We did Dr. Ensaine and the puzzle was definitely hard for our group but we are rookies at these, the location is great, right in the Legends shopping center. Its average priced so no complaints there. Shout out to our game master, Michael, he was super friendly and helpful. We asked for a ton of hints and we were probably annoying with that but not once did he break character and get snobby with us. Each time he gave us riddles to help us out, and the room itself had no malfunctions we just couldn't figure things out for the life of us haha. This location definitely gets the 5 stars because of the staff and customer service. They did awesome, they also seem to have a separate location on the opposite end of the shopping center that is made for larger groups (party size groups?) Try them out if you haven't, you will have a lot of fun and get some good brain exercise! read more

We did Mission Aquanaut and it was awesome! I also have do Magician heist and it was fun as well. I've been to every escape room place in Reno and key and code is definitely the best escape room place. But heads up I would recommend Mission Aquanaut more but I suggest having a small person or kid because there are tight spaces you need to get into in order to escape! Went with some friends and did the Virginia City room. The room itself was well decorated and they did a good job of creating an atmosphere for the experience, however there were several technical difficulties. One puzzle that drops down landed on one of our heads and gave him a headache for the rest of the night. Nice design but poor execution. read more

My husband and our enjoyed doing the Lake Tahoe room when visiting family. I really liked the different puzzles. I also really like that you are not booked with strangers. The only drawback was the ceilings were open, so we were about to hear others playing in the room next door at times. Looking forward to trying another room on our next trip up there! read more

Checked this place out with my wife and a few friends. We have been telling our friends about escape rooms as we did one in Las Vegas and became hooked ever since. We have done 7 total escape rooms now. First of all this place is really hard to find. We had to walk around the mall and found out that they are located on the back side near a secret entrance. The entrance is located next to a dumpster which smelled really bad. This was not a good first impression for my friends. We walked into the location and nobody greeted us for the first couple of minutes. Do they not have staff checking to see when people walk in? The waivers that they had us sign were a mess and all over the tables. You can tell this place has to be new as the other places we have been to just seem way more organized. The lobby was very spacious but not much to do. When the host came out to greet us she looked like she hated her job and was annoyed. We were told the storyline and it was confusing, boring and lacked enthusiasm. When we began the Dr. Ensaine room at first it seemed like a well decorated room however as time went on we starting realizing so much was wrong in the experience. The staff that were working forgot to erase the written clues that were from the previous group. They had some of the answers on it which made the experience easier and less fun. At one point in the room you have to crawl over and under an item which my friends hated as it was difficult for them to do. Definitely not handicap accessible as my friends are all capable of basic movements but this was a stretch. Don't believe many kids would be able to crawl over this so don't think its appropriate for younger ones. The batteries ran low on our walkie talkie which hindered the entire experience as well. A lot of the items in the room were extremely confusing and made no sense. What made this experience that much worse is that they forgot an important lock in the final stage of the room which caused us to get out super early and again made it not as fun. The lady that worked our group told us that there were numerous ways to solve the room. This cant be a true statement and irritated us all. Didnt even offer to give us our money back. Therefore we got out with 20 plus minutes left. The experience had a lot more locks versus actual technology like what we have seen in other experiences. Disorganized and not worth the money. Do not recommend this place to anyone and now now my friends are discouraged from coming to others with us =( read more

This escape room was amazing! Very magical, fun, interactive and engaging! Played several rooms and was given a great discount to play multiple escape rooms. Not only are the escape rooms awesome, but they have axe throwing as well!! Although axe throwing can be tough at first, it is very satisfying when you get it to stick. The owners are amazingly kind and fun, PLUS the staff is very helpful and hardworking. The owners have several locations for their locations and are very hardworking people. 10/10 would recommend to anybody I knew. The escape rooms and axe throwing are great activities for all kind of groups, big groups, small groups or even just an evening date for two. The first two times I came here, we had a great time and I thought to myself-this is the best puzzle room place in town! I did the chain reaction and the Tahoe room. The people who worked the rooms were enthusiastic and added to the suspense! The puzzles were challenging and very unpredictable! And there was a scare factor added to it too! So we were eager to bring more people and introduce this new business...However, today when we did Dr. Ensaine, the experience was hardly half as great as the first two times. The girls working it seemed unenthusiastic and didn't even tell us the entire story. And although we beat the record with 23 minutes remaining-all we got were stickers. I know another puzzle room place gives you a shirt. Point made-I think the experience also depends on the people working there. Another note-they are a bit pricier ($24/person) which may be because they do a pretty darn good job with their room decor but they do often send discount emails. read more

