Been here a couple times, a steak house you expect consistency and that's not what we got. This is an overall rating of 4/5 for our 4 trips here but first time I got pictures. Prime rib, they are very lucky I don't mind rare meat bc I ordered medium rare and this felt to me about as rare as a slow cooked prime rib gets. Still tasted good and the au jus is great. Bisque is good, just don't know why you can't upgrade your side salad or side soup for it when it's the same size. Don't mind paying extra but I don't need 4 starters with my meal. Parm filet, I could tell my wife was like damn I should have got a normal filet or ribeye. It was good but stick with the classics. It's a steakhouse, it's expensive, the atmosphere is very typical of a steakhouse, but go with a normal steak and you'll be pleased. Their deserts are 10/5, so good. read more

Exceptional food. Started with the stuffed mushroom app, crab was plentiful, cheese was delectable. Had the NY Strip w/ Kelsey's potatoes, perfectly cooked and potatoes were a nice blend of onion, green peppers and butter, very flavorful. Wife had the prime rib, perfectly cooked, creamy horseradish offered and aus jus which was a great compliment. Was recommended this place for dinner by my hotel manager. Was very busy, but I was seated right away in the bar at a high top. Waiter was very attentive and I ordered a wine, French onion soup, and a filet mignon medallions with a shrimp skewer. Everything came out quickly, but with plenty of time to enjoy it before the next dish arrived. The onion soup came with scissors to cut the cheese lol. I'm here to celebrate my birthday! I love this local family owned restaurant! I prefer family owned over chain restaurants any day! We were seated and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming! It's cold here today so everything is just cozy and warm. Melanie was our server. She is the epitome of service excellence. Her knowledge, demeanor, and professionalism was outstanding! She looks like Drew Barrymore's twin and seriously made our dining experience fantastic! I ordered the ribeye, medium well, with Kelsey butter (a phenomenal Irish garlic butter). The French Onion soup, salad and veggies were awesome. I topped it off with two glass of Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma wine. Yum!!!! For dessert, I had a slice of eggnog cheesecake to go. Our dinner was amazing last night! My filet was cooked to a perfect medium and melted in my mouth! I added blue cheese and it was chef's kiss! Service was slow but because it was the weekend it was understood. The server was not super attentive. Husband steak was supposed to be medium well but it was so overdone. Talked to a manager and she comped part of the meal, which was appreciated. My prime rib was NOT medium rare as I had ordered, quite the opposite. I went for the filet mignon and it did not disappoint. The meat was so tender I barely needed a knife. It had this buttery flavor and was topped with a little herb butter that melted right in. I liked that the portion size was filling but not overwhelming. The server gave great wine pairing advice and everything came out in good time. Highly don't recommend to anyone who has a shellfish allergy. I went here and then had an allergic reaction for 3 days straight.

My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the town where both of them went to college. I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we visited a lot of places and ate most meals out. Kelsey's Steak House was one of them. This was a pretty nice place. The dining rooms are large and roomy. We were seated at a table in a back room near the door to the outside dining area. Our server, Tyler, was very helpful and attentive. He had immediate answers to all of our menu questions. I ordered seafood bisque, sea bass with a crab topping, and a loaded baked potato. For dessert, I ordered the white chocolate covered white cake shaped like a cow. I don't remember what they called it. The seafood bisque was delicious. It had a lot of seafood chunks in it, although I couldn't tell you what they were. The flavor was rich with a hint of butter. The sea bass was a huge nicely cooked chunk. It was the biggest portion of sea bass I have ever been served. I liked the crab topping which was actually on the bottom. It had a strong crabby taste, but only small chunks of crab. The baked potato was my first loaded baked potato in a long while. I thought it was wonderful. The bacon on it was really smoky and piggy tasting. My wife had prime rib- the main reason for our coming to this venue. She really enjoyed it. Her soup choice was french onion, which she said was really good. It was served with little blue scissors to cut the cheese, which, of course, prompted me to say, "I guess we'll know who cuts the cheese!" The cake was amazing. I can't believe I didn't take a picture. It was shaped like a cow resting on its side. Mine was encased in a white chocolate shell. My wife's was in regular chocolate. Neither of us could eat the whole thing and ended up bringing a lot home. The white cake was so moist and delicious that the white shell was almost overkill. But, it didn't kill me, and I ate every bit. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. I don't remember any music. I was too busy watching the servers hustle and bustle around the place. I would definitely come back. The prices were on par with most San Antonio restaurants. There were some more expensive items on the menu, but I think you could get out of there for about $40 a person, if you went light on the cocktails (we didn't) and split a dessert. First time at Kelsey's Steakhouse and we are in love! Our server, Linda, was excellent and took care of us with great finesse. The food was outstanding! We started by sharing the Lobster Cargo. Think the buttery richness of escargot but substitute lobster for the meat. And then cover it with a layer of broiled Havarti cheese. It was outstanding! I had French onion soup, which was delicious and my husband had a salad with blue cheese dressing. Really nice! Our main dishes were the black and blue ribeye for him and filet mignon for her. The sirloin surprised me with how tender and juicy it was. I usually go for fattier cuts but this one was super flavorful on its own. Nice steak place! Very good steak and service. Our filets were cooked to perfection and saw the manager come by and ask if everything tasted ok. The house salad is pretty plain and I asked for cracked pepper and they didn't have any which I thought was odd. Wishing the ambiance was a bit nicer here but it's more casual dining. Very disappointed experience. Party of four with only one alcoholic drink was nearly $200. A local steakhouse in a former Shoneys/Dennys is overpriced. It had been several years since we were there. It will be never going back. Cuts of steak were grocery store grade. 3.5% surcharge for credit was an unexpected disappointment as well. Don't waste your money.
