The Legends location is incredibly hard to find. It's on the backside of the main shopping mall building and you enter through an area that reminds me of a loading dock. We did not get the usual back story or any instruction on how to get started. The only thing we were told is the type of combo locks in the room. The guy closed the door and we started. We walked in and couldn't figure out what to do. Turns out the room hadn't been reset from the last group. The young man that worked there came back and said oops, go back to the hallway and let me fix the room. Additionally, at least 2 puzzles did not work properly despite solving them. Took multiple tries of the same answer to work. The room theme was pretty cool. Not sure if I would go back to this location. read more

Gone a few times now and enjoyed myself but my last visit, yesterday, wasn't as good. A few of their props weren't working and the person at the front desk would have to enter the room to help. For instance, when a key dropped from a tube, it got stuck and luckily we had someone over 6' tall that was tall enough to reach up the tube to grab the key that got stuck. Then there was an electrical disconnect so one of the props that was needed to pass wasn't functioning correctly. Overall, still fun and great games and great staff but the owner definitely needs to spend some off hours fixing the props. read more

We did an escape room at Legends in Sparks and experienced a small technical issue. Andy, the assistant manager, realized what had happened and immediately stepped in and fixed the room for us to proceed. He not only handled the hiccup with professionalism but he made our group laugh and barely notice the disruption. All games/rooms/sites with a lot of technology have malfunctions from time to time and how the business handles it shows the kind of business they are. Huge shout out to Andy for his professionalism. We had an amazing night and will be returning to attempt another room soon. read more

I did this escape room for my 9 year olds birthday with my 11 year old son and one other friend. I was very impressed with the decorations. and details of the room. The challenges of figuring out clues was for all ages. I had to ask for help being the only adult, but we had a wonderful time. The price was very fair and I can definitely see us going back for more escape room experiences. read more

Family went here during our trip to Reno. The GM was helpful and friendly, made sure we understood what was going on. We did the Challenge of the Gods - Olympus Team and enjoyed our time in the room and were able to beat it with some time to spare. We are planning on doing another challenge soon. We were looking for an indoor activity to do while it was extremely hot outside a few days ago. We decided on an escape room! It was a little confusing to find the correct location at Legends, there are two different locations depending on which room you've booked. I attached a photo to this review, it's a map I found at the location we visited which shows how to get to each place and which rooms they have there. We chose the Tahoe '64 room, it's about the mysteries and conspiracies behind the Great Tahoe Deception of 1964. Some aspects of the room included ties to the mob, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and maps of the lake itself. I don't do escape rooms very often but my sister-in-law does. She said this is one of the best escape rooms she has ever done! This one was $29/person, she said escape rooms in Colorado where she lives are usually closer to $50/person. We had an hour to escape and asked for hints several times. We asked how much time we had left and the guy said "only a couple of minutes, but you're close. I will let you all finish!" We got to stay for an extra 15 minutes, I'm sure this was because nobody had booked the room after us. But still, such a kind gesture that he did not have to do for us. Even though we did not escape in an hour, we were so happy to have escaped and made it out! The room had sooo many puzzles and unique out-of-the-box types of riddles to solve. The room actually opened up to two additional rooms as things progressed, it was much more in depth than we expected. We had a great time here and appreciated how helpful and kind the staff were. We did the Elixir with some friends that weren't too experienced with escape rooms and we all had such a good time solving this one. It was difficult but not impossible. Legends Mall Key and Code: Malfunctioning room where we successfully navigated the task several times but did not get credit. Also had a "not part of the game" sticker right on a screen that had the clue! Not as fun as it would have been if we had had a fair shot. We were excited to hear this franchise had new rooms, as we had done all of them at this point. We chose Mr. Eighties tonight. I was born in 1981 so the room decor was an immediate flashback to my childhood, even the lingo such as "tubular" and "radical." We got out fairly quickly but did have to ask for hints, one we shouldn't have needed and one was unnecessarily obscure. When it came to making the phone call I actually had the number right instantly however because the sound and background music didn't stop if I got the answer right, we couldn't hear the phone ringing. It wasn't until after 5 tries, asking for help, going through it all again, and talking out, that the tv and room music stopped and we realized the phone was ringing. Actually, after thinking harder on that, once the phone rang it gave a clue, since I had it correct to start, even if I couldn't hear the ringing, the clue should have still played but it never did. Also the rubix cube puzzle was entirely too much. We did Ask for a clue on it, but we couldn't hear over the music. While my friends were talking about what they saw, I couldn't hear over them & the music, or just the music combined. We had to ask for help a second time because nearly the whole clue we were given was lost in the music. I think the background music was cool, but overall it distracted from sounds and hearing clues. I feel like this was a small, fast room, with very little interaction and too much music. There is a sub game where you are given 80s clues to solve & win a prize, but again, I couldn't hear the clues half the time over the music and they only play one time. Meh. read more

