I shared this sandwich with 3 people.

We were in the neighborhood and decided to stop by for a bun mi sandwich. They have 2 different size bread, regular and large. I went with the large and it was huge once she put everything together. We ordered the cold cut and added grilled pork. One side of the bread has pate and the other side is the special mayo. The layout is just like subway, the person behind the counter will ask you if you want all the toppings or if you're picky just tell her. We also ordered the thai tea to drink with. Easy location, street parking with meters in the front otherwise they have a few spaces in the parking behind the store.

Delicious banh mi sandwiches, large is decently filling but still need some sides imo. Everything was great, the meats were flavorful (meatball was my favorite but grilled pork was also very good), the pate was delicious. Wish there were more pickled veggies/jalapenos, and the bread was a bit soft, but still a very very enjoyable banh mi. Also tried the garden rolls (good, but very little pork and shrimp), the peanut sauce was pretty good, and the banh cam was nice too.

Simply amazing!!! You're not going to find a better Vietnamese sandwich around. Lu's makes a top notch banh mi. When I come to Lu's I usually go with their pork sandwich, however any meat option is amazing. Also, don't forget to try their amazing egg rolls.

Lu's Sandwich is an unassuming fast casual restaurant, located at the heart of the Northeast neighborhood in Minneapolis that is definitely worth a visit. The actual restaurant is very straightforward with no frills. You order at the front on an iPad, and then sit down and wait for your food. Takeout is also extremely popular here so be prepared for a bit of a line, although they move really fast here. Food: You have to get a banh mi when you come here. For those unfamiliar, a banh mi is an extremely popular Vietnamese sandwich consisting of meat, Mayo, pate, some pickled vegetables, cilantro, and a few other things tossed onto a baguette. Lu's just nails this perfectly and for a very reasonable price. The baguette is incredibly fresh and fluffy on the inside while still being crusty on the outside. The sandwiches are HUGE and packed with so much flavor. I absolutely love these and around $7-9, it's hard to beat this in Minneapolis. Drinks: I am a huge fan of Thai tea so I have to get it every time I see it on the menu. Overall it was pretty good Thai tea, but is definitely outshined by the delicious banh mi. It is definitely on the above average side of Thai tea in the Twin Cities area, but definitely not a must get. Overall, I absolutely recommend Lu's and definitely you have to get a banh mi when you come.

Receipt showed I did not ask for no pate

I've been a customer for a long time and til this day they always miss something with my togo order. My most recent order, missing some veggies (not pictured) and no pate in all 3 of my cold cuts.

Cold cut banh mi and grilled chicken banh mi

Some of the best banh mi sandwiches we've tried. Bread was crispy, veggies were fresh, and the grilled chicken was marinated and delicious. Would definitely come back and get again. And a decent price for the amount of food!

Great banh mi sandwiches. Stopped in here as the place across the street didn't have inside seating and I hadn't had a banh mi in a long time. Ordered the pork banh mi and a mango smoothie with the jellies. Sandwich had a great roll, crunchy vegetables and great flavor. I though they were a little heavy handed on the carrots, but I know from the ordering system I can get less on my next visit. The meat was nice and tender and had a very good flavor. The sandwich was more than I personally could handle so I used a fork to eat all of the fixings and 1/2 of the roll. The mango smoothie was very good, a very nice flavor and lasted me all the way home on the bus to north Minneapolis. Had the receipt emailed to me so I could look at the detail at home. They automatically add on a 9.00% Employee Retention Service Fee. The ordering system is a touch pad as you enter the store so you can customize the sandwich and your order as you see fit. If it's your visit take your time when placing your order. They have several locations in the Twin Cities and if I happen on one of them again I will definitely visit them.

