I have done all the escape room they offer. I enjoyed all of them. The interactions from finding one clue to decoding and unlocking doors. It's really an awesome experience. And great for group activities. The challenging levels are just right, they don't have you doing trigonometry to figure things out. They have difficulty levels are a doable rate. It was fun and I love escape rooms. This was my third. However, the computer was broken and we had to leave the escape room for about 15 minutes so they could fix it. We also needed a lot of hints. I mentioned we had children with us but this was much too hard for all of us. Also at the very end we didn't finish and the guy who worked their sit "do you wanna see how it turns out? "And we said sure. While he was trying to show us the next 20 steps to get to the end he discovered that another part of it was also broken. I was surprised they didn't offer us a free ticket or something like that, or a discount. But it's still a fun thing to do. read more

I have been here multiple times. The rooms are decorated to fit each theme they are going for, and they have multiple rooms to choose from. I prefer their rooms that have more than one room to do the puzzles in. (The eighties room was only a single room.) They only thing I don't really care for is the clues don't always lead to something, so you are standing there wondering what to do next. With no clear direction after finding clues at times, I am very thankful for the people they have giving some. We definitely needed some hints to move along. They are always kind and help out when asked. Overall, this place does have good escape rooms and are decorated nicely! They can be a little confusing at times. We reserved a room online for Saturday at 4:45pm. It was painless except for the $24 per person cost. We had no idea what it should cost and considered that a fair price for the challenge and experience. We arrived 15 minutes early as requested, signed the release and put our stuff in a free locker with padlock. We signed up for the Dr. Ensaine room and the attendant gave us a few details and we were shut in the room. It was a great experience and we had a lot of fun and escaped with only 56 seconds left! We want to come back and put our problem solving skills to the test! As we dicussed afterwards we didn't really see the connections between some things and did not feel a logical person would make some of the connections. My family has done several escape rooms, we usually really love them (even if we can't always escape). My son wanted to try Demon Barber for his birthday & it said it was 3/5 difficulty so we signed up. The hints came through a baby monitor that was in the first room. The person giving the hints spoke so quietly that we couldn't really hear what he was saying so the hints weren't helping us. It didn't help that the horse galloping & scissor cutting sounds were louder than any hint we received. The interesting thing was when we touched anything that wasn't meant for discovery the reprimand came through loud and clear. Needless to say we didn't even make it half way & this was at least a 4/5 difficulty. Wouldn't recommend this room unless you're an expert and don't need any clues. read more

Mr. 80's more like Mr. Lamesies! Room was broken and had to be reset. We had to go through the stories again ruining any illusion of being stuck in the room. Next there were other key pieces broken and we had to be given a key to figure things out because it wasn't working properly. We've been to many escape rooms that were great at other locations in Reno but this was just a waste of time and a joy-sucker especially since we spent good money trying to celebrate a friend's birthday only to be given a half sorry and being told that we *may* get 20% refunded once the boss got there. It was a busy Saturday so why aren't they there to begin with? Don't waste your time and money here. read more

Have you ever been locked in a room with a group of friends for an hour? Last Sunday was my first time at an Escape Room and it was so much fun! They have two locations in the Legends, we went to the one next to Forever 21. We were a group of six and we did the "Chain Reaction" room. It was one of the most fun group activities that I have done in a long time. So every room has a background story and you have a mission. Once you are in the room, you can ask for up to three clues to help you get out. I do not want to get into details because I do not want to spoil your experience. We barely escaped! We were down to 10 seconds! OMG!! It was such an exciting adventure that I cannot wait to go back! I was also surprised by the technology and creativity inside those rooms! WHAOOO!! The staff was friendly and professional. Shoutout to Michael for being so nice! He gave us the instructions and asked if we had questions. Then he heard we were celebrating a birthday and he gave a shirt to our birthday friend! read more

This rating is for the escape room at The Summit Reno next to the Century movie theatre. I was not impressed because the room looked worn and some of the challenges did not work. They need to do an overhaul of the electronics. They also had to come in and reset the computer during our session. read more

