It needed and extra 15 or so, but all ovens and taste to temp vary, so keep an eye on it. Baking results: - dove into the middle of course to get a feel for the taste and temp. At 35 minutes it needed more time. Shoved it back in for another 10. - next taste I dug into the crust. Wonderful! Light, flakey and flavorful. From the online photos I thought it would be the dense, hard, break off and toss out type of crust. NOT! I still thought the temp could be higher so I threw it back in for another 5. I like my food piping hot. - try 3... nailed it! Overview: - Crust: light and flakey - Veggie Stuffing: Carrots, green beans, mushrooms, celery. (Most likely varies.) - Binding: Tasted like and had the texture of Thanksgiving stuffing. Much more dense than your typical pot pie. Inside was not loose and creamy, but a thicker consistency much like bird stuffing. - Flavor: On point. Needed no additional enhancements of any kind. - Size: about 6" in diameter - Serving: I think two women can split this with a small side salad. - Price for value: A bit rich for my husband @ $9.25/ea., but since this is our first try, I will get back with you. - End result: Don't let your eyes deceive you. I tried and tried and couldn't finish it. Definitely a two person feast. Can't wait until tomorrow to try the chicken! Would I get this again? In a heart beat. Was craving something sweet after spending most of the morning sightseeing. I had seen many great reviews for this place. We were not disappointed. Key West Cakes first opened in 2001 and has been awarded the "Best in Weddings" by the Knot in 2010 & 2012. I had to try their Key Lime Pie which was delicious and not too sweet. After my wife explained to the owner Paul that she could handle anything too sweet he recommended the strawberry and cream cupcake. It was chocolate/strawberry cake filled with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Just perfect according to my wife. Noticed on the menu that they actually have a small savory takeout menu for dinner. One of the items that caught my eye was the chicken pot pie. It is so popular that they make about 40 pies on Tuesday and they are sold out in 2 hours. I find that impressive. It is off the beaten path of the madness that is Duval Street but definitely worth a look if you are in the area. In the past, all of the cakes my family has bought from here were on point. Today I went in to order a cake for my birthday, and I wanted it to be different than a normal cake. When I showed the woman up front, she asked a baker from the back because I wanted it for the next day. He tells us he can't on short notice. So I compromised and told them we could get it next week. When we told them this, the baker then tells us he doesn't know how to make succulents. We continue to try and compromise, but every time he insists he can't do it. Unfortunately the flavor of everything reminded me of something I could buy for half the price from a local grocery store. "Let them eat cake." And cake they ate! I don't live in Key West. I live in Dallas, but I wanted to get a special someone that lives in KW a birthday cake. Key West Cakes was recommended to me by a (local) friend of both mine and the birthday boy. I looked at their website before calling to place the order. I believe I spoke with Steven. He was very helpful with me as I tried to make up my mind on flavors. He made suggestions on the aesthetics of the cake, and being clueless, I followed his lead. I'm glad I did! Steven didn't even poke fun of me when I told him the lovey-dovey, mushy message I wanted him to write on top in icing. In his words, "oh, I've heard worse" after I warned him not to make fun. :) I may not have been able to taste the cake, but after seeing pictures, it looked great! It was a sunset beach theme with beautiful colors with palm trees along the side. It didn't look elementary in the least. Both of my friends said it was tasty too! I ordered chocolate cake with peanut butter filling. They offered to deliver to the restaurant where the birthday dinner was being held for a nominal $10 fee, but my friend ended up picking it up for me earlier that day and taking it to the restaurant for later that night. The ordering process was smooth, and they didn't even ask for my credit card information until the day of delivery. Next time I'm in Key West, I really should pop in and try one of their treats. I've been a customer at Key West cakes for the last few years and have always had a great experience. I'm typically in the store once a week and even used them for my wedding cake and wedding favors, which was not cheap. Today I went into the store to get cookies for my students. They didn't have any premade cookies that would be suitable for young children. So I asked if I could place an order for a tray of cookies the next day. The man spoke to me as if I were an idiot to even ask if they could be made for the next day. I'm not a baker, so I'm not sure why he assumed I know how much time it takes to make twenty cookies or why he assumed I that I was aware of their work load. So I asked about the following day. He then, very rudely asked what shape I wanted. I suggested maybe a flower with some icing. Just something a child would like. He came back with a cookie cutter and told me that it would be 1.50 per cookie. That price was too much for me to pay so he turned around and said "so never mind!" while storming off. I was shocked by the treatment I received. I will never spend any of my hard earned money there again. It's unfortunate because they did a lovely job on our wedding cake. read more

It's a small place, with a lot of large, lovely looking cupcakes...so of course I had to buy a few (salted caramel, orange-something, and a coconut one). They were ALL delicious...and big...I cut them into quarters and shared them with friends. It was Tuesday, and I noticed some very good looking pies behind the counter. I cannot stress enough just how wonderful Key West Cakes is! I asked them to make me a very special cake for my 50th birthday and boy did they come through! I chose almond cake and buttercream icing with Bavarian cream filling and it was positively delicious. My family raved about how good it was. The design was perfect too! They used a green Mile Marker 50 sign which was super cute! When we picked up the cake, I stayed in the car, but my son and daughter-in-law went in to get it.