Absolutely loved it. What a great time, and such an intuitive way to lay out the puzzles. You don't need any knowledge not available in the room, despite our best efforts to learn Morse code on the fly. Took the family to the one by Costco today. I loved the creativity and the ease of the puzzles for the littles. Very fun and happy. What we didn't enjoy is that some puzzles hadn't been reset. Over 1/2 the puzzles we had to input more than once to get it to trigger a response, which frustrated the group. We spent 5+ minutes trying to use a barcode that magically worked after we asked for help. The staff was friendly-ish but definitely not game masters. The rules were vague. We ended up hitting the let me out button so we could go find help bc no one would answer us. We finished with 20 minutes to spare but that was expected as it was aimed for kids. However, we've been to others that really pump you up, get into character and set the scene, converse with the kids, celebrate their win with them at the end and offer to take a picture for you. We kinda had to cue our own exit. Like okay, I guess we're done? And the waivers are flawed for the staff up front. You can add minors but it didn't show for her so I ended up having to do 5 separate waivers when the original said it worked. Not the end of the world but she was frustrated too. The rooms they have are good in concept but the execution of them was poorly done. I've been twice and did the Merlin one and the Demon Barber one at the South Reno location. The first time doing the Merlin quest was about 6 months ago. The room was good but they over use thematic lighting to the point where some of the clues were hard to see. But overall had a good experience and the staff was friendly. The second time was recent and we did the Demon Barber room. It was a completely different experience to the point of we are debating even coming back. There was one friendly employee, possibly the manager, who helped us sign our waivers. When it came time to start the employee at the desk told us one of us had to come back with him. He didn't say anything as we walked back told me to sit in the chair and just said I had to sit in the chair and then walked out. Nothing else. We started the game and to say it was really dark would be the understatement of the year. To the point where the 4 people in our group could barely read some of the clues and half of our time was spent just trying to read what was on the walls. The lighting is absolutely horrible and not conductive to a game when observing details is a big part of solving it. If they want to keep the thematic lighting thats great but they need to give flashlights or something to be able to see. There was also one of the clues where you had to place objects in certain spots and we had to spend 5-10 mins trying to get them in the exact spot needed. Really frustrated to have the solution to one of the puzzles and not being able to advance due to technical issues. From the other reviews it looks like the other locations of theirs in town are better but I would probably stay away from the South Reno location. read more

This review is actually for the south Reno location, but it does not appear they have a yelp page for that location. My wife and I just did a combo two rooms which were our 46th and 47th escape rooms we have done and they were two of the worst we've ever experienced. In the first room, the first puzzle was clunky, the second didn't work, the third was entering password to a computer which the keyboard did not work. After almost 15 minutes one of the employees came in and tried to get it to work and couldn't get it to. They said it would add on more time, but after that, we were just frustrated and asked to just start our second room. To be fair, the employees were friendly. The second room we were more excited about however, maybe the third or fourth puzzle was a chess board that didn't work the first several times we put the answer correct. We asked for a hint re-tried our original answer, and had to mess with all the pieces before we got it to work. In the second room of this puzzle there were multiple things that were color-coded, however it was dark and most of the colors were worn off the pieces so even though we knew what the answer to the puzzle was we were still unable to solve without doing a whole bunch of guesswork. In summary, we spent money for two rooms, and really only did half of each one with no refund. Again, the employees were nice and sympathetic, but still very frustrating that we paid full price for two rooms that did not work. read more

We did Apollo next to Costco. Have done about a dozen escape rooms and always have fun regardless of hiccups. We have always had clues that direct us to the correct codes after we solve them in our previous escape rooms. Staff was helpful, but puzzles has a large component of trial and error. One puzzle we gave up on and we asked for the solution and the host told us it was supposed to be trial and error. There would have been 2^9 possibilities to figure it out by trial and error. That's not appropriate if you only have an hour, the point of the clues is to allow us to solve and not just guess IMO. We won't be going back to this place because we like solving clues and using logic not guessing at puzzles or doing trial and error to get answers. read more

Fun for the whole family! Are you looking for fun that includes using your brain and wits to try to figure out puzzles? IF so this is the place for you. Recently my family and I came here to try to figure out the Chain Reaction room. This is the second Puzzle Room type of business I have been too. I personally think this one has bigger spaces with more rooms to enter. Perhaps it depends on what Puzzle you are trying to solve. What a fun way to spend an hour with your family experiencing laughter, humor and twisting your thoughts and brains in order to figure out a mental problem. Staff was kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Chain Reaction had us all on our toes seeking the answers and looking for clues. If your looking for something fun and some brain teasers as well then this is the place for you. Please note that Key and Code has two locations at Legends Mall. My family and I really enjoy escape rooms and we have done plenty! I was visiting family over the Thanksgiving holiday and with all of our family gathered together we thought we'd enjoy some healthy competition! (18 of us total) I tried to find an escape room that had dual/competition rooms and came across this place. This escape room was beyond disappointing! 1. Several props didn't work in both of the rooms. We had to call the staff twice to come fix items after solving the puzzle to open - the props were disfunctional. 2. Their clues were not helpful to the questions asked 3. The props/design were sub par and the layout of the puzzles didn't correlate very well. I tried calling the owner to explain our dissatisfaction and they found every reason to not refund us. She did offer us an opportunity to come back, but no thanks! This escape room Isn't worth the hour of time investment. This review would be different if they at least pretended to care. They made no effort to respond to my initial call - I had to call them again. They do not care about their customers! Definitely recommended spending your time and money elsewhere!!! We ended up doing another escape room in town with a smaller group since many of our family already went home. It was 1000x better! Excellent customer service and definitely way better laid out. read more