I won't get into all the details since I feel like it was a misunderstanding. Just make sure you read their cancellation policy and if they approve something different over the phone, get clarification first. I did not minus a star for the incident. We played the Mr 80s which was perfect for my husband's birthday. We grew up in the 80s so it was fun to hear songs, play games, and to go back in time :) The lady who explained everything in the beginning was quick but I think because we've played escape rooms before. We wish there were more rooms to enter while solving the game. You are just in one room the entire time. One lock we were having issues. We tried both ways but it was jammed. We wasted a bit of time thinking we didn't have the right combination. We ended up asking the lady, she came in to help since they always have issues with that lock. Maybe it's time for them to change that lock so they don't have further issues for the next players. We escaped the room with 17 mins left! We have no idea if we beat the high score because the lady basically just walked in and said "congratulations for escaping and thanks for playing. Have a goodnight. The exit is this way." Typically, escape rooms take pics of you with photo props. Not sure if this place is different but I did see in the lobby they had places to take pics and lockers where they must store the props. Employee never asked us if we wanted to take photos. I will still give them 4 stars since we had fun. We will be back to try the other rooms. read more

We have never done an escape room. We opted for the aquanauts room. The room looked neat but we really didn't know what we were doing. We mostly fumbled around solving puzzles out of order. Halfway through the host let us know we had missed out on the video at the beginning. That would have been really helpful to have found out much sooner! It was pretty much a disaster from start to finish. It wasn't an enjoyable experience. I would try another escape room but would never return to this location. Showed up early and signed our waivers for a 5:15 pm reservation and we started on time. The game we chose was Comic Shock, chosen specifically because we have young kids. Entering were 2 adults a 10 yr old and an 8 yr old. We listened to the opening story and all of a sudden there was an ear piercing scream and pounding on the walls from another game. This terrified the 8 year old and she was so shook up that mom and the 8 year old had to leave. Dad and the 10 year old boy finished the game but it wasn't fun after that scare. When asked about a refund for mom and the girl since they didn't get a chance to play we were told there are no refunds. So in short, if something happens that ruins the event and it's not your fault then they still want their money. Do not recommend for young kids, spend your $100+ across the way at the movie theater. PS. They don't have a bathroom. You need to use the restroom over in the movie theater. read more

Very bad room. The props and puzzles didn't work and we lost time doing them correctly because they were disfuncional. The worker didn't even know how to do the puzzles. There was a puzzle that couldn't be done and we had to lose more time in asking for help. So lame. Ruined my whole day. I just wanted to have a nice time with my grandma and this completely ruined our time together. Sooooo lame. Don't come here. Time and money better Spent elsewhere. It was also far too dark. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room we experienced was challenging enough to be interesting without being frustrating. We went for a corporate event which was great but the event was split between the two locations which made it a bit awkward and didnt fully allow us all to enjoy the experience as a single group. Did the sorcerer room with 3 adults and an 8 year old. This is definitely a room that a kid can help with a bit more. You get magic wands and you get to use them! I found it challenging enough without being too hard. I don't like it when they make them so hard there isn't a path and clues to follow that fit. Then you just get stuck and leave feeling unfulfilled or you have to ask for a tom of hints, which also Sucks. We got out of this one with 5 minutes to spare and with only a few clues (and they only confirmed what we were already thinking so that was cool). All in all this was the second room I did at this location, the first room Skull and Septet, was a bit mire difficult with some more time consuming puzzles. There was much less for a child to do and when the rooms like that having littles with you can slow you down and frustrate them, so nice to have one she can help on. Thanks! read more

First time doing an escape room. We did Tahoe '64. Thought it was a good price, $25 per player. Watched a quick video beforehand to get an idea what to look forward to so it wouldn't feel lkle a waste of money. You can find it on YouTube with the top 10 things to help get to the end. I THINK we did pretty good. Thought it was awesome cause they give you clues if you ask. We continued to try to do it on our own. I wish I had known there were two other parts to the room so we knew we didnt have much time...or even if there was a clock for time in the room to keep an eye. Not sure if it was the other players or the locks, but we wasted a lpt of time thinking the secret code was incorrect because it wouldn't open. They do show you what locks await. They inform you some of the things not to tear apart looking...but I wish they woukd have also told us not to take apart the lamp cause the lady yelled at us not to. Like you said only two items and the lamp wasn't one of them. I do wish they would go over the locks a little more like besides showing is to them maybe allowing is to see how to open them prior to going in so we know how they work. The main problem I had is we ran late because we aren't from the area and the girl didn't exactly describe where to go to find the room. Would be nice to see a map on where to go, even if we have to take a picture of it with our phones? Other than that, we had a good time. Also was nice to know we can pay for more time if we dont finish. Again, for people on a schedule it would have been nice to know ahead of time so we could have planned some time for just incase. read more

