Great location right on the marina, on the river. Plenty of outdoor seating with umbrellas. Started with the mussels appetizer. Broth was spicy but tasty. Mussels were cooked perfectly. We had a great dinner here. We sat on the deck next to the marina, watching the motorboats being washed and enjoying the view .of the Rt 1 bridge. Our server was great -- right on top of our order and helpful with the menu without being pushy. I had the Maine haddock, my wife had a fluke special, my daughter the fried Maine shrimp, and my son a steamed lobster. Haddock had a tasty wine sauce and was well complemented by the mushrooms, leeks, and tomatoes. The shrimp was excellent. The fluke seemed dry. The lobster was sweet, and the price was pretty good. Overall the prices for dinner were pretty good, but the drinks, appetizers, and desert made it add up. read more

One of the nicer restaurants in the town of Bath, conveniently across from the Hampton Inn if you are coming from out of town. When the weather is nice, they have a great view of the Kennebec River with tables and a bar outside. read more

Very nice experience. Food was decent, but best part was the lovely staff! The servers were so sweet to my less-than-perfect toddler. They made us feel extremely welcome, even if there were bits of food and a box of crayons throw on the floor. Thanks a million! Turned out to be very nice. Doesn't look like much from the street but was actually very good. Out on the terrace had great water view, good beer (Shipyard Summer) and an excellent Lob'stah roll & fries. After a cold day of beach combing in January, my partner and I had a wicked hankering for a good burger. Decided to take a chance on a new place and were very pleasantly surprised. At first I scoffed a little at the thought of $15 for a burger but it was more then worth it. Fries, slaw and a pickle came with them. Honestly, I would've paid more for this meal. My mom and I were just here. We were seated outside on the porch and chatted for a while while looking at the menu, about 10 minutes. We were both ready to order and started looking around, it was weird no one had said hi or brought us water yet...now 15 minutes since we sat down. We keep making eye contact with waiters trying to wave someone down but no use. I go to a waitress ringing up a bill and tell her (politely) we don't have a waiter and have been waiting a while. This Tavern had a beautiful view of the Kennebec River. There was indoor and outdoor seating. The Haddock Reuben was wonderful. My daughter had the roasted duck sandwich and thought it was exceptional. My husband liked his tavern poutine. The fish chowder and lobster stew was amazing. Huge chunks of fish and lobster. This is a slightly touristy feeling restaurant on the water. More about the setting than the food, which is pretty good but not great. I suggest sticking to the lower priced menu items and not challenging the kitchen too much. Sticking to the basics rewards here. They have a broad menu with good burgers etc for those who don't want seafood. read more

Ordered take out last night. I had lobster roll, fries and slaw. The slaw was tasteless with no zing. The fries were just ok. Prob would have been better if I had eaten them inside just when they came out. The lobster roll was a disgrace to Maine. The bread was way too big. Not much lobster meat and what was there was dry, chewy, mostly shredded and tasted very fishy/old. I wouldn't recommend at this point. read more

The absolute and only thing about our $117.00 spend for dinner for two this evening was our server, Elaine. She was great. The view was nice, but the noise level was uncomfortably loud. Our martinis were not good at all, mine tasted like a pre-made mix. The food was not good. Fried scallops were ok but skimpy. Sweet potato fries were limp and greasy, coleslaw was watery, wine- was that actually Carlo Rossi or something? Ruben sandwich unimpressive and for heavens sake who made those spongy onion rings? Only give this place 2 stars for the view. Unfortunately only place in town on the water. Service is terrible. Waited forever to be seated by the hostess who had to check with the servers before seating each group because they were "busy". It was not busy. There were at least 10 open tables outside and we were told they were too busy for us to have a table and offered us plastic Adirondack chairs in the corner. C'mon. Relaxing river-front ambiance, great food and drink, excellent wait staff! I had several dinners at Kennebec Tavern few years back when in town on business and this place left a very good impression. From a light afternoon of munching on lightly battered pickled chips with a drink dockside...or a quick lunch break....or a leisurely full course dinner of deliciously prepared fresh seafood, I had zero complaints. A friendly atmosphere with just the right touch of that Down East Maine casual classiness, not to mention delicious food and drink. So recently, when on a Rt. 1 coastal Maine weekend road trip with my hubs, I suggested make a short detour and have lunch. We made lunch selections from a list of unique menu items and specials along-side the standard pub fare favs. The Thai Seafood Stew was awesome as was the smoked creamy tomato soup and our sandwiches were yummy (he had turkey stack & she had smoked salmon). Lunch as a hit and a delightful restful mid-day break on our journey. Service was attentive and friendly, an all around pleasant experience. We go out of our way when adventuring Maine to stop by this unassuming river front restaurant again and again! read more

