As of yesterday, my group has participated in all 9 of key and codes' puzzle rooms, of which we escaped 7. But make no mistake, these rooms certainly arent easy, however, they aren't overly difficult either, solving each puzzle and entering each combination feels satisfying, although I'd say the "aquanaut" room could've been slightly more intuitive in a couple areas. The theming of each room is expertly done, whether it's grandpa's room, a lakeside cabin, a submarine, or an old saloon in the wild west, we were always able to easily immerse ourselves within the setting. However, with that said, we were all a bit underwhelmed by the second half of the "chain reaction" room, while the first half of it was great, the latter felt a bit bland theme wise, and was incredibly cluttered. The puzzles will often times match the theme of the room, which adds to the immersion factor and makes each room stand out from one another, the rooms are incredibly interactive, often times having several different types of puzzles which allows for different members of the group to shine. The employees here are super nice as well, every time we've come they've been very jovial, and whenever we got stuck and needed help, they never spoke down to us, and would typically give us a hint that didnt break our immersion, or outright tell us the solution. They give the place a really nice atmosphere. This is easily one of the best puzzle places in Reno, we came here every weekend for a month and a half straight (on some days wed do 2 rooms in a row) it became our weekly ritual, and it's honestly a bit sad that we can't come back any time soon. But we were given a set of t shirts upon participating in our final room, so we can cherish the memories. read more

Had a lot of fun with it! Was able to book an appointment the next day with lots of times available (Tahoe), and had a blast! My group struggled a bit with the puzzles and we were so thankful that our person gave us clues and helped us out. Alas, we did not succeed, but she was really nice as there wasn't a group coming in after us, so we were allowed to keep on working on the puzzles until we succeeded. For those of faint of heart, no fear as Tahoe wasn't scary. Plot wise it was great, as you learned more about the story with each puzzle you finished, and a great twist at the end. That twist was kinda scary, but nothing nightmare inducing. Since our group had a great time with it, we'll probably go back and try another puzzle! Goal is to finish it on time! My friends are braver and will probably do one of the scarier ones without me, lol. read more

We have been here several times and done Chain Reaction, Mission Aquanaut, Tahoe '64, Family secrets (which I don't think they have anymore) and Comic Shock. We have had overall positive experiences every time! The rooms are all very well themed and do a good job of getting you into the game. The puzzles are challenging but not impossible and do a good job of relating to the location/theme/time period of the room. The staff are always friendly and helpful and we haven't had any issues communicating with them while in a room. We did have one instance where an integral part of a room didn't work and that made it so we couldn't escape, I do wish we had been given a discount on our next visit for that one. I come to play and win, having the game malfunction and prevent that was extremely disappointing. We also had one instance where a lock was not reset in the room and it definitely made it a little too easy. All in all, we will happily return here and enjoy their rooms, I just saw they have a new room we will have to try out! read more

I've been to two escape rooms at Key And Code and each experience has been wonderful! Their employees are kind and helpful. Their rooms are decorated quite well and the puzzles are challenging and creative. The one compliant I'd have if any was that some of their creatures like the dragon you're supposed to find in Merlin's escape room was less interactive than I first thought in design and function. We did Mr 80s with 4 adults and 3 children. We ran into some challenges with the size of the room(small) and the noise level. The TV plays continually and the instructions and clues are given through a baby monitor. The Tv was loud in comparison with the poor sound quality over the baby monitor and the other instructions given during the game. We had a difficult time understanding the clues. The staff was very nice and tried to be helpful. This room was surprisingly difficult and not a good room for kids as you need to have significant 80s knowledge. I think that there should be some kind of information as to age appropriateness and there should be a child price. read more

Our third visit to the Key and Code. My daughter and I did the Family Secrets Room. It's a kart more challenging when you only have 2 players. 2 brains not as good as 4-8 brains so it's much harder to escape. This was our second attempt and we escaped with just 24 seconds left. I've been to all 3 key and code locations and this final time we all went we decided to go to the new location in the parking lot of Costco. We have almost run of rooms to do so we decided why not try the new one. When we first walked in there was nobody in the front, it took a few minutes for anyone to show up. This review isn't because we did badly but because several times we asked for clues and NOTHING. No response, even after we pressed the button multiple times. This happened on several occasions, one time we waited over 5 minutes for a rude young man to come onto the speaker and pretty much yell at us because we were unable to hear him ( they little speaker was hidden behind something which made it nearly impossible to hear. It was evident who ever was working was busy doing who knows what because we decided to leave the game early and they didn't notice until we were almost out the door. Will be passing on this location in the future, I suppose it's to find a new escape room. read more