I gave it 1 star because I could of enjoyed this! (First time escape room) 4 very smart 65+ failed miserably at the Virginia Haunt at Legends and here is why, the presentation/instruction by the employee before entering was below poor. We were taken by complete surprise with the separation of our group of 4. Then we did not enter with the understanding that after split up we were to work together in separate room to reunite in the next room. We spent close to 30 minutes trying to gain understanding locked in a room. Here's the thing, I could go on and on with how poor instruction was for first timers/seniors. Retrain your staff!! Make darn sure we understand by having us echo. It was a super frustrating experience mixed with some anger. I was into the idea of it but quickly realized the employee explanation was on auto pilot and at the end very uninterested in any critique at all. She was pleasant and perhaps with some real customer service training might enjoy the job more. Glad I did not spend more than $125 for this. With the experience we all had, huge disappointment. read more

My group of friends has done every escape room in Reno that we can find (except one room). We have collectively decided that Key and Code is our favorite. it is a difficult choice because there are so many fantastic escape rooms. But Key and Code at the Legends Mall, specifically, has excellent high-quality rooms. They are thoughtfully designed with attention to detail and a lot of time spent cultivating an aesthetic. Furthermore, they often have entirely unique puzzles that fit within the aesthetic of the room. There are lots of great escape rooms and I don't mean to disparage them, but Key and Code at the Legends Mall is our favorite. At this time that I am writing this, there is not a yelp page for the Key and Code location at the Summit Mall. When there is, I am going to leave a different review and will update this one. The Summit location has been bewilderingly disappointing. Without getting into now, we have been so surprised at the significant decrease in quality in the puzzles and rooms at that location, that we are probably going to wait to do any more rooms there until we see some reviews and hopefully hear that the quality has increased. I'll leave it at that for now. Key and Code at the Legends Mall: Best in Reno. Key and Code at Summit: worst in Reno. Hope this is helpful and I will update later. read more

This company has the BEST escape rooms! Very fun, yet challenging puzzles. The Magician's Heist can be a competition, super fun with all ages of family...kids to grandparents. Golden Ticket is great for anyone who likes Willy Wonka. Lots of fun puzzles for younger players. The 2 couples that run Key and Code are LOVELY to work with. They are very accommodating and build their rooms themselves so they take a lot of pride in the puzzles. The game masters are very patient and give great clues when you call in for help. read more

I've been to two escape rooms at Key And Code and each experience has been wonderful! Their employees are kind and helpful. Their rooms are decorated quite well and the puzzles are challenging and creative. The one compliant I'd have if any was that some of their creatures like the dragon you're supposed to find in Merlin's escape room was less interactive than I first thought in design and function. All in all I would definitely recommend the place to anybody who loves puzzles, thrills, and immersing yourself into a story! read more

We did all 6 rooms here on 6/27 and had a great experience. We met/interacted with at least 6 employees between their two locations and they were all very helpful, professional and enthusiastic. As a team we have done 75+ escape rooms and have high expectations for immersive rooms and puzzle type. Key and Code had unique themes and fully immersive rooms. We love a good mix of old school combo locks and also "specialty" locks/puzzles that utilize the decor and theming, making the puzzle mechanisms unique to that room. Every single room at this business fit that description. I'm pretty sure every room we did had a puzzle system we had never seen before, which is impressive given the number we've done! If you like escape rooms like we do, we definitely recommend making a day of it and trying all the rooms, it's worth it! However our favorites Rooms were Mission Aquanaut and Virginia City Haunt! If they end up opening any new rooms we will return to try and conquer those! read more

We did Mr 80s with 4 adults and 3 children. We ran into some challenges with the size of the room(small) and the noise level. The TV plays continually and the instructions and clues are given through a baby monitor. The Tv was loud in comparison with the poor sound quality over the baby monitor and the other instructions given during the game. We had a difficult time understanding the clues. The staff was very nice and tried to be helpful. This room was surprisingly difficult and not a good room for kids as you need to have significant 80s knowledge. I think that there should be some kind of information as to age appropriateness and there should be a child price. read more