If you're looking for a great experience in an escape room, this is NOT the place to go. Sorry to say because they have a good location and it's the closest one to me, but I would not recommend them to anyone. Poor quality props that don't work (staff had to come in and help with broken items, and then did not compensate for time lost). They would not consider any type of refund either. Poor customer service. Inexperienced staff who don't seem vested in their job. It was honestly a waste of money. There are so many better ones in Reno for a comparable price. My family won't be going back to Key and Code unless they do a major overhaul. There are just too many other quality escape rooms in town. We stopped by for an escape room in South Reno this past weekend, family was in town and we thought it'd be a good time. The room was very well thought out and put together but the service was awful. We felt like there was little to no excitement or even happiness we were there and when our time ended, we were given a brush off. We didn't get to finish the room and we weren't told how it would have ended or even asked if we enjoyed ourselves. The desk attendant opened the room, told us we had to leave and that was it. We even stood there and asked if we needed to do anything else and all we got was a shrug. No goodbye or anything. Horrible service! read more

Time to update..... Key and Code has expanded!!! The original spot next door to the back side of Forever 21 at the Outlets at Legends is still available. There's four great scenarios with some of the best technology I have encountered in escape rooms. Now there's four new rooms in an additional spot at the Outlets across from the Galaxy Theaters. The new spot is easy to find, well marked. The entrance/check in is simple, and smaller than the original spot. I like the simplicity. Two tablets are available to check in on and sign waivers. And as in the other location, a set of lockers to store your purse and phones while playing. Our group tried the Virginia City Haunt room. So absolutely fabulous, especially if you've been to VC and have heard the legend of Miss Julia Bulette. I'm sorry that's all I can say without giving any secrets away. Almost a week later the group is still talking about our great escape and how incredible the room was. Besides Virgina City Haunt, there's Comic Shock and Mission Aquanaut. The Magician's Heist is rather unique- two identical rooms designed for those with a competitive streak. Magician's allows two teams to simultaneously race each other for escape bragging rights. Overall, the escape room itself was great. We did Sinister Island on a Saturday night with 10 of us and had a lot of fun. The only issue all of us had was the employees. Very disrespectful, and horrible from the second we got greeted when walking in. When asking for clues during the escape room, the shorter female employee that greeted us originally, I believe was the one giving us our clues. We had asked for another clue, and she kept repeating herself, regardless of us asking new questions. Then proceeded to say "What are you not understanding?" !! The fact that a group of 10 people spent $300+ on an escape room for the staff to be utterly rude and disrespectful from the second we walked in is ridiculous. I've done one escape room at the south Reno location. Overall it was enjoyable but not as great as several others I've been to. With most rooms I've been in, there's been a flow and it's pretty clear what your next steps should be. This one left us hanging quite often, unclear what to do next, having to ask for lots of clues. Though to be fair, we started with their most difficult room, so I'm not sure if that's part of it. There was also a part involving smell that we got hung up on for a while. Once we finally asked for a clue, a couple of them were pretty far off from anything we would have feasibly guessed. At first I thought it was neat that they involved scent based puzzles, but the scents seemed rather subjective in this case which made it more difficult than I felt it should have been. I also would have appreciated a clock countdown in the room to see how much time we had left. Overall it didn't feel quite as high quality as many of the others I've been to, but I hesitate to judge the entire place based on their most difficult room. We'll be going back to try to finish the room and to try another room. For now I wouldn't put this place on my list of favorite escape room places, but it's decent enough. read more

We wouldn't do it again. It was a little pricey, we didnt enjoy it, and left frustrated. Our 8 year old son started off really excited but that faded when he couldn't help in any capacity. Why they charge full price for youth is beyond me. The hints were good, we definitely used them, but didn't get half way before our time was up. It was hard to hear the host though. Since we we're family, we thought we didnt have to wear masks in a private room but they're required. The rooms were really-really creative and we found them exciting. At the end, we basically gave up and just admired the work they put into it. When I called we talked about payment and adding folks who we weren't sure would come. I understood we just paid the minimum and our guests could join for free. We had to pay $25.00 per additional person, which was reasonable but unexpected. read more