FUN and FRUSTRATING! LOL! We came for date night. We'd never done an escape room before. Our host was EXCELLENT. She was cool, didn't make us feel dumb for needing clues and was super helpful. There is a steep learning curve your first time. But that's ok. I'd come back, but probably with another couple so we'd have more brainpower and points of view to help solve the puzzles faster. If you make a reservation 24 hours in advance, you don't qualify for their refund of the reservation so if you're running late to the event you're left with voicemails and actual hang ups of the phone. They literally hung up the phone several times while we were attempting to notify them of our delay. It says something about the business that they are afraid to pick up the phone to talk to their paying customers. read more

I have nothing bad to say about this place! Me and my dad tried an escape room together for the first time, and it was great. We chose the Tahoe 64 room, which apparently isn't a very easy choice for beginners lol. Unfortunately we didn't make it out on time, but staff member Isaiah gave us plenty of hints throughout the game without making us feel stupid for not getting it. I am an escape room junkie and have seen a lot of rooms in the last few years. This was my 4th time at key and code, but my first time at the summit location. The staff was awesome when it came to rescheduling us due to our mix up in location and were always helpful. I will say that I loved all the rooms I have done at Legends, but Elixer (very hard room) was not my favorite. A lot of locks and less technology than I have been seeing in a lot of the rooms, but all rooms are different and that's what makes it interesting. For a beginner, I would suggest looking at the difficulty rating before booking so that you have a chance at escaping! As far as COVID goes, they are doing a great job of sanitizing and keeping people safe! I would highly suggest an escape room to anyone looking for an hour of fun! read more

Key and Code was pretty cool but I gave it four stars due to its simplicity and the price. First, it was pretty expensive in my opinion. I think they should have a deal on the first three or something. We did Dr. Ensaine and while it was hard, padlocks were mostly used to get to the next step. I wish they included other things than those. I've seen other rooms where you "knock" a few times or "blow a candle" in a specific order. But hey, maybe I'm wrong because I haven't done the other rooms yet. The room was pretty nice though. They really mastered the ambiance. I really felt like I was in a dental office. That's another thing! They have everything but there wasn't really a "plot" or a "story" to the challenge. It was just a simple, "beat the room in an hour, you guys." Other than that, everyone was nice and they had plenty of other stuff to do while they're preparing the room. Definitely recommend! Have fun! read more

As someone who has done over 130 escape rooms I will gladly recommend Key and Code for a good dose of quality Reno escape room fun. Great sets, large collection of themes, attentive staff and fun puzzle interactions all at affordable prices, this is a great stop if you want to get a good puzzle fix Here were the games that we've played so far Comic Shock - A great small game with a fun theme that carries out through the entire end. This room is utterly camp and has great puzzle interactions and use of props. Don't go more than three players for this game given the small blueprint. Mission Aquanaut - Aquanaut is the opposite of Comic Shock featuring a rather expansive room and a serious storyline. Lots of prop interaction and a very clever final puzzle make this worth a play Virginia City Haunt - A great spooky theme roomed that really takes you places. While other games just make the small room larger here you move on to different locations. A very thematic wild west room with a nice ending. read more

We recently did our second room here. Very nice place with fun rooms. The themes that we did were inventive and fun. The cost is good at only $24 per person. I am excited to try some of the new rooms that they have. We did an older one Tahoe 64 and got out with about 20 min remaining. I would like to see a little more technology used as opposed to just standard locks. Also the room seemed a little linear, so if we had more that 4 people there would probably be some standing around for some of the people. Still really fun and a bit of a challenge! read more

We didn't escape but the whole experience was fun and a great team event. The staff is great, really helpful and overall nice group. They were able to work with our group with payments prior to our escape date since we couldn't do a full payment online to reserve the room. Definitely something to do again in the future read more