We did Tahoe 64' the staff was nice and informative about giving clues. We usually do a lot of escape rooms but the quality of the room is horrible You can also hear the rooms in your room. No time clock in the room a baby monitor speaking too you when asking for a clue witch you barely can even hear. The lighting in the room is dark you can barely see the map numbers and isn't the right size for women or shorter ppl. One of the clues didn't even match up so we didn't escape we also left with 4 mins left so I feel like we got robbed since we were at the end. As of yesterday, my group has participated in all 9 of key and codes' puzzle rooms, of which we escaped 7. But make no mistake, these rooms certainly arent easy, however, they aren't overly difficult either, solving each puzzle and entering each combination feels satisfying, although I'd say the "aquanaut" room could've been slightly more intuitive in a couple areas. The theming of each room is expertly done, whether it's grandpa's room, a lakeside cabin, a submarine, or an old saloon in the wild west, we were always able to easily immerse ourselves within the setting. However, with that said, we were all a bit underwhelmed by the second half of the "chain reaction" room, while the first half of it was great, the latter felt a bit bland theme wise, and was incredibly cluttered. The puzzles will often times match the theme of the room, which adds to the immersion factor and makes each room stand out from one another, the rooms are incredibly interactive, often times having several different types of puzzles which allows for different members of the group to shine. The employees here are super nice as well, every time we've come they've been very jovial, and whenever we got stuck and needed help, they never spoke down to us, and would typically give us a hint that didnt break our immersion, or outright tell us the solution. They give the place a really nice atmosphere. This is easily one of the best puzzle places in Reno, we came here every weekend for a month and a half straight (on some days wed do 2 rooms in a row) it became our weekly ritual, and it's honestly a bit sad that we can't come back any time soon. But we were given a set of t shirts upon participating in our final room, so we can cherish the memories. read more

Had a lot of fun with it! Was able to book an appointment the next day with lots of times available (Tahoe), and had a blast! My group struggled a bit with the puzzles and we were so thankful that our person gave us clues and helped us out. Alas, we did not succeed, but she was really nice as there wasn't a group coming in after us, so we were allowed to keep on working on the puzzles until we succeeded. For those of faint of heart, no fear as Tahoe wasn't scary. Plot wise it was great, as you learned more about the story with each puzzle you finished, and a great twist at the end. That twist was kinda scary, but nothing nightmare inducing. Since our group had a great time with it, we'll probably go back and try another puzzle! Goal is to finish it on time! My friends are braver and will probably do one of the scarier ones without me, lol. read more

We have been here several times and done Chain Reaction, Mission Aquanaut, Tahoe '64, Family secrets (which I don't think they have anymore) and Comic Shock. We have had overall positive experiences every time! The rooms are all very well themed and do a good job of getting you into the game. The puzzles are challenging but not impossible and do a good job of relating to the location/theme/time period of the room. The staff are always friendly and helpful and we haven't had any issues communicating with them while in a room. We did have one instance where an integral part of a room didn't work and that made it so we couldn't escape, I do wish we had been given a discount on our next visit for that one. I come to play and win, having the game malfunction and prevent that was extremely disappointing. We also had one instance where a lock was not reset in the room and it definitely made it a little too easy. All in all, we will happily return here and enjoy their rooms, I just saw they have a new room we will have to try out! read more

I've been to all 3 key and code locations and this final time we all went we decided to go to the new location in the parking lot of Costco. We have almost run of rooms to do so we decided why not try the new one. When we first walked in there was nobody in the front, it took a few minutes for anyone to show up. This review isn't because we did badly but because several times we asked for clues and NOTHING. No response, even after we pressed the button multiple times. This happened on several occasions, one time we waited over 5 minutes for a rude young man to come onto the speaker and pretty much yell at us because we were unable to hear him ( they little speaker was hidden behind something which made it nearly impossible to hear. It was evident who ever was working was busy doing who knows what because we decided to leave the game early and they didn't notice until we were almost out the door. Will be passing on this location in the future, I suppose it's to find a new escape room. read more