Stopped in last minute during spring break and the staff was able to accommodate myself and eleven-year-old grandson. They gave us some guidance and away we went. When we needed a clue, they were quick to answer our call. When our time ran out, since there was no reservations behind us, they even gave us beginners a little more time. Wow, this was my first time doing any kind of escape room. My friends and I have been wanting to try one so when the opportunity came for me to try this one I jumped on it. I was not sure what to expect so I was just a little nervous. First of all I was impressed on how helpful and friendly the owners and staff were at explaining the way it works to us. We chose the hardest room and unfortunately we did not figure out all our clues in time to escape but we did have a good time trying. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a little challenge and trying to figure out several different kind of clues. This place even has lockers with locks for you to lock up your purse or jackets so your not trying to carry that around with you. I wont say to much about the room so I don't give anything away for you. This is such a great way for a group of people to get out and work together and have fun. Different rooms will accommodate several group sizes so there is something for everyone from just a couple to around 9 in a room Have fun. read more

The first time we visited key and code, we did the Dr. Ensaine room. It was SOOO good! We loved it! Full of awesome puzzles and different challenges. That is a puzzle I definitely recommend. 5 star room for sure! However, we did the Virginia city haunt, and were EXTREMELY disappointed. 1 star for that room, zero if possible. We have done a lot of escape rooms (upwards of 20), and the room felt very far fetched. The room was just not very fluid and we just did not enjoy the puzzles or the room. We tried calling out for help, and no one answered to our calls. My husband had to leave the escape room with the emergency door release to ask for someone because we heard nothing back. We also solved a puzzle and nothing happened, but minutes later after trying different things, we asked for a clue and had to redo what we did the first time... just to have them unlock something. So that wasted a lot of time. Just felt like we were not being paid attention to and things just were too far fetched. The puzzles were sparse, and odd. Definitely had higher expectations and we were so disappointed with the room. We left feeling very disgruntled, and bummed. However, like I said Dr. Ensaine was SUCH a great room! I am happy we did that one first because we will most likely give them another chance, despite being so disappointed with the Virginia city haunt room. read more

When they came back the girl told her, "oops, I forgot to tell you I booked your appointment for a different location not here." On top of that she said she couldn't refund her because only the Manager could do it. It gets better! She said and the Manger won't because you didn't chancel within 24 hours! What?!?!?! We did the Navistar Galactica room. Even though we knew how to solve the first puzzle (The Navigator), it was impossible to solve as it required a huge amount of dexterity and would reset to the beginning if not done perfectly. Some other puzzles also required way too much time and patience to finish even though the solutions were obvious. The employees were not helpful when we asked for help. Extremely frustrating experience even for frequent escape room enthusiasts. This room needs some work. We don't recommend this one. read more

We LOVED our experience at Key and Code! The short version: This is a great escape place for newbies, regulars, and even experts. I definitely recommend it! The long version: Four of us made an appointment online through Key and Code's website for a Sunday afternoon. We booked the Tahoe '64 room, and let me tell you we were not disappointed! We showed up about 15 mins before our scheduled time, to complete waivers and get prepped. That was plenty of time, but honestly, I would've liked another 5 to 10 mins to hang out in the waiting area. There was air hockey, a photo booth, vending machines, samples locks to try, and puzzles to get your brain going. We met up with Max, who was the employee that led us through our room. He was extremely accommodating and enthusiastic about our storyline and room. The decor, clues, and puzzles in the room were outstanding! Max gave us impeccable clues that nudged us along in the right direction, but didn't blatantly give us the answer. He was extremely knowledgeable about the company and the rooms, and I can't wait to go back again! Thanks for the awesome experience Key and Code! read more