The restaurant is wheelchair accessible including the bathrooms. We asked for a table for two wheelchairs and two others it was not a problem. We would definitely go there again. Go elsewhere... Slow, slow, slow, did I mention how slow the service is? Our clam chowder was cold, when asked to reheat, it came back about 10 minutes later. Burger best described as a hockey puck, although, the hockey puck is a bit undeserving of that comparison. When asked to remake, it came back nearly raw, blood everywhere on the plate. When approached again, they finally took it off our bill. We had to request for all refills of water, tea, etc... It took three returns for them to prepare the bill properly. and... drum-roll please, the best thing about bad food and bad service is a BAD ATTITUDE to go along with it!! read more

I went in with my friend and we got two lobster rolls for 16 a piece. The lobster rolls were decent, nothing special. I believe that the lobster rolls are kinda overpriced and the service was pretty slow for me. Maybe it was just for me, but my friend and I waited for at least 20 minutes. The french fries were like every french fries and the cole slaw was pretty good too. Overall, the meal was appetizing for a pair of starving friends. read more

This was the first year we ever went out to eat on Thanksgiving. We choose this restaurant because it was close to where we wanted to hike after dinner. I called ahead, and confirmed that they were able to substitute a piece of fish for turkey, since I am a vegetarian. The standard turkey dinner was $19. The substitution they gave me was a piece of broiled halibut (without the crabmeat stuffing, which is a combo offered as a separate menu item). The fish was terrible. It had no flavor and the hollandaise sauce was tangy, rather than buttery or lemon flavored. My husband said the Turkey was okay. The squash was fine, but the potato tasted like it had an instant packet mixed in. Unable to enjoy my fish, I asked for a piece of pumpkin pie, which was offered with the turkey dinner. She said I couldn't have it because I had substituted fish (even though I had just replaced one protein for another, on the turkey dinner plate). I said I would pay for the pie, but the owner still refused. When the bill arrived, we found that they had charged us $8 for the fish substitution (which, again, was terrible), without having told us, in person, or on the phone, that there was a substitution charge. The overall experience was disappointing- both the food and the service/policies. We won't be going back. read more

The only thing that Kennebec Tavern has going for it is the view!! Have yourself a locale beer on tap and maybe an order of chicken wings while sitting out on the patio and then hit one of the other restaurants in town for a good meal. The food is basically awful and I don't usually complain about food anywhere?! The clam chowder was brought out lukewarm and turned to cement within a few minutes and there was hardly any clams in it. The fried calamari was brought out cold and had to be sent back. The bread on a Reuben was so over cooked or kept on the warming table so long our relative left half the bread on the plate because it was hard as a rock. The halibut burrito was dry and had no flavor. Meals there are real disappointments and the service is very spotty. Be prepared to pay a lot. We've owned our house in Bath for 25yrs and I always want to like this restaurant but it has to be the worst in town. read more

Service is always friendly and strong, the food is decent, and drinks are plentiful and delivered quickly. A friend and I walked in last night around 10:30p, aka closing time on a Sunday night in Maine, and the bartender graciously stayed open to grant us a couple of pints of Guinness. Very slow service!! Only one host inside. The outside patio should have its own hostess since there is an entrance to the patio from the patio. We ordered nachos $10, added guacamole$2,and chicken $6, total $18 and the portion that came out was ridiculous! It was on a small plate and barely any chicken. Never in my life time have I paid $18 for nachos so I was expecting a large portion. The nachos were average at best. Not worth the money!! Waitress never asked us how the food was either. Would not recommend this place based on other reviews and my experience!! read more

Our waitress, I believe her name was Katie was not very friendly and we did not feel welcomed.The food was alright, but too pricey for what we received. My lobster pasta was great, my wife's bowl of chowder was not edible we tried three spoons full and each one was gritty and full of sand. The table behind us had the same issue with clams or muscles not sure which. The restaurant was clean and the hostess was very friendly. The view of the river was great. The waitstaff was nice but slow when she did come around which was not very often and the place was not busy at all and had plenty of staff. The menu bragged about all the breads for sandwiches and burgers being made on site but my pasta came with none for the price some bread or a small salad would have been nice. read more