Food is always good and service is great. It has been a long time since I've been here and I'm glad to see they still have a lot of options available, even weekend specials. I had to taste the banh cuon since that is a weekend specials and not easily found in restaurants. It did not disappoint. The nuoc mam was perfect. Filling was good but I wish there were more fresh herbs for garnish. Bun Bo hue was filled with meat and protein!! I can't believe how much was in there. I normally don't like a ton of meat but this was so tender I ate it all. Pho was good. Broth had a strong star anise flavor but I like that. The mi hoanh ton soup was good but not the best. The wontons were huge! I appreciate the amount of protein in it. Cream cheese wontons flavor was good, wish there was more than 4 pieces per order though. Nem nuong serving size was pretty small. Wish we would've ordered the nem nuong spring rolls instead. Bubble tea tasted like strawberry milk, very sweet. Not my favorite but my daughter gave it 10/10. Salmon rice was good, we were able to add eggs for $4. The chili oil is very hot so be careful how much you add. 4% discount if you pay in cash. Gratuity added for parties of 5 or more. Easy to grab to go at the front if you are in a rush. We grabbed more to go after we ate too. The tri color dessert was ok, not my favorite but I liked the sweetness of the coconut milk in there. We grabbed a banh mi that was ready to go and that was good! Bread was crispy, but maybe too much bread ratio to filling. Banh bao was massive too, expensive for $8.

Buon Bo Hue was spicy, had a good amount of meat. Pho broth was flavorful and passed for good pho. I hated the bowl, it is so narrow and you can barely fit any additional toppings. Nem Nuong was underwhelming, a lot smaller than expected. Banh Cuon is a weekend special. They were pretty thick and didn't absorb much of the sauce but had a good balance of filling and toppings. Well thinking I would go to Pho Hua instead, I pulled intonthe Shuang Hur Grocer's parking lot thinking I'd grab a few things before heading north on Eat Street. Then I saw signs on the Shuang Hur building for a (new to me) Vietnamese joint in the same building. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! My Huong is an 8-top hole in the wall across the parking lot from the rear of El Nuevo Mariachi Restaurant. The place is homely, small, but brightly lit and plenty of day light through the picture windows overlooking Eat Street. It's a big contrast to Pho 79 type places that are dim and short on ambience. The clientele shows. Instead of just a bunch of Asians throwing down Pho, it's a mix like you'd see at Quang or Eat Street Crossing. I was seated right away, was greeted by a cheery Vietnamese lady, and ordered Hu Tieu Bo Khu (Beef Stew Noodle Soup.) It was a dish I haven't seen before even though I have been to so many Vietnamese places (see my other reviews and lists.) The dish came very quickly, and I was shocked that they didn't bring it with a veggie plate. Oh well. Well the best way I could describe Hu Tieu Bo Khu, its basically a pot roast over noodles. So the beefy broth like a less spicey version of Bun Bo Hue, with flavors of lemongrass and star anise, nicely garnished already with what would have been on a veggie plate. The broth was delicious, slightly sweet with the carrots, and the beef was fall apart amazingly stewed with deep flavor. There were other menu items like Curry Chicken pho and a Stewed chicken rice dish I'd have to return and try!

The Egg Roll has been consistently good, crispy, and flavorful. No complaints there. This time I decide to try the cream cheese wontons. Very crispy, tasty, but a little low on filling. One major downside is they didn't serve it we that sweet sauce. They gave ample duck sauce packets, but I just ended up using the sweet and sour sauce that I have from Trader Joes. The wings were a disappointment. They're cooked hard, actually too hard. The skin was tight, the meat a bit dry, and the flavor bland. Cozy Hmong-American restaurant with French-influenced pastries? Count me in! I literally updated my destination to this restaurant while in the uber and decided to grab a bit of food before heading to my hotel. I had no reservation, but arriving a little after 1 pm on a Monday had no wait for a bar seat. It's such a cozy, homey restaurant with light wood, light brick, natural light, few plants inside and a very casual patio with picnic tables outside. I could see this place being a tough reservation during peak times. I hadn't eaten all day and was extremely hungry. I opted for the king crab omelette with red curry beurre blanc. I got a side of sticky rice to make it slightly heartier since I was so hungry and got some pastries to go, since I was in a bit of a time crunch to make it to my hotel and take some work calls. Service was incredibly friendly and fast. My server really did Minneapolis proud, chatted with me about my trip, gave me other great goodie recommendations to fill out my dining for the week, and overall really made the visit special. The crab omelette was unreal. Simultaneously fresh, light, but with a hint of kick and richness from the red curry beurre blanc. Excellent flavor combo. I got the crab Rangoon danish and the coconut pandas croissant to go and ate them for breakfast the next day and they were still so light and fresh with unreal flavor combos. The pandan was my favorite and I tend to be a savory over sweet pastry girl. This place is deserving of all of its hype and more. I honestly really wanted to go back and asked if I could try to sneak in a reservation to come again for later in the week, but sadly they are when I was free the rest of the time I was in town.
