. Overall, a very lovely experience. I feel like anything on their menu is worth a try. The waitress mentioned that they do have rotating seasonal items. You won't be disappointed!