The best escape rooms in Reno and Sparks! This place was AWESOME! To start, we have been to all of the other puzzle rooms in the Reno area. Although most of them are good, none compare to Key and Code. Here is a list of what sets Key and Code apart from the rest and why I think they are the best puzzle rooms in Reno: 1. Clean and attractive rooms and areas. 2. Extremely friendly staff. 3. More interactive puzzles (they involve digging through real objects, climbing up and through areas, using physical objects to complete rooms) 4. There are not any broken or non working items. For example in all the other puzzle rooms there is always something broken or a lock that doesn't lock or something wrong. Not here, all the rooms were flawless! 5. You don't have to use a walk talky. They constantly monitor you and if you need a clue you just ask for it. Also because hey are monitoring you, they know right where you are at in the puzzle. So at other place you might ask for a clue and then they accidentally give a different clue away because they don't know where you are at. This doesn't happen at key and code :) Love this place!!! My husband and I have been wanting to do an escape room for some time, but whenever we get time away from the kids we want to spend quality time together, not with other people. This was the only escape room that we have found that let us do it with only the 2 of us and not a larger group. We were a little hesitant at first, thinking it would be more fun with a group, but we are so glad we went! It was so much fun! Our first time ever at an escape room!!! 25$ a person one hour to escape. Communication and team work is the key to escaping. Their was a couple hiccups with the room as somethings were malfunctioning. The attendants were apologetic, kept track of time and gave you hints if needed. I'd been dying to try an escape room for a long time and looked up as much as I could on different ones in Reno before we went to Key and Code. Some of the reasons I chose Key and Code were that they could accommodate our entire family (7 of us with kids between 3 and 14 years old) and they had rooms that weren't too scary or difficult for a family with young kids. The experience was a ton of fun for me and most of the kids! It was our first time, so the learning curve was a bit tough at the beginning (even getting into the room), but we got through quite a few of the puzzles before our time was up. The staff there was great with us - very patient and encouraging as we struggled a lot, but that was part of the fun for me. My wife didn't enjoy it as much since I wanted to figure things out ourselves and she wanted more clues than I did. We did the Mission Aquanaut room and it was quite challenging for us as first-timers with young kids. The room and props and puzzles were all well-done! I think we could do better on future rooms as we get the hang of escape rooms! Next time, I'm hoping to go with other couples as a group date so we can do a little better with some other adults! read more

We booked a same day time slot here by luck since everywhere else had times that were too late for my group. But I'm so glad it turned out that way because we had an amazing time here. My group of 6 did the Dr. Ensaine room, which is said to be the most popular one. The staff was very friendly and the worker who provided us with the hints said it in a way to help us towards the answer and not completely give it away. The rooms were decorated very realistically. For instance Dr. Ensaine is a dentist's office and looked like an actual one with actual tools that would used during a visit. The problem solving and tasks were so fun to accomplish as a group, we are now eager to try more escape rooms. Unfortunately we were only in the area since we were traveling and from the Bay Area. Our family willingly got locked into the '64 Tahoe Room over the weekend and had a blast getting out! There were multiple puzzles, clues & locks to complete/open before completing our mission. Thankfully our teenagers were there for parts and some adult common sense too or we might have been locked in all weekend. ;) The gentle nudges from the staff along the way was great as they never let us get too frustrated with our lack of ideas to solve the clues & puzzles. My friends and I did Dr. Ensaine and although we escaped we felt the puzzles were almost too simple that we over thought them! Most of the puzzles were the type to just take up time, such as counting, doing simple math, or finding a key then finding out the lock it was suppose to open was already unlocked. We did Tahoe 64 the same day and enjoyed that room so much better! The puzzles required you to think out of the box, and they were satisfying to decode! This was the first time some of us had ever done an escape room and we can't wait to go back. This is by far the BEST place in Reno if you need an "ESCAPE" we've done about 5 rooms and have had amazing experiences every time except one. After the bad experience (it wasn't the quality of the room) we had a helper that wasn't good at giving clues, didn't seem to want to be there and the room was set wrong. I booked that room for my husbands birthday and after the experience we called immediately and spoke with Wes. Wes was amazingly kind, comped our room and gave us another one for free. He kept in touch with me as he stated he would and instead of that one bad experience making us never want to go back, the way it was handled we will continue to promote and visit key and code for life. I went as part of a group, and we found that the escape room was in two areas impossible to complete due to problems with the room. First of all, there was a fish tank with a key in it. There was a hole in the middle of the fish tank lid, and the key was in the far corner, making it impossible to get. The employee had to bring us a spare. Additionally you can get locked into rooms without a way back to instructions you need for the room. We ended up locked in the 3rd room of our escape room and the instructions were in the 2nd room. And finally, when we escaped, the 'escape video' did not play. Bummer. 2 stars because the theming was fun. read more

This location of Key and Code is awesome. Probably the best set of escape rooms in the area. Although, the new rooms at Breakthrough GSR are some good competition for them. Key and Codes new location in the Summit seem disappointing compared to their rooms at the Legends. I did the Merlin room at their Summit location, which left me disappointing, the decorations did not fit the theme, cheap decorations, an unreasonable puzzle, and no storyline introduced by the staff to to explain the task of the room. Hopefully these issues will be solved considering it is a new location. read more