Our family booked the Dr. Ensaine room last week and had a blast!! There were 12 of us so we split into two groups of six in opposite rooms to compete against each other. The room was a little challenging to get started but there were a lot of fun twists and turns along the way. We've done other puzzle rooms in town but this one was great. The owners were very accommodating and made our experience fantastic. We will definitely visit the Key and Code again. read more

Best puzzle room!! I have been to some of the other ones around tow like Brainy Actz and escape rooms but there were always parts that are broken or don't work like they should. We have done dr. Ensaine and now Virginia City haunt. Key and code always has a good story line and fun ways to get to the next room. My family of 5 has escaped from all 8 puzzle rooms in Reno and one in Tahoe, so we were excited to see new local rooms open up. We started with "Family Secrets", and weren't disappointed. The room has a unique opening and just the right amount of puzzles. The staff was very friendly and eager to discuss what we thought of their room. We got stuck once, but our game master gave us a hint. We've learned to always ask for help if we get stuck to avoid frustration. Most places will give up to 3 hints and still count your time on their leaderboard. As an interesting option, they let you schedule in 15-minute increments which is perfect for this location. We will definitely be back to check out their other rooms! read more

Ok, so Yelp (Key and Code) didn't like my first review because there were some Covid issues mentioned. I will leave feedback then not on their policies but on the quality of their rooms and their staff. First, I have been going to Key and Code for a really long time. This past weekend, we went to their new location. They were totally unprepared and should not have opened. The audio was an issue and that was the very first thing we were told when we arrived. We were told to be prepared for them to not be able to hear our request for clues. HUH? That should have been our first clue. Our second clue should have been that they left the entire place to a 17 year old (I know this because she worked with my child at the waterpark). She was nice but the whole experience was so juvenile and the policies that she wanted us to follow were not practiced by the other employees after she left. Not a good experience. I would stick to the other escape rooms in Reno that are a lot less restrictive and that have more space in the rooms and not staff that are on a power trip. Just saying. read more

I've been to Key and Code on two separate occasions and both have been super enjoyable! The first was as a team building experience for work. Our team was split into two groups due to our size (14 people total). My group did the Tahoe '64 room and we found it to be challenging. The room had a good number of puzzles and there was a good variety to the puzzles. My group did not get out in time but because we were so close they let us keep going until we got out, about an extra 5 minutes or so. My second time was with just my husband and I, this is one of the only places that will allow you to do a room with only 2 people. We did Chain Reaction and we got out in time with about 6 minutes to spare. While we got out faster we still found it challenging and did need help from the workers quiet a few times. I highly recommend checking Key and Code out if you're interested in doing a puzzle room. read more

No way! Do not go here. We went to the new location at the Summit Mall and it was a disaster. When we first arrived, the girl told us," this is a new location and the audio is not working properly so here is a help button that you wear around your neck and press in case we do not respond to your request for clues." Say what? Well, inevitably the audio/sound was nearly nil and there were a lot of locks to open. Also, the room was very tight and hard to work in. I don't want to give away too much about the room (I won't tell you which room so I don't spoil it for others) so I will only tell you that it was too dark and WAY TOO HOT to work in. When we would ask for a clue, either we were not heard or we got no response, OR, we were in the 2nd room (it is obvious as soon as you walk in so no spoiler here) and the audio could only be heard in the room we were not in. I don't want to be mean but we are Escape Room junkies and have done every Key and Code room at least twice and every time our family and friends come in from out of town, we bring them there but this incompetence is unforgivable. There is so much more to the story but I will save Key and Code the embarrassment. read more

Our family has become hooked on escape rooms in the last year. We have visited every location that has opened in the Reno/Sparks area. I particularly appreciate the attention to aesthetic detail Key and Code invests in their rooms. Great production design. If you are from the area, the Tahoe themed room is particularly fun, while also offering some clever puzzles and devices I have not seen used elsewhere.
